Character Backstory: Keegan was born on a crisp and foggy, late October morning to two young parents, seventeen year old Lev Cadwalader, a dirt-poor muggle and the 16 year old rebellious Devi Jameela Shamal who was from a well off pure-blood family. The young family despite not having a lot of money, cared for each other a lot. Lev had ran away from his abusive father, and Devi was kicked out for having a half-blood son, disgracing her family name according to her pure-blood grandmother. They settled down in Ruthin, Wales a small market town in the north, where one of Lev's uncles lived. It seemed that there was a promise of normalcy. Keegan grew up to be quite a loud and healthy 5 year old, often going off exploring and hell-bent into getting in trouble, well as much trouble as a 5 year old could get in, but it amused Lev and Devi rather than angered them. When Keegan was 6, Devi's grandmother came over and his Mum and Great-grandmother got in an argument and Devi was never seen again. Lev was now terrified that Keegan would get taken too, so he took him and ran off, never staying in one place for long. His dad is a musician and plays in small venues and pubs to make money. This isn't a very lucrative job however for a young boy and 23 year old man and Keegan and his Dad relied on the kindness of strangers, or more frequently, Lev's less than ethical or moral ways of getting money.

First Instance of Magic: During a gig, Keegan was out in the alleyway running an errand for Lev, a strange drunken man tried to hurt Keegan. He was 8 almost 9 at the time and he sent the man flying across the alleyway almost killing the man. Lev didn't know what was taking Keegan so long, it was just supposed to be a quick errand, taking something outside, Lev got worried and quickly rushed out seeing Keegan, who was backed up against the wall shaking and terrified. Keegan doesn’t trust magic after that, afraid he will hurt others if he uses it, even if what he did was out of self-defense. Because he knows what it's like to be hurt, and tries his best not to hurt anyone else. However the boy still has nightmares about it.

- Please make sure the backstory you've put in this post is included somewhere (anywhere but your trunk) in your encyclopedia. I would recommend replacing the 'background' section there with what you have here.

Daphne had many cases throughout her life that were hard to pass off as coincidence. She'd twist her body a certain way to avoid a serious injury, she knew things about her family who'd passed that other people didn't. But she always just considered herself as having good intuition. Surely it wasn't any more than that, she figured.

In Daphne's mind, she started getting what Muggles would call "prophetic dreams", an event showing up in her dreams that then happen exactly the same in the future.

One day, it was too specific to be a coincidence. She'd dreamed a bruise on her sister's arm that her sister got exactly the next day. Same shape, same color, same location. And her sister didn't even get it until *after* the dream, she'd fallen off her bed in the morning and hit the metal railing. She finally went to her grandmother, Vivian, explaining to her what happened, who then sat Daphne down for a talk.

--

Daphne sat down on one of the old couches near her grandmother's armchair, adjusting her clothes before folding her hands in her lap. She was wary of the conversation they were about to have, half-expecting Vivian to just blow her dreams off like they were delusional and coincidence, not sit her down for a conversation.

Vivian gathers her thoughts for a moment, the gears shifting in her mind as she tries to find the proper wording to break this news to Daphne. She still remembered the day she was told she was a seer, and she'd monitored each one of her 5 children to see if they'd carry it on. Not one, not even Daphne's mother, Vivian's youngest child, got it. But somehow Daphne did. It wasn't unheard of to skip generations, but Vivian just wasn't expecting it.

Vivian finally started to speak.

"You're aware of your magical lineage, correct?"

Daphne simply nods. She was raised on the concept and had already experienced her own first bout of magic, along with seeing all of her many older sisters perform.

Vivian again chooses her words carefully. "Sometimes, witches and wizards are given powers. For what reason exactly we do not know, we only know that it is fact."

Daphne's brows furrow the slightest bit in caution and confusion, unsure of where this conversation was leading.

Vivian continues. "Sometimes one of those gifts makes someone what we call a Seer. They have the gift of prophecy, depending on who you ask."

Vivian inhales, sitting up straight. She was always on herself about being a proper woman, about looking perfect even around her close family. She was a role model, after all.

Daphne's eyes flicker with a hint of both understanding and shock at the implications under her grandmother's words.

She stammers for a moment before finding her voice. "...You aren't saying-?"

Vivian just nods.

