1. Please ensure your backstory meets 220 words.
2. As it is uncommon to pass away from flu, please specify a different reason.
3. Please ensure your stats add up to 35.
STATUS: Pending, Lesmana, 14 April
Reason for Pending:
  1. Magic can cure all mundane/Muggle illnesses. We need more explanation on why Arthur couldn't be saved by Tammy, a witch who specialised in potions for healing and remedies.
  2. The orphanage system doesn't exist in the UK. Even though the event didn't happen, we need the mention of it to be changed to adhere to the setting.
Once you make the changes, don't forget to edit the one in your encyclopedia page so the backstory here and there match.

History/Background Story:
Miss Jones' ancestors were part of the Peasant Arts Society in Haslemere, dating back to the 1890s, which was associated with the Arts and Crafts movement.

Its membership drew from all the local working class; Miss Jones’ family largely specialized in tapestries for the Sacred Twenty-Eight families as wizarding patrons. A few of these pureblood families decried Muggle industrialization and raised demand for artisan craftsmanship. Thus, some Sacred Twenty-Eight families sought out unique artisans whose stylized Gothic and Medieval art, incorporating nature motifs, proved attractive. During the Arts and Crafts movement, Miss Jones’ ancestors focused on utility and aesthetic appeal. Sometimes, though rarely, they created commissioned art murals for these families, incorporating Gothic-inspired elements.

Consequently, Rubie has a keen interest in the Art Nouveau movement that succeeded the Arts and Crafts movement. She even pays homage to her ancestors for their arts and crafts' services to the wider Wizarding community through her attire and accoutrements. And although she is hesitant to discuss it, her ancestors were complicit in spreading false pureblood supremacist beliefs and ideology. It is a notably sensitive topic for Rubie because of the recent historical developments in which pureblood-Muggleborn relations were marred, tenuous, and fraught with tensions.

Initially, Rubie attended the United Learning institution, where she received her primary education under a Christian ethos, as dictated by the Church of England. However, she is not an adherent of the Muggle religion. Nevertheless, the Global Citizen curriculum strengthened her skills in healthy lifestyle habits and critical thinking. Upon her acceptance letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, her parents disenrolled her from United Learning to pursue her magical education.

Rubie developed a fixation and a hobbyist interest in a set of activities, which emphasized her development and interest in learning. Rubie actively used the Haslemere Leisure Center for dance and fitness, and she eagerly watched Muggle cricket and football matches. However, she is not partial to the other offerings, such as rugby and hockey.

Although her parents are fans of the Quidditch team, Puddlemere United, she has been vaguely aware of the ins and outs of the wizarding team. But she has not actually witnessed a Quidditch match, professional or otherwise.

Her parents, Brooke and Jordan, strove to teach the importance of both sciences and arts. So, Rubie often visited Haslemere Hall for music, theatre, and cinema, while also studying the biological, geological, and anthropological specimens found in Haslemere Educational Museum. They guided her to develop an appreciation, for which she was initially resistant, wanting to participate in sports, mostly, and a comprehension of the local history.

A turning point for Rubie came from reading George Eliot’s novel Middlemarch, which she was expected to analyze in her primary school years for a public presentation.

She learned that the novelist lived in Shottermill during the summer of 1871, where the novel was largely written. Rubie began to question life in Haslemere and developed a yearning for something beyond the norms of her small hometown. However, she enjoyed a relatively secure, if not sheltered, life in her timbered, tile-hung house, in which her parents provided for her well, even though she fell ill quite a bit in her earlier childhood.

Rubie developed an overriding loyalty and passion for arts and sciences, which she strongly believes in their equal representation.

Especially, however, she understands that the Arts and Crafts movement was the ‘bread and butter’ of her family’s successes and their history, and that they continue to be involved in niche art circles within the wider Wizarding world of British society.

She adores Art Nouveau because it reminds her to appreciate fluidity and to step away from traditionalism whilst remaining functional; it has influenced her mindset significantly in how she perceives people, things, and objects: in her estimation, it is a perfect blend of the sciences and the arts.

