Duelling Beta Test Match 6 - Isaac vs Raine

Raine shook her wand hand when her spell connected with Isaac, almost as if she had just punched him instead of sending a muting spell at the boy. Now was her chance to do some damage. She knew what she wanted to cast on her opponent but it was a bit too harsh in her opinion. At least right now. There's no telling how she would retaliate when that tongue-tying spell wore off and he managed to land an attack. It wouldn't last long, Raine knew that much. She felt the power behind the spell when it left her wand and it was weak. She could have done better, but perhaps her heart wasn't truly into it as she wanted it to be.

Either way, she knew that right now was the time to attack. Just as Isaac managed to pull the blindfold off his eyes, Raine pointed her wand at the boy and shouted, "Rictusempra!"

The first-year Gryffindor could only hope that her spell didn't cause the boy to pee himself. She didn't want to embarrass him.

The second the blindfold fell off, red cloth drifting to the floor, Raine was already firing off another spell. A series of joyful screams erupted nearby, but he didn't focus on them; his eyes were fixated on the terrible beam of light seconds before impact. It hit him straight on, horrifyingly accurate. Alarmingly, he found that he felt nothing...at first.

But when Isaac tried to cast a counter-spell, he found he had no voice whatsoever. He moved his mouth, forming words, but all there was was silence. He pushed the panic out of his mind, as there was no time for fear. Raine was already planning what to do next. He had to move quickly.

The Gryffindor wasn't about to pretend that he could do wordless magic. Being a first-year, he had no clue how to do something like that. But what he did know was a sad, tried and true method.

It was time to start dashing around.

Relying on his agility and newly restored sight, he moved to try to dodge the spell as she cast it. His patterns were erratic, zig-zags and twists all across the dueling arena. Hopefully, the muting spell would wear off quickly so he could counter-attack, finally getting in a spell of his own. But for now, he could do nothing.

She wasn't going to lie, the Slytherin Perfect actually thought Sage would cast another counterspell. Luckily, that girl didn't, or this duel would last even longer, or maybe could be the longest one. Ambrose had to realize which situation he was in, or he wouldn't focus on dodging like this. When the spell almost hit the male lion, he tried to dodge it, which was why the spell just flew over his hair instead of hitting him. Lucky guy. She would feel poor for him if he wasn't able to dodge this spell as well.

Now, it seemed like everything came back from the start, both of the duellists weren't injured or affected by anything. How funny...

Leaping in the span of an instant, the spell missed Isaac by a single hair, close enough that he could feel the searing energy brush his head faintly. Landing on his feet like a cat, he was surprised to find that Mimblewimble - or whatever that spell was, had finally worn off. He laughed with manic energy; now it was time to strike back.

Readying his wand at Raine, he knew it was cheap, but he was going to turn the tables by taking a page out of her book. Pointing straight at her, he called out, "Obscuro!"

If this worked, in the matter of an instant, she would be the one blindfolded. And then, he'd have a chance to attack without her doing anything sly. He was already beginning to plan this next strike. Incendio was off, only because he didn't want to burn her alive. It didn't seem right. But perhaps something odd like Tarantallegra would weaken her.

Raine made a sound with her teeth as she watched Isaac run around like a damned chicken with its head cut off, zig-zagging all over the platform to avoid her attack. His luck seemed to be with him as he actually managed to miss being hit by her tickling spell, but that wouldn't stop her.

She heard the boy shoot off Obscuro at her, and Raine smirked. She was sure that her luck had run out. She was also sure that the boy's blindfold would most likely connect to her eyes and she'd be blinded, but she wasn't going to dodge. She was going to face this head on and pray her attack hit its target. She needed to end this duel soon, even if it was with a method of attack she didn't want to use.

I'm really sorry about this Isaac. she thought as she pointed her wand at the boy.

"Incendio Duo!" she shouted.

