Cedarwood Castle, mid-August.

Though she was far from the potioneer her mother was —not nearly as prolific or even experimentally sly between her duties — there was a certain tranquillity within the workroom that fascinated Astrea. This laboratory was unique from the manor's overall isolation in its subtle disturbances, one of few well-frequented locations of both Lady Chou and her personal house elves. Unlike the experienced hush of non-interference undertaken by the great majority of the manor’s staff, Cedarwood Castle’s potion lab was a rare glimpse into constant activity. Between the robust servants’ storeroom of kept ingredients and empty vials and the many works in progress, Astrea’s Lady Mother was fiercely particular over the location’s upkeep. Consequently, requesting permission to utilise its services had been a careful subject broached only with extreme caution — a matter Astrea had undertaken only with her years of competence and filial piety to guide her.

A faint warmth emitted from the low flame Astrea had stoked to preheat her cauldron, only somewhat noticeable as she carefully sliced and weighed four ounces of erumpent horn. Though it had been pre-drained as per a house elf’s duty before the Lady had left to attend to a calling card, Astrea set the rest of it well away from her workspace to be placed back into their reserve collection. Unlike the dimly maintained storage rooms connected to the potions lab, her mother preferred a well-lit workspace in the form of ornately decorated magical lamps — as such, what little light the thinning fire provided did little to contribute to the overall ambience. Had Astrea been brewing her potions within the oil-lamp-lit potion classroom, perhaps there may have been a more dramatic effect.

After finely grinding the sliver of horn in a clean mortar, Astrea took great care against overly agitating the dangerous mixture while she carefully added two measures of exploding fluid and three measures of flobberworm mucus to the cauldron. It would not do well to disturb her mother's carefully maintained laboratory considering the privilege of her current attendance, especially with such an aggressive potion. Leaving the potion in progress to simmer shortly before its final brew time, Astrea busied herself by mindfully referring to both her extensive notes and her mechanical stopwatch for the next five minutes. Once the required time had elapsed, the Slytherin retrieved her wand from its stand and waved it over the developing potion.

With the grand bulk of the preparations finished, Astrea now only had the last few steps to complete within the remaining 35 minutes of brewing before the potion's completion. She, ever the dutiful heir seeking to maintain her responsible reputation and fluent wielder of silvered silence, used this time wisely to thoroughly clean her mortar and pestle of the remaining ground Erumpent horn before portioning out sulphur and African sea salt within. Pulverising the yellowed mixture into fine dust, she added a short amount of the powder into two glass vials in wait for the brewing liquid's imminent completion.

Once she had declared the 35 minutes to be finished by way of diligent timekeeping, Astrea promptly extinguished the flame and levitated the cauldron from its stand. Distributing it equally into its containers, Astrea was pleased to see the liquid settle and react to the underlying sediment, rapidly leaching into a brilliantly intense poppy red that signified its success. Corking the vials, she then strung a decorative white ribbon — a mark of her father's lineage — around each bottleneck to differentiate between her Lady Chou's brews.

Potion: Confusing Concoction
Ingredients required: Skurvy Grass, Lovage, Standard Ingredient, Sneezewort, Fluxweed
Roleplay (314/200; Not including A/N.)

Reducio
Cedarwood Castle, mid-August.

The confusing concoction would require far less time than her previous batch of potions, yet it simultaneously required fewer hazardous ingredients and more continual involvement. An adequate trade-off considering its less destructive effect. As such, Astrea had deigned to brew this potion only after she had thoroughly reset her location and gathered a fresh set of materials.

She began by cleanly chopping three sprigs of Scurvy grass into small pieces, adding two measures into the cauldron with little finesse. In a separate location, she then began to pulp her sprigs of lovage into a paste, adding two measures of Standard Ingredient to the herb-filled mortar. (A/N: This author would make a joke about her pitiful strength modifier but it tells itself… Let's just say using a mortar and pestle is enough of an arm workout.) Once the mixture had been well-prepared, she incorporated the sticky substance into the heated cauldron and stirred five times clockwise, mentally recording each new rotation. Upon the fifth circulation, she cast her wand over the mixture and let it brew for the next half-hour, returning her used ingredients to their appropriate locations within the adjacent storage rooms.

