Tremaine could very well imagine himself in the author's shoes, exploring the depths of the ocean in search of the mysterious and magnificent creatures that lives there. He had always fancied himself having some sort of exotic job: A dragon trainer, an explorer, maybe even the teacher of Care of Magical Creatures one day. His mother, of course, had quite different plans for him. She expected him to get straight O's and go straight to an office job in the Ministry. Of course, Tremaine knew his dreams weren't realistic, but it was something to entertain his mind with, in the mean time.
After they had read through a bit of the book, Ophelia spoke up. She noted her concern about how long it might take to read the entire thing, and Tremaine nodded, trying to pull his attention away from the book. Ophelia paused, and Tremaine finally looked up, trying to think of some solution. Fortunately, it seemed Ophelia was doing the same thing, and she came to a conclusion before Tremaine did.
There was a moment of silence as Ophelia offered to lend Tremaine the book. "Wha - Really?" Tremaine asked, flabbergasted. He could tell by the way she looked at it that this book meant a lot to her. Was she really willing to give it up, just like that? And she trusted him to take care of it? Well, he told himself with determination, he wouldn't let anything happen to this book while it was in his care.
"Thank you, Ophelia!" Gee, that felt weird. Ophelia. He should've just gone with Silverton. If his grandmother could hear the way he was addressing another student right now, she would have a fit.
Brushing away these thoughts, Tremaine turned back to the cover, keeping his place with the tips of his fingertips, to get another look at the cover. After admiring it for a moment, he re-opened the book. "I'll take good care of it, I promise. I won't let anybody else touch it." Getting more and more excited, he moved his hand away from the book, not wanting to mess it up in any way in case he pulled one of his classic slapstick moves.
It was the nicest thing anyone had done for him here so far, and he felt the need to say something more. Calming himself down a bit, he said in a more formal voice, "Again, thank you very much for lending me one of your prized possessions. I really do appreciate it. And I appreciate you joining me in my hunt for the giant squid. Not too many students would have done that." There, now, that sounded nice.

It was getting late indeed, the pair was one of the few people still hanging out at the library none of them seemed to have a wish of leaving yet.
A shimmer was spotted in blue orbs as the boy's reaction turned to be greater than one expected it to be, making a person this happy wasn't on Ophelia's radar, yet she managed to do so. Making promises and thanking her repeatedly, head responded with a nod, as lips curved in a barely noticeable manner.
"Yeah, you better."
A sentence that appeared threatening should have sounded more serious coming from one's lips, yet a friendly tone somehow clawed its way into her voice, making the words sound somewhat sweet if it was even possible to describe them as such. Blue vision grew quite fond of the boy's presence, perhaps the girl even enjoyed listening about his passions. Ophelia was rather glad to have found someone who she can tolerate here, it would certainly make her time on Hogwarts a tad more bearable as she would describe it. To be real, she actually did enjoy her time here, for now, besides a feeling of homesickness ever so often.

Feeling slightly more relaxed, pale hand reached towards the hairband, which tried holding the escaping locks in place, a job not so easily achieved when one's strands are even too silky at times. None the less, it did seem to contain them pretty well, besides a few escaping locks which made the ponytail a pinch messier than before. Pulling the band off, gray-white fell with a certain grace as she then shook her head gently to let her hair fall to one place. Slim fingers pushed one side of the front locks behind her ear, letting the other side fall freely. Then, the now-softer gaze switched around its surroundings, observing how the remaining sunrays fell on the wooden furniture. The candles lit parts that submitted to the dark by this time, making the library appear warmer not only by temperature but by the atmosphere as well.

"Yeah, you better." That was all she said. Tremaine looked up at her and couldn't help smiling. A sort of mirth that hadn't been there before had crept into her voice. She was still the "lost cat" Tremaine had met out by the Great Lake, but now she had a little bit of warmth, just for him. She wasn't at all a person that Tremaine would have expected to be his first friend here at Hogwarts. She was so quiet and centered, nothing at all like him. But he had, for once, looked beyond first impressions and made an effort to befriend someone he might not have liked. And she, in turn, had given him a chance as well. And now they were searching for giant squids together.
He had known Hogwarts would be his home since he could talk. But torn between pride in his family, as his grandmother had taught him, and a certain humility that resided in his grandfather, he was never sure how he would appear to the other students. One thing he didn't want to seem was uncertain. Sure, he had been forced to abandon a few family traditions in order to get along with the other students - calling Ophelia "dude" still unsettled him a bit - but overall his pride had not been forfeited.
His attention on the book, Tremaine noticed Ophelia tugging loose her ethereal and oddly-colored hair. It tumbled down over her shoulders like a waterfall, and the light of the candles gave it a soft golden tint. It reminded him vaguely of his grandmother's hair. She would wear it in a loose bun all day, and when she took it down for the evening, it would cascade down her back just as Ophelia's did.
"Your hair is beautiful," Tremaine complimented sleepily. The calm atmosphere, the soothing glow of the candles, and the quiet companionship of reading a book were all making Tremaine rather drowsy. As he read, he put his finger under the line to keep his place, but all the same found himself reading the same sentences over and over. Funny, he hadn't been at all sleepy just a few minutes ago. He supposed running around all day looking for dragons and giant squids had taken a toll on him.

'Your hair is beautiful.'
It echoed through the girl's head as cheek flushed for a slightly darker shade. Many people complimented her hair before, but she never did know how to take compliments, plus there was something in the boy's drowsy tone which made the words sweeter, making her even more embarrassed than one usually was. She tried looking away again, fingers now brushed through gray locks, answering to the words with a mumbling 'Thanks.', blue gaze had a difficulty to find a view to focus on.

Not many people saw a softer side of her, she felt somewhat exposed, vulnerable. And yet, as vision peeked back to the boy for a moment, just a short little moment before looking away again, she couldn't help but to feel rather relieved to find someone to spend her time with. Tremaine was an interesting individual indeed, had his perfections and flaws, which made the girl think about Lukas again, the Muggle boy would be glad she found someone to talk to.

As cheeks returned to their pale, soft state, she let her head rest on the wooden table, sliding an arm under it for better comfort. Face turned towards the Gryffindor, many silky locks decided to lay on the wooden surface as well, slightly tired eyelids were rather loose above blue orbs. Body mostly didn't receive adequate sleep, though the girl wasn't particularly tired yet today it felt different. She could fall asleep right here, sleep next to the soft candles, sleep next to her closest Hogwarts friend and with those thoughts face became a pinch more peaceful as pale fingers played with one of the lighter, even white, strands, lips spoke with a certain ease, making the tone appear a tad quieter:
"Say, are we the only ones stupid enough to still be here?"
