Duelling Beta Test Match 2 - Scott vs. Elena

Getting hit so often hurt, a lot, Elena went spinning through the air seconds after firing off her own, she caught her feet with the gentle step she'd learned where she came from. She slid back a step, and decided to pull out a more, well not aggressive, but smarter tactic. Scott hadn't put out the fire, so Elena decided not to give him a chance with the extinguishing spell.

Elena resisted the urge to bow to the head of house, as he seemed to be enjoying the duel. She settled with flashing him a quick dazzling grin before engaging in her plan.

The blue haired girl spun the wand through the air in a fluid motion, as if magic was a dance, and announced her spell, "Expelliarmus!"

Actions: Cast Expelliarmus on Scott.

Elena had hit him with the tickling charm, perfectly, and never in his short life had Scott felt more conflicted: on the one hand, he still felt that same uncontrollable urge to yell and scream in excruciating pain and fear- and on the other, he felt like bursting out laughing and doubling up in delight... thankfully the poor boy didn't have much of a choice in the matter, as he did just that, let out a joyous howl of laughter which must've made him look like a complete madman where he stood, literally in flames. Though in a way he supposed it relieved him that she had used that one, because this new sensation was perhaps the one thing at the moment that kept him from tearing up- something he'd rather not do...

Who knows? Maybe she'd even chosen a less painful spell out of sympathy.

But at the same time, perhaps not: because the one thing he could see properly as he bent his still giggling head up again, was that his opponent had gotten back to her feet, carrying a determined look on her face. She was very impressive.

But this only reminded him of one thing: that whilst the fire was wearing out (because even in his confused state could Scott notice how that was thankfully the case), Elena wasn't.

"Hah! Ha-ha... hah.. Flipendo!...he."

No time to be creative with another spell. Scary Slytherin girl. Arm on fire. Hair to protect.

ACTIONS: try and dodge Elena's spell, attempt to cast the Knockback Jinx again.

A unified gasp surged through the air. The next series of movements had passed by with the blink of an eye. The heads of professor and student alike jumped back and forth between the two opponents on stage. A quick exchange of both the disarming charm and the knockback jinx had flashed between left and right. Both spells missing their respective targets by a mere inch.

Silence filled the room as everyone's eyes were trained on what was next to come. It seemed the following round could prove very decisive for this duel. Doc's expression would be one of excitement and surprise. Not a single word escaped his mouth this time. He just stared in silence along with the other spectators.

Mr. Alexander's robes were still burning it seemed. Though they seemed to be the last flickers of fire extinguishing themselves slowly. The Gryffindor's expression was rather light-hearted in contrast to the fact he was just set on fire... That poor haircut. It was apparant that the tickling charm had taken its toll on the boy. Miss Jones had taken a pretty big hit last round, but seemed to remain standing just fine. Her rapid evasion being a testimony to that assessment.

Of course. It had all happened in less than one suspenseful second. Two spells fired at approximately the same time, and both cast in vain... Elena had tried to disarm him, he realised, but thankfully she failed just as he'd done with trying to knock her off those steady feet of hers again.

He'd missed her, probably thanks to this tickling charm that he was still suffering from. "Hah!"

The fire, on the other hand, was finally out. Thank God, was all Scott really thought then, and for a moment he could very well have settled with giving up, and head for the hospital wing instead. He wasn't fighting for anything, anyway, and no one would be able to tell him he wasn't in enough pain. Though something told him his opponent wouldn't let that happen as easily... Hesitantly, he instead decided to try something that he at the beginning of that day wouldn't ever have imagined:

"Heh.... oh, Incendio Duo!"

He'd never properly cast it before, and wasn't sure it would work. But if it did, then the remaining pain in his left arm had him hoping gravely for her, that the duel would end soon enough.