First Instance of Magic:
Rubie experienced an accidental act of magic when she lost a very close friendship at around seven years old, during the summer of 2007. She ended up in a dispute with her friend, a longtime companion with whom she had been friends since they were introduced around their toddler years. Before their irrevocable fight, they had been considered inseparable.

It began when her friend, Darius, tried to convince her to join him in breaking into a neighbor's home down the block to steal from an elderly Squib woman who lived alone and was considered a recluse. Rubie refused, seeing it as improper and wrongful conduct, and, fearing the consequences, tried to convince her good friend, Darius, of the morality. However, it devolved and escalated quickly, and Darius ended up leaving her in the dirt to return home.

She returned home, dirty and despairing, to tell her parents about her lost friendship, but she couldn’t quite communicate verbally well with them. In their confusion and concern, her parents tried to console her and alleviate her sobbing, but nothing seemed to work. Finally, her father, almost giving up, handed her a favorite blue stuffed animal, a color she associated with sadness.

Without conscious thought or intention, the stuffed animal came to life before their eyes in a flash. As she clutched the stuffed toy to her chest, the ears of the elephant flapped, the nose twitched, and so forth. It was a clear instance of magic, and her parents, who were initially shocked, searching each other’s faces to check whether one of them was responsible, quickly realized that Rubie had shown magic.

On the other hand, Rubie was mollified and overjoyed that she discovered a new friend fast – or that her hopes for one transpired in this inexplicable act. She had forgotten even why she was so upset, even if the sting of her friendship lurked on her mind, because she could find respite and comfort in her favorite stuffed animal, which had been her steadfast companion throughout her most vulnerable moments without abandoning her once. She saw this as something of a miracle because she genuinely thought this magical act was a sign of life that proved her stuffed animal voluntarily stayed with her. And some small part of her, at the time, believed even that this was proof of a higher power, for which she had been taught in Muggle primary school years at United Learning.

After her parents sat her down and explained everything, however, Rubie was dispelled of this notion fast. And yet, she discovered an answer to her greater hope–that there was something beyond her small town, in which she could find belonging at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, soon, in the wider Wizarding world. And so, she held onto this hope until it was, indeed, confirmed that she was accepted to the institution at eleven years of age. In a way, this was more comforting to her, since there was definitive proof, according to her parents and later confirmed by outside sources, that she was a young witch.

Your character is wizardborn. Families fully immersed in the wizarding world would not send their children to a muggle school, be overly interested in a muggle religion, or go to the muggle community center. Please edit these references to better reflect a wizardborn upbringing, or you may change your blood status to half-blood or muggleborn if that better fits your character. Corvus, Daughter of an Irish woman and Italian man, used to live alone with her father in Ireland, where her father and mother already had a residence where they planned to live in the future. Due to the fact that her mother died giving birth to her, she lived alone with her father. Her father loved her very much, but he lost his job, due to the fact that the company where he used to work closed down due to financial issues, he saw gambling as the only resort to get money until he wouldn't find a job. So he went to Italy, with the three year old Corvus, where he already had connections to the Italian mafia, due to the fact that his friend was part of it, who suggested gambling to him. However he got addicted to gambling and lost everything. That's why he relied more and more on the mafia group his friend was part of for financial support, however as he couldn't repay his debts, he was betrayed by his friend and unalived in an alley in Italy, while little Corvus watching. Corvus was left orphanned. She was sent to England to foster care, due to the fact that she didn't have any relatives alive and because it would have been unsafe for her to stay in Italy, because of the mafia. The most suitable place for her to stay was in England. She was sent later to a boarding school in England at the age of five. In the boarding school, she didn't really make friends. Socialising was hard for her because she was seen as weird, she also got bullied. It was a traditional school with very strict teachers. Corvus often received punishments and detention, because Corvus often broke the rules by stealing snacks from the kitchen because she liked snacks or stealing from the office of the teachers, mostly books. Corvus used to be a quiet, aloof child and had a keen interest in physics, astronomy and astrophysics

