The manner in which a parent names a child can say very much or nothing at all. One may go by sound, by meaning, or by familial significance. There is no distinct hierarchy in which the three aforementioned aspects ought to be considered although it is standard to go by one or another. However, as the enterprising man in bioengineering he was, Takeshi Yamauchi took a business-oriented route to naming his children. His first daughter, Chieko Yamauchi was born to Takeshi and Misaki Yamauchi on the day of Yamauchi Enterprises' formation. Her name, meaning "child of one thousand blessings," was chosen to signify the start of one thousand successful days for the company. His son, Kyo Yamauchi, meaning "cooperation," symbolized the start of an important business partnership two years later. A year later, his second son Tatsuki Yamauchi's name, meaning "standing on one's own," was made to symbolize the rupture of said partnership. His third son, Kioshi Yamaguchi, was given a name to represent skill in trickery. His forth son, as was planned, would have carried the name, Tsuyoshi Yamaguchi, a name to represent indestructibility. However, the child was not conceived.

In the cold nearing winter, Kirara Yamauchi was born instead and a few months too late. The family, natives of Hokkaido, had been upended from their mountain manor after one move of ill-played trickery had destroyed the reputation of Yamauchi Enterprises for good.

It was in a fit of panic that Takeshi discovered and purchased their homestead-to-be on Skokholm Island. Why else would an urban Japanese family choose to relocate to the remote Welsh countryside other than to escape all judgement and shame? Farming, although not a lucrative career nor something Takeshi had experience in, was deemed appropriate for a man who believed himself to be shamed in the business world permanently.

At the time, it had seemed ideal. The farmhouse was quite old but had withstood years of rain and wind. It had sufficient bedrooms for each child and complete privacy from neighbors who lived miles away.

Kirara, a newborn at the time of moving, grew to enjoy it deeply. Life on an island provided few safety risks. Hence, the children were encouraged to take advantage of their free range after finishing their homeschooling tasks. The tasks, usually, were extensive. Neither of her parents believed in obsolescence. English, Japanese, math, science, history, and music were all required daily along with two hours of "free reading."

In reality, Kirara's study usually took up longer than the allotted time. She preferred reading to outdoor play even in the warmer months. Her particular preference was for fairytales and myths. Greek, Roman, Chinese, Japanese, Egyptian, Norse... The young witch memorized many from each culture and, on occasion, forced her siblings to reenact them with her.

Thus was her idea of fun as a child. She spent hours with each of her passions: reading stories, drawing scenery, "crafting" swords, examining artifacts in the attic, helping her parents in the kitchen, swimming if the weather provided, solitary exploration. Whereas her siblings would clamor for trips to the mainland, Kira's ability to amuse herself even on a remote island was unparalleled.

Hence, naturally, Kira was the first of the Yamauchi siblings to leave Skokholm. The news came on her 11th birthday as a shock to all there to witness it. The Yamauchi family did not believe in magic. They believed in science, math, engineering, and traditional education. It was utterly impossible that Takeshi and Misaki, two utterly normal (although that was a stretch) individuals would birth a witch. Furthermore, sending their precious youngest to boarding school so soon seemed like an unreasonable request. How were they to trust these "magic people" if every factor seemed to be a hoax? However, it became clear that there was no other choice. These fraudsters had come as far as Skokholm and, apparently, knew their daughter's name and odd behaviors. With begrudging acceptance, Kirara was enrolled in Hogwarts for the upcoming year.

First Instance of Magic:
Reducio
In a household with five children, individual attention was limited. Hence, when three-year-old Kirara was, with a disproportionate amount of care, attempting to climb the farmhouse bookcases, neither parent was around to see the true "first instance of magic." Her hands and feet gripped the edges of the shelves firmly as she pushed herself upwards.

Her parents were tall. Kira wished to see from their perspective for once. Thus, the idea to sit atop the tallest bookshelf had formed. However, her small body had not yet caught up to her mind's innovative spirit. Hence, with a singular misplaced step, Kirara lost her grip.

In that moment, as if at will, a force slowed her fall, guiding her gently to the floor. The toddler gave the shelf a few confused blinks. Had she not fallen? Was that not supposed to hurt? Kira toddled off in the opposite direction, confused but altogether unaffected. Later, when trying to climb into her bunk bed, Kirara would let go and expect to land in the same way. Absolutely not. She sprained her ankle.

Character name: Astria Raine
School Year or Adult Level: First Year
Link to the character page: This is just a url to your encyclopedia.
Character Stats 30 (OOC: idk how stats work bc I've never played DnD or anything like it)
Character Special Race/Talent: Parselmouth
Application for Parselmouth: Astria's mother (a pureblood) is distantly related to the Gaunt family, who spoke Parseltongue. That gene passed on to her mother, and then Astria. Astria discovered she could speak the language when her mother bought a pet snake, and as Astria was looking at it, she started to talk to it. Her mother heard hissing noises, and ran to Astria. That's when they discovered that she could speak Parseltongue, as Astria was the one making the hissing noises, and her mother could understand her. For fun, Astria and her mother speak Parseltongue to each other, and have a pet snake at home that they speak to. It fits her character because although she's a Hufflepuff, her pureblood mother passed on the ability.
Character Backstory: Astria Nova Raine, was born to Autumn Raine (nee. Isolde) (Ravenclaw) and Ender Raine (Gryffindor). Her father is a Muggle-Born (a Squib and a Muggle) and her mother is a pure-blood. Astria is very kind, caring, clever, and funny. She has two other siblings, Celestia and Zane, who are both Squibs. She has many friends, and nearly all teachers love her because she is a pleasure to have in class, is respectful, and is a top student. She is not a rule-breaker, however, she is slightly mischievous at times, but does not get caught. If she does, the teachers usually let it go because it is something small. Astria is known for her smarts, kindness, and humor, and is considered fun by her peers. She likes to wear a matching bow with her school uniform and outfits. Her favorite hobbies are reading (she loves murder mysteries, thrillers, horror, and fantasy), writing, listening to music, playing her instrument (flute) and drawing.
First Instance of Magic: Her first instance of magic was when she was 3, and was playing the bathtub with a rubber duck. She made the duck swim around on its own, by accident as she was playing. Her parents were thrilled knowing their daughter was a witch.