Once the potion had been brewing for its allotted time. Astrea moved to modify the cauldron’s underlying heat, holding within her non-wand hand her mechanical stopwatch to ensure exactly 30 seconds had passed before reducing it back to its consistent medium. Perhaps the least standardised step of the recipe — manually tearing apart a sprig of fragrant sneezewort into smaller pieces — gave way to a single anti-clockwise stir before Astrea had once more turned back to her magically-scoured mortar. In it, she ground one sprig of fluxweed into a smooth paste and added it to the cauldron, taking the next five minutes to wash her hands and once more cast a quick cleaning charm over her tools.

In a final incorporation of magic, Astrea completed the potion by waving her wand over the completed brew, seeking only success as the liquid inside shimmered, reflecting a homogenous midnight blue onto the cauldron’s insides.

Potion | Murtlap Essence
Ingredients required | Honey, Dried Nettles, Murtlap Tentacles, Graphorn Horn
Roleplay (315/200) |
Reducio
It was in September 2023, all of the Second Year students gathered in the Basement. They were having a Potions class. Zach heard that they would be taught about some healing potions. He could not be patient about what potions would be learned. They were walking together to the classroom and took seats. The class started and that day they learned about Murtlap Essence. It was a salve that was used to treat some minor cuts and abrasions. It had both analgesic and healing effects. "So it also reduces the pain," Zach thought while writing on his notes.

After the lecture session finished, students have the opportunity to brew the potion. His eyes were gleaming. Then he prepared all the equipment and ingredients based on the material in the book. He prepared the cauldron standard size 2 and felt that the cauldron is cold. Maybe because it was in the classroom for some minutes. Then he poured 3 measures of Honey in the cauldron. Using his wands, he cast, "Incendio!" and control it manually into a low simmer, preventing the honey from boiling. After that, he added a measure of dried nettles to the cauldron and stirred it gently in a clockwise manner thrice. Zach chopped 1 Murtlap Tentacles coarsely and added it to the cauldron. He allowed all of the ingredients in the cauldron to simmer for 25 minutes.

While waiting, Zach ground a Graphorn Horn. He looked at the watch on his left hand and saw that 24 minutes had passed. He scooped and measure the ground horn then he added a measure of it to the cauldron. After that, Zach stirred it once in an anti-clockwise manner and allowed it to simmer for another 10 minutes. Using his wand again, he imbued the potions by waving it over the mixture. He bottled and cork the liquid immediately and carefully in a phial.

Potion | Bruise Removal Paste
Ingredients required | 3 Murtlap Tentacles, 1 Jar of Honey, 2 Measures of Bubotuber Pus, 6 Seashells, 2 Measures of Flobberworm Mucus

Roleplay (200 words min) |
Reducio
Alan stepped to the cauldron almost nervously as he regarded the ingredients he had purchased or otherwise acquired. Having been hit by one too many Flipendos during practice had made it necessary for him to brew some batches of a potion, despite his dislike for brewing. And visiting the nurse or asking for batches from them was also out of question, because Alan was an adult by now and shouldn't constantly have to rely on others. Once Hogwarts was over in less than a year by now, he also had to make such decisions. To either spend a fortune on all sorts of potions or to instead make at least the simpler kind of potions, the ones that were needed quite frequently, by himself. So he regarded the five ingredients and flipped through the pages until he found the recipe for the "Bruise Removal Paste" he wished to make. Alone the list of ingredients caused his face to contort in disgust as he began with the first step, placing the cauldron over a medium flame and letting it heat up for ten minutes. A time which went by agonizingly slow, as he fidgeted and waited. As the time finally was reached he added three Murtlap tentacles to the cauldron, making a face at how slimy they felt, followed by a jar of honey that almost slipped right in with the sticky substance from how slippery the tentacles had made his fingers. In disgust he wiped off his fingers at the apron he was wearing, knowing other people might shake their head at this, but Alan would simply tell them that getting dirty was the whole purpose of an apron so why not make use of that. Stirring the forming concoction five times, clockwise it made disgusting slurping noises as the tentacles mingled with the sticky honey and once more Alan pulled a face at this. Almost immediately he rushed to take the cauldron off the fire and almost got himself burned in the process. Now for the next even more disgusting ingredient, he measured two fluid ounces of Bubotuber pus, the smell reminding him of the muggle vehicles and the potions that made them work, the ones that had a biting stench to them. With the cauldron still being off the flame, he stirred it three times, counter clock-wise and watched for any sort off reaction in the cauldron as he put it back onto the flame, all angsty that perhaps he had already messed the potion up by now. Well there was no knowing until he tried it at the end and so he waved his wand over the concoction and turned the flame to low heat. Now he had to wait. Again. Before he could continue, but at least there was more things he had to do so it wouldn't be just boring. He slowly began crushing six seashells with a mortar and pestle, and by the time they reached the state of a fine powder, 60 minutes had passed. So he added three pinches of crushed seashells into the cauldron, followed by two measures of Flobberworm mucus, vaguely remembering that it was some kind of thickener for potions and now there was waiting and occasional clockwise stirring of the mixture until it reached the desired consistency of a thick paste. Finally happy with the result and reminded of why he disliked potioneering so much, he waved his wand at the paste and turned off the heat. Now he had to wait, again, until it cooled down in this cauldron so he could fill it in the airtight containers. Then there was only vain hoping that he never had to brew again.

