The Hufflepuff Table 2018-2019
"Er, well if you like history I highly recommend this book it's pretty good." he answered. "By the way, we haven't seemed to have a proper introduction. Ello mate, you can address me as Miko although I am open to any nicknames but Miko shouldn't be too difficult to call me." Miko stated, not making eye contact with the other boy.
He too had the most of his family as Gryffindors, except for his great uncle Benjamin which graduated as a well-known Ravenclaw and his cousin who is in Slytherin somehow but nobody really speaks of him since he's a Slytherin. At last he had found someone who was a bit similar to himself, that was a plus side.
The boy looked at Arran up and down and thought, Finally I'm taller than someone, that's a plus side to socializing I guess.. It was true he was taller than him but that didn't matter much it just interested Miko since normally other boys were as tall as him or a bit taller. He felt like someone was watching him so he looked around and saw a girl sitting at the Slytherin table staring at him. Miko looked a bit blankly at her then turned back to Arran awkwardly.

Arran stopped mid-chew to glance at the book and then shook his head solemnly. "I particularly hate anything to do with history. I would never repeat any of the dumb things people have done way back in Merlin-times." He drank from his goblet with his pinky out and smacked his lips loudly.
"I'm Arran, but you can call me Arran, whichever suits you better." He noticed that Miko was taller than him but it didn't bother him really, it was just a strange sight; most eleven year olds like him were shorter but everyone grew at different heights at different ages.
"I prefer pretty much anything else over learning about the past. I want to learn about that beasts class, and maybe how to duel. Oh, and I'm definitely going to try out for Qudditch. Being up in the sky hurling balls is my true calling." Arran noticed that Miko was looking at something, or someone, that wasn't at their table. Glancing over, he noticed a Slytherin girl staring right at the Hufflepuff.
"Hm, I see you've caught a pretty eye in this room," chuckled Arran, watching the girl watch Miko in amusement. He placed a hand on his shoulder and grinned, seeing his discomfort. "Why don't you go say hullo to her? Who knows...or would you rather I go do it?"

The Hufflepuff Table 2018-2019
Approaching the table, David nervously sat down in a vacant seat nearby the the two boys. The noise in the hall was deafening compared to the normal school cafeteria's he was used to. It seemed like there were thousands of students packed into the Great Hall, which ghosts flitting about through the tables as he watched, still scarcely able to believe that what he was seeing was real.
Scanning the table, he considered the position he was in. He didn't know much about the four houses. His mother had been in Ravenclaw and she had said that he would probably be put into Ravenclaw as well. As he understood, Ravenclaw was a house centered around being perceived as smarter than the other 3 houses, something he wasn't really comfortable labeling himself as. Doing some homework and reading some books doesn't make someone smarter it just means their reliable.
Hufflepuff was apparently the hard working house, which he guessed fit him better. He did his best in school to make sure everything was done and done well. He also didn't really want any kind of reputation that the other three houses seemed to be known for. He just wanted to survive his time at Hogwarts without blowing himself up mid-spell.
He fumbled around in his belongings before producing his own copy of Hogwarts: A History. It was the most detailed guide to what each of the houses were like, even if he didn't really get a lot of the words and terms they used. The book had clearly been written with the idea that the reader would be more familiar with the magical world than David was himself.
While turning to the page describing Helga Hufflepuff and the house she founded, he peeked over at what the other two boys were doing. It appeared like they were gesturing about a girl at another table and he guessed it was like the schoolyard crushes he saw on the playground. Liking someone like that seemed like the lowest possible concern for him, but he assumed that kids that had grown up around magic probably weren't losing their minds like he felt he was.