First Instance of Magic:
The first instance of magic for Corvus was when she was 10 in the boarding school in England, she sneaked into the office of her physics teacher because he had physics books for the older kids. She had to be quick, because her teacher might come back at any moment and she had to be quiet, because her teacher was speaking to the history teacher in front of the office and everything what happened in the office could be heard from outside. She was a small child, and had to climb up the counter to reach the book, however as she reached for it, it started to fall down. She began to panic, but before the book could hit the ground, it started to levitate due to her magic. Corvus didn't have much time to wonder about it and quickly rushed out of the office with the book in her hand.
STATUS: Pending, Ruckus, April 16th
  • Why was Corvus not in danger herself in the alley?
  • Based on my research, if a child is orphaned in Italy, especially if they needed any sort of protection from the mafia and they had no relatives in UK, they would not be returned to the UK foster care system. They would most likely stay in Italy because their legal authorities are better prepared to deal with mafia issues. Please edit your backstory in such a way that Corvus will logically live in the UK for her first instance of magic.
  • Also if she does live in the foster care system, please describe the family she was placed with.
  • Prodigal Astronomy Learner is not a special race/talent. Since you're applying for that ability, you'd want to just put human.

Ivy Silverhelm was born in London on the evening of February 12, 2014. She is the first daughter of Theodore and Catharina Silverhelm. She grew up in a neighborhood where many other magical families lived. From a very young age, Ivy loved books more than any other hobby. She read many stories and factual books for many hours every day. Some of these books were written by her mother, who was a professional author.

Ivy also spent a lot of time with her grandfather. He worked as a magical researcher . Every time he visited Ivy’s home, he brought a large stack of books for her. Even though the books were long and difficult, Ivy finished reading all of them in just a few days. She kept her bedroom filled with these texts, learning about history and the natural world.

As she got older, Ivy became very curious about the outdoors. She was not content to stay inside the house all the time. She started exploring the area around her home with a small group of friends. They often walked into the thick forest located near their neighborhood. Sometimes, they stayed in the woods for a long time, and her parents could not find her. Ivy enjoyed looking at the plants and animals in the forest just as much as she enjoyed reading about them. Her childhood was defined by this balance between her quiet time spent studying and her active time spent exploring the trees.

First Instance of Magic:
Reducio
Ivy's first encounter with magic happened when she was barely three. Her mother was quite occupied with her younger brother and her father was away with work. She was trying to get a book from an upper bookshelf that was clearly out of reach. Clearly frustrated and on the verge of crying, she called for her mother. With no response, she bursts into tears. As she did, the toys around her hovered for a few moments in the air before plopping back down, which her mother witnessed.

Character Backstory:

Astrien Friedwald was born on the 24th of October, 2013, just outside Dublin, Ireland, into the Friedwald family, an old pure-blood line. They have long maintained a reputation for tradition, proper conduct, and their members maintain a strong standing both in the academic and social world. Although not a quite well known House, the Friedwald's are a very proud bunch, each family member always remembered for something, old log books and family line records kept like holy tomes to remember the greatness of their ancestors.

She is the sixth child and only daughter, with five older brothers. By the time Astrien was born, the household was already well-set in its routines, with her brothers at various stages of their education. They had limited direct involvement in her upbringing, largely due to age differences and their own obligations. As a result, much of the family’s attention was directed toward their ongoing achievements and futures - such as new family members joining, new job opportunities, graduations... None of which particularly included Astrien. Interaction between the siblings was infrequent and typically occurred during shared meals or formal family gatherings She could remember going to two of her brothers' graduations, and a couple of weddings when she was very young, but that was about it. Balls and other grand events usually didn't require her presence, mostly since she was too young to properly enjoy them, and some times she just didn't wish to attend them. Whenever she did go, however, she was always sat alone in some corner, walking around and observing the people and the paintings, doing nothing at all for hours on end.

Astrien was raised in the family’s ancestral home. The household followed a structured daily routine. From an early age, Astrien was educated by private tutors, receiving instruction in reading, writing, arithmetic, and history, as well as etiquette and proper social conduct - all befitting to her social standing, according to her parents. In addition to her formal education, Astrien was introduced to the Irish language, Gaelige, as part of her upbringing. While it was spoken with some frequency within the home, she developed a working understanding of it and can read and hold advanced conversations - better than her two eldest brothers, much to their irritation in the rare times they've interacted.