Being the oldest child with 8 younger siblings, in a lower class family with parents that are intense about you being the first in the family to get a high paying job is not for the weak. Sako could never understand those who preferred going back in time to be a child again. To him, he hadn't been able to get that sort of luxury. His childhood involved a lot of pushing through late night study sessions at the empty end of the family restaurant, while you hear your parents busying themselves in the kitchen, free babysitting, and obeying whatever his parents commands him to do.

His parents, Kanon & Hayate Sako were wizardborn staff workers in a normal family restaurant. Even when they choose not to reached higher education, they certainly made it a huge deal for Sako to pursue his. Seeing education as a way out of their difficult lifestyle. Their. Not his. As the oldest, there were no 'things he wanted', but more so 'things he could do for his family'. His youth was… as he bitterly puts ' robbed '.

Still, he was driven by the promise of a good life after he traded his youth to grind for his future. Aim for being a representative, Sako. Be a club leader, Sako. Get golden robes by the time you're a 4th year, Sako! Bosses will want to hire you and girls will admire you! It'll make his education in Mahoutokoro worth it. Who cares if he never had a friend group or a girlfriend. Those things are sure to come to him after he graduates with golden robes.

And he finds out pretty fast that while his achievements does attract first dates, 2nd dates are…. rare. Enough to be able to count on his hands.

His academics quickly got him a steady job, at least. Working up his way from a personal aide, to a student lawyer, and finally finding comfortable as a lawyer. Every time he feels like his life gets better, he gets dumped over and over again. Frustrated between feeling like he needed no one with a career like this, and yearning for someone special enough to complete his life.

At 27. fate bought him together with someone - finally. The relationship extending more than 1 year got him excitable about finally completing a hard earned chapter in his life. Even going as far as making a big career change simply because his now fiancee said he wanted to be with someone who lead the next generations youth instead of a lawyer with flimsy morals to adjust to a clients best interest. That was perhaps a red flag, but Sako hadn't thought of it until after he had already applied to be a headmaster to his old academy: Mahoutokoro. On the dinner where he wanted to share her the good news, she had shared hers first. She admits to be developing feelings for someone else, requesting to end their engagement with teary eyes and tears streaming down her face.

With his ego shattered, and his pride drowning out his despair, he thought that being a headmaster at Mahoutokoro was the real blessing in disguise. Now all he had to do was hide the fact he envies the youth, and be a headmaster that is good enough to be able to rub it in his ex's face and her snotty little new boyfriend.

Kotoka Sako. Mahoukotoro headmaster. He quite liked how that sounded.
First Instance of Magic:
Note some things that changed from his original validation:
- Pureblood status -> Wizard born

Being a wizardborn, and growing up in the magical community, it was bound to happen at some point. All started with his mothers attempt to bring him out to grocery shop with her at age 6, while his father worked late. Sako unfortunately, was a rather fussy child that excitably wanted everything in the store. Not understanding yet that money was a concept, he was forcibly carried away from the store to avoid unwanted looks at his temper tantrums. On the way out he sees a boy slightly older than him carrying a basket of goods. Perhaps it was the way this boy wore the same colored shirt as him, or the way their hairs were styled the same way. Sako's tantrum went for the worse.

Heightened by his rage of envy, a few items from the cart levitated from the cart. Round shaped items covered in wrap flung straight to Sako. With haste of panic, his mother turned her body to shield Sako from the 2 items directed to them. The items though - seemed to be soft enough not to cause her injury upon impact before they fell to the floor.

Sako hadn't remembered much after that. Only his mother frantically apologising to the other boy's parent while his stopped his crying and looked down at the circle shaped items. He still remembered what it said.

Bleh.

And he found out years later it wasn't bleh, but brie. But more importantly, a few months later a potted plant with a miniature cherry blossom tree showed up at their small studio apartment. Signalling the early start of Sako's education in Mahoutokoro at age 7 in day school.

