Zach successfully passed his first year at Hogwarts quite well. At least he managed to survive despite experiencing some difficulties because there was so much he had to learn. He also still had to adjust to the wizarding world because life in the non-magic world was different from life in the wizarding world. With a sigh of relief, he went home during the summer holidays after Summer Camp. He was very happy because he finally could spend more time with Yarnitia, his mother, and his three younger siblings. Zach told his mother about some of the things he experienced at Hogwarts. Yarnitia tried to understand him despite being limited by her Muggle logic, but she still tried.

In the midst of their conversation, Yarnitia also talked about their family life at home and news about some animals that became her patients. She also mentioned that the church they usually attend has a spiritual camping program for teenagers aged twelve to eighteen. Yarnitia suggested that Zach join the program, but she did not force him because as a mother, she understands Zach's difficulty in participating in such activities. Zach thought about it for a while until he finally agreed to join the program. Yarnitia smiled as she saw Zach make that decision. She then contacted the contact person to register Zach for the spiritual development program.

Not long after, Zach joined the spiritual maturity program and was taken to a camping area where many children his age were also participating. Children from other churches also joined the program, and they engaged in various activities such as studying the Bible, praying, and playing. The program had a rule of not turning on the lights during bedtime to help the children quickly fall asleep and recharge their energy. However, Zach felt uncomfortable sleeping with strangers in a new place, which was similar to his experience during his first few days at Hogwarts that lasted for several weeks. As a result, he kept his eyes open for a few hours and heard various sounds such as the soft snoring of other children, the sounds of nocturnal animals, and the wind moving the lake water. He continued to experience this for two weeks.

One thing Zach realized after experiencing it for over a week was that he could see something faintly in the darkness. He could see the ceiling in the midst of the dark night, as well as the sleeping positions of the other children and the position of the blankets covering them. He even tried to walk slowly in the dark without making any noise. So, during the last few days of the program, if Zach couldn't sleep, he would sometimes sneak around the room until he felt tired and sleepy enough to sleep. After returning home from the program, Zach also tried it at home. When night came, he turned off the lights in his room and tried to walk. He could even walk around the house in the dark without hitting anything. Zach thought that this ability was very random, but it would definitely be useful someday.

Live’s parents, Iris and Thomas Powell, ran into each other at Hogwarts while skipping class. Thomas was making an effort to hide, but Iris was sauntering around without care. Her snake smelled a fellow delinquent and lead her to Thomas’s closet. Iris and her snake’s parseltongue, and the conversation in English between Iris and Thomas that followed, alerted a prefect to their location, and both were given detention. They bonded over shining trophies and complaining about the school and became close friends.

Thomas’s disinterest towards learning made him an outsider among his Ravenclaw peers. He told Iris he wanted to join a commune made up of outcasts after graduation. Iris wasn’t sure if she wanted to follow him until her parselmouth identity was revealed and she became an outcast as well. Iris began bullying another parselmouth, Cathal Day, during her second year at Hogwarts by giving her snake messages to say to him, but she wasn’t caught until four years later, after Cathal made a friend and showed the friend Iris instructing her snake. Iris was understandably ostracized because she was using her ability to torment someone else, but she wrote to her parents that she was being ostracized solely because people found out she was a parselmouth, which further cemented her parents’ views. While Iris’s actions were well-known within their circles and many people tried to help Cathal, Cathal and his friend remained outcasts and ended up joining the same commune as Iris and Thomas.

Neither of Live’s parents wanted children, but Iris’s parents desperately wanted more parselmouths in the world. They argued that if parselmouths kept on refusing to reproduce, the world would be even more overrun with normal people than it already is, and it is their responsibility to lessen the prejudice parselmouths experience by creating more parselmouths. They were able to convince Iris and Thomas using their wealth, which was instrumental in purchasing land and supplies for the commune. Live was named by her grandparents and uses her grandfather’s last name. At her grandparents’ request, a plaque with Live’s name on it was built and serves as a bench along a path to the square.