The round

Luna was only a little bit surprised when Ambrose decided to cast the Blindfold spell. It seemed like he wanted revenge, on Sage no less. It was understandable though, and it would help him in the next round if the spell succeeded with hitting Sage of course.

Talked about this girl, right when she realized which spell Ambrose decided to use, she didn't panic or anything. Luna's eyes started sparkling when she heard which spell Raine decided to cast. Finally, someone decided to attack instead of just blindfolding their opponent, amazing!

...Or not, she thought of that too fast.

Luna wasn't sure what was the problem, but only a small green light lighted upon the tip of Sage's wand, and then disappeared in one second. That was unfortunate but was this when Ambrose's luck started shining?

And once again, she made the same mistake. Ambrose's luck ended right when she thought it started. Maybe this wasn't Sage's intention since she only decided to attack her opponent, but her body quickly moved to the right when the spell was about to hit her. And of course, it failed.

Luna shrugged, now she started to accept that this duel would last even longer than what she expected. It was alright, maybe.

Raine narrowed her eyes at Isaac as the blindfold fell short. She was angry at herself for not focusing enough that her spell didn't connect. How weak must she be that the green light only sputtered out of her wand like a trickle of water? But she wasn't going to fail again. She needed to end this soon.

'Focus, Raine!' she chided herself.

Looking at the boy, she bit her lip. Using Incendio Duo was a risky move. She didn't want to hurt Isaac, but she also knew that he would probably use the same spell on her now that she tried to use it on him. Her luck was running out, and fast. She would have to take desperate measures if she wanted to end and win this. She would have to try it again. Damn her morals.

She needed to win.

Pointing her wand at Isaac she shouted, "Incendio Duo!"

Obscuro was a terrible failure.

Raine swiftly dodged the spell, and the blindfold fell short, drifting harmlessly to the floor. Isaac drew his gaze to her wand to find a green light was sputtering out of it, and felt relief that her spell didn't work either. But there was a relentless glare in Raine's eyes that told him she wouldn't give up on it, and he knew that his time was running out.

His fears were only confirmed as the girl shouted desperately, "Incendio Duo!" waving her wand once more.

The blood rushed to his head and he felt dizzy, between the screaming of the crowd and the anticipation of feeling his clothes catch on fire. It had been too soon since the last time, too soon to forget dragging people from the flames, and too soon to heal physically from it. The boy coughed into the crook of his elbow, beginning to feel the pain from exerting himself this much already. He staggered with sudden exhaustion, before planting his feet firmly to the ground to keep balance.

Just use the same spell, he scolded himself, holding his wand to cast. It would be easy to just call out the incantation and see which one connected.

But looking at Raine's face, he couldn't help but see the faces of all the students hurt that terrible day. He could imagine how she would feel terrible, burning pain, trying to extinguish the flames in desperate terror. Her eyes would go wide and wild, skin stained with soot.

And it was then that he knew, that he could never bring himself to cast the spell.

But he wasn't about to throw himself into the fire either. Although he might hold back, she clearly wouldn't. He desperately wracked his head for a spell that would do damage and stop her from casting, being too tired to dodge.

"Flipendo!" he cried, hoping that she'd be flung before the fire started.

Although Sage failed with casting the spell, she didn't give up. And Luna was glad to see that, not that she would show it on her face though. It would be pretty boring if she gave up just because of that small failure.

The green light this time lasted longer than the last one, but it still disappeared as saying that she failed with casting the spell. She did mention about Ambrose's luck. Or maybe, it was actually about these two skills. Maybe Incendio Duo just didn't want to be cast by her.

In the meantime, she also noticed that Ambrose had already cast the next spell. Because the crowd suddenly screamed when the two started attacking each other, she was unable to hear which spell the male lion cast. However, based on the color of the light that was about to hit Sage, scarlet, she was sure this was the Disarming Charm, right?

It was pretty funny that this had been the end of the 5th round already, and none of them were hurt. Luna thought while watching at Sage succeed with dodging the incoming spell. One was good with casting, and one was good with dodging. Hmm...