((ooc: 'you're a seer daphne!'/j/ref))

Daphne's eyes widen as she takes this new information in. She had the power of prophecy. Her mind immediately starts to race, her brain may as well have been a hive of bees.

Before Hogwarts:
--
Daphne was a quiet child.

She didn't like expressing much, generally having either an unfeeling expression or a stern one. Her family found it endearing for the first few years, deeming her a grumpy baby until she became older and it started to be seen as disrespect.

Daphne started to adopt a seemingly exuberant, bright personality; always smiling, always laughing, and full of energy. Nobody knew it was a sham, an act. She's never known what it's like to genuinely smile, but that doesn't mean she's unfeeling. No, on the contrary, she felt almost too much. Her feelings bubbled up in her chest and gripped at her senses, but her brain just didn't send signals to express it as most people would through facial expressions. So she constantly forced it to be socially acceptable.

Her mother died when she was around 4 years old due to a cursed blood malediction, and upon her father's emotional distress, her grandmother chose to take her in and care for her at the age of 8. Her father stayed in touch, still caring for her, still providing funds for her, but he figured it was the right action. He was in no place to raise a child.

Daphne has 7 older sisters, but she has a fairly wide age gap from most of them, so she sees them more as aunts. When they lived with her before she moved in with her grandma, they'd take care of her, doing her hair, making her outfits, and teaching her to cook for herself.

One of her sisters in particular, Rose, the third born, took on a motherly approach toward Daphne. When she was still a baby and her mother was sick, Rose would play with her, feed her, and walk her around when she was old enough. Daphne even called her 'Mom' when she was too young to understand what was going on. Due to this, Daphne and Rose still share a close relationship, a maternal bond.

Daphne's grandmother, Vivian, was a renowned Ravenclaw. In her early 80s as of today, she attended Hogwarts when it had a very different atmosphere. She had a bit of a rebellious streak in her teenage years but was now a refined woman, focused on perfection and etiquette.

She raised Daphne with somewhat strict expectations, believing it necessary due to the lack of attention Daphne's skills received as a young child.

Daphne was raised in Vivian's house doing chores, making her own food since she had a distaste for most dishes, exercising, and learning etiquette, table manners, piano, and singing.

Daphne was relieved when she received the letter from Hogwarts; her living situation was suffocating her. Vivian, while genuinely caring for her granddaughter, had numerous harsh and outdated forms of discipline, sometimes projecting her own issues onto Daphne.

Her first experience with magic happened when she was 5 years old: she was angry with her older sister, Julietta, when a pot of ink suddenly splattered on the nearby walls.

Julie had asked her to clean up a mess that their other sisters had made and she deemed it unfair, resulting in the anger at her argument being ignored.

Julie was in denial about the act at first, momentarily telling herself that she was overreacting and it wasn't an event as significant as Daphne's first instance of magic. The older sister later told their father who was elated at the news.

Edward is an only child from a pureblood Wizarding family (albeit not one of the "Sacred Twenty-Eight"). He has an overprotective mother (who attended Hogwarts as a Ravenclaw and who may or may not be a Seer whose glimpses into possible futures have led her to become afraid of harm or disaster befalling her family), father proud but amicable (attended Hogwarts as a Slytherin, and is now involved in Wizarding politics). Due to an overprotective mother, the only other children his age he really spent time with were his cousins and they aren’t very close. Close with his paternal grandmother (who attended Hogwarts as a Hufflepuff and today is considered eccentric by most) who lives in a rural dower house out in the Kent countryside. His late grandfather also attended Hogwarts as a Gryffindor and was a tri-star athlete (quidditch, broom racing, and dueling) who later went on to coach professionally.

Growing up as an only child, he spent most of his time around the adults in his life, listening intently and taking in the wisdom taught to him by his grandparents (grandfather before he passed away, and grandmother still to this day). He would spend time with his grandmother in her garden, she would work while teaching him little bits of herbology lore or share fantastic stories of magical creatures (especially that time they found an infestation of gnomes in the garden). His grandfather would tell him stories of his own childhood - his great grandparents had both been Slytherin and as adults, of the opinion which was a more common in their day, that children were meant to be neither seen nor heard - so that benign neglect left his grandfather on his own most of the time growing up, quite the opposite of his own overprotective mother. His grandfather therefore shared stories of his own adventures escaping into the grounds of their estate and the woods beyond which learning all sorts of practical knowledge to share, or other times giving him some insights into the nature of bullies and how to deal with them by being the better person: fighting if he must defend himself, but only honorably, and sharing other wisdom gathered from over the course of his life as an athlete and coach.