Potion | Draught of Peace
Ingredients required
| Moonstone, Unicorn Horn, Porcupine Quills, Valerian Roots

Roleplay (200 words min) |
Reducio
Méabh yawned. It was late and the castle was quiet, and by all reason, she should be asleep. Yet she didn't have the calm to settle down for the night. A Drowsiness Draught might help with that, but she'd always preferred the effects of a good Draught of Peace; and Emery, the nurse, had been asking for a new batch, anyway.

At least, this was a potion she had a good deal of routine in brewing, so she did not need to think overly much as she gathered the ingredients and began crushing moonstones into a fine powder. She had picked the correct size, and it resulted easily in the two measures she needed. Picking up another mortar, she gave the unicorn horn the same treatment, before doing the same with the prepared porcupine quills. Now the only preparation step left was to cut the valerian roots into even cubes.

That done, she set the cauldron on a medium flame, measuring in a quarter measure of the moonstone powder. After stirring once counterclockwise, then the porcupine powder was added, followed by two stirs clockwise. It was easy so far, but would only get more complicated from here.

The quarter measure of unicorn horn was still straightforward enough, but she blinked, pulling her focus together for the 1 and 5/24 measure of moonstone powder that was required next. It required some rather elaborate measuring and splitting until she was sure she had the proportions right.

Once she had added that too, she stirred the mixture counterclockwise thrice, before sprinkling the remaining unicorn horn into the cauldron and following it with a clockwise stir.

The rest was then quickly done, one eighth measure of moonstone powder, a counterclockwise stir, then finally the valerian root and another four clockwise stirs. 2/3 of a measure of moonstone powder, and three counterclockwise stirs, then it was finally time to reduce the heat to low.

She used the seven minutes it needed to simmer to clean up the tools she'd used, mortars and knife; putting away leftover ingredients. Once the time was up, she waved her wand, then quickly filled the finished potion into vials. Once done, she smiled down at the potions, then moved to put all of them away. She'd sleep just fine now.

Potion | Pompion Potion
Ingredients required | 2 Flitterby Moths, 4 Bouncing Bulbs, 4 Foxglove Flowers
Roleplay:
Finally the potion's class was over and the room was empty of students. Ying had been waiting outside, reading her textbook to remember every step of how to brew the Pompion Potion. It wasn't a difficult mixture to make, but still, she couldn't afford to miss a step and ruin any of the ingredients, they hadn't exactly been easy to come by...when the last person left, Ying finally closed her book and entered the classroom.

Walking towards one of the work tables, Ying looked around to make sure no one else was there, everything would be lost if anyone saw what she was about to do. When she finally chose the table in the most secluded corner of the room, Ying placed her backpack on the stool next to her and began rummaging inside of it in search of the small bag where the ingredients were. Once found, the young girl placed it on the table and began to organize all the materials she would need.

With everything prepared, she began by turning the fire on high and heating her cauldron. The next step was to put the Flitterby Moths into a mortar and crush them until it was transformed into a pulp that she immediately added to her cauldron. Taking a long metal spoon, Ying stirred it clockwise for two minutes, until she saw it gain a green color. "Perfect, so far so good!" She thought encouraging herself to continue. Now it was time to pay attention to the Bouncing Bulbs. First, the young Gryffindor cleaned the mortar, she would need to use it again and didn't wanted to mix those ingredients in a wrong timing. After that, Ying picked the Bouncing Bulbs up from the table and smashed them with one knife and put them into the mortar to finish the job of crushing them nicely.

