The gardening work was repetitive, but it was easy enough. The colorful flowers brightened up the space and gave off a sweet fragrance. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see Mac working on the other side of the greenhouse. He inspected the tomato plants as he harvested the fruit, probably flawless as they were- at least that's how she assumed they would be, at a magical school and all.

But Tatiana had forgotten her headphones, and because of this, was acutely aware of the silence that immediately filled the room after Maggie departed. Having only just met the boy, she hesitated to say anything, as she was very poorly when it came to small talk. But after a brief moment, he took the initiative and spoke up. "So... Tatiana, are you staying for the summer?" he asked, picking tomatoes from the plant and placing them one at a time into the basket.

"Uhm," she started, trailing off. As of that very minute, she wasn't entirely sure she knew a definite answer to that question. She'd already owled home to inform her parents she wasn't leaving immediately after the term ended, but she hadn't yet decided if she was indeed leaving at all. She was really enjoying studying ahead and catching up on the wizarding world knowledge that other students had already known most of their lives. "I... think? I might catch one of the last trains back, but I also might just stay the rest of the holiday here. I suppose I'll have to decide soon," she shrugged, patting the dirt around her last batch of flowers. She stood up and brushed off the dirt that had accumulated on her knees. "What about you?"

Maggie strode out of the broom shack, slightly stuggling with the weight of the watering can strapped to her back. As she leant back slightly from the weight, a small amount of water splashed out onto the lush green grass. She held a broom in her hand, and, though it was old and slow, it was an actual, functioning, broom! She swung one leg over the stick, gripped the handle, and tilted it up slightly so that she was floating a few inches above the ground. A wicked grin spread across her face, and she was zipping through the air, though low to the ground, in a matter of seconds. She threw her head back and laughed loudly, cheering a whooping as if she was on a rollercoaster. Her hair tumbled out of the ponytail it’d been in seconds before as she whizzed past the lakeside, slowing down once she saw the obviously planted, but still pretty, rows of flowers. She touched down to the ground, stumbling a little, and unstrapped the watering can from her back. She watered the plants around her, though she thought it’d be a much more efficient process if she had a hose, and stopped when the watering can was much lighter. She got back onto her broom, still holding the watering can in one hand, and, albeit a little less steadily and a lot less quickly, flew over the rows of flowers, watering can in hand as she sprinkled water on them from the air. When she’d finally finished, though the process took about fifteen minutes, she strapped the van back onto her back and shot back to the greenhouse. Her hair a mess, her shirt somewhat soaked, a watering can strapped to her back and a broom in her arm, she was sure she looked a right mess when she entered the greenhouse. “What about you?” Tatiana asked Mac, and Maggie felt a rush of pride when she saw that they were getting along. She knew they’d be friends! “I’m going to be catching the first train out of this place!” Maggie said with a smirk.

Before he could answer, Maggie made her way inside, announcing her presence with, “I’m going to be catching the first train out of this place!”

"Eager to go home?" he asked with a small smile as he finished up with the tomatoes. He set the basket of fruit aside, before making his way over to the table to retrieve another for the green beans. Putting them in the same basket would be just plain barbaric. "I don't know if I'll stay the entire summer, but I think I'll stay for a little while, at least. I know I won't be taking the first train out, though..." The students that grew up in wizarding families really didn't know how lucky they had it, being around magic their entire lives. There were many things that Mac still didn't know, yet seemed to be common knowledge to those who'd been born into it.

One by one, he plucked the beans off their stems, laying them down neatly in the wicker basket. He would go on to repeat this process until all the baskets were full of produce, ready to be brought back to the kitchen. He smiled to himself as he admired his handiwork, then slipped off the old worn-in gloves, returning them to their rightful place on the table.

What he didn't mention was how eager he was to explore the castle - or more specifically, the little nooks and crannies that the public was off limits to. He imagined it'd be much easier to sneak around over the summer while most of the staff had clocked out and gone home. He'd always wanted to see those forbidden books in the library...

Tatiana was cleaning as she went, stacking the now empty planters on top of one another as she finished with them. The garden boxes were bursting with flowers and she was surprised by how quickly she was able to finish. Turns out divvying out the tasks amongst the three of them had proved to make quick of the work. By this time, Mac had moved on from the tomato plants and started plucking the green beans into a new basket.

Before he had a chance to respond with his own plans for the summer, Maggie came bursting through the doors, hair frazzled and broom in hand. Ahhhh, to fly, Tatiana thought to herself, laughing. The request made so much more sense now. And turns out her plan had worked, as she was finished watering the plants around the lake and the greenhouse in a flash. The girl was exclaiming about how excited she was to be returning home on the first train available, her eagerness showing all over her smirking face.