Additionally, with an overprotective mother, Edward spent most of his time indoors, reading, which he actually enjoyed, though the adventure stories he read made him long to be able to one day do similar things himself, though to do so he knows that he needs to study hard to face the challenges that lie ahead.

As he was from a Wizarding family, while he was forbidden from actually practicing magic while he was underage, he could certainly read about it and study up on his own - what if he didn't get into Hogwarts!? Quelle horreur! (He doesn't actually speak French, but he picked up some phrases from his mother - who isn't French either - but did introduce them into her own vocabulary as she hoped they seemed to make her more interesting).

And so with that he devoured as much of the family's library as he could, even attempting to tackle books beyond him to challenge himself, and perhaps one day having been at least relatively familiar with it, might come more easily to him when he is ready to learn it properly.

First Instance of Magic:
Reducio

One day, not long after his 7th birthday, he was stuck inside due to the rain by his mother's orders, he was alone in his room, bored; suddenly, his toys began to move on their own, which startled him so much he ran and told his parents, his father immediately realized what happened, but his mother scolded him for making up stories, at first not believing it was his magical awakening, as she hadn't had hers until she was older herself, but as she had some gift in divination she was able to discern that he was telling the truth and warned him to be more careful with uncontrolled magic due to its dangerous nature, and from then on kept an even closer eye on him for fear of magical mishaps.

Hi Edward, remember that the history section of your app should be 220 words - that's not including the First Instance of Magic. Could you provide more detail to your backstory, and edit it in both here and in your trunk? You also mention that he was friends with a muggle in primary school. Since he's a pureblood, what led to him being enrolled in a muggle primary school?

Ellen lives on a farm with her grandpa, grandma, mother, father, her 3 younger sisters and younger brother. Her parents and grandma are all wizards, her father works at the ministry whilst her mother and grandparents take care of the farm and the children.

Ellens Grandfather is a squib and whilst her family line isnt a particularly strict pureblood family it was difficult for him. To insure that his children and childrens, children wouldnt feel left out or under appreciated the way he did he began teaching his daughter not only about the wizarding world but also about the muggle world. this is why ellen and her siblings were eventually homeschooled by her mother in the basics of muggle school like math and muggle history but also in the basics of wizarding school, so that they can be well prepared for both possibilities.

Though hectic, Ellen lived a very happy and comfortable life on her families farm. She was well taken care of and raised to respect herself and her peers no matter what they might look like or how they might act. It is because of her great ubringing that she is the confident girl she is today. Perhaps you could even say that she is a little spoiled, but i dont think thats the right word for it. More so taught to be confident in her own believes and feelings over a superior just because he is the leader. Word count: 240

Ellens first instance of magic was when she 5. She was put in time out by her mother and frankly she believed it was very unfair. She sat on her chair refusing to apologize for what she had done. Her mother pushed for an apology But Ellen gave none, she pushed and pushed and Ellen grew even more distant and enraged until the glass cabinet burst open and glass splinters flew across the room. Remarkably only her mother was slightly harmed whilst Ellen had been the one closest to the cabinet

Valencia lives a humble home life with her mother, step-father, and step-sister. Prior to Hogwarts, she attended a large public school where she made many friends and excelled academically. Her step-sister, on the other hand, wasn't as academically gifted as Valencia, leading to the start of her jealousy. Her sister can't perform magic since she has no lineage to any wizarding/witch blood, causing a divide between them. Valencia grew up as a muggle, even after she experienced magic for the first time, her mother explained why she wasn't allowed to use it yet, so she grew up as a muggle. Despite this, ever since her first instance with magic, Valencia has always been proud to know she could perform magic- even if she wasn't allowed to try it outside of Hogwarts- but even so, it could never be focused upon in her household due to the jealousy of her sister. Nonetheless, they still get along well- or at least as much as they can. Before Hogwarts, Valencia always found herself drawn to people's kind behavior, always striving to do the same as they do without losing her way or being walked upon. Valencia has big dreams to become a well-known witch who can help others succeed in their own goals, and nothing will stand in the way of this. If by some chance there's a challenge to her path, she is determined to overcome it using any means possible as long as she stays true to herself and those around her. No challenge is too big for Valencia, this is why she was sorted into Slytherin afterall- because of her ambition. Since coming to Hogwarts, she has only just begun her first year and was sorted into Slytherin, which was quite unexpected because her mother was a Gryffindor when she came here. Even so, Valencia is determined to make this her best year, and to treasure the memories and adventures she partakes in. (w0rd count: 312)

