Gabby is... kinda like me when I was her age - ie just a normal, bubbly 12-year-old prone to existential crises XD
@Lucia Fox ok, basically it's set in revolutionary France, there's this prison convict just let out of prison after serving 19 years for stealing bread to feed his starving family
He breaks his parole which means this policeman is after his blood
He steals some silver from this old bishop and when he realises the bishop forgives him he turns his life around and uses the silver to do good, he becomes a mayor and the owner of this factory
Meanwhile one of the girls at this factory has a child who lives with some people who abuse her. She gets kicked out of the factory and when the prison convict finds out he vows to look after the child kind of like a recompense
Then he rescues the child but at a similar point in the plot the policeman finds out who he is, so they have to escape together to a different part of France
Fast forward a few years, the French revolution is in full swing and the child (now 19-ish) falls in love with this French revolutionary called Marius
There is also a girl called Eponine who loves the French revolutionary, but he doesn't love her back. There's a big fight on the barricades and the policeman turns up as a spy - the convict recognises him but spares his life, which leads the policeman to commit suicide because he doesn't know what to believe any more
Meanwhile all the revolutionaries die on the barricade (including Eponine who disguised herself as a boy and fought to get Marius' approval) except Marius, who gets saved by the convict
Marius mourns all his dead friends then marries Cosette, the girl
The prison convict dies and the ghost of Cosette's mother comes and says his sins have been forgiven
That's basically it
