"Yes, I uh, find writing with quills more formal I suppose. I don't think I've ever actually used a pen or a pencil. If you ever want I have more bottles of ink and quills if you ever want to try one out." Lucien said with a smile. The girl smiled happily before asking which boot she would need. Lucien wasn't 100% sure but her figured it was the book on the top due to the title. "I believe we are supposed to use The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self Protection. I don't think we need the others but I'm not too sure, I brought almost everything except the books for potions, and herbology." He said with a slight laugh. Even though he was a pure blood that was one of the few things he didn't actually know. "So what do you think of Hogwarts and the wizarding world so far?" Anything you're looking forwards too?" He asked while taking off his glasses to clean them off a bit. Since she was knew she probably didn't have a lot of knowledge of magic other than the time she had been at Hogwarts. Considering she didn't know there was evil magic, Lucien came to the conclusion that she had only found about magic recently.

"I love it!" she exclaimed, her eyes shining, "Hogwarts is so big and amazing, it feels like magic," she said, smiling.

"The stairs a-and the great hall! Oh! and the common rooms!" she looked excited, "It's all amazing and magical, way more magical than I could have ever hoped." she sighed and cupped her cheeks. "I love it here honestly." she grinned and opened her copy of 'The Dark Forces.

She seemed intrigued by the contents. Her face in awe from what was in the book. "This looks soooo cool!" she mused picking up the book and reading through it with a curious look.

She read over the first page, her eyes flicking over the words, digesting them. Her face was quite close to the pages, her fingers gripping the cover as she read over the page. Was it really that interesting, she even got quite distracted by the pictures on the page, she had to flick through more pages to see them all. It had somehow become an obsession in the course of one minute, possibly a new record for literally anyone, although chances were she had become obsessed with something in a shorter amount of time. She was so engrossed in the book she barely noticed Lucien speaking to her

Maeve burst into the class five minutes after it started. "I'm so, so sorry, Professor, I got lost, and my bro-bro-brother was no help and I..." She trailed off, her cheeks flaming. She had stuttered again! First in the Great Hall, and then in Potions, and now in here. In front of everyone. And her brother had said it was getting better! The dirty liar.

She went to find a seat and found the only one open, next to a Slytherin boy and a Hufflepuff girl who were chatting happily. "May I sit he-here?" She asked softly, avoiding their eyes carefully. She was doomed to stutter forever, it seemed. It made social situations all the more difficult for the young intorvert.

Maeve gently set her books down. She thought someone had answered, but hadn't heard them. She was too absorbed in her own thoughts. Maeve pulled out her quill, inkwell, and parchment and began writing the notes on the chalkboard quickly. She hoped she hadn't missed too much.

She didn't bother to introduce herself. Maeve new that the other Slytherin probably knew who she was by her looks. She looked like any other Turner, except for her Slytherin robes. She had hoped to be in Ravenclaw, like the rest of her family, but alas, the Sorting Hat had not been in her favor.

Lucien watched as Harley got really into her book, she seemed extremely excited about magic, but then again who wouldn't be excited! A blonde haired girl burst through the door stuttering. She later asked to sit beside him and Harley. "Yeah, of course I don't mind, I don't even think Harley is paying attention." He said laughing a bit. He noticed she was also in Slytherin, he believed her name started with an M. He knew her last name though, she was one of the Turners. He almost wondered if he should introduce himself. Maybe she sat beside him because she didn't know he was an Escanora, or maybe she just didn't want to sit on the floor to avoid him like most people did, because who in their right mind would sit beside an Escanora. The heterochromiatic boy turned around towards her. "I'm Lucien Escanora, not sure if you've heard of my insane family in the papers. You're a Turner right? Maeve Turner? It's nice to meet you." He asked tilting his head slightly so that his hair would cover his blue eye. He wanted to be sure he hadn't mixed up someone's name, he had a bad habit of doing that.

"Oh, yeah. Turner. The Ravenclaw ones." Maeve murmured distantly. She knew the Escanora name very well, her mother ranted on and on about them and their dark arts. It usually ended with something like, "Dirty dark arts Slytherin scum!" It made Maeve wonder how her mother was going to react to her Sorting.

She knew her father wouldn't care. In fact, he'd probably be thrilled. To him, Slytherin probably meant she'd be a potions master like him. She had no intention of doing that, though. She wanted to go into Magical Zoology. To her, animals were much, much better than people.

People talked. Maeve hated talking. It just brought back her stupid stutter. But, she couldn't do anything about it. If she cured it magically, her mother would wring her throat. Maeve just had to deal with it.

She was lonely at Hogwarts, though. At home, she had her Hippogriffs, her bowtruckles, her niffler, and her kneazle. Each of her pets had names and very special routines. Now, they were all messed up due to Maeve's parents forcing her to come to Hogwarts. They hadn't even let her take her kneazle, Glaedr, with her, so she was basically alone.

