Fingers Crossed PV COMPLETED

Rafa listen to Gem’s ideas with increasing interest. He’d heard of some of the places Gem mentioned – he hadn’t been to either of them. (His parents had done his shopping all for him at Diagon Alley, not really wanting him out of the house or anything. And the Leaky Cauldron was the same deal.) Rafa chewed his lip in thought. Both of those options sounded pretty interesting in and of itself.

But at the same time, Rafa had been looking forward to hearing Gem play for him for a long time. He figured, if everything about him was so amazing, then why not his playing? Plus, his dad was a Rockstar and all – still not sure if he’d heard him or not, but he was leaning towards the former. That meant he definitely had some experience around music.

Though, the more he thought about it, the more he really didn’t want to choose. He just wanted to hang out with Gem, and whether it was in a nice cushy place or the middle of the Arctic, he didn’t mind one bit. He took another piece of bark, and threw it in the water, watching the ripples, not really even paying attention. He was just thinking about Gem. He really wanted to see him smile again, or something. He noticed the gentle squeeze Gem gave his hand, and happily squeezed it back, bringing his legs closer to himself instinctively. Yeah, whatever Gem wanted to do, he was up for.

“What do you wanna do, man?” he asked. He really didn’t want to do anything Gem didn’t want to do. “I’m up for whatever, as long as you’re up for it, too.”

Gem never had a right grip on being the one to take control, he felt like that should've been instinctual, but... if Rafa was truly okay with whatever, then -

"I guess we'll go ta the leaky cauldron, then," He thought aloud, "and then... we can come here, an' joost... do whatever, y'know? Whatever." He sat quietly, feeling another, less thoughtful, smile come on his face. "Cool. Cool, we can do that."

He sat thinking now, mostly because he was consumed with a type of happiness he couldn't put into proper words. He found that he often had something very good happen, so good that he couldn't comprehend, and then he became a piece of matter that had carried along without a brain. He couldn't speak like he normally could unless he forced himself to, and even then... what was that supposed to mean? He didn't have a brain to force himself to do anything. He didn't know what any of that meant. He couldn't ever really unpack his own string of thought whenever he was in a state such as this one.

He liked Rafael. He had the biggest crush on him, so much so that he guessed he couldn't stop staring at him like he were a golden egg laid by a goose made of glass, the rarest white wine, and the philosopher's stone, shattered and shined, placed together so precisely that it was a travesty. It must've been too obvious, so he managed to stare down at the ground, focusing on all the pieces of grass that were longer than the ones next to them.

"How's... Friday? Right after Transfiguration, aye? Meet me out there, right? Right. Okay." Gem was sort of out of breath at that point, though he wasn't so sure why. He swallowed, leaning over to kiss Rafa right on the cheek, hurrying down the tree (ended up getting a hole in his sweater, too). He'd never done something that ambitious, if it could even be considered that.

"Bye, Rafa! I'll see ya in class!" He hollered, scuttling off back to his dorm. He couldn't wait to tell James about this.

What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.

Rafa was having a pretty hard time paying attention, now. He was just really distracted. Gem had this thoughtful face about him, that Rafa could not get his eyes off. It just made his heart beat a little faster, his grin ever-widening. He saw Gem’s lips move, but really wasn’t focused on the words that he was saying all that well. "I guess we'll go ta the leaky cauldron, then," Gem said, "and then... we can come here, an' joost... do whatever, y'know? Whatever." It took a moment for Rafa to understand exactly what Gem was saying. It enraged him that he couldn’t focus on Gem and his words at the same time. A smile was growing on the other boy’s face, and damn if it weren’t the most important thing in the world right now.

Rafa pushed his hair out of his face a little to get a better look at his friend. Gem really got him going – he didn’t know what it was about him. At first, he thought it was his deep, brown eyes. Then he thought it was his mannerisms – all kindhearted and helpful. Then he thought it was his messy nature, the way he kept himself messy and made it look good. Whatever it was, it made Rafa want to be around him all the time. It was a really hard feeling to describe, but it was there. Realizing he hadn’t said anything, he finally said, “Yeah, man. That sounds great.”

He leaned back on the tree trunk, Gem’s hand comfortably in his, watching the ripples of the lake. There was a silence around them, but it was enjoyable. His thoughts were still bouncing around his head in Spanish, but he didn’t care. It was funny, because now his mind was clearer than it had been in a long time. He felt pretty peaceful as of the moment.

"How's... Friday? Right after Transfiguration, aye?” he heard Gem say, startling him out of his thoughts. “Meet me out there, right? Right. Okay." Rafa didn’t get much time to answer, as Gem quickly gave him a little kiss on the cheek, and slid down the tree like the devil was after him. "Bye, Rafa! I'll see ya in class!" he called over his shoulder.

Honestly, Rafa was a bit shocked. He couldn’t believe Gem had kissed his on the cheek. He felt his face, wondering if it had actually happened – It was then he noticed how hot his face was. “Mierda,” he muttered quietly, pushing his hair back again. He could feel a massive grin coming on, and gladly welcomed it, an absolutely elated feeling washing over him. Wow, he hadn’t felt this good in a while. He didn’t think anyone could bring him down – Jo Morgan, Brielle Gray. Not even Saoirse Dwight.

He knew he would be counting the days until Friday.
