Brazil was beautiful. That was something everyone already knew. The landscape? Just, wow! The people? Great. But the animals? Oh, Ophelia was quite sure that they were one of a kind.

The Castelobruxo International Capture The Flag event wasn't only that. They'd organized a day, today, the 27th of June, where students could meet some of the animals. The animals in question being llamas, alpacas, and guinea pigs. The latter she'd seen before, because one of her Muggle friends had guinea pigs at home, and Ophelia loved the fluffy creatures.

Naiane showed them around and told them about the dangerously cute animals. She noticed another boy who was standing next to her, the nearest person, and scooted closer to whisper to him, "They're adorable, aren't they?" She nodded at the guinea pigs, but straightened immediately when Naiane started talking about the llamas and alpacas first.

Ophelia looked at the animals with wide, sparkling eyes full of adoration, bouncing on her feet and ready to pet the animals once given permission to do so. As much as she wanted to tackle-hug the beings and cuddle them, she didn't want to overwhelm them or get banned from coming near them by doing so.

Ophelia loved animals in general and was good with them even though she'd never had a pet. At home, she'd usually pet stray cats and her friends' pets. Somehow, most of her Muggle friends had pets, usually cats or dogs, and only one of them had a few guinea pigs. Due to those animals always letting her pet and cherish them, Ophelia liked to think she was good with them.

When announced that they could pet the animals by themselves and even feed them, Ophelia was over the moon. She turned to the guy, definitely not wanting to walk around alone, and introduced herself, "Hi, my name's Ophelia! Would you like to go pet the animals together?" She tilted her head.

Being in a foreign country wasn’t an unfamiliar experience for the young Everhart; she had been on so many travels in her lifetime. But she was only twelve at this point; there were still countless places for her to explore. Brazil was one of them, which she had never visited. It was so different from the England where she had lived and been used to and also different from the Scottish Highlands. Everything looked strange - in a best way - to her. Leaves were lusher and wider, birds were bigger, and weather was hotter. She could never imagine a 30 degrees Celsius winter in England. The time she had spent on this international event was so pleasant, though she would still be haunted by the certain anaconda in the Amazon forest on future nights; she could guarantee that.

Rosaline heard that there was an event where they would have a chance to meet the school animals. Signing up the first second she saw the poster, she was all excited about this. On her way to the event, considering the weather and convenience, she wore a white T-shirt inside of a blue cotton-linen shirt with cropped jeans and a pair of black Mary Janes. Before entering the location, she tidied her collar again, though it was already in perfect shape, and the shirt was so neat, without any creases.

People gathered in the Castelobruxo grounds. A girl her age with black hair stood in front of the crowd. It seemed like she was the host for today. Though presumably she and Rosaline were in the same year, the girl possessed the composure that was a quality so rare among their peers. She wondered what she might’ve experienced before. The curiosity gleamed beneath her ocean eyes, like shining waves under the summer sun. The Castelobruxo girl started the event by introducing herself. Naiane. The name carried grace and vibrant colors. With a warm smile, Rosaline listened intently to Naiane’s introduction. She did not want to miss out on any words from her.

Between the blanks in Naiane’s speech, the young Everhart glanced around searching for who else was participating in the event. Camille, as glamorous as always, donning a hat, which looked absolutely lavish, casually stood in the crowd. As Naiane kept introducing, one of the llamas approached Camille and snatched his hat so swiftly that Rosaline didn’t have any time to warn her friend. The scene was tragic but also funny. Rosaline couldn’t help but chuckled. A hand on her mouth, trying her best not to make any sounds, she stifled the laughter, yet her eyes still creased into the shape of a waxing moon. Then she also spotted another two familiar figures, Damien and Fawkes, two Ravenclaws. One was her detention teammate; the other was her Hogwarts pride groupmate. Both of their presences made her more relaxed. She turned her gaze back on Naiane, who was professionally explaining the habits of all three kinds of animals here. They seemed so unbothered and relaxing around all the strangers from around the world. She could speculate they must be under great care from Castelobruxo faculty and students.