For Tessie Cadell, Parseltongue would not feel rare or extraordinary. It would just feel… normal.
Almost expected actually, she grew up in a quiet home where conversation was never constant and affection only appeared occasionally. Her parents travelled often, and even when they were there, their attention belonged to their work, their duties, their reputation, not the needs of a child, therefore the ability to understand snake will reflect her already established lifestyle.
Tessie learned early not to expect noise and be uncomfortable with human interactions. She became used to being alone and existing in silence. Because of that, speaking Parseltongue would not feel like gaining something new. It would fit into the life she had always lived, one with very little connections, but not completely empty.
Her world was built on observation instead of connection. She watched more than she spoke. Speaking to a snake would not feel stranger than speaking to a person. In some ways, it would feel easier, because she never truly learned how to speak to people her own age.
Medusa, the black snake gifted to her on her fifth birthday, was the closest thing she had ever had to a friend. Medusa was always there, coiled in her bed, resting on her shoulders, or wrapped in her hand. She never “begged” for attention yet her presence is still felt. Sissy would sit with her for hours, reading quietly or simply thinking, and Medusa would stay beside her, still present but not in a suffocating way she thinks other people tend to do. In some ways, Medusa is part of Tes.
At some point, Tessie realised that when she spoke, Medusa reacted to her vpice. She would tilt her head slightly in an intentional way. Tessie never questioned it. It did not feel strange. It felt natural. Comfortable. Sometimes, she would even understand her, she knew when she was hungry, tired, bored, playful. But it was just her snake right? Everyone knows their pets.
It was only when others saw it that she understood it was not considered “normal2. The household staff avoided Medusa, and they watched Sissy differently when she spoke to her. Their discomfort was obvious, even when they tried to hide it. That was what confused Tessie the most. To her, there was nothing bizarre about being understood. Human interaction had always felt unfamiliar and forced, so why was it so wrong that something finally made sense?
Sissy always struggled to show emotion (something she got from her father), she does not naturally offer smiles or reassurance. She doesn’t speak just to fill silence. People often mistake this for coldness, but it’s control. She simply does not see the need to perform emotion for the comfort of others- it is the same as lying.
Snakes never required that from her- a fake personality
They did not expect over explanations. They responded to presence. With Medusa, Tessie never had to pretend to be softer or more open than she truly was. She could just exist and be there, and that was enough. It was easy. It felt real.
Parseltongue would not change her or make her more isolated than she already is, because loneliness had never frightened her. It would only reflect who she had always been: quiet, observant, and different.
Witches and wizards like Salazar Slytherin were known for this ability, and their names became tied to power and fear. But for Tessie, it would not represent power.
It would represent familiarity and the closest thing to comfort she has.
It would be the language of the only creature that had never expected anything from her. Parseltongue would be the one thing that was entirely hers. Not taught. Not forced. Not inherited as duty or silly traditional values her mother cherished so much…
Just something that had always been there.
Not a “sign” of what she might become, but proof of what she has always been.

Character Backstory:
Reducio
Her mother, Alexandra André-Lavigne (a half-blood from France), married Gabriel Cadell (a pure-blood from France) at the age of twenty in an arranged marriage, as was expected within their prestigious and deeply traditional families. Her father works in the Ministry, and his job requires frequent business trips, journeys her mother always joins. Tessie has grown up under the weight of these same expectations, with her future often feeling decided long before she could shape it herself.

Known more widely as “Tessie,” she is often feared or respected, though she tries not to live up to these assumptions-something she unconsciously fails at. Reserved at first but debatably chaotic once comfortable, she is loyal, determined, and far more introspective than she appears. Books have always been easier than people; many think she is too “unsensitive,” a trait she inherited from her family.

She spends most of her time in her dorm or room, and even her closest "friends" know little about her life outside Hogwarts. An academic weapon, she constantly searches for new ways of seeing magic and life, believing the magical world to be a revolutionary bubble. Some call her inhumane for her strict schedule, starting her day at 4 a.m. and ending it no later than 10 p.m., but it allows her to stay productive and devoted to her studies and research.

Her closest companion is her pet snake, Medusa, gifted to her on her fifth birthday.

Tessie was born and raised in France, and moved to England at the age of nine. Not by choice, but by necessity.

Her father’s work required constant travel between both countries, and over time, remaining in France became impractical. The family eventually relocated to Nottingham for the sake of stability and duty. The decision was not discussed with her.

England became her home in title, but not in feeling. Tessie accepted it without protest, understanding from a young age that life was shaped by responsibility and sacrifices. The move reinforced what she had always been taught: that doing what was necessary often meant sacrifice, and that sacrifice was simply part of who she was meant to be.

First Instance of Magic:
Reducio
During her childhood, Tessie often felt something was off, but it fully manifested when she was eight. Alone in her family home (her parents away on a business trip and the servants on holiday) she wandered into the garden on a bright, sunny day.

She sat on her favourite bench and began reading. When she looked up, she noticed her shadow was slightly… off. She stood, but it moved out of sync, trailing behind as if it had a mind of its own. Part of her panicked; the other part was mesmerised by the unexplainable.

Martin’s grandfather on his mother’s side was Jacob Murdoch— a halfblood wizard and seer, born a bastard child to a disgraced pureblooded mother. Jacob felt the only way to compensate for this “lesser” reputation was with undeniable intelligence and ability. Surpassing any pre-conceived notions about him or his family liniage. This was how he raised his daughter, and although she didn’t nearly internalize such insecurity about her blood status or reputation, Jacob continued to place this world view on young Martín as the boy grew up.
Before Martín received his Hogwarts letter, his grandpa supplemented much of his early schooling with private lessons in his home. With Marty’s parents working, there’d be times he and his granddad happened to be the only two in the house. Jacob did have much love for the boy, but Martín couldn’t help but be unsettled by his cryptic lessons on the magical world. Then, there were also the stories his grandpa would tell; especially tales of the four houses of Hogwarts, which fascinated Marty. By morbid curiosity alone, he couldn’t help but want to know more.