Evie sat down at the long table. She had seen some newcomers already, and she was excited to meet them. She looked around, noticing at least one or two new badgers. While scanning the table for her favorite foods, she came across a lovely dish of mashed potatoes. While digging in, she noticed a boy fairly close to where she was sitting. "Uhh hi? Are you going to eat, or are you going to dig in to the lovely food provided by the kitchen elves?"Reducio(David Moore)
Evie said cheerfully, as she noticed he was reading.
Ugh, people need to realized that food is amazing. Evelyn looked around again, the room was full of hungry students. Evie looked at her mashed potatoes, and started to scoop them up. Looking again at the new badger, Evelyn decided to speak again, "What's your name, mine's Evelyn, but my friends call me Evie. I am so glad you joined us in Hufflepuff!" Evie liked newcomers, because they didn't know her, it was like starting with a clean record. Not that Evie had done anything wrong.
No, the only thing she had gotten called out for was being too friendly. I mean, what does that mean? Too nice? You can't be too nice, you can be too mean, though. I guess she is just too outgoing for the liking of some. Ahh well, you can't have everyone like you, as Evie had recently learned. Looking around the hall again, Evie stared at the surrounding tables. What would of happened if she was sorted into another house, she would never know. But she did know this; she was happy in Hufflepuff, and honestly, it suits her. I mean, you can't really have someone thats this happy in Slytherin. Yeah, Hufflepuff was made for Evie, or rather, Evie was made for Hufflepuff.

David peeked at the boys for a few more seconds before he heard a nearby voice and was snapped out of his trance. He looked over and caught Evie as she finished her sentence.
"Dig in? Oh, uh. Yeah. Of course," David said. He looked over at the seemingly infinite number of options before him. Truth be told, he was pretty apprehensive. The food had kind of just appeared there in front of them with no explanation. "Wait? House Elves?" He muttered aloud. His eyes darted back and forth. House Elves were a type of magical creature that Hogwarts had in the castle. So they were in charge of cooking? Could House Elves cook? For People? The food looked pretty normal.
He closed his book and set it beside him, not wanting to stain it while eating. He reached forward towards a succulent slice ham and added some to his plate. Looking around, he added some roasted carrots and mashed potatoes of his own before pulling the plate close to him. It smelled pretty normal and there wasn't anything that looked wrong about it. Taking his fork and knife, he cut into his slice of ham, watching as some of the juices were squeezed out under the pressure. He speared the piece and raised it to his mouth, taking a careful bite.
It was actually pretty good. Great even. It had been cooked to absolute perfection. Even his mother's ham wasn't this good, and she had probably also used magic to make it. He looed back over at the girl that had sat near him when she had started speaking to him.
"Oh, I'm David. David Moore. But it's just David, no nickname or anything," That wasn't quite true. His mother would call him Davey, a nickname he wasn't really a fan of, but she only said it around the family so he was willing to put up with it at the time. "It's nice to meet you. Have you been a Hufflepuff for very long? I'm not really sure what the big reason is I ended up here any not in one of the other houses." He turned back to his food and began eating again while awaiting her response, his heart racing from the anxiety.