Naiane finished her speech, and it was time for her, as the visitor, to interact with these cute fluffy animals. Rosaline walked toward Naiane’s direction, aiming for the feed to attract the guinea pigs later. After she accomplished her original goal, the young Gryffindor stood there for a second, musing, shooting a glance to Naiane. There were some qualities in the girl that intrigued her so much. Even though she wasn’t very sure about if she should make this move, she stepped in front of the Castelobruxo girl. “I really enjoy your introduction for these cuties!” She tilted her head slightly and continued, “I’m Rosaline from Hogwarts, by the way. Thank you so much for this. They are all so adorable.” She shot a wide grin at Naiane and left.

Rosaline held some feed and headed to the guinea pig area. She always had a certain fondness for the little creatures: the unique sounds they made, the tiny paws, and the cutest faces when they ate. As soon as she squatted down to be closer with them, they went straight for her and happily nibbled on the food. The corners of her lips curved into a warm smile. Yet she might be too focused on these little guys; she had no idea an alpaca was coming for her food, which she put aside on the ground carelessly.

A warm breath out of nowhere startled her. “Huh?” Rosaline quickly turned her head around and saw the face of an alpaca. Carminha. She remembered her name, the lively one. "Oh, it’s you." Her voice softened immediately. Carminha chewed the food she just newly acquired so nonchalantly. The scene was wandering on the border of funny and ridiculous. Rosaline chuckled at it, hands propped on the ground, and tried to keep her balance. The attempt failed. Her butt touched the floor. She sat on the ground, surrounded by guinea pigs and Carminha. What an unexpected turn.

--- ---Often, the best way to recover from a trying day was sleep. The previous day, Guinevere had been out trudging through the rainforest in a game of Capture the Flag, also known as the event she'd voluntarily signed up for, and was the whole reason why she was here. The rising sixth year had slept like a log, snoozing through most of breakfast and into the early afternoon. She woke up with a horrible headache and a growling stomach, which was then compounded upon once she stumbled out of her maloca and found that there was little food to be found. Those hungry children, she cursed in her head. Always taking the food. She compiled herself a small meal, just enough to get through the day, especially since she was already eyeing down the day trip to Vila do Mato. She planned on buying herself something to eat, as well as souvenirs for her family. She had skimmed the overview of what would be offered there, and was feeling excited without even having to see any of it herself.
---Speaking of looking over activities for the day, Guinevere had caught wind of a certain event that involved meeting the local animals, and was conveniently scheduled so that it did not conflict with the outing to the Vila. Seeing as she had no other obligations to tend to - this was often the case; she was not one to fill up her schedule on any particular day, unless there was an extremely rare occasion with short notice - she packed light, dressed in a simple but functional outfit, and left on foot for the animal enclosures.
---When she got there, a student named Naiane, evidently local and evidently the designated guide, had already started to introduce the animals. The llamas were first to be shown to the visitors. Guinevere listened keenly as she introduced three of the animals, not interested in being spit at today. Just as she was wondering if it was indeed the llamas who could spit- or was it camels- Naiane had noted that one of the llamas, Princesa, was known to do such things to her llama peers. Quickly Guinevere diverted her gaze from the pretty animal and moved on with the group to see the next: a llama who enjoyed stealing hats. Already, Guinevere was sensing that these animals all had some sort of quirk to them, and she patted her own head to make sure she was not wearing any headware (her memory was very poor) - obviously all animals were different and- but those eyes were so cute!
---Then were the alpacas. Guinevere had never seen an alpaca in person before, and originally had considered moving closer to pet one of them when Naiane announced that these animals also had a tendency to spit. These worries, however, were quickly ushered away when an alpaca with a pep in her step bounced up to the group, dancing around. She seemed so carefree, making Guinevere almost wish to be an alpaca too: flouncing around all day without a care in the world. And then this feeling too was ushered away when their guide explained that alpacas could kick people. Seeing all the animals was like going on an emotional rollercoaster.
---Lastly, Guinevere caught sight of the guinea pigs. They were, in her opinion, by far the cutest. When she was little, one of her friends had two pet guinea pigs, and they were all so adorable. Briefly she squatted down to get a better look at them- true tourist activity- but after hearing her knees crack on the way down, Guinevere nodded thank you to Naiane and decided it was time to get up and find something else to do.

