"Uh, I started learning with my aunt." He tells the other, with a simple shrug. "Sort of." He hasn't learned much, of course, as he had started just a few months ago and because Naomi isn't a very good teacher — she mostly tells stories and jokes, and Virgil understands the overall idea of what she's saying.
"She's been living there for a while now and she speaks French to me whenever she visits," He adds, feeling like he should explain. "But she doesn't actually teach me any grammar or pronunciation — she loves it when I say something wrong. She thinks it's cute or whatever." Virge rolls his eyes, sounding dead.
Not that he minds Naomi's affection — he loves it, actually — but it can be rather annoying to be crushed into hugs and being called 'adorable little baby' several times a day for doing mundane tasks such as setting the table and even brushing his teeth. He remembers how, once, she basically attacked him with kisses when she saw him drawing on his magical sketchbook.
Virgil huffs, running his fingers through his dark hair, "I try reading books and listening to music, and I've been trying to find basic French books, but I can't find any in wizarding ones and I don't know many muggle bookstores."

The blonde Frenchie listened to his story and his reasons as politely as possible, not interrupting to ask questions as he probably would have done otherwise. Instead, he saved all of his questions until afterwards though at that point a majority of them had already been answered.
"Hm...Well, I have a good many books that you could use to practice if you want. And on one side of the page, the explanations are in English to aid you with learning for the other side. So, on one page, you have it in French explaining everything you need to know about conjugation for a particular word, or the grammar, and then the other side says the same thing in English if you need a bit more help. And the back of the book has several pages with step-by-step examples and review questions with the answer on a different page so that you can check if you got it right."
Chezem smiled at him and stood up. "Would you maybe like to take a look at them to see if they might be helpful? And if they are, if you need more help, I'm always here." He said a bit sardonically. It was a boarding school, he was there till the end of the term.

Not being able to contain his happiness, he blushes when he sounds a bit louder than before. Virgil looks down, running his hands through his hair, face burning a little. He hopes Chezem doesn't mind or think that he's ridiculous. Finally!, he thinks, smiling to himself. He's been interested in that language for so long, and now he finally gets the chance to properly learn it.
Virgil waits for Chezem to take him, and looking down at his hands, he says, "Thank you, by the way..." He shrugs, trying to downplay his excitement, but says, contradicting his actions, "This is, uh, kind of really important to me."
Again, he avoids staring at the other, not wanting to look even more silly. Eyes glued to the long shelves, analyzing the books covered in dust. Virgil sighs and bites his lower lip. "So, really, thank you."
