The look of concern on Burnett's face should have been expected, and yet Flash had let the words go carelessly. The tense atmosphere he had ushered in would nonetheless be interrupted by the end of the game, with Flash not needing to step in after all. He looked out at the field crestfallen, having hoped to at least still held on to the belief that Slytherin could have still earned themselves an undefeated year. True or not, he could have dreamt it was real, but even that was too much to be afforded to him. However, he was too accustomed to disappointment for it to hurt his battered heart.

"I'm sorry." Flash continued, this time with sincerity in his voice. "I've said something strange. I just need more sleep."

As usual, Flash would minimize the devestation he was feeling in the moment, sure in the thought that it was normal. As many before and many to follow, he was a leaf caught in a tide pool, whose dreams to escape had depended on a miracle, not his own strength. Before Burnett could get another word of protest in, he would stand and leave to the locker rooms to change.