"Eager to go home?" Mac asked her, obviously sharing in the amusement of her sudden outburst. "I don't know if I'll stay the entire summer, but I think I'll stay for a little while, at least. I know I won't be taking the first train out, though..." he added, trailing off. That was comforting to know. Tatiana was nervous she would be stuck alone in an empty castle the rest of the break. Not that she minded all that much, as she'd most likely have plenty to do, most of which she was perfectly capable of doing alone. But the new term seemed far away when she thought of being by herself all the time. Being able to confirm there was at least one other student staying the majority of the time gave her hope that there could be others as well. At the very least, her own common room would have one other soul walking around the next month or so.

"Maybe we could do some exploring," she offered, taking off her hat. It was humid in the greenhouse and sweat was forming on her forehead. "Plenty of the books I've been reading talk about secrets hiding in the castle, none of which I've yet to find," she laughed, honestly a little perturbed by the fact. "I mean, if that's something you think you'd be interested in."

“Maybe we could do some exploring,” Tatiana said, as a wicked grin spread across Maggie’s face. This was right up her alley. “Plenty of the books I’ve been reading talk about secrets hiding in the castle, none of which I’ve yet to find. I mean, if that’s something you’d be interested in.” Tatiana said, laughing lightly. “Of course I’m interested!” Maggie exclaimed, excitement running through her viens. “I’ve got like, two weeks left here,” she laughed, “Might as well have a good time, right?” Though Maggie was sad to be away from her family, she couldn’t pass up the opportunity for adventure, either. She’d found a few hidden passages and such, but her main goal was something much bigger: a way into Hogsmade. She’d heard that there was a passageway in the third floor corridor, but she’s yet to find it! Of course, there was always the statue and the Whomping Willow, but she doubted she’d ever go to the Whomping Willow, even if it was on a dare. “Do you guys want to try and find a way into Hogsmeade, for next year?”, Maggie asked, a grin spreading across her face. She’d been dying to go to Hogsmeade ever since she found out of its existence. The joke shops there were supposed to be legendary! She couldn’t wait to get there, and now was the perfect opportunity... first years weren’t really allowed into Hogsmeade, but now that it was summer, things could be a little different, right?

Mac smiled, bright and deceptively innocent as he leaned back against the table. He'd be lying if he said he hadn't considered it himself. Really, what first year hadn't, anyway? He'd already heard whispers around the school about the kids who'd managed to sneak in. In the very back of the gag shop at Diagon Alley, they sold fake permission slips. You had to know where to look for them, and they were quite pricey at five galleons a pop, but still. A few more paying jobs like this, and that wouldn't be a problem, would it?

Mac was never the sort of kid to get into trouble... but he was also never the sort of kid to get caught. Hogsmeade represented forbidden knowledge, and the boy was nothing if not curious. What was the harm of them sneaking off to see it, anyhow?

"They sell fake permission slips at Weasley's," he commented, his voice wistful and far away. "Not that I would ever do anything like that." Mac was full of it; he absolutely would, and he was certain that Maggie knew it, too. "In theory..." he started, putting emphasis on the word so the two of them would know that this was purely hypothetical. "If we could find a way into Hogsmeade... we'd be set with those permission slips, right? I feel like we could pass for third years, don't you?"

"I read in a book once that there's a secret passage somewhere in Hogwarts, but I've got no idea where," he said with a little sigh as he stood up straight, making his way over to the door of the greenhouse. The humidity was starting to get to him.

"Of course!" Tatiana replied to Maggie's suggestion about Hogsmeade, perhaps a little too quick and eagerly. She wasn't much for breaking rules, but if everyone did it, what harm could it be really? An adventure is exactly what she had been looking for anyway. And it seemed like such an exciting opportunity, she would be foolish to pass it up. And with her best friend and her new friend? No way, she was definitely going. She listened on with a grin as her and Mac discussed plans and propositions for sneaking in the next year, happy to have found even a small group of friends she could get into reasonable amounts of mischief with around the castle.

Gathering the last of the supplies up in her arms, she turned to the other two. "Well that's about it then, I'd say." The greenhouse was getting hotter by the minute and they'd all put in a lot of work around the grounds. "I'll take the rest of these things back to Professor Jensen and we can be off," she nodded, thanking them both for their help, as she noticed they seemed eager to get out of the heat as well. It wasn't only hot, but sweltering and incredibly humid. It was the hottest month of the summer and the greenhouse always had a fine mist on the plants. She couldn't wait to get out of there and straight into a shower. Stepping out the doors, they locked the greenhouse up behind them, their errand now complete.
They exit the thread.