The Friedwald household did not keep pets, and Astrien did not have any personal animals growing up. Much of the domestic upkeep was handled by the family’s house-elf, who managed much of the cleaning, meals, and general household maintenance. Astrien took to having small conversations with the elf whenever they happened to be in the same room. He was a cranky one, old and loyal to her parents alone, but in the emptiness of the manor, he was a welcome presence.

Astrien’s first instance of accidental magic occurred at age seven during a family dinner. Following this, her magical ability was considered typical for a child of her background, and no additional formal magical training was undertaken prior to her Hogwarts acceptance. Astrien received her Hogwarts letter at age eleven and accepted her place without issue. She left for Hogwarts without much fanfare from the family, and was the first member of her immediate family to be sorted outside of Slytherin or Ravenclaw, much to her annoyance and her parent's typical 'that's lovely, dear, but I'm very busy'.

First Instance of Magic:
Reducio
She was seven, just shy of eight, in her family home, during a formal family dinner, with all her brothers and both her parents. Astrien had been seated at the far end of the table, where she couldn't be heard, where talking over her would be easier. Not that she didn't try to speak up, because she did, twice, but no one had really acknowledged it. Eventually, she just stopped trying, and resorted to just glaring at the dessert dish just out of reach. Maybe if she stared hard enough one of the servants would notice, or one of her brothers would see, or the of her parents would offer, or someone would something, for once. She remembered feeling oddly tight, like everything in her chest just had nowhere to go. It was this all too familiar oppressive feeling, something akin to anger and resentment and pure frustration, the kind that clawed up her throat. And then the plate moved, all at once snapping in her direction, lifting off the table and inch or so, knocking down her brothers glass in the way. No one had really said anything, really. Her mother just fixed up the mess with a quick spell, her father had shot her a small, almost impatient smile, one of her brothers made some kind of comment along the lines of 'huh, would you look at that.'. And that was that.

Character Backstory: At home, Izzy has very strict parents, who won’t let her participate in any extra activities. After Muggle school, she had to come straight home and do school work all afternoon. Her parents almost didn’t even agree to send Izzy to Hogwarts! They only agreed when Izzy agreed to a deal. The deal was that Izzy has to make at least 1 friend at Hogwarts before Christmas break. If she comes home, and she hasn’t made a friend yet, then she won’t be returning to Hogwarts ever again. Obviously, Izzy doesn’t want this. She wants Hogwarts to be a place where she can escape from her life in the Muggle world, and really be herself, without anyone weighing her down. At home, if her parents weren’t enough to deal with, she also has an older sister, Bridget. Bridget is 17, and the two things she loves are working out and annoying Izzy. Bridget is always taken care of by Izzy and Bridget’s parents. Their parents love and adore Bridget, getting her everything she wants, while all they want to do for Izzy is to make her life miserable. Izzy’s theory as to why Bridget and her parents hate Izzy is that they’re jealous that Izzy gets to go to Hogwarts. One day, Izzy confronted her parents and sister, and it turned out that she was exactly right! Bridget and their dad are both Muggles, so they didn’t have any chance of going to Hogwarts. Their mom, who is a witch, wanted to get accepted to Hogwarts the second she found out she was magical. She got there, but she barely lasted 10 minutes without getting expelled for using curses on her peers. She was forced to attend a different magical school, Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which happened to be rivals with Hogwarts. Their mom was forced to move to the USA to go to the school. The second she graduated, she moved back to Britain, since she felt Britain was her true home. Because of their mom’s whole horrible journey, their mom has always hated Hogwarts, so she doesn’t want Izzy to go there. One day, where, for some reason, their parents here especially angry at Izzy, they decided to finally give in to one of Bridget’s biggest requests: letting her be a strict workout teacher for Izzy. Bridget was the strictest teacher Izzy had ever had. She pushed Izzy past the limit, forcing her to do jumping jacks, squats, sit-ups, push-ups, leg lifts, runs, wall sits, and everything else Izzy had ever imagined. For Bridget, it was like winning her favorite game. For Izzy, it was like torture on top of torture topped with some more torture. More than anything, Izzy wanted to get away from her family and have a new, better life.