First Instance of Magic:

Valencia first experienced magic at the age of 9 when she was at the zoo with her family. Her parents and sister accidentally left her behind because of the large crowd, causing valencia to fall into one of the empty animal areas. Valencia screamed as she plumeted 40 feet, bracing herself for impact, and filled with fear, but when she hit the ground, she hit softly and stood up with no injuries. Confused, she stood and looked down at herslef, examing and checking for injuries, finding none, she smiled, not understanding what happened. Her mom came back a few seconds later, looking for her. When her mom saw where she was, her mom screamed for her dad and they celebrated together. Her mom later pieced the situation together and explained what happened to Valencia. Her mom is the witch in the family. (word count: 136)

"Don't you dare do that! Can you imagine what people would say if they saw this? Stop it Anna!"
This was the routine scolding Anna got when she changed her hair color. Not by dyeing it, but by just feeling a strong emotion and the color of her hair would change by itself. Her parents scolded her most severely when she did this. They did it more in fear of what the community and their family would say if they knew their daughter was a 'freak', but that was all Anna knew. In reality, she wasn't the only one in her household with this quality. Her mother was a metamorphmagus too, and could change appearance at will. Things were easier for her mother though, she grew up in a Wizarding household where this was a cause for wonder, and a nice thing. But the situation was different for Anna. She grew up surrounded by muggles, her magical parents not even telling her that they were wizards. Anna's parents didn't like this. It meant that she would be different from the muggles, and be seen as different too. She was supposed to blend in with muggles, not be different like this! They knew she was a metamorphmagus when she was born, when her hair started changing colour, starting off as brown (thank goodness, or it would have looked very weird indeed, hair being blonde or something and darkening, but brown and turning black was what happened and it was not too hard to cover up, they could always tell anyone who noticed that they would have noticed wrong). Her parents always kept close to her, lest she show any sign of changing appearance in front of others. Thankfully, Anna was a serious and calm girl, one who didn't lose her temper in front of others, so the appearance change wasn't seen too often. Her parents usually encouraged her to stay inside her room, where she could change in peace, feeling angry or sad or stressed there, no one would see, and once she calmed down, her appearance would revert back to normal, so little harm done. As Anna grew up, she found that these changes could be controlled. When she was bored, she had some fun changing her hair color and length, eye shape and color, evening out her skin, making it darker or fairer etc. The only time she used this ability outside home was in school plays. She hated wigs, and had to appear blonde. She would simply change her hair length and colour and make it look like she was wearing a wig, no one ever suspected that the wig was still safely hidden inside her bag. When she got to know of the Wizarding world when she was ten, her parents told her that she was a witch, and a metamorphmagus, just like her mum. She was so excited. Finally, somewhere where she wouldn't be scolded for using her abilities! She'd be able to give free rein to it at last! Her Hogwarts letter was explained away to the muggles that she had won a scholarship to a boarding school in Scotland.