Live's parents were relieved to learn that she inherited the ability because she was able to converse with Iris's snake, but they did not tell her about her heritage. Her parents’ initial motivation for keeping it a secret was that they wanted to hide the extent of their grandparents’ involvement and just be regular, loving parents to their child. When Live was two, a schism occurred because a portion of the commune members, lead by Cathal, wanted the commune to have a purpose beyond being a place for people to do nothing all day. Cathal bribed Iris and Thomas, the most charismatic couple in the commune, into being the figureheads of the art therapy faction, and although they faked it at first for the position, they fell in love with the art of writing prose. Live didn’t cross their minds much after that.

As parselmouths were a significant minority in the commune, Live thought they were commonplace, and it was not until Iris brought up her version of how she became an outcast, and Live questioned how she was able to do it for five years without anyone else understanding the snake, that Live learned it was a rare ability. Only the people in the commune were aware of her ability because she rarely left the place and was carefully supervised and painfully shy outside the commune.

Please explain more about why Live knows she is a parselmouth. Does she understand the snake speaking? Her mother speaking in parselmouth? The family would not know for sure that she is a parselmouth because it is a rare talent, even with her mother and extended maternal family having the talent.

Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for: Comprehend languages (Mermish)

Character Fit:
Reducio

Aida spent countless hours by the edge of the Great Lake, observing the wildlife during daily studies of magizoology. It was only a matter of time until Aida became too curious about the depths of the lake to resist investigating there, too. Wading into the brackish water and submerging completely while looking around, Aida could hear a strange voice-like harmony. With time, the white wix’s fascination only grew, and with time the phonemes of mermish began to sink into Aida’s brain from afar. However, swimming along the perimeter of the Great Lake was not typical student behavior, as it was quite dangerous. Still, Aida didn’t care because it seemed that the underwater voices were calling to the depths of their heart. One day, when Aida sank into the dark waters once more they felt a tugging in their hair and was surprised to meet one of the merfolk that lived in the lake. A tall, beautiful merwoman appeared with long billows of hair tangled with benthic plants and the occasional pleat of colorful shore sedges.

With assistance from the bubblehead charm, Aida began to attempt communicating, first with gestures, and then by trying to mimic the sounds the merwoman was making when apparently describing her name. Spellbound by the mystique of the mermaid, Aida came every day to the lake to practice learning how to communicate with her, met equally with curiosity and concern from the mermaid. With time, Aida’s vocabulary increased to the point that they were able to talk about fish, the giant squid, and basics about other animals in the area. Captivated, Aida began obsessing over the mermaid, her beauty, and what it would be like to live every day as a non-human beneath the surface. Of course, for a student with human responsibilities forever requiring Aida to come back to the confines of the castle, considerable heartache came to accompany the white wix whenever they had to sit through yet another potions lecture. All the claustrophobe wanted anymore was to be outside and learning whatever fragments they could glean from the wisdom of non-humans inhabiting the area’s wildlands, and at last one of them seemed interested in talking with the wix. If only they could swim forever, thought Aida, they might be able to escape the expectations imposed by human society. Perhaps they could even be friends. With the thousand small dramas taking place in the lives of animals and magical creatures outside the classroom, Aida cared less and less for the minutiae of human students’ teenage lives. Out there, in the depths, a greater connection could be made for understanding the problems experienced by the non-humans of the world. The day Aida’s linguistic ability got to the point of being able to ask for permission to fish in the lake, they knew they were on the best possible life path. The basic need to acquire food to live gave Aida and the mermaid common ground, and eventually the Ravenclaw earned enough mutual trust to be introduced to others in the merfolk colony. Learning mermish would prove a major step in Aida’s advancement in the pursuit of their future in magizoology, and with it, a thousand new stories were born into the white wix’s life.

Donald spent the last year feeling entirely behind in his studies due to being held back by his parents. Much to his own annoyance, he was now a couple of years older than many other students of his same schooling year. During that first year as a Hogwarts student, before he got pulled away, he had shown great promise as a transfiguration student and had been considered a prodigal student in it even. Being ripped away fueled a drive in Donald that when he returned, he became obsessed with perfection and getting the best spells cast. It might not be possible to catch up in years, but he could be impressive as he went. The next evolution of this mindset is to make the spells even more powerful.

