Fun! I change mine once a month to correspond with the hair color Kim does each month.
Ironically, Kim's current pfp has all the colors of all the Houses he feels he belongs to.

Blue = Ravenclaw, books, studies, intelligence etc...
Green = Slytherin, his father, in the old days represented his pureblood heritage, smart/cunning etc...
White-Blond (hair) which could be passable as 'yellow' = Hufflepuff, his loyalty towards his family and 'friends'

The only thing that's missing would be Gryffindor, which would be red. Which would be his mother, and his adventurous spirit.

Yes, if you have the fake permission slip it opens up Hogsmeade and Room of Requirement.

As a first year that is correct. I think it only opens up during Y3 without the slip, right?