Character Backstory: Anna grew up in a household where excellence was mandated in everything. Her parents were high achievers, and had been all their life. Life hadn’t always been easy though, her grandparents struggled a lot to migrate from China to England in hope of a better life and when Anna was little, their family was so poor they could not even afford to get three square meals a day. Her family worked hard and turned it around so well that by the time she was eight, they were making a large sum, with her grandparents working as top executives of a tech company. That’s why she was expected to excel in every aspect, so she could live a good life as well. Now, life was great, Anna lived with her parents, grandparents, aunt and uncle and sister in a rather large house in Westminster, near the Abbey. Her dad was a muggle-born wizard and her mother a metamorphmagus, both Chinese. They kept her from the Wizarding world for fear of her accidentally spreading that info to the rest of her family, mainly her aunt, uncle and cousins who were muggles. They made her live a thoroughly muggle lifestyle and kept their magic abilities hidden from her till she turned ten, sending her to muggle school and they even got muggle jobs and kept their abilities hidden. Her school was a five minute walk away and as she got older, she took charge of taking her sister there as well. She was a prodigy in school, skipping a few grades, and maintaining a straight A+ average, topping her class in academics. She was great at sports, music and almost everything the school offered and was routinely teased for being a nerd. The moment she found out she was accepted to Hogwarts though, there was no looking back. She knew this was where she had to go.
First instance of magic Anna’s first instance of magic happened when she was five. A man in the neighbourhood had come at their door, claiming the family was a disgrace, that they didn’t belong here, and rudely said a few more things that made her seething with rage. That was no way to talk to anyone! She poked her chopsticks hard into her food and surprisingly, they jumped out of her hand and poked her hand, and landed a noodle on it too. Luckily, her whole family was glaring at the man, and the man at them, so thankfully no one noticed. She didn’t get into trouble but certainly couldn’t explain this away

Character Special Race/Talent: Seer

Getting the Sight wasn't something Ava ever expected, nor needed. Her father, Mathew, came from a pureblood family, but his father wasn't a seer, neither her grandparents. No one could understand where it came from, until her great-grandmother, who cut all her connections with the Lynn family came forward, when she heard about the peculiar events happening with one of the Lynn child. She never told anyone, she was a seer, coming from a age when seers were feared and killed, but hearing from the gossips of her huge family, a "lucky girl," she had to come out.

It was like her father's lineage still possessed the abilities to see the visions of future, which somehow skipped through generations and generations until it reached her. Before she ever even held a wand, all of Ava's life, she was considered the lucky child, or like her mother calls her "God's Favourite." Before she reached age eleven, she never experienced the full trances of an adult Seer. Instead, she did had flashes of intuitions like moving a hand to catch a glass a second before it tipped.

As she prepares to enter Hogwarts, the flashes got a bit more descriptive, not as much as they are for someone much older, but enough that she knew she is being warned. She has begun to notice moments where her focus on the real world wavers. True to her analytical nature, Ava doesn't view this power with fear, but something she could figure out. Though it was hard for her to understand, that the future aren't fixed certainties. She used to consider them as something which is bound to happen, no matter what changes, but she learned that's not the case always.

This unpredictability is probably the most frustrating part of her gift. Unlike her textbooks she can study from front to back, but the Sight hits her at moments beyond her control. She is a bit cautious of the way people are seen with her ability; she knows that Seers are often seen with suspicious or dismissed as frauds when a predicted event is 'disproved' by someone's intervene.

Ava wouldn't have even noticed that she was a Seer, if her aunt from her father's side didn't pointed her out to be always 'lucky'. That's when her paternal great grandma, who was surprisingly-not so surprisingly still alive, called her for a private chat. She asked the little girl tons of questions, why she always stops when something wrong is going to happen, why she starts packing her stuff saying its going to rain even when the weather is alright, and actually getting unexpected rain afterwards. Her great-grandma an undisclosed seer herself did confessed to Ava. She told her the expectations put on her because of her unusual ability, she wasn't trying to scare her, just warn her. Warn her to only tell the most trusted people about her powers. To not get used by the wrong people. She knew, Ava would be a powerful witch but that's just her grandma care speaking, she wished Ava luck.

Ava was born on 22 April 2014 in Lower Slaughter, England. It is a quiet village where she spent all her childhood. She was raised by a pureblood father and a Muggleborn mum. Both of them pampered a lot since she was an only child. Being an only child, she got so used to being alone, that she made tons of friends in her neighborhood. Since she grew up in a house with both magic and muggle life combined, she knew how to blend in with her muggle friends. Her mum gets so excited knowing she loves being around muggles cause that's what her life used to be when she was young. Her father, came from a family who despised muggles, but when he married her mum, they disowned him. That's why he didn't want Ava to grew up in the same hate.

Ava had quite a peaceful and simple childhood. She loved exploring nature and observing people when she was young. She attended a Muggle school for her basic education before Hogwarts, where she learned the basics of reading and writing. This was actually her father's idea to admit her at such school, to keep her roots to non-magical side. There she met many kids, she made friends with. Though she was never overly extroverted, Ava did enjoyed making friends.

