I just have a personal vendetta against it

I think it's just that people compare it to the other HP books which is arguably much better (especially since Rowling decided that by Book 4 to incorporate some more mature themes and it stopped being a children's book at that point, making the later books better since Rowling dwells more into that gray area than the traditional good and evil). By itself, Book 2 is not a bad book.