"Wait? House Elves?" The boy muttered. Evie turned her attention to him. "Yes! The House Elves cook the food here at Hogwarts. It's delicious! It was a surprise to me too, especially since I am mu-" Eve's voice trailed off as she looked around to see who was possibly eavesdropping. "Since I am muggle-born," Evie finished with a sigh. "This food is amazing! Its better than any meal I have ever had!" Evelyn's heart sank as she thought of home. "Well almost any meal," She muttered, while looking down at her lap. She missed home, and the delicious meals that came with it. But most of all, she missed her family.
Sure, Hogwarts was great. Evie just wished everyone here wasn't so hoity-toity about everything. Especially if you were a Pure-blood. Eve had seen some people bullying other students about that. Evie didn't get it, I mean, if you were a Muggle-born, you were still allowed to learn magic, right? Eve stopped thinking about that subject in just enough time to observe the room. Many students were chewing with their mouths open, resting their elbows against the table, and most of all, many students seemed to let food fall out of their mouths. Evie shuddered. Ah, that was a waste of food. Many people would love to have the tiniest morsel of food. Maybe the kind of people that had bad manners came from poor homes, or didn't have any parents. Eve didn't like to think of it.
However, this boy seemed to have some manners. Finally, someone who had them. Aye, its true that young children are typically messy. But Eve's mother had taught her manners, and it had become a pet peeve of Evie's when people had used bad manners. Alas, her father told her everyone makes mistakes, and Eve should ignore it. She turned back to those mashed potatoes. Those creamy, delicious mashed potatoes...
"Oh, I'm David. David Moore. But it's just David, no nickname or anything," Evelyn snapped out of her potato obsession when David spoke up. "Hi David!" Eve said happily. She looked down again at the mashed potatoes. Evelyn piled some steak onto her plate as well. Well, the outlook was good. Evie hadn't made any friends yet at Hogwarts. It seemed she would finally not walk to classes alone and what not. At first, Eve had been shy, she had been a bit apprehensive at her fellow students. But, Evie had to just ignore the fact that, not everyone would want to be friends, and just accept that she had to try to start a friendship.
As her dad had said, "You can't make friends without being friendly," Eve tried to keep her dad's words in her mind while at Hogwarts. Sometimes it seemed hard to trust someone you just met. But Evelyn had learned that to get to know someone you have to trust them. When Evie was shy at Hogwarts, it was not the norm. At home, Eve was the most outgoing person in the family. At least, thats what her mom said. Evelyn had loved helping her dad out in his shop, and she loved to talk to customers. Evie tried to start a conversation again, "Soo, David, where are you from?" Eve tried to lighten the mood, she could tell David was a bit nervous.
Evelyn pushed her mashed potatoes (sadly) a bit away from her, and pulled out her Herbology book. They were studying many interesting Magical plants, and it was probably her favorite subject. Charms was fun too, though. Eve was interested in the many topics they taught at Hogwarts, and she couldn't wait to learn all of them. Evelyn thought it was weird that Hufflepuffs were characterized by being dim-witted. Just because of that stereotype, Eve had vowed to work hard.
The teachers at Hogwarts were nice, but Evelyn wasn't sure she was a huge fan of the amount of homework they give. Sure, it was fun and cozy to do homework by the fire in the Hufflepuff common room, but Eve just wasn't a big fan of homework, even if she new it was to make sure that the students knew the subject. Evelyn turned her attention back to David.
Maybe they could be friends. He seemed nice. Evie looked back at him, and smiled. "I am so glad you are here, I have sorta been looking for a friend, would you want to be friends?" Eve took a deep breath, and waited for a response.
She turned back to her book. Wow, that was easier than she thought. All she had to do, was wait for a response. She really wanted a friend, it would be more fun to tackle homework with someone else, and she couldn't wait to make a friend. The homework part sounded fun, but she wasn't a huge fan of homework.

Asha couldn't help but overhear their conversation. She'd been sitting across from the boy and girl, the one's named Evelyn and David, but she had been talking with a girl next to her. But as their conversation died she happened to listen to them both and wanted to join in on what they were talking about, especially since it concerned who made their food. Asha saw the girl pull out a book about caring for magical creatures, which happened to be her own favorite book to look at─mainly because the pictures were so interesting─and figured she could ask about that.
"Hi," she said, greeting them both in her high voice. Gesturing at the girl's book, she asked, "What're you guy's favorite magical beasts? I like the phoenix, it's just a really powerful bird, and they're so beautiful with bright red colors." There were other reasons why she liked the fiery birds but she felt like explaining would be too much for a first conversation. Besides, she wanted to hear more about her fellow Hufflepuffs. ""Did you guys think you'd get into Hufflepuff? I read a little about each House here at Hogwarts and I think that I'd be okay in any one of them, I heard that it's really all about what you value which determines which you get into but I think that intelligence, ambition, bravery, and loyalty are all very important to me..."
Realizing that she might be talking too much, Asha grinned and shrugged. "But I really like my house, yellow is a really happy color and I would want anyone to be happy when they look at what I represent."