When she first received her Hogwarts letter, she was overjoyed. She heard so much about Hogwarts from her parents, she was dying to go there. Everyone expected her to be in Hufflepuff, but when the sorting hat screamed Ravenclaw, she was shocked. Her father was secretly glad, he himself was a Ravenclaw when he was young.

First Instance of Magic:

My first magical spark happened when I was seven, and we were at a local fair. I still faintly remember, how after so many fail ring throws, I finally won a large bunny stuffed toy, when a random strange boy came and snatched it from my hand. I got scared, angry and upset all at the same time. I didn't even realize when my pent up emotions came out in the form of magic. The decorative fairy lights above my head and around the store suddenly burst and sparkly material came out of it like a confetti. Everyone thought it was an electric malfunction, but when we got back home, mum and dad told me it was magic.

Character Special Race/Talent: Metamorphmagus
Reducio

With ancestral roots extending to ancient China dating back to the early years of the Ming Dynasty, the Yan Clan's harrowing history of barely scraping by in lowest depths of poverty as farmhands to clawing a harsh trail up to the upper echelons of wizarding society is a common tale spoken with envy and bitter admiration. Holding unusual influence and power over trade for magical wares, Wizard Asia’s merchants far and wide knew and feared the Yan Clan. No one could miss the clan's most distinctive trait: Their metamorphmagi. In particular, their female metamorphmagi.

For generations, the Yan Clan celebrated and valiantly safeguarded the unique talent in their bloodline, with the pure-blooded main family securing only the highest caliber of pureblood families that they could find for their marriages. Yan daughters who inherit this “ancestral gift" are heralded as the pride and treasures of the clan, with many of them recorded as respected clan leaders. Wizarding society could only ponder about and assume what role these Yan metamorphmagi women played in the clan trade, with the ability of morphing one’s appearance seeming so disconnected from the trade of magical wares. However, in the most obscure of dining halls and pubs, people murmur and whisper century-old tales of mysterious figures with features that melt like wax, whisking away secrets that collapse incumbent trade powerhouses and rival families. Yet, after spreading from listener to listener with details and allegations more outlandish than the last, these stories remained seemingly unfounded as the interwoven truth became diluted by word of mouth, eventually becoming dismissed as baseless rumours and labelled as the bitter allegations and slander of rivals.

Decades of continued prosperity and growth passed, and soon, the 21st century arrived with little sight of the traditions of the Yan Clan surrounding their metamorphmagi fading with time.

Born in 1989, Yan Jin-Kai (嫣锦凯) was a child born into the main Yan family as the sole legitimate son to his parents. In his youth, the main family of the Yan Clan had been at the prime of its legitimacy and power, witnessing record growth in both their trade business and in the number of metamorphmagi daughters being born within the main family in the past 3 generations. Being the second-eldest child and younger sibling of his older, distinguished metamorphmagus sister who was the designated heir, he had been set for a life in a supporting role in his sister’s shadow– Until his sister’s accident. A terrible splinching accident in her bid to escape an assassin on her business trip, the messenger reported. After days of unrelenting and chaotic debate with the elders, the title of heir was deferred onto Jin-Kai.

The pressure to succeed and lead the clan placed on the new Yan heir was crushing. Amidst false, sympathetic condolences over his sister and his parents entering seclusion for mourning, Jin-Kai had to navigate the whirlpool of clan politics and handle the family trade affairs alone. Years into this exhausting power struggle and calls for him to wed, a beacon of salvation shone on the young man. A business venture had called Jin-Kai to Russia, and one night, at a stagnant negotiation table, Avreliya Ostrovsky, the eldest daughter of the disgraced Ostrovsky family, crossed his path as a hired assistant scribe. With just one glance at her soulful blue eyes and a taste of her clever wit, the man became besotted with her, and began anonymously sending gifts her way. It did not take long for the perceptive Avreliya to identify her secret admirer, and despite their differences in social standing, the two began to court in secret.