This fits Donald because he has a desire to show he is good at magic, and can go big. His muggle born roots often make him feel like he is lesser than those with long histories of magic. The hard work he puts into casting bigger, more perfect spells is a perfect example of why this fits him. This is combined with the fact he is older than other students, and therefore has a bit more bodily development. This helps him, at least in his mind, go bigger compared to his peers. When he takes the time to cast a spell perfectly, he can also put even more effort in to make it go big. Though it might take away from his low tier perfectionist personality, he can't help but give it that extra push to encompass a larger area.

During his second year, Donald experimented with the dueling club. A lot of back and forth showed him that to make a name in the school, you needed to play a sport. Duelling, Quidditch, Broom racing. Those seemed to be the big name sports. Broom racing seemed like a pureblood sport, or at least not for Donald yet. He'd never really used a broom much at all or seen any games. Racing was cool, but duelling appealed. This only augments his desire to go big. If he can hit two opponents at once with his attack, that adds a lot of pizzazz to his performance. The new-found love of the sport also inspires Donald to learn to do this, which makes it a good fit.

Between the new love of sports, feeling like he needs to make a big show to make up for his age, and wanting to push himself to be better, Spell Spread makes a lot of sense for him.

The boy laid in his bed at home, after getting his textbooks from Flourish and Blotts in Diagon Alley, he had his darkly colored blanket cloaking him. His room was made to appear like the main room of Gringotts, where everyone enters, or rather, the wizard folks. These Wizard Folks that entered his family's house would look at the profiles on the wall and groan. They really did think so lowly of goblins, and apparently, they scoffed at the sight for every goblin made item. Goblins were quite renowned for their ability to craft items through metal, especially for a crown.

So, with that in mind, the Wizard Folks, of whom Clark didn't know, approached him in his room and one of them rolled their green eyes. The first one to enter the room shook her hair, then reached into her bag, pulling out a stack of textbooks, leafing through the books, and told the boy to be careful with the spells. He was given a gift! Only for Clark to soon find out that these people that came in were his father's new friends. But what interested Clark, was the Defense Against the Dark Arts textbooks. Clark laughed, grabbing his walnut wand, with the phoenix feather, and knew he was not allowed to cast spells at home because of the Trace.

The sound of laughter escaped the boy's throat. He had a desire to prevent himself from evil. So, without talking, at all, he just made random movements with the wand, reading through the later years' spells. Clark just smiled, his eyebrows furrowed. He then put down his wand, and began reading through the textbooks incoherently, at the level of a mumble. It was hard to hear the boy, but in this way, he couldn't cast any spells and break the rules.

He read through the spells and noticed spells that intrigued him. "Riddiculus. The boggart banishing spell. And this is the spell that can ward off Boggarts, or rather, cause them to be- vanished-Banished? Interesting." He deemed it interesting, flipping the page to another interesting spell. "The Revulsion Jinx? Well, I just have to say Relashio, don't I? It shouldn't be too hard. It sounds pretty cool, allowing you to make other people drop whatever they were holding." He smiled, his eyes twinkled. "GASP! THE SNAKE SUMMONING CHARM! Oh, this is the best book ever! Serpensortia, it seems I will have to say. And to counter that, I see there's the snake vanishing spell! To say the spell, it would be Vipera Evanesca- which seemed to mean 'snake vanish'.'" He flipped to the next page, trying to keep his mind focused on memorizing these spells. He was going to use them one way or another, and no one could change his mind. "Someone told me about this spell, a few rumors about it, there was once a rumor that when the professors were kids they would use them on each other, just so they could sneak out. Petrificus Totalus, the Full-Body Bind curse." The boy sighed, happily. He closed the textbook, thinking he learned enough for right now.

Clark walked out of his room, repeating the incantation and spell purpose, and what it does. For his nightly reading, he reads everything there is to read in his Defense Against The Dark Arts textbook.