Now was finally the time to join the ingredients, and so, Ying added the crushed Bouncing Bulbs to the cauldron. With the spoon, she stirred the mixture counterclockwise until it shown a red color, this processes took her about three minutes. As soon as she saw the mix changing to the right color, she cut the Foxgloves into thin slices and added it to the cauldron, was time to stir it slowly with the spoon again, clockwise and through one minute. Now she just had to wait for at least six or eight minutes until she sees the potion turning orange. Ying bit her lower lip staring into inside the cauldron, hoping she had done everything right...when she finally saw the potion turn into the expected color she sighed in relief and removed the cauldron from the heat, turning it off. With a wave of her wand, the potion was complete! Using three glass vials, Ying stored her potion carefully to not miss a drop.

With everything clean, now it was time to leave the classroom, preferably without anyone seeing her leaving the door!

Potion | Herbicide Potion
Ingredients required | 4 Spines of Lionfish, 2 Measures of Standard Ingredient, 2 Measures of Horklump Juice, 2 “Blobs” of Flobberworm Mucus

Roleplay (200 words min) |
Reducio
No one would ever dare to claim that Dee had a green thumb. She knew her way around Herbology, mostly for the sake of brewing potions. But she didn't like gardening, not really. Didn't enjoy digging around in the dirt to make sure a delicate sapling grew up healthy. Climb trees, lie on the grass and enjoy the sun? Sure. Weed gardens? No, thank you.

At least the last part was something that magic could help her with. Potions, more precisely. And that was what Dee was here for today. She dropped four spines of lionfish into her mortar, giving them a thorough grinding with her pestle, until they'd turned into a rough powder. Two measures of standard ingredients went in next, mixing with the lionfish spines as she turned those, too, into powder.

Three measures of that went into her cauldron, and she gave the mix a quick wave with her wand before she gave the potion time to brew for about 45 minutes. She used the time to tidy up the classroom, take inventory, and made a mental note to remind Professor Regan to stock up on bezoars. They seemed to be running low.

When the time had ticked down, two measures of Horklump juice needed to be added to her potion, after which she turned up the heat to a medium for just long enough to count down from ten, then dropped two blobs of flobberworm mucus into the potion, which turned it into a thick goo. Four stirs clockwise, then another wave of her wand completed the procedure.

At least the potion was easy.

Potion | Bruise Removal Paste

Roleplay (442/200) |

After having a little talk with Simon and his new friend, Madison, Zach went to his dorm to take some ingredients for the potion he had planned to make, Bruise Removal Paste. He immediately went to the Basement and checked the Potions Class. "Is Professor in her room?" he wondered while looking at the door of the Professor's office. The door opened, indicating that Zach could make the potion. Seeing that, the corner of his lips lifted slightly. He then decided to go straight to the room.

He took out a paper from his satchel, a note that was written by himself to help him remember the steps of brewing the Bruise Removal Paste. Then, he took all of the equipment and ingredients. "Now let's see. What should I do first?" Zach read the first line of the steps. He put his standard size 2 cauldron on the fire with his Incendio and waited for it to heat for 10 minutes. While waiting, he hummed some popular songs he heard when he was home last summer. Ten minutes passed, he added 3 Murtlap Tentacles to the cauldron with his pliers. Then he poured a jar of honey to the cauldron and stored it 5 times in a clockwise manner. After that, he took the potion off the fire with his Extinguo.

Next, he added 2 fluid ounces of Bubotuber Pus and stirred all the ingredients 3 times in a counter-clockwise manner. "Incendio." The cauldron was put back onto fire. Waving his wand, Zach imbued magic to the potion. Manually lower the heat, Zach let the potion simmer for 60 minutes. In this long time, he did his homework on the table nearby.

After an hour had passed, he crushed 6 sea shells into a fine powder and added 3 pinches of it to the cauldron. He also added 2 measures of Flobberworm Mucus. Still with the low heat, Zach was occasionally stirring the cauldron clockwise until the potion had reached a thick paste-like consistency. He once again imbued the potion with magic by waving his wand. "Extinguo." He put the fire off. Then he waited for the paste to cool while finishing his homework.