February 2021

One rainy day, Jacob told young Martín the tale of Salazar Slytherin and his basilisk. For the first time, the boy felt what could only be described as true fear within his heart. What a horrible man, a horrible wizard..
“He’s not at Hogwarts anymore?” Marty asked his grandfather.
“No, not for years and years. He left because he despised muggleborns so much. Though some say his descendants are among us-” Jacob began to prattle on.
“No, the basilisk, granddad.” Martín clarified. “And did he know that Slytherin wanted to hurt people..?”
There was silence for a moment.
“What an odd question.” Jacob seemed almost frozen, experiencing altogether a rush of deja vu. “I’m sorry, I wouldn't be able to ask the snake to find out.” He attempted to joke, ignoring such cloudy feelings.
“Why couldn’t you ask? Maybe it’s not his fault.” Marty objected. He was growing flustered, it seemed like a million things were floating around in his head.
His grandfather put a hand on his shoulder. He wanted to be patient, so that those anxieties deep within him might not become true. “I think you’re getting worked up over a story. Think about.. what you’re trying to say, alright?”
Martín sniffled. “Snakes aren't all bad. What if he needs help?”
“The basilisk’s dead, Marty.” Jacob said simply, and the boy again went silent. “Why do you care so much about the snake?”
“Why couldn't someone ask the snake? Or.. try and talk to him-” Martín attempted to reason.
“Only a parselmouth could.” His grandfather countered. “They’re wizards… born able to communicate with snakes; supposedly related in some way to Salazar, though, only quite distantly, and really-” He brushed off.
At this, little Martín began to cry. “I didn’t know I shouldn’t of spoken to them…”
Tears welled down from his cheeks as he tried to snottily rub them away with the sleeve of his robe.
“I didn’t know…It’s not my fault, the snakes, they were talking to me.” He tried to say. “They did in America, and here, in the garden. I don't want to be like Salazar Slytherin. I’m not, granddad. I’m not!”
Jacob hated the truth was right in front of him, as it often appeared, and all he wanted to do was ignore it, however much he knew that’d be impossible for him to do.
“Quiet now. Come here.” He huffed, though he meant it with care. “Does your Ma know? Does anyone?”
“No. My cousins in America thought it was all pretend-”
His granddad picked him up, placing him onto his lap. “That’s a good thing, kid. Don’t pay the snakes attention now. Alright?”
Martín sniffled.
“Parselmouths and snakes..” His grandfather said with disdain. “That can become part of your reputation. It’s just another reason people think you can’t be trusted. Don’t give that to anyone. Don’t give into it.”
All Martín could imagine was growing up with some kind of evil he couldn’t control– it slowly steeping in, changing him, changing him into someone he didn’t want to be.
Jacob spoke to him solemnly. “You remember what I told you about the Slytherin house? A lot of powerful, pureblooded wizards.” He began. “Those families, they have it all, and whether they show it or not, they look down on us half-bloods. And of course, the muggleborns get the worst of it. But you, you’ve got a chance I didn’t have, just like your mother. Both your parents, wizards, and you’ve got me and your Abuela, too. You’ve got to show them you can compete when you get to Hogwarts. That you deserve there just as much as anyone. Don’t let anything give them a reason not to let you in. Got that? You’re a promising wizard. No “evil from Salazar Slytherin” can control you, not if you control it.”
Jacob embraced his grandson.
Yes, granddad.” Was all Martín could whisper.
When he’d hear those curious hissing voices in the garden, that same fear would wash over him, the thought of a horrible wizard, and some great, evil basilisk. He’d run away from the garden, to the comfort of his room, or his grandpa’s study. Anywhere he could drown out the fear in his heart.
Marty couldn’t stand snakes after that lesson. He doesn’t like them much at all nowadays, and it’s been quite a long time since he wondered what their perspective was on things.
He keeps his ability a deep secret aside from the very rare late discussion with his grandfather. Jacob is still a closed off old man, about his visions which still come and go, but more importantly about any of his true thoughts or feelings. Currently, Martín still denies his “talent”, as if that’ll make it disappear. Perhaps being at Hogwarts will allow him to realize it doesn’t define him as he fears it will.

Character Backstory:
Reducio
Around 2011, Arturo met Lucia Murdoch for the first time while she was temporarily living in Southern California. Seeking an escape from her father’s pressure, she made the decision to develop her trade of medicine and healing elsewhere from her home of Ireland. Much of Martín’s exposure to the magical world was through his parents and their professional lives as trained doctors and practicing healers. They treasured their work, and after his mother received a job offer back in Dublin, their family moved over to Ireland when Martín was just 5 years old.
To step back;
It was July of 2014 when Martín was born to wizard-born Lucia Murdoch and halfblood Arturo Bernal in the sunny land of East Los Angeles, where he would be raised for the first few years of his life, and his younger sister, Daniela, would also be born just before his third birthday. Going back two generations, Los Angeles was where his father’s extended muggle and wizarding family resided. Many of them, including his father, were graduates of Ilvermorny, though a handful also made the choice to attend Castelobruxo. During this time, he and his parents would visit Dublin a few months out of the year in order to stay close with their other side of wizarding heritage as well. Martín was very close to his cousins on his fathers side, especially his older prima, Beatrix, a 3rd year at Ilvermorny who treats him just like a younger brother. Aside from visits and holidays, they currently still correspond by owl.
Residing in Dublin, Lucia Murdoch’s parents were both wizards of different worlds. Her mother, Maricela, was a halfblood Castelobruxo graduate. While her father, Jacob, was the bastard child of a pureblood witch and a muggle. He was a seer, and graduate of Ravenclaw. Lucia had followed in her father’s footsteps at Hogwarts, but for many years, she found herself unable to meet his expectations for her life and career. In recent years, they’d grow close again. Perhaps Jacob realized his mistakes pushed his eldest daughter away, but Maricela worries old habits die hard– as Jacob has a familiar concern for his grandson’s magical education. She still hopes Martín can find his own way at Hogwarts, even if it is not what others may have in mind for him.
When he was young, the move came as a challenge for Martín. But with time, he does consider Dublin his beloved home. Aside from summers, the other piece of his heart, Los Angeles, stayed now on the other side of the wizarding world. One thing Marty could never be rid of was his American hobbies inherited from Arturo and the other side of his family, even growing up so far from them the last few years.

