"So it's true! Aha!" Millie laughed triumphantly. It was true though, Carson and Charlotte did make a rather adorable couple. The thought of her and Lallie being a couple made the butterflies in her stomach fly around.

As everyone began conversing about Hogwarts Hottest CoupleTM Millie looked over to the cauldrons and wax. She closed her eyes and began thinking about cool combinations of smells and colors. Thuja was always a really nice smell, and maybe Sweetgrass, which always gave her a faint reminder of America. Or perhaps Frankincense and Myrrh, but she thought then the classroom would smell like lemony wood.

On second thought, that probably didn't smell that bad.

She opened her eyes when the sound of footsteps entered the classroom. Millie gave a small wave to Sylvie as she came in. She adjusted her socks and stood up, yawning and stretching. The gossip from Maggie was overbearing, but hopefully it would throw the girl off of Millie's tail. She didn't really want to talk about her confusions on her sexuality and shit. And when she did, it was mostly going to be with a teacher- or someone she trusted. She didn't know who she trusted yet, but hopefully she'd find out soon.

Not that talking about Lallie was a bad thing. Just maybe not with Maggie, who could totally spill Millie's feelings to her crush. That was a scenario she hoped would never happen. Because if she was ever going to tell Lallie her feelings, it would be on her own time. Not forced by someone else.

Taking a break from her thoughts, Millie motioned over to the cauldrons. "So, are we making candles or what?" She asked aloud, hopefully breaking apart the gossiping mess that was causing her an existential crisis. "Wait, do you guys know how to make candles?" Shooting a glance over to the four, Millie took in the scent of the herbs. She grinned lightly. This was going to be super fun!

Even if she did get a non-funding existential crisis like four times along the way.

Charlotte was looking around the room to see if anything would give them indications on how to make those candles, as she had never made candles in her life before. Sitting cross-legged, she looked behind her and rapidly turned around at the sound of footsteps only getting louder and louder. Only a few seconds later and Sylvie Maple was rushing through the door herself, completing the candlemaking group that was yet to make candles. Charlotte smiled at the sight of her friend and waved slightly, at least she wasn't the only one being late today. At this time of the year, everything seemed to be rushed, having hardly enough time during the day to complete everything she had planned and it was getting quite frustrating. Turning back to the group as her eyes followed the girl, she drew her attention back to the cauldrons.

"So, are we making candles or what? Wait, do you guys know how to make candles?"
Millie asked.

Well, not really. Charlotte had seen her aunt make some, but the memory now seemed to be rather blurry and all she could remember was her wand going up and down, repeatedly. That was it, they had to dip the wick in the hot wax and wait for it to layer gradually. Or at least she thought it was the way to do it. Clearing her throat and brandishing her wand in front of her, she looked at her friends with a I-don't-quite-know-what-I'm-doing-face.

'If my memory serves me right, you have to take the wick and dip it into the hot wax, lift it up and start again until a full candle is made. Let me try...'
she said as she shifted in her seat.

Now, the important thing to do was to pay attention not to burn herself as Carson had done just a few moments earlier. For that, what better way than to just use magic. Clearing her throat once more, she placed her wand in front of the pile of wicks and swiftly moved her wand in the air. The wick flew in front of her and accompanied with the movement of her wand, dived right into the cauldron. It dived completely in the cauldron. Not focusing enough on when to stop, she had dipped the entirety of the wick in the hot wax. Biting her lip, she lifted her wand once more and revealed the wax-covered wick.

'It's supposed to go something like that, just don't dip all of it in obviously'
she said as she sighed, followed closely by a few laughs.

She started again and managed to do it just the way she wanted, leaving just the tip untouched. Smiling proudly, she dipped it in again as she watched the wax layer up in quite a hypnotising manner.

'Like that'
she said grinning.

“Knew it!” Maggie exclaimed, clapping her hands together at the announcement. She was happy for her cousin, and her best friend. They were good for eachother, she could tell.

Maggie watched, completely impressed, as Charlotte demonstrated. She cast some sort of charm, one Maggie had no clue existed. Yeah, Charlotte was a bit of a Charms prodigy.

“Woah, woah.” Maggie joked, “We get it, Char— you’re a Charms expert. Watch this, though.”

Maggie took a string, getting onto her knees as she knelt over the cauldron. Slowly, and carefully, she dipped the stick into the burning wax. She was hyper-focused, so she wouldn’t burn herself.

The wind outside rattled the windows, and suddenly, one flew wide open, sending a cold blast of air into the room. Maggie yelped, accidentally putting her hand down, right into the wax.

“Motherfucker!” she exclaimed, immediately withdrawing her hand and getting up from her position. She shook her hand feverently trying to get the wax off, splattering it all over the room in the process of doing so.

