Hogwarts Summer Camp Chess Combat, Game 1

ROUND 9

Damion was still burning but he was happy that his spell had hit the target. He wanted to help his team win this game. he didn't want to be in the losing team. he was happy to be here. A smile appeared on his face as he saw the Rook of the opponent faint. Theodore and Thomas had finally managed to hit Mars. He was happy that there was one less person to target now.

Chaos was beginning to reign supreme. Spells continued to fly all around her, the air abuzz with the raw, barely controlled, magical energies of budding budding wix, wizards and witches. As the rounds drew ever nearer to their conclusion, the veracity with which they were slung only seemed to increase. For some, this would strike a cord, ignite the passion of the impending end to paint a conclusion one way or another with gloriously bold strokes. The thrill of battle and the tension of an end drawing near serving to draw forth the bloodlust of the warriors.

Such may have been expected especially of the Black Team. They had held a tremulous lead since the start, seemingly a slight step ahead of the competitors, and better able to dodge assault than the army of white were able to land them. A precarious dance, one that would often leave much to be questioned. With that lead, however, came the pressure to hold it. A mounting weight upon the shoulders that could serve to bow even the tallest and strongest. Sweat glistened on the brow of the petite Durmstrang girl before being hastily wiped away on the cuff of her sleeve.

Sometimes, the leading team would manage to slowly wear down the resolve of their competitors, chipping away at the will to fight until little but an empty shell of half-hearted movements remained. Other times, the fight carried on per usual, a battle of bloody tooth and nail from start to end. And on the rare occasion, something would occur to spark the innate drive and passion for one last burst of overwhelming energy. The survivor's fury could be a powerfully intimidating force. What was worse... everybody loved the story of the underdog. The thrill of being able to see a miraculous recovery by the team who had been put on the defensive was always a fantastic story.

It was the soft thud that seemed to set it all off. Greta spun her attention around to see a form fall to the ground. For a moment, she'd had the gut-wrenching feeling that it had been one of their own, the boy who had appeared a little worse for wear for more than a little while. But instead it turned out to be the one who had been dancing a ballet moments before. For a brief period, a sense of victory washed over the blonde. Finally, they had made a visible impact! They had a clear advantage now with numbers! A small one, but one none-the-less.

That was before she turned back to sweep her gaze across the enemy team. Where she might have expected to see down-trodden expressions and the faces of those who knew they were on their last legs, instead she saw a hunger. A yearning for revenge. A thirst for victory. A steeled resolve to take that loss and turn it ten-fold onto those who'd had the gall to fell one of their own. Dealt with a heavy sense of doom, Greta's stomach flipped, eyes widening slightly as the Rook across from her raised her wand to cast. She'd barely managed to raise her own wand up in time, intending to exchange a spell for a spell.

"F-flippng—" she stammered, trying to force the spell out. But in that unsettling revelation that the game was only now just beginning, her mouth had parched, cutting off her incantation. The tip of her wand did little more than sputter as though mocking her lapse in composure. "Eep~!" she ducked, nimbly avoiding the shot that had been slung at her.

Focus! A glance to the crowd allowed her to catch sight of at least a few familiar faces, mostly those awaiting their own games. But it was enough to remind her why she was here — to represent her school and demonstrate the power of Durmstrang. Pushing herself back to her feet, she swiped her sleeve once more across her brow before wiping her hands on her skirts. They weren't the only ones whose resolve could be hardened by the heat of battle. With an adjustment of the wand's grip and the pinching of her brows, she took a calming breath and waited for the next chance to do her part to aide her team getting one step closer to victory.

By now Theodore was mearly dragging himself across the field. He even had difficulties to remember spells. Spells were casted around him, he couldn't define them anymore. For a momen he crouched down and put one hand on the ground to keep his balance. Theodore felt terrible, this was not funny anymore. Was there no one who could help him out? Slowly breathing in, he got back up. He would not give up yet.

Adonis didn't know how to explain why he didn't move even one bit. He was never one to stop in the middle of a fight and let it come full force at him, but yet he somehow allowed himself to today. No matter the case, Don would make sure to exact his revenge. A hardened look suddenly made itself known on Adonis' face as rage began to fill up inside of him. He would most definitely make sure to do his best to get back at the Durmstrang boy.

Has anybody seen the unamused dog meme? That was Jack's face right at this moment in time as he danced around like a lunatic. Unadulterated hatred radiated from the boy, and the subject of his ire? Damion. He didn't know the kid to begin with, but there was such a passionate rage building up. Murder was on his mind, and there would be yellow tape around the body if Jack had it his way. "You are dead to me." Was all the boy had to say, while he transferred away from the Russian folk dancing to more contemporary ballet. Of course, he would switch to it once he thought about it, considering it was the form of dance he had training in. Damn this dancing all to hell.

Whatever happened — it was not good. Whatever happened — it was not expected. Sometimes duels went not as the moderators would like it to end. That was probably the case in their duel. The first game to end hastily, just one round before the actual end.

There are spells that can hurt, there are spells that can make you laugh, and there are spells that make you sick. It was known how long it takes for Curse of the Bogies to progress until a decent faint, but it seemed the effect was, indeed, individual. Theodore of the Team Black fainted and fell down on the ground. Artemis looked at the clock and rushed towards the boy:

"Stop the duel!" he shouted, which wasn't his usual manner of addressing. He cut his way towards the boy and checked his state, then continued, "Okay, I have to stop the duel right now. Consider it a draw. You all fought nicely," he looked at both Hogwarts and Durmstrang students, "Your teachers may be proud of you. But now, shake your hands and you're dismissed."

He was serious and caring at the same time. He took the boy with his both arms and made his way towards the mobile medical station, prepared especially for the cases like that.

The game has ended in a draw in agreement with both teams. The consent to use Theodore's condition as an end reason was granted. Good job, everyone, and thank you for participating!

Theo was standing. Barely. His legs were shaking, and so were his hands. He had to fight. He... he had to... His thoughts were spinning in circles. Theo's grip on his wand got tighter, his eyes found a boy from the opponent team. Yes. He would go to... was it A3? And then... then... Theo only made one step forward and then collapsed. If he wasn't unconscious while falling, he certainly was when he met the ground.
He had failed his team...

Santario started taking her steps to C2, expecting to have to try to out strength Thomas for the square since statistically, that would have been his best advantage point for the rest of the game, but she stopped short. Her eyes fell to Theo, he really… Did not look well at all. Was he sick before the game? She watched him try to step forward before he collapsed, and as he hit the ground, she gasped.

Typically it wasn’t in her nature to care about someone she didn’t know let alone an opponent in a duel, but her mother had been a Head Healer at Saint Mungo’s Hospital, and Santario had studied spells like this with far more intensity than her peers given that she planned on somewhat following her mother’s footsteps. Theo had gone down far too early. She stood there watching on as Professor Vernatis rushed towards the downed boy and called for a Draw.

Pain inflicted was very different when you didn’t mean to do it, and that’s where it mattered to her. She hadn’t meant for him to be harmed like this, at least not this early, so it bothered her. The only pain she was okay with inflicting was when she meant to cause harm to someone. She looked around at her team, at the other team, before finally extending her hand to Thomas. “I hope he’s okay soon, truly. Good game.”

Damion could see his team member fall down on the ground. he felt bad. The game had been a draw. well it was a good game none the less. He wished that they had won but oh well. He thought. He looked at his team mate being carried away to the medical station. He sighed softly and just left the place.