First Instance of Magic:
Reducio
At age 3, Martín found himself wandering a busy birthday celebration in a backyard. With Aunts and uncles chatting, his cousins running around, he isn’t quite sure where to turn— when a familiar cheer arises with the reveal of a colorful piñata. It’s what every child was waiting for at the party. Even with magic imbued amongst them, his family kept the piñata traditional, only the handmade animal hanging from a rope in a fight with a wooden stick in the hands of many children, waiting eagerly for their turn. As his cousin went up for her turn, she beckoned for him to do the honors of making the first hit. Small Martin ran ahead with a lack of any caution at all. Where the piñata was secured to a scrawny tree, the mediocre knot loosened. A weighted paper-maché animal full of candy was about to fall full force upon Martín, who was mid swing with his scrawny stick. Suddenly, with magic out of the boy’s control and before many of the unaware parents even noticed, the piñata began to float up as if the candy inside it had been replaced with pure, light air.

It was two years before her 11th birthday, before the Hogwarts representative came to their place, that she learnt about the family’s Dhampiar lineage. What happened was 4 generations before Angel’s, her Grandma, Dimitra Dayes was the very first of the Dayes family to be a vampire.

At one point in time, in order to start this tradition, Dimitra fell in love with a man, a human, his name was Lawrence. When they first met they both knew they were different but of course, it didn't change their relationship. She had married him and had given birth to a pair of twins, a baby boy named Eric and a baby girl named Nancy. They were both Dhampiar’s, taking after their father and their mother, which started the, the next child or children born into the Dayes family will be a dhampiar.

So, the last dhampiars before Angel would be her Aunt Journee, Uncle Riley, and of course her own father Robert Dayes. In her time in this world, Angel hadn’t actually gotten the chance to meet her Aunt and Uncle who came from Dad’s side of the family, but she had always heard stories about her parent’s family history although it was mostly from her Father's side she didn't know much about. Just, nobody mentioned anything about her own Father being a dhampiar until they realized that Angel was the newest generation of the dhampiar trend in the Dayes family, only her parents knew about the Dhampiar lineage except her. She always questioned her father about his side of the family but was often dismissed, and wondered why she had to cover a lot of her skin before going out especially on sunny days.

Of course before her family even mentioned anything to her, at the age of seven, Angel started to notice that she was paler than the other kids were. At first, Angel didn’t say anything about it, thinking it was normal to be a lighter color than others, since, to be honest, she wasn’t the only pale kid around, but she was the palest.

Angel wasn’t aware at the time, but whenever it came to candy, she’d always choose to eat a red lollipop, and she considered it normal, but the dhampiar inside of her was just thinking the red lollipop was a blood pop in Muggle form, but it actually wasn’t. Anytime she’d see something red, it would appeal to her; others thought it was her favorite color, but it was just her dhampiar instincts taking over her human ones.

However, this all made sense once Angel was aware of her family’s tradition, and as she heard stories about the dhampiar line in her family, she came to realize that she is a dhampiar. Angel was shocked at first because she thought she couldn’t possibly be any more magical than she already was. But, she’s a witch, since she had received her first instance of magic, and now it’s even clearer that while she’s a witch, she’s also a dhampiar, which means she’s probably like the other kids at the magical school, which she’ll be sent to! And, to express herself as a dhampiar, during Halloween when she was 10, she dressed up as a vampire but didn’t tell anyone she was actually half-vampire, because she didn’t want people to think she was crazy or anything. But maybe at the school she will.

Character Backstory: Angel Dayes was born on June 17, 2014 in Caerphilly Wales, to Robert and Gemma Dayes. Her family, has a wide history with culinary industry, so it is suspected that Angel herself has a good taste for food. Both parents are chefs and widely well known in Caerphilly! She'd enjoy cooking with them and making dishes. Her parents are very busy people. As the only child of the family, high expectations were set and she was expected to have a good future. Although she wasn't really interested in magic or any of the sorts, but she decided that atleast it would be out of the way sooner or later.

Before going to Hogwarts in her free time she would love to read and go outside and sketch landscapes. Sometimes she'd love to sleep or sit under the grass and watch the sky. Her parents are busy people, so she keeps herself busy by exploring town and being with friends.

Several years later, when she's 11, a representative from Hogwarts came to her house and sat down with her and her family and informed them that she's a witch and is accepted into Hogwarts. It was a great shock to all of them, the parents were Muggles and it was very confusing for them as they weren't suspecting magic to come from their very own daughter, nevertheless they were proud to know she'll be going to Hogwarts in the future. Angel had a change of heart and was excited and couldn't wait to start her journey at Hogwarts.

First Instance of Magic: On a summer day, somewhat of a month after her 7th birthday, it was nearing dinner time and Angel wanted to have cake specifically vanilla lemon cake with strawberries and icing to top it off. However, she wasn't aloud to. Her parents wasn't going to give her cake for dinner, so she ran to the living room, crouched down near the coffee table, and threw a fit. While she was throwing her fit, the coffee table suddenly cracked in the middle, but didn't fully break. The sound of the crack was loud enough that her parents heard and she stopped in pure fear and confusion.

Reason for Pending:
  1. Dhampir ancestry doesn't work like that. It doesn't skip generations and then reappear. Angel and the generations before her would be Dhampirs and would have their characteristics. Please read this part of the race description. Also, please don't make the vampir/first dhampir generation too far back from your character's lineage. My suggestion is to change the vampire ancestor 3-4 generations before her, making Angel 1/8 Dhampir, strong enough for the trait to show.
  2. You haven't put the backstory (+First Instance of Magic) of Angel that you have been put here in your Encyclopedia Page. Make sure that both what you have written here and the one in your Encyclopedia Page are the same.