Describe why this fits your character: (819/400 words)

As a child, Galadriel barely socialized with any of the other children. For the most part, her childhood consisted of her avoiding socializing with other children, instead choosing to mainly read books and sometimes play sports. This was encouraged by her parents, who were pureblood supremacists and disapproved of their only daughter interacting with muggles. It was further enforced when her parents installed an iron, twelve-foot high fence around the entire house property.

Galadriel never cared about the genre, the topic, the author, she only cared that she could read the book and that she could understand it. After receiving good grades on a recent test, her mother decided to treat her- she took Galadriel to Flourish and Blotts, a bookstore with magic books in stock. Arriving at the bookstore was like arriving at an entirely new world for Galadriel. Yes, she had been there before, but coming to Flourish and Blotts was always exciting. There were stacks of books upon books that Galadriel had never read- never even seen! She was taken by its studious atmosphere immediately, and began browsing her book options. She picked up books on Herbology, Potions, Magical Creatures- anything and everything. And then- one section in the store caught her eye especially. Magical languages. Galadriel was ecstatic. Here it was, an entirely new topic she had never been able to get her small, grubby, eight-year-old hands on. She immediately started looking through those books, completely disregarding the other books she had intentions on buying. Galadriel found book after book about the Trolls', Goblins', and Giants' languages, she was having a wonderful time browsing their contents- and then, one particular book caught her sharp eye. A book teaching the language of Veela. Interestingly enough, Galadriel's father had just finished up a job that involved a Veela. The Veela had decided it was a good idea to start dancing in the middle of a town at nighttime, and it drew the attention of the muggle males in the village. Of course, then the muggle women in the town got jealous, made the Veela mad, and then the Veela changed into Harpy form. Galadriel's father, as an Obliviator, was sent by the British Ministry of Magic to deal with the aftermath.

Anyways, Galadriel's curiosity meter skyrocketed, and she decided to buy that book along with the other books she had planned to buy. When they got home, she holed up in her room and spent the next hour or so studying the book. She would take small breaks to read from the other books she had bought from the store, or perhaps to jot down notes on a small writing pad she had beside her. It took her only about two month to learn the common verbs, and another three months to learn common nouns. She spent the rest of that year piecing the words together to form sentences. She read and learned about the grammar of the language, the spelling, the pronunciation- everything she would need to learn to be able to speak the Veela language fluently.

Finally, after a year and a half of intense studying, she was ready for some hands-on experience. Her father and mother had been discussing this option for a while now, ever since Galadriel had become fluent in her Veela vocabulary. They decided they would take Galadriel to an area where a few Veelas lived, so Galadriel could talk with them.

After arriving at the area and booking a hotel, Galadriel and her father went to visit a theater, where they heard a Veela was preforming. When they arrived at the theater, they were unlucky enough to only watch the end- where the princess turns into a hideous creature and is banished forever. Except- the Veela was using her powers- in front of muggles. She was playing the beautiful princess part, then using magic to transform into a hideous creature.

Since using magic in front of muggles wasn't allowed, Galadriel's father quietly waited for the Veela to finish the performance, and for the muggles to leave. After the muggles left, the Veela noticed Galadriel's father and attempted to flee, but her father used the Incarcerous spell to capture the Veela. He attempted to scold the Veela, and give her a warning, but the Veela refused to listen, instead shouting at him in her language. This repeated for a while, until Galadriel finally decided to try out her new vocabulary on the Veela.

She spoke quietly to the Veela in the Veela's language, and the Veela's eyes widened in surprise. After listening to Galadriel's words, she accepted the firm admonishing from Galadriel's father. Later that night, Galadriel's father sent an owl to the Ministry, who immediately dispatched another Obliviator to help Galadriel's father wipe all the muggles' memories, and the entire fiasco turned out alright.