Brazil wasn’t a totally strange country to him. He had heard about things and cultures from Naiane. Though it was still a fresh experience to visit here in person. Until now, the pleasant and generous from Castelobruxo had remained. He had a great time.

Entering the ground, many people had arrived before him. The young Ichiyagi saw some familiar figures. The brunette girl from the Everhart stood in the crowd. He hadn’t met her a lot of times, merely two gatherings or so. She was the type of girl who had been pampered by her parents and was too naive to face the world. Not like him at all. It was a great quality for a 12-year-old, truly. Another figure was the friend he was far too familiar with, Naiane. She was going to do the introduction for the event. Hayato was sure she would do an excellent job. His friend seemed to be unable to fail anything. He nodded to her as a greeting, since she would be busy in the following minutes. He didn’t want to bother her too much.

The event soon started. Hayato was among the crowd. Everyone buzzed with excitement to get to know the animals here. A girl with long raven hair stood besides him. He didn’t pay much attention to other people since he didn’t consider this to be a social event. That was why he was surprised when the girl talked to him. “Of course. They truly are one of the kinds,” Hayato replied with a polite smile. His trained British accent concealed his identity, though he didn’t intend to do so; sometimes people who talked with him for the first time would mistake his home country. He then turned his attention back on Naiane’s speech.

Llamas, alpacas, guinea pigs. He had to admit that he was in no place that he could claim he held much knowledge about. They were so foreign to the young Japanese. So he enjoyed Naiane’s introduction for them a lot. Curiosity was always one of his virtues. Seeing the animals roam around, Hayato thought of Choco, his pet dog at home. The loyal Akita Inu. A smile appeared on his originally emotionless face. He couldn’t help the outlet of emotion whenever something reminded him about Choco. He wondered how she had been at home because he hadn’t seen her for a while. But the summer was coming; his homesickness worsened at the end of the semester. He knew very well that his mother would take good care of Choco. She was in good hands.

The introduction soon finished. Hayato looked at Naiane in the crowd and gave her a thumbs-up as his support for her. Now the visitors from around the globe could pet and feed these animals. The girl who had spoken to him before initiated another conversation with him. Hayato listened to her introduction intently, his obsidian eyes being observant. He had no reason or excuse to turn down her offer, and he was actually quite happy to have company at this event, though it wasn’t in his first plan. “Sure. It would be lovely.” He looked into Ophelia’s brown eyes and said, “My name is Hayato Ichiyagi, from Mahoutokoro. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” He grinned, then asked Ophelia, “Which animal do you want to see first? I have no preference. Every one of them looks very cute to me.” Handing the right of choosing to the girl, Hayato didn’t really care where they should begin the petting journey. Another question had risen. “Do you have any pets at home? I have a dog at home,” Hayato shared. He was surprised that he talked that much today. Perhaps it was because he was in a foreign country. Sometimes he felt he wasn’t himself, though in a good way.

Open to interactions!!
Castelobruxo was, officially, my favorite school of them all. Not like I've been at enough schools to tell, but there was something in South America that almost felt like I belonged here.

And it wasn't just because of the vegetation or the wonderful views. It was also for the culture, the people, the warmth that made you feel welcome even when this was not your home. And I loved that.

I was still on my mission to make friends. And, considering the fact that my success rate had been a very close 2% in my last 12 years of life, that seemed to be another impossible mission. But at least I had to try.

