In theory you could use any spell to duel, it’s just that most wouldn’t do anything. For example, what are you going to use Scourgify for during the duel? Or Lumos?

Actually, I was looking at the list of approved dueling spells and there is a Lumos type of spell that works for dueling: Blinding Lighting Charm • Lumos Maxima • [Support] [EOT] • WDC 11 (3rd year spell). It debuffs your opponent and blinds them I guess?

But how to incorporate that into a mini plot hm...

It's kind of like Incendio vs Incendio Duo I think. Where you'd want to use the stronger one over the less stronger one. Although Incendio you get earlier and I think has a smaller WDC. Maybe Lumos vs Lumos Maxima is the same? I mean I don't see Lumos listed in dueling spells, only Lumos Maxima but I do see both Incendio and Incendio Duo listed in dueling spells. Why you'd want to cast Incendio over Incendio Duo is because sometimes people don't have the stronger version or don't have much faith in being able to beat the WDC, so they go for the weaker version?