However that one interaction solidified what Galadriel had set out to do: Master the Veela language.

ra pays more attention and notices external factors like sounds, vibrations, and people, yet she is also perceptive enough to catch things before others do. Nobody has ever been able to understand when she has complained about feeling as though others are watching her when she is supposed to be doing something, making her unable to complete the activity as directed, or when objects have been moved from their intended location to another. When Ara rescued herself and other people from several problems, it was useful at other times. She can't figure out how they don't notice anything when it's so difficult to do so, but they don't comprehend why she finds it bothersome that she observes so much.

She is therefore skilled at recognizing irregularities that deviate from the norm and appear in unexpected places. He finds it difficult to let go of a problem until he has identified it and, ideally, fixed it. Ara studies everything around her as she enters a new setting. She pays attention to the small details in people and places, and it's easy for her to remember how a location used to appear, helping her to see changes that have been made.

Ara has a skill where she can tell if they're lying, uncomfortable, or just if something was not right because they're breathing changed, body language is different or many more factors. This is what she calls 'reading' people or things. She'll use their eyes, breathing patterns, facial expressions, body language, and . She has been called 'creepy or 'a stalker' by kids before when she told them about her observations. Now she calls her them 'hunches' if she's not that sure about it but it has some sort of evidence.

One time, when Ara was 8. There was a new nanny for her and her siblings who were not in Hogwarts yet. The new nanny was a muggle. She had a nice background and had work experience, unlike the teenagers who applied for the job. Although she was not allowed to know about magic, Ara's parents told her that kids have an extensive imagination. Her parents also made her and her siblings call her "Miss Rose". It was Miss Rose's first day, she came in with 2 trunks on either hand. She was going to live there, in one of the many guest rooms. Once she came in, Ara knew something was off. The way she spoke, it seemed menacing. The way it seemed like she was lying when she said some things. The ravenette wanted to investigate at once and tell her family, but she didn't have enough evidence.

It wasn't long until things started to go missing, but it seemed like only Ara noticed. But then it became more frequent, almost like Miss Rose was letting down her guard. Ara only had suspicions and small evidence but she had a plan to set up for the nanny to fall into. Ara put her necklace, it was a family heirloom that ages older that was made a bit more than a century ago. She set the necklace and the trap with her brother, Edmund who was also suspecting Miss Rose of theft. And low and behold, Miss Rose fell for it and stole the necklace. Ara told her parents about her suspicions, plan, and everything about how Miss Rose was stealing. And they believed it. The family searched Miss Rose's room and all of the stolen things were there. The aftermath for Miss Rose was not pretty. She was sent to the muggle authorities to be dealt with.

Throughout her childhood, there was no doubt that Aisley was strikingly pretty for her age, and it only became more present as she got older. It seemed she had gained all of the good genes from her parents. The clear and glowy skin, eyes that seemed to put you in a trance, and attractive body shape. She was the girl that got stared at for too long by people. The girl that entranced people with just a smile. The girl that was so pretty, jealousy got the better of others.

The afternoon sun shone brightly as the Year 3 (second grade) students were playing on the small play structure. The light seemed to hit Aisley in the right way, her dirty blonde hair shining in the light as her small frame swung from the monkey bars. When she finished swinging from bar to bar and began to climb down, a boy in her class, William, approached her.

"You look really pretty!" He had said to her just as she'd landed back on solid ground.

Aisley didn't know what to do except smile and thank the kid, her cheeks heating up as Will began to walk away again. I mean, the boy who every other girl had a crush on just said that she looked pretty! About four other girls who had heard the small exchange stared over at the girl in jealousy. They wanted to be her, stand in Aisley's spot as the prettiest boy in the class told them they were pretty. Jealousy can be a powerful weapon, one that makes people do terrible things.

Next thing Aisley knew, she was pulled off the monkey bars and to the ground by a girl with red hair, Charlotte. She screamed as the girl yanked her by her ankles and her hands lost grip on the metal bars. Landing on her wrist to break her fall, the crack of her arm was only audible to her ears as Charlotte began to throw insults at her. Tears flowed down her face as she held her wrist to her chest, Charlotte's three friends began to surround her and repeat the insults. Tears freely streamed down her face by the time a teacher came to intervene.