"I think it's pretty good," he said when looking at the paste. He put the paste in the airtight jar. He closed the jar and put it in his satchel. Now he didn't have to worry if he had some bruises. He cleaned up his mess he had made there. The boy also didn't forget to put his homework in his satchel. "I'm hungry. Is the dinner ready?" He left Potions Class and went to the Great Hall.

Potion | Calming Draught
Ingredients required | Lavender, Chamomile, Crocodile Heart, Peppermint, Standard Ingredient, Poppy

Roleplay (WC 630) |
Reducio
Koko had never quite enjoyed the more scholarly classes at Hogwarts, especially those where any small mistake could ruin the final product. One such class was Potions. Koko did her schoolwork, read her books and then avoided whatever else she could regarding the subject.

However, after multiple adverse reactions to rather common creatures (spiders), Koko found herself wanting some form of safety against fear. She had thought isolation was the answer, but after a few years of that, she gathered her courage, cauldron and supplies and found a small nook in the potions classroom.

Koko slowly set four sprigs of lavender and three chamomile petals into a mortar, and she ground it tensely, her features set into a small frown. She felt almost like she wasn’t supposed to be doing this. She was fine, after all ─ right now. She ground the flowers more. It didn’t even matter that this potion was going to be for her. If someone else needed it, if someone else went through something similar, they could have this potion in a heartbeat. And that was the point of this, right? To help?

Her frown deepened when she noticed she had done as the recipe commanded. The petals were now a fine powder. Such beautiful facets of nature reduced for human consumption. And it was her doing. Her fault.

She wrinkled her nose as she deliberately poured four measures of the powder into the cauldron.

Next was the crocodile heart. Luckily, Koko had remembered gloves, and she pulled them on before working with the heart. It didn’t stop her from grimacing as she chopped up the heart, but she had already put the powder in the cauldron. She couldn’t stop now. She had a job to do.

She added the newly-diced heart to the cauldron and stirred the mixture once before heating it. The time was counted off on her fingers. She counted to ten six times and lowered the heat once she finished. Then, she took three springs of peppermint and began grinding it in the mortar. This time, she took care to avoid making this powder as fine as the lavender-and-chamomile powder she’d crushed up earlier.

She added the peppermint dust to the cauldron and stirred five times, anti-clockwise. She felt more comfortable, but maybe that was just the calming smell of peppermint. She could definitely understand why peppermint was an ingredient of the calming draught.

Koko took her wand from where she had set it on the table, and she waved it over the potion. That was most of it done. Now she had to wait.

She took a little over an hour to practise some Quidditch manoeuvres outside, and when she came back to check the potion, it had progressed well. A small ghost of a smile crossed her face as she turned the heat to low.

The blonde Slytherin measured out two measures of standard ingredient and added it. Maybe she liked potions more in application than she did in homework. This was honestly a bit fun, she thought, stirring the mixture thrice clockwise.

Picking up the mortar ─ which was becoming one of her favourite objects ─ she took to crushing the dried poppy head. She diligently crushed it into a coarse powder, and her smile solidified as she added it to the cauldron. She let the mixture boil after turning the heat to high, and once again, she counted off the time on her fingers. Once she counted to forty, she turned off the heat and stirred thrice clockwise.

Finally, she picked up her wand once again and waved it. Done. Just like that.

Koko was surprised by how carefree she felt as she poured the potion into two glass phials. She would have to do this again sometime.

As a man who taught Astronomy in his tower, he didn't bring the cauldrons, but he did leave it at home, in the bathroom. He picked the wet towels out of the copper pewter cauldron and hung it up outside on the clothesline before going back into the bathroom to utilize the cauldron.

Admittedly Octavius cheated in his marriage. He used the Amortentia potion on his husband so he could avoid arguments, especially when he didn't want to have them around the kids. But now that he got a divorce, he might as well slip himself into the dating pool, but he was thirty something years old, almost forty. He was aging, and he felt that would scare people away, so of course, he would brew something that could help them focus on what was so important about him.

He knew it required a bottle of wine, which he got from the Kitchen, but perhaps not Chablis. It was of Barefoot Cellar. Everything else, he had collected earlier that morning via a quick stop at Diagon Alley and Knockturn to make sure he had everything he needed.

