Hurried mistakes
Ross went silent, but was still actively nervous. He seemed ready to jump at any opportunity, so as soon as he offered to explain how to get it back Ross' eyes lit up. He was desperate enough to do really anything he could. It had to be difficult, sure, but nothing impossible. Well, that was until he heard the requirements.
Those seemed impossible. First he felt annoyance. Was this seriously what it was all about? He could have jut not made those simple mistakes and he would never have gotten himself into this ridiculous mess of a situation he was in. It left him dumbfounded. There were so many other requirements he could have done, yet this is what he decided? Who was this kid?
Then came a slight feeling of thankfulness and perhaps slight relief. Ross was right. There were so many other requirements he could have been forced to do, yet this is what he was forced into instead. It was not reputation-ruining. All it did was require a lot of work, which Ross was not certain he could do.
Finally came fear, as he realized he would have to genuinely be prepared. Ross had no clue how to do that. Potions was such a hated class to him. He did not understand it whatsoever. It was the right brain to the wizarding world. God forbid you had creativity, or else you would fail the class. One cranberry too much? You have made a poison, and when you use it you will suffer the consequences.
Ross knew well that not accepting these requirements would be a cretinous decision. It was requirements that seemed generous, but ones that he felt should not be the Slytherin's business. He felt slight shame and embarrassment, and he could not seem to put a true smile on his face. In its place was a sheepish look, as he knew well that these were fine requirements but ones he despised. An O seemed out of his range, but he supposed he could give it a shot. He found himself looking slightly downwards as he spoke.
"Suppose I could try..."
Correction, he had to try. If he did not, he would practically be giving up before he started.
"alright, I'll under take it!" he proclaimed, uneasiness lacing his words
He paused for a long moment, looking back up to the Slytherin.
"But.. what 'appens if I can't get an O? Maybe.. an E or somethin?" he inquired hesitantly, but found himself quickly correcting his words "Not that I'll screw it up! Just.. outta curiosity." he blatantly lied.
Something that nagged the back of his mind was how Flash may not keep up his end of the deal. He had no reason to doubt he would, but he was now well aware he would do very questionable things. Ross would ask, but he did not want to mess up his chances of such an 'okay' deal.

Hurried mistakes
It was too much for him to hold back any longer, he snorted. He held back the rest of the laughter in his stomach, looking away to regain his composure. The way the boy stumbled over his words, asking for a lighter sentence like a kid begging his parents for more allowance. He was really going to enjoy seeing this kid attempt to do even half of the hard work that he put into his life every day. He thought getting an O in Potions was hard, he should try balancing a delicate social reputation and keeping in top shape while he was at it. Not to mention the research he did outside mandatory study, he wondered what everyone else was even doing with their time. He would have gladly lived it for them.
Still, Flash was being honest with himself, he knew he was being petty. He could allow himself a little bit of pettiness, after all it was bringing him so much joy. He thought about the last time he thought so little of a person, with Ruka. That day he had realized too late that he was making everything worse, being blinded by his petty ambition to get one over on Jack. In his error, he had created one of the worst emotional tangles he had ever gotten himself into. It was a mess, like Ruka.
This was different, though. He wasn’t screwing this kid over, if anything, he might actually get a few better grades. Maybe he would learn some good study habits, or realize how to approach Potions in a way that he could better understand. Flash would teach him himself, if he could stand to talk to him without laughing. It wasn’t like he was wrong to think Ross was below him, he was basically grovelling. People like that wanted to be told what to do, they were all just lost sheep waiting for a shepherd.
”An O. If you underachieve this quarter, I’ll just hold onto it until the quarter when you do succeed.” Flash’s smile was gone, having vanished quickly. ”Also, the time starts now. No more talking.”

Hurried mistakes
Ross was left absolutely flabbergasted. He opened his mouth as if to respond, but was not foolish enough to speak. Was he reckless? absolutely. He had made plenty of mistakes in his eleven years of being alive, and today was a pure example of that. Foolish? Probably, but his mind was racing a twenty mile marathon and it was certainly winning.
Though it had only been ten minutes, it felt as if part of the world had crumbled. He partially blamed himself. If he had simply worked harder, none of this would have happened. If he had just taken a few social cues, then maybe he would have been able to just leave this classroom with complete confusion on how to do potions.
The other part of him absolutely blamed the smug Slytherin that sat right next to him
He was a jerk. They had no right to get into his personal space, but at the same time he felt perhaps he had it coming. The boy made a mental note to write it in his jour-
Shoot
Either way, he disliked the boy strongly. He was not sure if he meant the best for him or the worst, or perhaps he just liked the feeling of power. That was how he felt a lot of boys at his old school were. It was not exactly a problem, as they never interfered with his life. On the downside, he was now having to deal with this kid.
Who was this kid?
The Slytherin had peaked his interest. Once he got out of the whole mess, he would likely try to learn more of the boy. Sure it was the same mistake, but something about him made him simply so curious as to who he was. he wondered if it was a Slytherin thing to be such a cold-hearted jerk. he made a mental note to talk to more Slytherins, but he doubted he would have the courage to do so.
Ross let out a sigh, and turned himself towards his own desk as he watched the beginnings of the potion potion begin to set in the cauldron. He had to focus, but how could he focus with all these thoughts bumping into each other in his mind?
This would be an uncomfortable 35 minutes