First Instance of Magic: Sometimes, her parents would let Izzy stay after school with her teacher, Ms. Pinky, to help her clean up the classroom. One of these days, 10 year old Izzy grabbed an eraser to clean the blackboard in the classroom. The second the eraser touched the blackboard, all of the writing erased instantly. Izzy was so startled, so she didn’t tell Ms. Pinky. Instead, she went home, and told her mom all about what happened. Her mom told her that Izzy was a witch! It turned out that her Izzy’s mom was also a witch, but her dad was a Muggle!

Reason for Pending:
  1. Is Bridget a Muggle or a Witch? Please state it in the backstory.
  2. Why do the parents not want Izzy to go to Hogwarts? Every magical child must be educated to control their magic in a magical school (Hogwarts, in this case). Besides, Izzy's mother is a witch, so logically, she should understand that education in a magical school is important for her children. Please explain the reason behind their resistance to letting Izzy go to Hogwarts.
  3. Right now, the parents and Bridget come across as just a cruel family. Why do the parents favour Bridget more? Why do they (including the parents) want to make Izzy's life miserable? If this was just Izzy's thought, please state it. If not, it might help to explain their reasoning.
Once you’ve made these edits, please make sure to update the backstory on the encyclopedia page as well, so it matches the updated version in this registration.

- Please precise why her mother was expelled from Hogwarts. Additionally, which 'school rival of Hogwarts' are you speaking of? If it's in another country, we would need mentions of her mother moving there, and re-moving to England upon Izzy's birth.

On the outside, she lived a perfect life but her home lacked many things, but the thing that her home lacked the most was warmth and silence. She lived with her parents, George and Lily Smith, Josephine being their only child she grew up in a wealthy family with a lot of status and power. from a very early age Josephine grew up around gifts and expectations, her father wanted Josephine to be smart and to be better than everyone so he hired the best tutors and staff to push her deeper into her studies. So naturally whenever they had any type of family event, it was awkward and sad, Though there were sometimes where they got along, and we’re happy until they argued, Yelled at each other and then push each other away. Her parents both Slytherins expected her to be just like them of following into their footsteps of being a slytherin she did have many traits of being a Slytherin, including being ambitious cunning, and a strong desire to succeed. She cared about making her mother and father, proud, but even the strongest have a weak spot. She wished to have a normal life without pressure filled with love and support, no matter what But even though she was raised and forced to be perfect she still had some freedom where she’d sneak out run, wild and be at peace where her parents couldn’t get to her, and in that same ways, she felt out of place like she never really belonged.

Josephine’s first encounter with magic happened when she was eight years old, during dinner, she was arguing with her father again. Her father wanted her to study more, practice more, to be more perfect. As her father was yelling at her to be perfect its like the world went silent her ears muffling her fathers yelling, She had bottled up her emotions so much that after so long she just snapped. They had argued many times before aggressive, loud, but never did she, or her father lay hands on each other, but this time she yelled really loud and suddenly a powerful force just shot out of her forcing her father and everything surrounding them to fly across the room. Plates and vases shattered across the floor. In that moment, she felt relief and sadness, but her father wasn’t angry anymore. He was thrilled that she had finally showed signs of her magic completely forgetting the argument they had before. To her that memory haunts her, it was never something she ever wanted to celebrate or talk about again.