He placed a knife and a mortal and pestle on the bathroom sink. Perhaps he had everything he needed to make the potion, so perhaps now he should start, before he went out to the bar to have a conversation with some people and hopefully pick up a boyfriend.

He ignited the cauldron earlier to expedite the heating process in the case he had to use it, and he knew he had to.

"Let's see.. we start off with the knife and some belladonna berries." He said, counting 12 belladonna berries and then placing it onto a small plate he had in the bathroom, under the sink, he used the flat side of the knife to smash the berries. Once he finished smashing it, the juice ooze surrounded the interior of the plate and he poured the juice into the mortar, taking the flesh and skin off to the side, leaving it on the plate using his knife. Placing exactly three sprigs of lavender on the plate, the other side of where the skins and flesh of the berries resided, he roughly chopped the flower up. Once done chopping, he once again scraped it into the mortar, now crushing the two ingredients together. He continued crushing them until they basically formed a paste. Now using the cauldron, he turned the heat to medium heat, putting the paste into the copper cauldron.

Once the paste was fragrant, he felt it was time to pour in a third of his wine. Good, he was nearly done. Well, nearly done with the first part. He stirred the cauldron thrice clockwise, and he knew the first part was done. He needed to allow it to simmer for 17 minutes.

He needed to spend the duration of the time working with another third of his wine, but it meant he needed to grab his pewter cauldron from the basement. Which was entirely fine, it would just take him about a minute to lift it up the stairs. The best thing about magic is that magic is useful for the most part. "Leviosa." He said, watching the pewter cauldron levitate as he walked it up the stairs, placing it next to the copper cauldron.

He dumped the second third of his wine into the pewter cauldron, adding a measure of Pearl Dust into the cauldron, now stirring counter-clockwise three times. Now, all he had to do was to allow it to simmer for 14 minutes. Part Two of his brewing done.

Once the 17 minutes were up, he returned to the copper cauldron and took a quick glance inside. It was light pink, which was wonderful, and it was simmering!

But he had to add another ingredient to it. That was Part Three. He counted out each strand of Granian Hair. "One. Two. Three. Four." And out of nowhere, he started counting with the words from a nursery rhyme called 'This Little Piggy.' The fifth strand, "This little piggy went to the market." The sixth strand. "This little piggy stayed home." The seventh strand. "This little piggy had roast beef." The eighth strand. "This little piggy had none." And the ninth strand. "And this little piggy cried wee wee wee all the way home."

Good, all nine were on hand. Now to dispose of them into the copper cauldron. He allowed it 22 minutes to simmer.

He immediately went over to the pewter cauldron and added in the final third of the wine, effectively moving him towards the end sooner. Brewing the potion definitely took quite a long amount of time. He ripped leaves from the sprigs of Mint and added them into the pewter cauldron. Once again going counter-clockwise, he stirred seven times before switching directions and stirring clockwise twice. Now he had to allow the mixture in the pewter cauldron to simmer for an additional 18 minutes.

Now for the final part, he waited until the cauldrons were finished simmering, because he needed to remove them from the heat. Once both were done, he poured the mixture from the pewter cauldron into the copper cauldron. Once again, he had to reignite the copper cauldron to the medium heat, despite having recently took it off the heat. He added four whole Alihotsy Leaves and the skins and flesh from the belladonna into the cauldron, stirring counter-clockwise twice.

He took the dried and clean towels off of the lid to the copper cauldron, using it to cover the cauldron. He needed to figure out what he would do for the 45 minutes of waiting.

---fast forward 45 minutes, he spent the time picking up the bathroom and scrubbing the bathtub and toilet as well as the sink so that it was all clean.---

The time of waiting was done. The 45 minutes had passed. He turned the heat of the cauldron up, now adding a peacock feather to the liquid. He stared at the liquid, waiting for it to bubble. Once it bubbled, he took it off of the heat, adding a final measure of Pearl Dust. He began to stir the liquid in the cauldron, alternating between counter-clockwise and clockwise, allowing the incorporation of the dust and for the color to change to the color of Mother of Pearl.

Now that that the brewing was done, he needed to ensure it was complete, now waving his wand to complete the potion. "Sweet. Now to bottle this."