On the 13th day of May 2007, the cantankerous secretary of the Dover Register Office duly solemnised the marriage of two recently naturalised British artists: Marko Marin and Marie-Claire Poitrenaud. The long-standing and rather turbulent relationship between the youngest and prodigal son of a Dalmatian textile dynasty and the sole daughter of a line of culture barons from Nice, which began at a drama academy in Paris, has thus been blessed under the sacred halo of the ink and brush of bureaucracy. Hallelujah!

Like many artsy couples, Roland's parents, too, were of the conviction that having children was a terrible act of selfishness, a sign of immense banality, and a traditional, therefore abhorrent, custom. Marko and Marie-Claire were unyieldingly convinced that it was not their rightful share of the world to be crushing bores, i.e., parents. Yet, almost seven years later, the biology and the midlife crisis gloriously and jointly prevailed. In November 2013, Roland was born. Hallelujah!

The boy named Roland and Domagoj, respectively. The French name came first for simply two reasons: (i) Marko was not at the hospital on the night of the birth as he was on stage (so he had to be punished), (ii) they thought it was a nice sign of anti-patriarchy to prioritise the mother's culture (it was just an intellectual pretext).

Born into a cultured and artistic atmosphere, Roland spent his early childhood in a house where Croatian was mixed with French and English. His parents, regarding schooling as a form of modernist indoctrination project, provided him with an exceptionally free formative environment. Roland consequently sustained frequent broken limbs, primarily his arm, resulting from incidents such as falling off a bicycle or from a tree. He flourished in a broad social circle, but far from his blood relatives (as neither parent was in contact with their own), playing his mother's piano on stage, reciting his father's memorised monologues for a laugh in front of fellow artists, and dashing about the streets. At school, Roland was not particularly popular with his teachers, though this was not because of his grades but rather his persistent absenteeism.

When the Hogwarts letter was finally delivered to this Muggle house in Dover by a Hogwarts delegate, all three Marins, at the same time, were convinced that they were experiencing a very realistic fever dream. Yet, when the foreigner diligently and patiently explained the situation to them in an almost unprecedentedly reassuring manner, "I knew he was chosen," his mother said; "I thought I was the odd one out in our family," his father murmured; and Roland prayed that the same letter had also arrived for his partner in crime, Nate.

It was a cool October day in 2021. Marlowe's play, The Massacre at Paris, was having its season premiere at the family theatre in Dover, with his father in the lead role and his mother serving as director. In one scene, the elderly actor playing the Admiral forgot his lines. Roland had watched the rehearsals for this scene countless times and noticed that the actor, panicking, couldn't even hear the cue whispered to him from backstage. The line the actor was supposed to say was "Oh, fatal was this marriage to us all," and Roland knew it. He couldn't help but move his lips as he recited the line. The other actor tried to salvage the situation, but the script required him to make the Admiral say the line. Roland felt deeply embarrassed, both for the actor playing the Admiral and for the reputation of the family business. That heavy curtain suddenly broke free from its ropes and closed, magically. "Technical issues," they announced to the audience, though it was never clear what technique exactly had failed.

George and Enid Kempston weren't young parents to say the least. George was a software manager, and Enid worked as a personal assistant. They were 33 when they had Artie's sister, Imogen, and 35 when Artie was born. Even though they were older, it made them care for their children even more. Their children were their world, and because of their age, it made it even more special when they were brought into this world.

His childhood was simple, like many kids are. He would go to school, go home, spend time with his family, and read. He liked reading; in fact, he owned so many books that they typically covered his floor. From a young age, he was advanced in reading, typically reading books that weren’t in his age range. Long, wordy books that told stories of far off places. If you were to ask him what his favorite book was, he would say The Lord of The Rings, because it was a story about a group of friends, and for a kid who had no friends, reading about it helped him feel like he could escape that.

He got along well with his sister, her being his only real friend. Whenever he wasn't reading or doing his schoolwork, he was spending his time with her. They liked to spend time outside together, talking, learning about their lives. She was also his biggest defender, sticking up for him at school, telling children off who were cruel. She wasn't magical, but she was a hero.

Artie attended Webster Primary School, and, as much as he loved to learn, he hated the school with a burning passion. Constantly bullied and made fun of by kids that had nothing better to do with their time would send him home crying, cheeks flushed with anger and fists clenched as he pulled himself back up to his room.

When he got his letter from Hogwarts, he was confused at first. He didn’t fully understand what it meant. I mean, magic? His parents were confused, but supportive, wanting to help anyway that they could. When a staff member from his new school came and explained everything to him, all the sorts from him being magic, to going to a new school where he would be able to fly on brooms and cast spells, he was obsessed. He read every book that he could find in his school's library about magic, but none of them seemed like what the staff member had explained. He wasn't totally prepared, but he was excited.

The family travelled to London, going to Diagon Alley so that he could get his school supplies for the year. While they didn’t really understand it, they were excited for their son. Artie was excited, too. This was his new beginning. His new shot at really making some friends.

First Instance of Magic:

Artie's first instance of magic was on school grounds. He was 10, being bullied, relentlessly pushed around by a group of boys bigger and older than him. He was mad, fuming. The boy who was the leader of the group stood in front of him, a boy who had been bullying him for years. The boy was wearing a brand new hat that he had gotten for his birthday, as Artie glared at him, the boy's hat lit ablaze suddenly. Artie stumbled back as the boy threw the hat to the ground. Running as far away from him as they could.