It was December 4, 2014. Tonight was the full moon, and Mom was leaving to transform into a werewolf. Mom had been a werewolf since she was twelve. One full moon night, she went out, but unfortunately, she was bitten by a werewolf. At first, her werewolf condition bothered her, like it did me and everyone else, I think, but now she had gotten used to it. Before leaving, Mom put me to bed, but she forgot her aconite potion on the edge of her bedside table because I was sleeping in my parents' room. After kissing me goodnight, she told me, with tears in her eyes, that she was very sad to have to leave me, and that she was truly sorry for being a werewolf. She went out and headed to the old house where she usually transformed. The moon was rising around 11 p.m. today, and at 10:56 p.m., my door opened a crack and Mom came into my room and went to her bedside table to get me the little bottle, but she hadn't even reached it when the moon appeared, high in the sky and perfectly round, no clouds obscuring its beautiful light. I was lying in my parents' room, and with their shutters open, the magnificent moonlight streamed in, illuminating the room and my little body wrapped in a blanket, and from what I've been told, I was fast asleep. Despite my very young age, I still remember the excruciating scream of pain my mother let out. I started yelling and crying with fear. My father rushed into the bedroom, where he was watching TV in the living room next door, a saucepan in his hand, and, to his utter astonishment, stopped dead in his tracks on the threshold. A fully grown werewolf was standing there, and my arm was caught in its ferocious jaws. Despite the imminent danger, my father lunged at the beast and smashed its jaws with the saucepan. It let out a howl and fled, smashing through the window of Mom and Dad's room. While we could still see the werewolf running away, Dad rushed to me, scooped me up in his arms, locked the bedroom door, and rushed me to the bathroom. He opened a cupboard hidden under towels and took out two jars containing different substances. One contained dittany, the other silver powder.
He applied the two ingredients to the bite, which was bleeding profusely. My older brothers and sisters rushed over and helped Dad as best they could. Dad applied the two ingredients, and as if by magic, the bite closed, preventing me from bleeding to death. At each of our births, Mom explained to Dad and the children that if an accident happened and she bit us, they should apply these two ingredients to the bite to close it and avoid certain death. After treating me, Dad rocked me all night to soothe my sobs. I finally fell asleep in the arms of my older brothers and sisters, who were themselves asleep on the sofa. Early the next morning, Mom came home with tears in her eyes, blood everywhere, and a broken jaw. Dad explained the situation to Mom, but she already knew all about it, and although Dad had taken great care of me, she preferred to go to the wizards' hospital to be sure. Once she arrived there, she was treated, and the doctors took charge of me. There, the doctors said I was no longer in mortal danger and that Dad had reacted very well, but that from now on, with each full moon, I would transform. They kept me for two days, and Mom too.
Mom always felt guilty about that accident that night, but not me; I fully embrace my werewolf nature, and anyway, I already scared everyone, so werewolf or not, I still inspired fear and contempt in them. I've been a werewolf almost since birth. But even though it's always been this way, I still suffer terribly with every full moon, and it's not uncommon for me to wake up in the middle of the night plagued by nightmares in which people try to kill me; most of the time, it's the pain or the fear that pulls me from sleep. I still bear all the scars from my full moons, including several on my face. At Muggle school, it wasn't difficult to hide my condition; no one spoke to me, and my scars became a subject of ridicule, so when my Hogwarts letter arrived, I was relieved, and so was Mom. Perhaps I wouldn't have to hide anymore.
History
Hello, my name is Tenebra Lowfa, I am 11 years old. I was born on November 23, 2013. I am English and half-breed, but also a werewolf.

I am reserved and withdrawn, but kind and helpful once you get to know me well and I trust you. I lack confidence, but I make sure not to let anyone take advantage of me. I like reading, writing, the night, the stars, the moon, my family, music – I play the piano, rain, and wind – I love being by the fire with a book when there's a storm outside. I live
in the Cotswolds, far from the village. Around the house, there is a forest and an old house, in which my mother, who is a werewolf, transforms with me every full moon.
I went to a Muggle school until I received my Hogwarts letter. I didn't have any friends, and leaving all those people didn't bother me at all, especially if it meant continuing my studies in a castle and learning magic.
When I was little, around six or seven years old, I tried horseback riding. I enjoyed it a bit, but the people I rode with didn't really like me; apparently, I scared them. Which is true.
I started playing the piano at five, and I play it very well. That's why, at nine, I entered a music competition. I played the piano and sang, and I won first prize! I was so proud of myself!
Many people say I look like my mother, and it's true, both physically and in character!

first insistence that magic
I performed my first act of magic when I was five. My mother was making a potion for an animal, and I wanted to try stirring it too, but she wouldn't let me. I started screaming, stamping my feet, and crying when I managed to smash all the vials in my mother's kitchen.

