Kaegen didn't respond. The slytherin had been just fine a second ago. He must not like talking about the sorting. Kaegen had heard rumors about kids not liking the house they were in and complaining. He certainly wasn't one to be helping the slytherin out with something like this, so he just sunk deeper into his thoughts. He found a branch on a tree, broke it off and reached inside of his sleeve.
He had strapped a small, beautiful knife to his arm, it shone like a moonbeam and the handle was carved beautifully. He started carving the wood, small slivers falling onto the ground. If he messed up the conversation, then he could just sit here, carve this wood and hum. It was a past time he loved, and had become decent at over the years. He wasn't a master, his carvings always turned out rough. But you really couldn't expect masterpieces from someone so young. It would come in time, grandfather had always said. Kaegen loved carving because he seldom knew what he was carving. He would just carve, until it became something. Then he would modify it, make it as smooth as he could.
It was always a surprise to see what came out at the end. This was going to be interesting.

Noticing Kaegan take out the knife, he cast a glance at him, watching as he began to delicately carve into a piece of wood. He just carried that knife around all the time? That could be dangerous, but also helpful for self-defense. In general, it didn't bother Lance, but really, who carries around a knife in their sleeve all day? "What are you carving?" he asked quietly, partly because he was curious and partly because he wanted to start a conversation. It was awkward in silence. The girl seemed engulfed in her thoughts and Lancelot didn't really want to just leave them, and being completely honest, he didn't feel comfortable leaving her with the boy that had a knife out right in front of them. Not that he thought Kaegan was a bad person, really. But you never know. So Lancelot crossed his arms, watching the knife glide across the wood elegantly, hearing the scraping sound of the shavings being ripped off. It was actually quite calming. He did wonder how a knife was allowed on Hogwarts grounds though, considering the fact that it would be a danger to other students, but Lance didn't mind, as long as Kaegan was careful.

As of yet, no professor had noticed the knife. It wasn't carried around openly, since the train, and it was strapped tightly to his arm. He wasn't trying to hide it, really. But rather keep it safe. And he didn't want too many people looking at it. If he had to give up his life or the blade, he'd probably pick his life. He wouldn't have started carving but he didn't know what else to do, and it wasn't like the girl was paying attention. It was just the slytherin.
"I don't know yet." Kaegen kept carving, it was starting to look like a skinny dragon. It had big wings, or fins. And a long, slender curling body. He kept taking more off of the body of the dragon, until it looked more like a snake with wings, flying skywards. The feathers were a bit off, and the scales weren't exactly detailed. But before too long, Kaegen was finished. It had turned into a snake with wings. The snake was fanged, and looking up. About to take flight, and soar into the sky. It made sense, in a way. Kaegen often carved what he was thinking about at the time. He passed it over the girl, to the slytherin boy. It made sense for him to have it. Kaegen could always make another.