Which is why I woke up this early today. I have no idea if my maloca-mates were attending today, but I was coming. I wanted to see the animals. After all, there was a high chance that they were the only friends I'd made in this place.

The animals were cute. Maybe the alpacas and the llamas were a bit... Too big for me. I loved small animals. Which is why I went directly with the Guinea Pigs.

They were so... Calm, so easy to entertain. They didn't look at you like they were judging you, like the alpacas, or try to bit you when you fed them, like the llamas. No, the Guinea Pigs were probably the best part of all the event.

Maybe I'd find a way to convince my dad to get me one of them. Or maybe not. I don't know. By now, I was happy just feeding them.

Everyone here seemed to have friends. Someone to turn to when they wanted to say something or laugh with. And suddenly, the space next to me felt.... Empty.

Usually, if I hadn't screwed it all up last month, she'd be here with me. She'd be feeding the animals, or laughing with me, instead of staying in the maloca with the others. Oh Saints, I'm a failure.

No, I don't deserve to give it a thought. Sky made her decision, and so did I. If she wanted to approach me, she would've done so in all the opportunities she had. She wouldn't have ignored me all the times I tried to talk to her.

But I can't blame her, though. It looks like, in the end, it's always my fault.

So I just kept feeding the Guinea Pigs, fully convinced they were the cutest animals on earth. One of them even wanted to play with me! Looks like, after all, I did manage to make a friend. Not everything is lost.

And for a brief second, I wondered if my mom had been here. If she had came to South America, even if it was just another one of her trips or for a school event. I wondered if she had walked along the same path we walked today, interacted with the same animals or if she had better luck than me with making friends.

And if, even for the tiniest second, she was here with me now. If her soul, even in the afterlife, was taking care of me.

Maybe she was my friend. Maybe the memory of my mom in here was the only comfort I'd have.

Maybe, after all, I wasn't so alone. She could be here, with me, if I imagined it. In my thoughts, the figure of my mom laughed with the alpacas.

She once said she wanted to take me here, to America. That I'd fall in love with the people and the weather.

She was right. This place was perfect for me.

Ophelia was mesmerized by the scenery. It wasn't like she hadn't seen something this beautiful before; it was that she'd never seen something this beautiful so close up. Brazil was, like the pictures she'd seen at home on the internet, by far the most appealing country she'd ever been to. And that was being proven right to her every day. The day before, during the capture the flag event, which exhausted her to the point that she fell asleep like a rock after, she'd had a lot of fun, even though some very interesting obstacles and perhaps interesting injuries were involved. But she tried not to think about those today; today, her attention was only for these precious animals, and the boy who agreed to walk around to pet them with her, Hayato.

"Perhaps we could start petting them in the same order as they were introduced? So, llamas first, then alpacas, then guinea pigs," she suggested when given the option of choosing which animal to start with. Getting a hold of Hayato's sleeve, she pulled him excitedly with her toward the llamas. "I wouldn't say I do, but my parents were planning on getting a golden retriever when I visited them for Christmas," a pause, then she continued, "although, if I'm not mistaken, they've already got... her?," thinking more about it, she sighed, "I love animals, but I suppose she's going to see me as a stranger who visits them every year for some time,"

As she'd seen Naiane do in the beginning, Ophelia opened her palm and approached André. The llama, just the way Ophelia had predicted, but still got nervous and excited, moved closer and let her pet him. "Cute," she said, then looked at Hayato, "what breed is your dog?" she asked.

Although the Capture the Flag tournament had officially ended, there was still plenty to experience around Castelobruxo. Diana had enjoyed exploring the Brazilian school and seeing how different it was from Hogwarts. Castelobruxo was the very first magical school she's ever visited, and so she wanted to make sure she explored the entire school. When she heard that there'd be an opportunity to meet some of the animals raised on the grounds, her curiosity was instantly piqued.