Potion | Invisibility Potion
Ingredients required | Cherries, Chicken, Spider Legs, Beetle’s Black Eyes, Essence of Demiguise, Sponge
Roleplay (200 words min) | WC: 305
Reducio
There were perks to the pureblood lifestyle, such as ease of access to alchemical components. Brewing with homegrown ingredients made potions more "personal", too, in Pericles' experience. He harvested a handful of cherries from a tree on the estate, plucked and cleaned a chicken from their coop, fished sponges out of storage, and retrieved a jar of spider legs from his room. His mother's potion storeroom was sure to have common beetle eyes and the rarer Tincture of Demiguise. She wasn't home to ask, but he would write her a note. She totally wouldn't mind.

Once the cauldron was boiling, he added the raw chicken and jotted down the time, returning three hours later. The brothy water that remained was drawn out with multiple sponges. Peri set them aside and used a holed ladle to scoop out the chicken remains. Six chopped cherries were scraped from a cutting board and into the vat, followed by wringing out the water from each sponge. As the fruit boiled in the broth, he stirred it clockwise three times, then lowered the heat and left it simmering. He idly flicked through a copy of Moste Potent Potions while waiting for it to turn purple. Once the color turned, Pericles emptied out two measures of spider legs, which had been reduced to a fine powder with mortar and pestle. He stirred the stuff clockwise once, then counted in three measures of beetle eyes.

The brew began to bubble. It was time to add a drop of rare tincture, which he paused to admire first, turning the vial to watch light dance in its amber liquid. Peri went back to his book for the next twelve minutes of simmering, and the moment it turned silver, he quickly moved to wave his wand over the cauldron.

Pericles wasn't keen on his parents asking why he might need a blood replenishing potion, so this one was brewed at school. Fat raindrops splattered against the windows of Ravenclaw Tower, a perfect excuse to stay in and brew something. He mixed twelve fluid ounces of honeywater into his cauldron, and while he waited for it to simmer, Peri crushed three dittany leaves with a mortar and pestle. The paste was scraped into the cauldron with a wooden spoon, then stirred clockwise four times. He used a pair of tongs to draw a pair of fairy wings from a jar. These were pulverized in the same mortar and pestle until blended with the sticky residue. The powder was added, his wand was waved overhead, and Pericles turned an hour-long hourglass. He would keep an eye on the grains while chipping away at some tedious homework. At the end of the hour, he eliminated the heat, stirred clockwise five times, and waited out the next thirty seconds. At that exact moment, a medium flame was rekindled. Pericles added two diced Valerian roots to the vat, then left it brewing for ten minutes. He double-checked the recipe, counted in two flower heads, stirred three more times anti-clockwise, then took off his gloves and took up his wand. After waving the aspen over the cauldron, the batch was complete, and Pericles would go about bottling it. The possibility of suffering blood loss at Hogwarts was low, but never zero.

Potion | Skelegro
Ingredients required | Ethanol, Bitterroot, Fanged Geranium, Standard Ingredient, Daisy Roots, Beetles' Black Eyes, Jewelweed, Fairy Wings
Roleplay (200 words min) | WC: 298

Pericles was pleased to be trusted with refilling the family's first-aid Skelegro bottle. He hated the smell of the stuff, however, so he made a point to gear against it. Goggles, gloves, and a cloth over his mouth was enough to keep the bitterroot from stinging his eyes and nose, and shielded against vapors as he poured three liquid ounces of ethanol to the unheated cauldron. He added the preemptively diced bitterroot, then crushed a Fanged Geranium with the flat side of his pruning knife. It was chopped into little cubes, and after he raised the flame to medium, he gave it a clockwise stir. Four measures of standard ingredient were blended with two bunches of daisy root in a mortar. Four measures of the resulting powder were then added to the cauldron, and after Pericles waved his wand over it, he checked his clock. It wouldn't be time to come back to it for at least another twelve hours, after dinner. He jotted a reminder on the back of his wrist before going about his day. When he returned, he used tweezers to add in eight beetle's black eyes to the reduction, stirred clockwise three times, and added an additional two sprigs of jewelweed. Pericles turned off the heat and pushed off his goggles, giving his work a satisfied inspection. A cloudless full moon was only a few nights away. As soon as it arrived, he wheeled the cauldron out under its light, letting it mature until the next morning. Pericles rose early, meeting the brew at sunrise to add a pair of fairy wings. After stirring four times anti-clockwise, he waved his wand from right to left, and left it to mature for another three weeks before adding it to the oh so fancy skeletal bottle.