Her father's constant desire to try to connect to Frances's world, even if well meaning, more than often grated on the young girl. More than once Andrew had made mention of his great grandmother Mirta who he swore up and down was not quite muggle somehow. Frances frequently rolled her eyes at his stories, old Mirta had never actually displayed any form of magic, just a tendency to make quite well aimed, well informed predictions that Frances was sure any mother with enough experience was capable of.

"I swear to you, she came and visited, first time in two years mind you, so she certainly had no clue what my study habits were, and told me exactly what questions I'd get wrong on my math test!" he had sworn once, and while intriguing, even to this day Mr. Weller was notorious for his difficulty with division, so Frances was quite convinced that anyone who had spent more than a few days with him would've been able to tell him that he'd struggle with those questions. As to exactly how Mirta knew which questions were going to be the ones with division, well, Frances couldn't answer that. However, she was certain there was an explanation, one that we'd likely never know given that this had happened some thirty odd years ago.

Maybe, though, somewhere in the pit of her very being there was a part of Frances that wanted to believe. The idea of having foresight very much comforted the perpetually high strung girl, however given her grandmother and grandfather's deep skepticism of divination Frances would not, under any circumstances, ever actually voice that. Besides, her maternal grandparents were actual wizards, pureblood ones at that, and unlike Andrew they had grown up immersed in magic. If they said divination was a sham, well, Frances would certainly take their word for it over her dad's.

Of course, though, the sight did not care for whether or not those gifted with it believed in it, much in the way one's opinion on the existence of rain doesn't stop it from falling. And it's for this exact reason that Frances found herself, the night before leaving for her Hogwarts classes, in a panic over a creeping gut feeling.

"No, you need to set your clothes out now. Because if you don't you won't be able to find your socks and we're going to run late and Teddy's going to cry and take forever to get in the car and I won't make it to school," Frances said in a seemingly endless stream, nervously scrubbing the dishes from dinner with shaking hands. Pressed for an explanation Frances could not explain why this was so urgent to her, especially considering her father was quite meticulous about his sock collection. The girl was anxious more often than not, sure, but not to such a debilitating extent.

A flash of irritation crossed Andrew's face, and he opened his mouth as if he was going to counter, but he instead took a deep breath. Perhaps he should be grateful his child was so focused on preparedness, many parents wished their children had that same trait. He grumbled in response while he slouched off to gather his clothes for the next day, but was met by the most peculiar sight when he opened his designated sock drawer.

Andrew was painfully efficient, he was too tired from restaurant work most days to not, so he owned exactly three pairs of black socks for work, one grey pair for exercise, and one navy pair for outdoor work, and all five pairs were missing.

He could write off the exercise pair and one of the work pairs, he'd gone to the gym after work and both were in the laundry. Still, that left three unaccounted for pairs. He walked back out of his bedroom, eyebrows pinched in confusion, and worldly paced the hallway, helplessly checking behind the laundry baskets, in the dryer, in the washer, just about everywhere he could think.

Andrew straightened up and turned around to lean against the washing machine, right as little Teddy Weller ran screeching happily down the hall, navy tubes with glued on eyes on each arm.

Andrew closed his eyes and sighed, of course. This is what he got for teaching the young boy how to make sock puppets today, and not providing him with more than a couple old socks his sister had outgrown.

"Hey little man, your dad needs his socks back," Andrew said, peeling the freshly glued on eyes on one of his black socks. "Buddy I promise, tomorrow after we drop your sister off I'll buy you a whole pack of socks to play with. And more glitter!"

The promise of more supplies quieted Teddy's cries just a little, but he was still inconsolable as he watched his dad brutally murder his crafted friends. Meanwhile Frances just stood in the kitchen, soapy water slowly soaking the end of her sleeve that has slide from where it was pushed up while she washed dishes.

Ten minutes, it took ten minutes for her dad to figure out where the socks had gone, and once he finally did Teddy had a monumental meltdown, one that surely would have at least tripled the amount of time it'd take for him to get wrestled into his car seat. If the family had faced this in the morning they'd surely have been late by a considerably measure.

Maybe, just maybe, Frances's dad was onto something about loony old Mirta, but Frances would never verbalize that.

Character Backstory:
Reducio
The Weller family was, by most accounts, fairly underwhelming from the perspective of both muggles and wizardfolk alike. The youngest Wellers, Frances and Teddy, lived with their muggle father, Andrew, in a suburb of Swansea. The only notable thing about Andrew's job as the manager of a small restaurant, most notable for it's quick and consistent lunch fare, was that it certainly didn't pay enough for the three bedroom home the family occupied. This was no issue, though, as humble Mr. Weller's wife, Lina, more than made up the gap.

Lina, who maintained her maiden name Nachtnebel due to the pair never marrying, was quite the opposite of her mate. She was a pureblooded witch, half German and half English, and the largest portion of the year away from home on adventures through various magical ruins across Europe. While the witch made fair money as a magical explorer, the real financier of the family's lifestyle came from her mother, Emma.

Born Emma Bickers, she came from a pureblooded English family of fairly minimal social standing, and similarly minimal financial background. However, she gained a fair bit of attention as a gifted potioness, enough so to secure a quite favorable marriage to the youngest son of a much more illustrious pureblood family in Germany, Gilbert Nachtnebel. Much like Lina and Andrew, the pair were an odd fit. While Emma was quite constrained, with razor focus and a shrewd eye, Gilbert was... fanciful. A trait that was a product of his lifestyle, Emma would say. His place in the world had always been carefully defined and protcted, something he had never had to worry about, and that allowed him to chase things such as pleasure, personal dreams, and most to Emma's chagrin, familial bonding that wasn't based around maximizing efficiency.