Emil is the youngest of three siblings in the loud, disruptive, and still loving Scovich family. Two parents who worked in the Ministry, a oldest brother who was a Quidditch professional, a sharp sister that was on her own track to being a historian or archivist...and humble, happy little Emil. The Scovich line is mostly a wizarding line, though there are just a few Muggles too many in the family history for people to consider them ‘pure blood’ — a sentiment that the family has always been perfectly fine with.

Emil’s childhood was filled with seeking out quiet nooks and crannies in the family home to read, play with puzzles and riddles, and experiment on whatever had their fancy at the moment. However, as they got older, their experiments became...well, certainly not dangerous! Not at all! So what if they were armed with their mother's old Beater bat and laying in wait outside an old toy chest in the attic for a Boggart to show up? They needed to test their 'resilience to mundane blunt force trauma.' After all, Emil needed to know these things to protect themself without magic as an underage child! And what if they truly were experimenting with some of the kitchen spices and Potions ingredients from their father's pantry (a series of experiments that their siblings woefully misunderstood as 'trying to make magic pepper spray')? And if some of their siblings old textbooks mysteriously wound up in Emil's room way before they were prepared or ready to truly do anything described in them...well, who could be upset with them reading ahead? To Emil, information and knowledge were means to an end - solutions to carry in a back pocket for whatever puzzle or riddle the world threw their own way or their family's.

First Instance of Magic
Reducio
Emil’s first instance of magic was on the roof of their family’s house in Galway at the age of eight. While getting frustrated with a particularly stubborn puzzle, they let their frustrations out by kicking the house’s chimney — and accidentally turning the entire upper quarter of it into a neon pink array of flowering blossoms.
Their parents were both amused and yet still playfully ribbing Emil about the incident to this current day. It even led to their mother’s affectionnate nickname for them: ‘Cherry Blossom.’

The autumn season that year had been unforgiving; the freezing temperatures of the upcoming winter were setting in at an uncontrollable rate, followed quickly by an eerie fog that heavily clouded the town of Tewkesbury, England. However, after a month of lingering fog, the sun finally pierced through just as Josephine and Sylvester Aelina’s hours-long wait reached its end. Corrine Faye Aelina, their little daughter, had come to the world with tranquility and silence, not even fussing as she’s pried from her mother to be checked on by the medical staff.

The months following her birth were quiet for the family, though not without its subtle tension. Seeing as Sylvester had to provide for them all, he focused his attention on work; the law firm he was under demanded many hours at a work desk, leaving Josephine in charge of taking care of little Corrine with the aid of his parents.

Considering Corrine had been a quiet baby, much of the work primarily consisted of feeding and keeping her asleep, but nonetheless, Josephine could feel herself breaking the more months she spent cooped up in their home. There was a rising tension gathering underneath her skin, almost like a string reaching its limit. Every minute she’s awake, the compulsive need to return to a routine she knew amplified. She felt she needed to return to where she belonged—a place constantly humming with the sound of medical equipment, and where the sound of rushing footsteps and the wheeling of rolling gurneys were the norm. So much of her life had been spent there as a doctor, and now, being away from that world made her feel confined and trapped.

After only three months, Josephine broke, voluntarily choosing not to use the rest of her maternity leave. Returning to work helped her regain a sense of normalcy that she hadn’t felt since before her pregnancy, and she relished in it. However, this also caused tension in her relationship with Sylvester, who had felt that at least one of them should be home to care for their daughter. Many arguments and disagreements came between the couple, leaving Corrine in the care of Genevieve and Aldwyn Aelina, Sylvester’s parents.

By the sixth month, Corrine rarely saw her parents in the same room. Between cases and paper work, Sylvester had visited as often as he could, even braving through the deeply-rooted exhaustion within his bones caused by work and by the widening rift between him and his wife. On the other hand, Josephine visited at a consistently less rate, as she had moved out of the house. The two no longer talked, their pride preventing them from admitting either of their faults.

Babbling, crawling, her first few steps and even her first word, all of it had been buried in the emotional ordeal. By the time the couple were officially divorced, Corrine was nine months old, who was now permanently in her father’s care.