He noticed her short quick response and began to wonder if she saw him as every other Escanora, evil. Lucien smiled at the girl trying to seem as nice as he could. Most people assumed he was like the rest of his psychotic family so he did his best to show he wasn't like them. "So, um, are you excited for any classes so far? I'm personally excited for potions, and uh, herbology" He asked curiously mentally cursing his shyness that caused him to constantly say uh or uhm. If he talked overly fast he could get rid of the awkward pauses but frankly talking fast confused people and himself. "I apologise if I'm being nosy or anythin' I have a bad habit of being nosy." Despite how quiet he normally was he somehow always wound up intruding in people's personal lives. He looked over towards Harley who seemed too into her book to actually join in the conversation. She was lucky, she didn't have to worry about pure-blood family conflicts or stupid pure-blood politics. He wondered if he could convince his father to make a law against pure-blood beliefs. He shook his head assuming that wasn't possible. After all too many pure-blood vauled those beliefs including his Aunt and Uncle.

"'M excited for Care of Ma-Ma-Magical creatures." Maeve murmured, completely ignoring the fact that she had stuttered. Sure, this boy was an Escanora, and sure, he'd probably enjoy laughing at her later, but she didn't want to give him that satisfaction. Her mother had told her to stay away from Lucien. The Escanoras were definitely rivals of the Turners.

"If you're into the Dark Arts, please leave me along. If not, well, I'd lo-love a chance to rebel against my mother. She despises the Escanora name. Something about Dark Arts and a goat. Like, a goat prank during her time at Hogwarts. I don't really understand." Maeve huffed quickly.

She really did want to make friends, but choosing the rights ones was the problem. Maeve was a master at wrong judgement, and knew that that could be her downfall here at this magical school. If she was cautious, maybe she could stay out of trouble during her first year. Next year, though, she'd definitely want to pull some pranks. If she stayed out of trouble this year, maybe next year she could bring Glaedr to Hogwarts. She missed the kneazle terribly. He was definitely her support system, which did seem a bit crazy.

Lucien's smile dropped at the mention of Dark Arts. He knew more than he should have about them due to his family. "I'm not like most of my family. I hate the Dark Arts. I'd rather spend my time working on cures for things. The, um, goat prank was probably my Father, he was big on pranks during his year, he, uh, he still is really." He stated simply. Lucien rested his head on his hand in boredom. He wondered if most people stereotyped him to be just like his Aunt and Uncle. His Mother and Father had never truly been into the Dark Arts, neither of them really liked it. His father had stayed away from it, so Lucien could as well right? Lucien wondered if he should just change his last name to avoid being like his family. "The Escanora's are, um, usually hated or adored so I'm not really surprised your mum doesn't like us. Maybe I could prove her wrong ya know. My mum was a great person, my father was, uh well...a bit of a prankster but ended up being a minster. My Aunt and Uncle are just evil. My sister can't control her anger most of the time because she has Schizophrenia, my younger brother is a mini psychopath in the making due to my Aunt and Uncle. I'm sure we aren't as bad as your mother insists. There's only, um, 2 terrible people actually alive in my family." He wasn't quite sure why he bothered to tell her, maybe he hoped that she would see it was more of the Haven side that was wretched.

Maeve sighed. "I didn't mean to make you unco-uncom-uncomfortable." She said softly, wincing at the stutter. Stupid large words always messed her up. Public speaking was a nightmare.

"I just want to try and shield myself from bad things. I have terrible judge-judgement. My mother says it'll be my downfall. Father says it doesn't matter, I'll grow out of it." She said softly. "Let's start over."

Maeve turned to him and held out her hand. "I'm Maeve Turner. I hope we can be friends. Good friends." She grabbed Lucien's and shook it quickly. "And you are...?" She teased, a bright smile playing on her lips.

Lucien seemed like he would be a great friend and ally for her time in Hogwarts. She wouldn't have to be so lonely anymore with him around. "This may sound... strange... but I've ne-never had a friend before..." She said softly. "So, I'm a bit new to this... I know all about friendship from stories and such, but it never seemed app-app-appealing. Too messy. Y'know?" Maeve was rambling. When she realized this, her cheeks lit up in a bright blush. "Oh, Merlin, I'm sorry Lucien. I'm rambling. Ag-ag-again..." She laughed softly.

Lucien listened as Maeve spoke, she seemed like a nice girl, then again he had never actually talked to many people so he was as lost as she was. When she shook his hand his eyes widened quite a bit, handshakes led to germs and germs gave sicknesses. "I'm Lucien Escanora." He said qith a slight laugh. When his hand was free he immediately took hand sanitizer out of his bag and poured a generous amount on both hands, he couldn't risk getting sick. "Sorry, I probably seem rude, I'm a really really big germaphobe. Anyways, I've never really had a friend either, not a true one at least. It's nice to have one. Don't worry about rambling, I have a tendency to ramble about useless facts that no one cares about pretty often." He said smiling. It was almost nostalgic. He recalled the first time he had made a "friend." Amai, that was the girl's name. They had been really close in school when Lucien was 9. She ended up hanging out with people that used to make fun of him for his family and his eyes, she even joined in on it. After that, she never stopped. Lucien started isolating himself from anyone and everyone, including his family, and even his cousin who he was close to, he stopped talking to anyone. It got to the point where he ended up being home-schooled the next year until he got his letter from Hogwarts. He hoped Maeve wouldn't do the same thing that Amai did. The black haired boy wondered what would happen if Maeve did the same thing, would he go silent again? What if he had to leave school due to it? He shook his head, Maeve was different she was nicer than Amai.