The four girls were suspended for a week and Aisley was brought to a Hospital for an X-ray and a diagnosis from a doctor. She ended up having a broken wrist and was in a cast for almost eight weeks before she was given a removable splint. All because she was a gorgeous girl and jealousy got the better of four others.

It was needless to say that Duvessa Ember's first year at Hogwarts had changed her. Coming from the Ember Manor, her home, she had been a fiery creature yet full of lively passion. Sure, slightly intimidating and an obvious Perfectionist nature. And now, after her first year, a change had inflicted upon her gradually.

She walked with the elegance and grace of a dancer, had stunning sharp eyes that seemed to notice about everything yet the confidence and direct manner made her truly formidable. Arrogant in her ways and an unsettling aura around her seemed to have an impact on people watching. While not exactly been described as kind before, and seldom laughed, she became more distant.

A fight with her friend brought jealousy, unlocking a new side of Duvessa. She was your bestest friend if you did have that chance but to others, nothing in short but... cold. She had made amends, true, after nights of crying that seemed to have shone the world into a new light. She slowly began to get less friendly and a permenant frown creased her forehead.

When someone approached, she wouldn't act kind. No, the Slytherin gave students a full display of her scowl. Later in the evenings in the dorms, when few students were about, she sat composed in her armachair near the fire. The flames crackled continually but some students didn't like to stand there, the presence of the young Slytherin too unpleasent to even enjoy her company.

Due to her dry reputation and arrogance that she displayed often, some people began to feel something in their bones urging them away or something, something that was hard to explain with just words. But soon, people began to realize. The source was her. When people passed her, their brain played tricks with them and declared that she wasn't a nice person to be next to, the feeling lingering for a couple of seconds after Duvessa had left.

They began to understand that something wasn't right about her. Most regarded her as an unpleasent person to talk to - and where probably right. Not many wished to interact, nor bother to make friends. But to those who did rarely left with a new friend. Duvessa began to keep herself to herself, her unruly tongue from years ago slightly more tamed, but ready as ever to stab the person with cutting remarks or comments so arrogant and unfriendly.

Reducio
You are a child of two worlds. What you may lack in the magical world, you make up with experience in the muggle world. Even the strongest of wizards may be caught off guard with your clever use of muggle items. Don't have those? Your fists work in a pinch.

Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it): [421/400 WC]

Being raised by a squib in the muggle borough of Falmouth, Alora J. Graves was always around Muggle technology and their way of life. Granted, her first instance of magic did bring her brother and aunt into her life, allowing her to keep a toe in each world so to speak. Despite their assurance that her abilities were natural, and introducing her to some portions of the Magical world, they never really showed her how far it extended, always keeping within caution of her mother's wrath when it came to magic and the mayhem it caused. After all, she was kept in the dark for so long because the woman who was deprived of magic wanted nothing to do with it.

At Hogwarts, there was certainly a time of adjustment for Alora. She realized early on that she had a certain dependency on things from her life prior to school. She missed her switch, and her computer; she missed instant messaging and endless scrolling of videos. Though she loves magic and certainly could never merely go back into the Muggle world, she plans to use her summer to rekindle with all the things she missed from her videogames to her laptop. She's also hoping to get a new phone since she fried hers within the walls of Hogwarts, not believing that technology and magic didn't quite mix. It was a tragic day, and she still maintains the pieces of the burnt and broken device left. Who knows, maybe there's some odd warranty she can put to use!

Given that she has a squib for her mother and most of her magical family don't live under the same roof, she knows she won't be able to use magic while at home. It's why she decided to stay at camp. When she does return, though, she likely won't look at a single textbook. Plus, she has all these awesome muggle things to show her best friend Colin over the summer! Her magical friends have questions, questions she's kept in a notebook which she plans to google her heart away to be able to explain to them everything she can, from sutures to electricity, and why was the rubber duck invented anyways? What's the point of Google and nearly a soccer team's worth of siblings if you can't pick their brains? Plus, after so many months away from home, surely they would welcome the company? She sure wants to spend time with her siblings, even those she doesn't get along with at home...like Charlotte.