She ran over to the window, sticking her hand out of it and into the freezing air. She could feel the wax quickly drying, flaking and falling off her arm. She hissed once more, the cold air nipping at her skin. It was like a battle of warm and cold in her body, causing Maggie’s teeth to chatter and hands to sweat simultaneously.

“I’m gonna go to the nurse!” Maggie smiled through gritted teeth, bolting out of the door and running down the steps. Sure, she found the whole situation rather comical, as she was now racing down the halls of Hogwarts, at midnight, with her hand looking like a giant candle, but damn, that shit hurt.

She realized she’d left her bag up in the Ancient Runes classroom as she entered the Hospital Wing, but she was a bit preoccupied at the moment. Maybe someone would grab it for her and give it to her tomorrow.

Carson watched as Charlotte demonstrated how to make candles, Maggie voicing his exact thoughts as she jokingly told Charlotte they all knew she was a Charms master.

“This should be good.” Carson stated dryly, watching as Maggie tried to show off her candle-making skills. He put his hands behind him, leaning back into his palms as he watched his best friend in amusement.

He supposed he should probably be in a better posistion— one he could easily get up from if, okay, when she ended up hurting herself. Maggie really was your stereotypical Gryffindor, huh? He could see how some of his friends would belong in different houses, like how Millie could be a nice fit for Hufflepuff, or how Sylvie could be a proper Ravenclaw, but Maggie was a Gryffindor through and through. Charlotte was a nice fit for Hufflepuff, but Carson could definitely see her in Ravenclaw.

As predicted, Maggie hurt herself, and Carson couldn’t help but laugh. She looked ridiculous— hurt and ridiculous. As soon as she dumped her hand into the wax, Carson jumped up from his sitting posistion, helping her up.

He shook his head, wrapping her non-wax arm around his shoulder as he walked her out of the room, leaving the others behind.

“You’re a bloddy idiot, Mags.” He laughed, unable to stop himself as they bolted down the hallway. “This’ll be one for the books.”

It was true— Maggie had hurt herself doing stupid shit more times than Carson could remember. More than once through Balance Battle, but through other stuff as well. Again, a total Gryffindor stereotype.

Charlotte watched confused as her cousin rapidly stood up and ran towards the window, trying to cool off her wax-covered hand. Her first thought was that unfortunately, she did not know any spell that could help her at this very moment quickly followed up with the fact that she had to go to the infirmary. Carson had got to his feet much faster than her, wrapping her arm around his shoulder. For a moment, she wondered if her presence was really needed before sitting back down knowing she was already in between good hands.

Anxiously looking around the room, she bit her lip before sighing loudly. She hoped Maggie wasn't too hurt but she knew the nurse would fix and heal it in no-time.

'I'm gonna stay and make a few candles, but you guys can go with Maggie'
she said as her eyes darted between both of the remaining girls.

They had quite a few candles to make, and Charlotte didn't want them to stay up too late doing this tedious task, but she knew her friends would maybe like to accompany Maggie and Carson down to the infirmary. Waving her wand, she watched as another wick rose into the air before graciously dipping itself into the hot wax, over and over again as Charlotte waved her wand up and down, realising this would take longer than expected. Fortunately, after a few minutes, the candle began to form right before her eyes, becoming satisfyingly thicker and thicker before her delicately set it on the tray. The smile on her face soon faded as she realised that she had quite a few still to do.

As Maggie began to make a candle, Millie thought that her friend knew what she was doing. But this was Maggie, and Maggie was not the most... precise, person. She wasn't that shocked when Maggie ferociously burned her hand on the steaming wax. Millie quickly went through her head, trying to think of a spell to undo the burning, but nothing came up. Maybe the bubble-producing spell? But the golden bubbles probably weren't made of water...

Carson and Charlotte both hopped up to help Maggie get to the infirmary, but Millie knew that she would need to finish the candles for the rest of the group. Charlotte quickly sat back down after it became obvious that only Carson would be needed for this specific expedition. She smiled lightly, trying to think of a quicker way to get all the candles done, but was rather disappointed when her mind came up with nothing but candy.

As the two left, Millie realized Maggie had left her bag, and walked over to get it. "I'll stay here with you, these candles won't make themselves!" She joked, putting Maggie's bag next to her own. She walked over to Charlotte and smiled, rather curious. "What are you doing, out of curiosity?" She asked, tilting her head and smiling.

She definitely didn't think of herself as someone who could do any real spells, despite Meenauh proving her wrong, she still would rather do things by hand. Her mother had always taught her to do things the "Muggle way" if she ever felt nervous in using her magical abilities. It was obvious that Charlotte was probably experienced, so if she did anything wrong, hopefully Charlotte knew what to do to unfix her mistakes, which happened a lot.

Which is pretty worrying, to say the least.