The Hufflepuff Table 2018-2019
David was slightly taken aback by the other girl's confession. This was the first other muggle-born student he had met that was muggle-born. He assumed it was uncommon; that magical ability manifesting in someone with no magical ancestry was highly rare. Everyone he had met so far seemed to be at least 'half-blood', as they called it. Even though he was half-blood himself, David immediately felt a connection to Evie. Both of them were probably still acclimating to the environment they found themselves in, although Evie seemed to be doing a lot better.
"That's ok if you're muggle-born," David hurridly said. Wait, would that mean there's a problem with it? "I mean, my mom was a witch, but both of my parents hid that from me until a few months ago! So I'm still getting used to everything to. When I first saw this, I thought there were just spells that made food appear from nowhere, but it's reassuring to know that it's not as crazy as that." The fact that the food had been deliberately cooked before added a sense of normalcy to the meal for David.Instead of being some weird magical imitation, the magic used to make it appear was probably related to some kind of invisibility spell. It could even be some kind of teleportation magic, if he considered it long enough.
David turned back to his meal, taking several bites of the mashed potatoes and similarly enjoying that perfect creaminess of the dish. The House Elves clearly knew what they were doing. He was about to tackle the roasted carrots, broth still rolling off their surface when Evie suddenly asked where he was from. "London!" He said a bit too suddenly. "I was born an raised in London. It was mind-boggling when mom just started showing me all the secret magical things I had never noticed before around the city. It was hard to believe I was still in the city once she took me and dad to Diagon Alley."
He had been about to turn back to his food when he noticed she had pulled out a textbook. It looked like one of their class textbooks but from his angle and with the lighting he didn't quite see the title. Was she a fellow reader? That was a good sign. It was yet another thing they had in common. He was about to ask about it when she suddenly asked if he wanted to be friends with her. His face flushed slightly as he paused for a moment before answering, slightly stunned.
"Sure, I'd love to be friends, Evie," He said. Just as he was about to say something else, a new voice entered the conversation.
The new girl had a new kind of energy all her own. Whereas David had though Evie was pretty outgoing, This new girl was almost forceful with what seemed to David was an infinite amount of positive energy. David almost hadn't realized that she had opened up with a question and blurted out his response before she might think he was ignoring it.
"Uh, Dragons!" David said suddenly, then realizing that there were many types of dragons. "Just like, the Common Welsh ones in particular." He blushed again. He thought that it was kind of a basic answer. Dragons are cool. Obviously. He had read up about Phoenixes and was actually pretty happy that the 'fiction' books he had read in normal school had been pretty accurate with a lot fo the creatures mentioned in the book. The general gist of each creature and what it's characteristics and skills were were often spot on, even if they missed a lot of the nitty-gritty details mentioned in the textbook.
"I didn't really know much about the houses before I came here, so I wasn't sure what to expect. My mom said I was smart enough to be in Ravenclaw, but I wasn't so sure. I'm not sure why I was put into Hufflepuff, though. I think all that stuff they say about the other Houses is cool, too. But I'm not very ambitious. I don't even know what I want to do yet."
He looked around the table, focusing again on the yellow banner, the yellow lining of his table's robes, and the golden decorations near and on the table. "I'm not against Yellow either, but I think I'm more of a 'green' person."

Miko was listening to the conversation and just had to butt in. "Woah! You like dragons? One of my dad's own a dragon center actually, it's kind of like a vet and care center really. The other just works in Quidditch as a seeker." he just kept piling on information. The boy guessed he should not talk too much since it still wasn't his conversation but he had to introduce himself because why not? "I am Miko Limof or Sir Limof back where I live, the sir part makes me feel in charge but Miko is cool as well." he quickly said.
He hoped he wasn't coming off as rude or anything but then he talked about houses. "Well Hufflepuff is also a symbol of hard workers so I guess that's it. Both my fathers were Gryffindors so that's what I thought I'd be.", Jeez, does he ever stop talking?! is what his conscious what saying which was unnerving but Miko pushed the thoughts away and just thought he was trying to make friends. He pulled out his wand and favorite book and muttered "Lumos." so he could read more clearly and began to scan the page on Dragons for a bit.

Eve grinned, she had a friend. It had taken her a while, but she was happy. Evie nodded as David said he was more of a 'green' person. Evie wasn't exactly a yellow person, but she liked it, it was happy. Honestly, Evelyn preferred blue. But yellow suited her. She smiled as Asha joined in, and posed a question. "Hmm, I would say my favorite magical creature is a niffler, they are just so cute!" Eve turned happily back to her book.
Evelyn was just about to get dessert when another boy join in the conversation, and smiled as more people started talking. Finally more people had joined in on the conversation. She smiled at Miko, "I am Evelyn, or Evie, or Eve, any of those names will work. That's so cool! Dragons are amazing creatures." Eve turned back to her book, she didn't really need to study, she had already put in many hours of work, but she enjoyed to open a book or two at dinner.
Evelyn turned to Asha again, "I am so glad you guys are all in Hufflepuff, it will be great to have friends!" Eve turned back to her book, she was happy she had been sorted into Hufflepuff, because now she would have friends. Eve was pretty sure that if she hadn't been sorted into Hufflepuff, she would of had a harder time.
