Creating a thread for the dormitory isn't necessary if you don't want to. However, if you want your character to be able to create threads in a dorm you should do a thread in the respective dorm (if you are a hufflepuff). If you want to create a thread, you just have to click the pencil that is located in the upper left corner of the page.

It will take some time for you to get enough money for a pet, so I would like to tell you how to earn money on Hio. Students can join errands to earn some nice rewards. Please check out the errand forum [Accio]. There is currently an errand you can join where you can earn 4 sickles and some chocolate frogs in [Dance of the Bushpeople] if you're able to complete the word count requirement before the deadline. You can also sign up for the April errand to earn 2 House Points and 6 Sickles [Spring of Sweetness, Softness and Stickiness].

that's right, you can just go to the girls dormitory every 23 hours to collect 1 sickle, in the upper left corner

If it's under "Flying", it means that your message is delivered successfully and the recipient has it in their mailbox, but they have not read it yet.

Signing up for a dorm, just like registering for the Characters Index or applying for an ability, takes time. Your application post must be manually reviewed by a staff on this site and please remember that they are unpaid volunteers who also have duties in real life (such as family, work, or school); therefore it may take up to two weeks for your application to be reviewed. However, if you have been waiting for more than 14 days, of course you're welcomed to ask an admin by sending them a message.