However, negotiations in Russia soon fell through, forcing the man back to Macau. Rumours spread of marriage talks for the Yan Clan heir months later, and a heartbroken Avreliya, who could not forget her love, could no longer stand it. She fled from home, travelling to Macau and appearing before Jin-Kai to tearfully declare her enduring love, thinking that she would, at the very least, rest easy after seeing him for the last time as his lover before he was married to another. To Avreliya’s shock, Jin-Kai threw himself at her feet and proposed, confessing to his equal measure of love. Barely weeks later, against the will of clan elders and to the shock of the world, the two purebloods were wed in the privacy of the Yan family estate in Macau.

Merely a year after their scandalous marriage, the touching romance between Jin-Kai and Avreliya culminated in the fulfilment of his duty to produce an heir, for Avreliya fell pregnant. The clan seer had predicted a child who would arrive in a great ruckus and be the centre of attention, and the arrival of an heir with the ancestral gift became highly anticipated.

Months later, the premonition would prove itself to be accurate. The birth of Erast Yan, the first child and only son of Yan Jin-Kai and Avreliya Ostrovsky, was met with nothing but ruckus, for he was born fulfilling only one of the two expectations pinned upon him: The umber brown of his soft tuft of hair melting into blonde undoubtedly marked him as gifted, but therein rested the scandal– “Him." It was taboo, terrifying even, for a son to possess the gift, yet the truth was clear. Erast Yan was a metamorphmagus, and signs would show to prove it.

From the moment he was born, small shifts in his appearance would mark him as a metamorphmagus. Sharpened teeth that would slice into his gums after an upsetting scolding, an unnatural shade of black in his normally blue eyes after yet another dinner eaten alone – all signs representative of the Yan Clan's cherished ancestral gift, yet meaning close to nothing when the host of this gift was not desired.

Deep breathing became a commonplace in his daily life whenever he felt even a twinge of the telltale ache of growing teeth in his jaw or felt a tingle on his scalp when his hair would suddenly grow long enough to poke his eyes. By the age of ten, Erast was able to keep most of his emotion-driven changes under control with careful discipline and morning meditations.

Character Backstory (Metamorphmagus):
Reducio

Born the first child and only son to the infamous pureblood lineages of the Yan Clan and House Ostrovsky in Macau (SAR), China, the shackles of his blood and ancestry bound him since childhood. The union of the two bloodlines by his mother, Avreliya Ostrovskaya (Аврелия Островская), and his father, Yan Jin-kai (嫣锦凯), had been one of the most controversial within the pureblood wizarding communities. The disparities were scandalous.

The elusive Yan Clan’s bloodline extends centuries back to the Ming Dynasty in China. Notorious for its global trading empire and alleged ties in the underworld, the legacy of Yan Clan was one of Wizard Asia’s signature “rags to riches” tales. In stark contrast, House Ostrovsky, once famed for their achievements in the expert study of astronomy, is the laughing stock of Wizard Russia. Disgraced and shunned by Russian wizarding society following a disastrous scandal, the family now scrambles to maintain the last of their honour. A marriage between the two families would have been nothing short of disadvantageous for the Yan Clan, something that could erode the main family’s legitimacy beyond repair. Yet, when Avreliya fled from Russia to profess her enduring love for Jin-Kai, the Yan patriarch shocked the world and the clan by discarding propriety and tying the knot with his true love without hesitation.

It was a romance made for fairytales, borne of a rare and genuine love that defied hierarchy and distance. Yet, raised in a household formed from such affection, Erast grew up starved for it. The reason? He was born wrong.

The Yan Clan was renowned for their incredible metamorphmagus talents in their female offspring. For generations, the clan has treasured and celebrated the birth of metamorphmagus daughters. As the head of the main family, it was only natural for Erast’s father to desire a metamorphmagus daughter for his eldest child and heir. That wish was partially granted: Erast was a metamorphmagus, but a male one. There were no male metamorphmagi in the clan. His existence was unnatural, taboo even.

The aftermath of his parents’ controversial marriage had stirred enough opposition from the Yan Clan elders and re-awakened the threat of power-hungry rivals as is. In such a hostile and volatile environment, news of Erast's existence would be nothing short of disastrous to his father's tireless efforts to secure his position. It would have been a fatal blow to the main family's legitimacy. Thus, for the first six years of his life in Macau, Erast was raised as the family's most guarded secret.

