The Best Way To Spread Christmas Cheer.... PV

It seemed like Rafa was a bit tense and Katrina almost backed down. She didn't want to make him mad or anything. Then she realized, it might be a bit daunting to be surrounded by four girls. She pushed aside the uncomforted feeling as he told her to go ahead.

Katrina played the melody and mostly just chords to begin with. It had been odd not playing for so long then just all of the sudden playing in front of four people. She calmed her nerves and spoke to the girl with the violin.

"Key of G, by the way," she smiled and began with the chorus. She dearly hope that people would join in because her voice was shaky and not too good. She opened the journal to the page with the lyrics to 'Let it Snow' and set it up on the piano where they all could read.

Here goes nothing. "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" She started again from the beginning for everyone to join in.

"Oh, the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful.
And since we've got no place to go,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
"

Katrina's face flamed up. She was not the good singer and she was inwardly begging everyone to join in. She was not sure if they would but she was nervous. Katrina struggled to keep her hands steady as they were shaking from embarrassment. She continued and tried to keep herself smiling.

“Why’s it any of your business?”
"It isn't.", Opeila said, surprised of his anger. "Did I say that it was?"

"Opeila Seilun, it is nice to meet you all." Opeila smiled about Katarina's rhyme, grabbed the violin and joined in.
Playing the violin when she was alone always took her away, but the piano and the violin together... She could practically feel the tune in her body.
When Katarina started to sing, Opeila grinned, obviously the other girl had hoped not to sing alone. A little quieter she also joined in singing. The Slytherin wasn't a bad singer but not stunning either. What she was really talented with, was the instrument in her hands.
An unexpected voice from the door made her wince and the violin made an ugly noise. "Yes I do." She smiled at the Hufflepuff girl. "Do you? You care to join our attempt on spreading christmas cheer? I think there is still space in our choir."

It also was her first Christmas without her parents. She wondered. Would she even get presents from home? Her parents hadn't even sent her a letter yet. Maybe Hardin, the family owl, would care to visit her. The thought made her smile. Hardin and her spending Christmas together. It was calming to imagine not to be alone.

Sylvie smiled at the red-badged girl, a little embarrassed that she had barged in so suddenly. She felt a little bit apprehensive about joining in on carolling, but the boy at the piano looked like he was about to puke, so she supposed there wouldn't be too much judgement here. Either way, all the kids in this room looked kind enough. "Oh! I'd love to join in! I'll say a pray for your ears, though, since my voice is a little bit, uh... interesting. To say the least." She said with a chuckle. "Oh, yeah, I should introduce myself! I'm Sylvie. Nice to meet you all." Sylvie had finally caught on to the fact that she was doing her introductions and conversations all in the wrong order, and now her embarrassment reached new heights as she realised it would probably be polite to start the song herself, too. She wished phones worked in this place, so she could check if she actually knew the lyrics or if she was just making a fool of herself. "I should probably start from where you left off, right? Okay...

Man, It doesn't show signs of stopping
And I brought me some corn for popping
The lights are turned way down low
Let it snow, let it snow"

Sylvie felt like she would waste away if one of the others didn't join in and help back up her painfully average vocals. Despite her fears, she also started to wiggle a little bit, which was supposed to be a dance to the imaginary music that would usually be playing. It was like she was begging for the instruments to join in, too! Which she was...

As ashamed as he was to admit, Rafael became increasingly unnerved the more time he spent in the midst of the fairer gender. The young Gryffindor had always been very, very selective about the few that had heard him sing – even being in the environment he was in now, among other people, sent a chill down his spine, a feeling he absolutely abhorred with all his being. Though, the strange thing was, the more time he spent among the cheer and the music, the closer he found himself towards singing. He had yet to spare them any musical notes, although his fingers were currently moving freely along the keys of the grand instrument, notes flying through the air in a beautiful, complex sort of manner. The music they were making, he realized, was rather incredible, between the lot of them – Katrina was managing the higher octave rather well, and mixed with Opeila and Sylvie’s violin? Anyone walking by the music room would find a rather delightful sound, rich and deep. Rafael found that he could find an ounce of solace in the sound, humming quietly along with the progression of the music.

He found himself singing during the third verse of the song, clear notes trailing from his throat –

When we finally kiss goodnight,
How I'll hate going out in the storm~
But, if you really hold me tight,
All the way home I'll be warm~

It felt a bit good, getting that off his chest. In a small way, he felt as if he had faced his reservations in showing his voice to the girls. A part of him was still reluctant, reserved towards showing them any more of his musical talent – it was embarrassing, him being the tough, danger-prone fellow that he was! On the other hand, though, he felt as if a door had been opened, freeing something inside him he never realized he was hiding. The feeling brought him a bright smile, relieving a great deal of the stress in his shoulders and melting any worry like snow on a hot summer day. He didn’t have to hide anymore – at least, not as much. Not at the moment. His fingers flying over the keys gracefully, he knew that his fears would come back to haunt him eventually. But not today. As of the moment, he was relieved of another shackle on his being. It felt good, revealing himself in a small way – as long as no one else found out.

Katrina felt a huge smile trace her face. It sounded perfect. The piano sounded rich and intricate. Rafe was doing a fantastic job, and Katrina was glad he was for this was the only Christmas song she could play well. The two girls (who's name Katrina didn't catch) were adding so much to the music with their violins.

Finally, after what seemed to be hours, but Katrina was sure was only a second or two. People joined in. First was a rather timid voice. Soon another voice chimed in. Rafe joined as well with a clear voice. The four sang together and it fell in place delicately.

"The fire is slowly dying,
And my dear, we're still good-by-ing.
But, as long as you love me so,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
"

Katrina began to feel the Christmas swirling around them. Memories of her parents and her brother flooded their mind. It was a late December evening and mom had just finished dinner. Liam and Katrina were putting the gingerbread in the oven when Let it Snow come on, on the radio. They sang their hearts out while it cooked. It reminded her of another time with just her dad. It was after school and snow had just begun falling. Dad began an impromptu karaoke match as soon as she got home. They sang for almost an hour. Katrina never realized her dad had such a good voice.

Katrina continued playing, feeling all of her emotions come out through the music.

Opeila was happy, even though the violin felt terribly wrong in her hands. She was told before not to get too attached to certain things and she had thought that the person was silly. Well. Now he was proven right. The Slytherin missed her violin a lot.

Still, she was almost looking forward to Christmas now. She wouldn't be alone, would she? There were other people staying in Hogwarts who she could spend the days with.
If one thing was sure, then that she would refuse to go home. What was waiting for her, except a father who still felt personally offended because she chose to go to Hogwarts instead of muggle secondary school and a mother, who felt personally offended because she was sorted into Slytherin? Nothing. No, she would have a truly magical Christmas here.
Opeila smiled as she played the last few notes and then carefully put down the violin. She had really enjoyed those few minutes of pure Christmas feeling. "Thank you for that. That was great!" She walked over to the door. "Let's do it again soon!" And then she left.
Now, she was really looking forwards to Christmas. What had she been scared of again?