ACTIONS: attempts to cast the Fire-Making Spell (dodges if Elena tries to hit)

It missed, damn it, and she heard what Scott said afterwards, an incendio duo aimed back at her. Elena was not the most amazingly skilled at taking hits, she was more of an evader than a bruiser. So guess what happens when you are terrified of fire yet love using it? You use as many of the fire spell as possible and you run away fast when you have to actually deal with it.

Elena twisted out of the way, just wanting to evade the fire, not even firing a spell, she'd leave that for next time. When the stakes aren't this high.

The professor most likely noticed it first. As Mr. Alexander's voice shattered under the tickling effect of Miss Jones' latest spell. "Oooofff.." a painful expression was now clearly visible on Caradoc's face. "Poor Scott, could have been a good strike. Clever work from Elena though." He smiled encouragingly at both students and nodded over to the stage to have them carry on. This duel was not done yet.

"Concentrate! Think what your opponent might do next. Anticipate their next move." He cried out in a general attempt to offer advice. Perhaps more for him to restrain his excitment. He did not manage to wipe a wide grin off his face though. His eyes still glittering with joy.

Scott was taken down by part of her tickling spell, and Elena heaved a sigh of relief, no fire, please.

Elena was feeling quite a lot worse for wear than she had at the start of the duel, but it felt like it was limping to an end, one thing she wanted to do was try and stop Scott from being able to cause her further harm. The fire spell was very damaging, but she sorta wanted not to have to deal with any attacks from his end...

Time to try and disarm him again, she decided, and flicked her wand up, "Expelliarmus!"

Scott laughed again. Though this time it wasn't because of Elena's clever spell, that one was thankfully wearing off, but because this was just his luck. He was even less of a duelist than he'd first imagined, and he hadn't been too confident to begin with. He was getting tired now, though, really tired. Maybe it had something to do with his arm stinging like it was now burning from the inside, or his stomach aching and jolting from all the laughter... He'd forgotten what he was supposed to do here. At least his opponent seemed up and energetic. That was good. Well, maybe not for him- but Scott had never been one to consider himself too often anyway.

He eyed their moderator, and then Elena, not exactly sure of what he was trying to convey. He'd never actually been in real pain before. Not used to handling it. Especially not used to handling it when his next expected move was to inflict the same pain also in another... what a strange thing duelling was. Why had he signed up for this? Ah yes. His severe inability to say no thanks.

And his severe curiosity, too, of course.

He really hoped that whatever duels in school were for, anyway, that it wasn't entertainment:

"Flipendo!"

ACTIONS: dodges Elena's spell, attempts to cast The Knockback Jinx I know, how exciting!

"WHOOOOO! AMAZING! Did you see that? DID YOU SEE-..."

Professor Browne was shaking his neighbourly student to all sides in awe of what had just transpired. With a skillful twist of her wrist, Miss Jones had fired off an examplary disarming charm. Both a clever tactic and a gamechanger. On top of that, a classic duelling spell. While Mr. Alexander had cast what seemed to be his favourite jinx so far, Elena was seemingly prepared. In one elegant move she twirled to the other side of the stage while balancing on the heel of one foot and finding her landing on the tip of the other. The jinx had missed her by maybe less than an inch but was left standing in the end. Mr. Alexander's wand was now a few feet removed from his grasp, waiting to be reclaimed. But Miss Jones was already back for more. Meanwhile, Caradoc was furiously biting his knuckles in anticipation.

Well.

Scott's wand had flown out of his hand, and would clink against the floor behind him sooner than he could turn his head the whole way around. Now, for sure, he didn't know what to do. For a brief moment he even tried to remember if he'd met Elena before, and had somehow offended her and forgotten about it- until he reminded himself of how this was what you were supposed to act like during a duel.

He had to admit it was a good move. The spell was a classic for a reason... but he didn't want to think of that DADA essay just now, even though he was realising more and more every second how theory was much more his thing- because he was still in incredible pain. His arm had started pounding violently now, instead of burning, as if his own body wanted to tell him how it was annoyed beyond belief with how he wouldn't just get out of there.