Due to the concealment of his existence, Erast found his world beginning and ending at the walls of the estate, with only his family, a half-blood governess, and the household servants bearing witness to his existence. A solitary childhood, soothed only by the occasional smothering bursts of love from his mother and constant presence of his younger sisters.

Erast’s mother does everything in her power to conceal the disappointment of his father, to steer the boy’s attention far away from it, but Erast isn't blind. From deferring the task of naming him at his birth to his mother to his blatant reluctance to be near him, his father's feelings towards him can't be clearer.

In the shadows of the estate, Erast received an heir’s education, studying the six arts (六藝), standard elementary-level subjects such as mathematics, and estate management affairs as the eldest child. After all, even a hidden heir has to be a competent one. As a young child, under the strict guidance and care of his governess, Zhang Yue-Lian (张月莲), Erast worked relentlessly to be deserving of his father's recognition and the title of heir, hoping that one day, his efforts would be rewarded. After all, most fairytale protagonists that he read about were rewarded for hard work. That's what's fair, right?

The day that his youngest sister was born, that hope shrivelled. Erast was six at the time, and unlike him, she was born right: a metamorphmagus daughter. That changed everything. She was the final piece that silenced the doubts of the clan elders and distant branch families, solidifying his father's legitimacy as a worthy head of the main family able to protect the ancestral gift. She became the family treasure, the clan's hope for a new golden age, and him, an heir in none but title. Whatever diligence he had eroded quickly into frustration.

With newfound stability for the family name came flaming ambition: Less than a year after his youngest sister's birth, Erast's father obtained the clan elders’ approval and relocated the family to Britain in a daring bid to expand the clan's influence. This temporary peace would soon be shattered, as talks of sending Erast to his estranged relatives, the Ostrovskys, in Russia, began. The idea would have become a reality, had his magic not manifested so violently and frightened his mother so deeply the day that he was set to depart. The years that followed felt like a curse wrapped in a blessing’s drapes, for little changed apart from his parents’ growing adoration of his youngest sister.

In Britain, Erast begrudgingly continued studying under the tutelage of his governess, who had grown fond of him and decided to follow the family abroad. Her care and guidance steered him away from total abandonment of his studies out of spite, encouraging him to channel his energy elsewhere, specifically his greatest passion: Astronomy. Years of loneliness drove him to find friends in the stars and night sky, which his mother taught him to navigate as a child. Stargazing in the attic became a nightly affair, an effective incentive to complete his studies to exchange textbooks for star maps. He adored the constellations and lone stars, murmuring his secrets to them and reading them his favourite fairytales as if they could hear him from the skies above. After all, the view through the telescope made his tiny world so much bigger. However, it didn't change how life crawled in a bore. Study, entertain his sisters, eat, star-gaze, sleep: The routine was infuriating, painful even.

The dreadful routine seemed as if it would last forever, until a foreign owl landed in front of Erast’s mess of star maps with a damp delivery in its beak. Fate seemed to have finally taken pity on him, because with that snow-soaked Hogwarts acceptance letter, the world gifted him a ticket to freedom.

First Instance of Magic:
Reducio

Two years after relocating to Kent, England, his parents grew concerned for his lack of magical manifestation. They began discussing plans to relocate him to Russia to be under the care of his maternal grandparents. On the surface, the decision explained that after he manifested magic, he would be able to attend Koldovstoretz instead, just like his paternal aunt and mother had. To an 8-year-old Erast, who had grown fatigued of listening to his parents' every instruction, the decision just sounded like a lazy excuse to discard him, sending him away to a land that he had never set foot in.

Years of obedience and obligation already weighed heavily on the eight-year-old boy. Why should he be sent away, but not his sisters? Was he truly so different? Being told to crush his only wish and desire, of a life of freedom away from being a son with his family name at Hogwarts, had been his last straw. He snapped. He burst into an outrage for the first time in his life, and an ugly quarrel swept the dining room. The indignation and fury engulfed his mind, burning and blurring his rational mind. Words didn't feel real, nothing did behind tears, until the silky touch of gloved hands tightly cupping both his cheeks yanked him back to reality.

What greeted him was a terrible mess– sharp grunts from a silver cabinet that imploded, echoing through the silent room, the clatter of shattered porcelain china down onto the marble floors, and, more importantly, the tearful assurances of his mother. As everything fell apart, for the first time in ages, Erast felt contentment.