The months that followed were solemn. With now one less person to provide for him and his family, Sylvester was forced to choose a hectic schedule that barely spared any chance to spend with his darling daughter. Although ashamed, the man did the best he could, opting to earn as much as he could so that he could give Corrine a life with no financial burdens.

At two years old, Corrine had all she could ever need in life. Aside from the bare necessities, she had been given practically anything everything a kid could ever want in their younger years: more toys than she could ever play with at once, and even her personal library for when she got older, courtesy of her father’s support.

Turning four-years-old marked a new beginning for Corrine, as her father had hired a tutor for her homeschooling. Quietly, the girl quickly grasped most of the basics taught to children at her age, as well as a newfound interest in books regarding animals, as well as music. Realizing this, Sylvester happily paid for beginner music lessons, in hopes that his daughter would forgive him for the time he’s spent away. Corrine, on the other hand, had long gotten used to her father’s rare presence, having been told time and time again by her beloved grandparents that, although he’s almost always away, he still loved her dearly.

At this point, she no longer remembered her mother’s face, only hearing bits and pieces about the woman from her grandparents. Though he’d never spoken about her directly, Corrine was quick to notice the way her father’s face would sour and shift at any mention of her mother.

Eventually, her grandmother would recommend that it’s best she go on to attend pre-preparatory school on the day she turned five years old, and her father was quick to agree. However, Corrine only spent approximately six months there before departing. Her reasoning confused Sylvester greatly; she had said, “Father, the people there don’t seem to find me very likable.”

It concerned him, but the girl would refuse to explain, and he was forced to let it go. When Corrine left her pre-prep, she continued her studies at home through the aid of various tutors.

Six years marked the start of something strange around the house. Odd things began happening around the house. Corrine thought that, perhaps, she was simply going crazy, though it didn’t quite make sense. She never knew six-year-olds like herself could go crazy. Upon expressing her concern to her father, Sylvester had chuckled and reassured his daughter that those were likely odd coincidents or even part of her imagination.

And yet, despite his explanation, the oddities continued. There was one particular instance she remembers quite avidly. She had been heading to her personal library with her favorite cup of orange juice, having been freed from her classes of the day. A new set of books had come in from a local bookstore. She was just mere meters away from her desk when her food had gotten caught on a nasty, uneven floorboard, causing her to be launched forward.

It all felt like it was going in slow-mo; she could only watch as her glass escaped her hold, the juice beginning to flow through the air and approaching her books. The girl braced herself for an epic disaster of ruining brand new books that even she herself hasn’t been able to read.

But it never came. She couldn’t believe her eyes; the juice that she had brought floated in mid-air alongside the very obviously unbroken glass. Even stranger, she watched with wide eyes as the juice floated back into its container. It’s the strangest thing she’d ever seen, and it was wonderful! It was like in the fairytales she’s read. However, there’s no plausible explanation; perhaps it had been a trick of the eye. Even as she slowly picked up the cup and placed it on her table, it felt utterly surreal.

The following years passed in a similar manner. Weird things, small as they were, continued to happen left and right. Nobody kept track but Corrine herself, of course, considering that nobody else had paid very much attention. And yet, the weirdest thing she’s experienced happened at the age of eleven, when a mysterious a mysterious man dressed in a cloak came to their home, wanting to speak to her and her family. He had been a representative of. . a place called Hogwarts, and he had come to tell her that she was a witch.

First Instance of Magic:
At the age of seven years old, Corrine had plenty of books in her personal library, each of which she treasures dearly. She spends a good amount of time keeping them neat and orderly, taking pride in this act.

One time, she was bringing a cup of her juice into the room as to begin reading but had unfortunately tripped. Distraught by the thought of dirtying one of her favorite books, her magic unconsciously spiked. Before she could even react, the juice that had spilled out floated mid-air for a moment before casually returning to the cup, with no further sign of it ever spilling in the first place.

Having no awareness of magic at the time, she had chalked it up to luck (and possibly hallucination). It's only three years later at the age of eleven when she finally figures out that this was likely an instance of magic.