Yes, the subject of Frances's existence was a bit of a touchy subject for her grandmother, something that Frances was unfortunately aware of. The circumstances of her birth, being both out of wedlock and fathered by a muggle no less, endlessly grated at Emma. The elder witch viewed this as Lina spitting in the face of the sacrifices she had made in her youth in order to secure their social standing. While Emma was of a mind that Lina should, by all intents and purposes, leave the Wellers behind Gilbert heard nothing of it. He had a very close bond with Frances, and during the long stretches of time that Lina was away he'd step in to guide Frances through a proper witch's upbringing.

All of this has led Frances to have more than a passing desire to exceed, both to earn her grandmother's favor and to show Gilbert his efforts weren't in vain. Ever the serious child, she poured herself into studies even at a young age. The endless manuscripts and field analysis notes about Lina's study were, in many ways, the only way Frances really knew to connect with her, and she spent hours trying to make sense of the sketches of various ancient runes her mom had discovered, and learning everything about they mythical creatures her mom described encountering. She spent so much time chasing these fragments of her mom and the fantastical world she came from, that Frances often ignored the fact that she had an earnest, caring father who was around, but Andrew Weller more than understood the fascination with the magical world. He was just glad that, unlike himself, Frances could actually be part of it.

First Instance of Magic:
Reducio
Two winters ago during a particularly nasty snowstorm Frances had spent the better part of the day crafting a diorama of an old castle her mother had taken her to see, and she was incredibly proud of it. The piece had been left sitting on a short table in the living room while the young girl went off to find a new activity to do, and had become the newest victim of the youngest boy in the house. Young Teddy Weller had developed an odd fixation on chewing on just about anything left in arms reach, and the artfully crafter spires were just the thing he was craving. When Frances returned to see Teddy treating her art project like giant slab of rock candy, breaking pieces of it off to chomp on, she'd gotten so upset that the pieces took on a life of their own and started pelting the boy.

Character Backstory:

Ashlyn is the third of three as well as the youngest of the Morris family; her much older siblings as well as her parents have spoiled her throughout her childhood. Ashlyn, as the daughter of notable Purebloods, has never had to go a day in her life without getting what she wants.
Although she is a polite child, she does not take well to being told no. She has also never had any need to get along with other children her age, as she has always had more followers than friends.
Her parents — Erica and Solomon Morris — are rooted in the old tradition of the Pureblood families, often favoring biases over logic. It is quite obvious that both Erica and Solomon treat muggleborn witches and wizards with disdain, while treating muggles as innocent nuisances. The Morris couple are not too outspoken with their beliefs, however it is clear that they are great believers in blood supremacy, and have undoubtedly attempted to pass on this belief to their children.
However, their values might not have completely been transmitted to Ashlyn’s sister, at the very least, as Lydia Morris — age twenty five — is currently engaged to a muggleborn (Thomas Beular). Lydia is still in contact with both of her siblings, but her relationship with Erica and Solomon remains strained. Lydia and Ashlyn, although fourteen years apart, are close, and will often send letters to each other.
Noah, Ashlyn’s older brother who is nineteen, is currently working as a diplomat in foreign relations to America. He and Ashlyn are not as close, as Lydia is with Ashlyn, but they will still exchange letters. Noah’s personal life is not really well-known to the family, so his opinions on blood supremacy could swing either way.
Both sets of Ashlyn’s grandparents loved her and her siblings to death, as they were their only grandchildren on both sides. While Erica Morris (nee Fresner) was an only child, Solomon Morris was not, but his brother Gideon had been disowned years before Ashlyn was born for being gay.
Erica’s parents — Donna and Nathianel Fresner — lived in the house (it was more of a manor or mansion, really) with the Morris’s, so they would help out with Ashlyn’s education before Hogwarts.
Her education consisted of: basic maths, English, history, and of course pureblood etiquette. She was also taught French. Even though the Fresner grandparents helped with a lot of the subjects, Erica and Solomon still got Ashlyn the best tutors money could possibly buy.
Ashlyn, however, hated all sorts of lessons (especially ones that involved sitting still) and would often sneak outside to play around with the other local magical children of the village who she was the leader of. Climbing trees and, in good weather, playing around in the ocean and on the beach were her favorite pastimes along with reading fantasy novels.
It was these novels that often got her into arguments with her grandparents on her father’s side — Jackson and Lana Morris. While Erica, Solomon and Erica’s parents were content to let Ashlyn read muggle adventure books (they were moderates, after all), Solomon’s parents hated the thought of their cherished granddaughter reading such things.
When they visited, they would often try to take away Ashlyn’s books, cousin her to have a rocky relationship with them.
Ashlyn was, it must be said, incredibly reckless. A daredevil at heart. She loved nothing more than to play around outside all day, ignoring her lessons and causing all sorts of trouble, all while befriending stray cats.
Ashlyn was an extremely sheltered child; her parents didn’t feel the need to inform her of the darker parts of the world outside of St Ives, and she felt no need to learn. That’s why when friends who are significantly different from her (in any way) often surprise her. Especially when it comes to money she is oblivious, not realizing how lucky she is.
It is truly curious why she ended up in Slytherin, as she seems more suited to Gryffindor, but only time will tell...

First Instance of Magic:
Reducio

Ashlyn was a late bloomer, not showing a single sign of magic until the first time she broke her arm when she was seven years old. She'd finally figured out how to read, and had decided to bring her book up to a tree, but miscalculated and ended up falling out. She landed on her arm, causing it to break.

But that was not the magic.

The magic she accidentally performed was that when her brother Noah found her, she was in immense pain with a broken limb, but by the time he'd carried her to their mother, Erica, the limb was nearly all healed.

This type of magic, although hard to perform on yourself on purpose, was Ashlyn's first case of accidental magic.