The morning of June 27th was pleasantly warm as Diana made her way across the grounds with the other visitors. A gentle breeze stirred the surrounding greenery whilst the sounds of quiet chatter drifted through the gathering crowd. Everyone had assembled around a herd of fluffy animals waiting patiently in an open enclosure. The animals were so cute, Diana wanted to immediately pet them, but she put that impulse aside.

Standing before the fluffy animals was a student, probably apart of Castelobruxo, who introduced herself as Naiane. Diana listened attentively as Naiane explained that they'd be meeting alpacas, llamas, and guinea pigs. Diana remained near the back of the group, rather than stepping forward immediately, this allowed herself to watch both the animals and the people around them. She found it interesting that every animal seemed to have such a distinct personality.

André stood proudly at the front of the llamas, confidently observing every newcomer. Princesa looked far less interested in making friends, seeming much more concerned with discouraging any overly persistent admirers from the herd. João, meanwhile, appeared completely innocent until Naiane mentioned his habit of stealing hats, causing Diana to glance instinctively at the visitors wearing caps. She wondered if any of them would lose their hats before the morning was over. Lucky for her, she wasn't wearing a hat. And she was thankful that João doesn't steal wands, because after what happened during her Capture the Flag tournament, she doesn't want to lose her wand ever again.

As the introductions continued, the young seer found herself particularly interested in the alpacas. The alpacas somehow seemed calmer, as they quietly observed the visitors instead of demanding attention. When Naiane introduced Lua, explaining that she preferred watching people before deciding whether to approach them, Diana couldn't help feeling as though she understood the little alpaca. That sounded familiar, probably because Diana preferred watching people before deciding whether to approach them. Diana just met her alpaca twin!

Once the introductions were finished and everyone was invited to meet the animals, several students hurried eagerly toward the llamas. Diana, however, waited, because there was no reason to rush. It wasn't as if the animals were going anywhere, and she imagined the animals might appreciate someone approaching them calmly.

Remembering Naiane's instructions, Diana walked slowly toward Lua, making sure the alpaca could see her the entire time. She stopped several feet away before crouching slightly and holding out an open hand, careful not to reach forward or grab at the animal. For a few moments, absolutely nothing happened. Lua was just simply watching Diana, and she didn't mind waiting. Eventually Diana's alpaca twin took a few careful steps closer. Lua lowered her head to sniff Diana's hand before she gave it an approving nudge with her nose. Once she got her approval, Diana gently brushed the back of her hand across Lua's soft fleece, just as Naiane had demonstrated.

A small smile appeared on Diana's face. "Hello," she murmured quietly, more to the alpaca than anyone else. Because Diana wasn't talking to anyone else, she was talking to her alpaca twin.

Lua remained perfectly relaxed, happily accepting the gentle attention before she wandered toward the small pile of food which waited nearby. Diana picked up a handful of grass and held it out on her open palm. Lua accepted the offering without hesitation, chewing contentedly while Diana watched with quiet fascination. Lua's trust felt oddly rewarding.

After spending a little longer with Lua, Diana wandered over to the guinea pig enclosure. Tiny paws darted through the grass as the little creatures explored every corner of their space. One in particular, a curious olive-brown guinea pig named Cena, scurried confidently toward the visitors exactly as Naiane had described. Diana knelt once again and offered him a small blade of grass. Cena barely hesitated before accepting it.

A quiet laugh escaped Diana as the tiny guinea pig eagerly munched away, seemingly far more interested in the food than in the large group of witches and wizards gathered around him. Sometimes Diana wondered if she could be like that, interested in something else other than a large group of people. Maybe after this visit, she might change.

Looking up, Diana noticed Naiane nearby and quietly asked, "Do they recognize the students who care for them every day?" The young raven genuinely wondered. The animals all seemed comfortable around their caretakers, particularly during the demonstrations. After listening carefully to the answer, Diana thanked Naiane for taking the time to introduce everyone to the herd.

Before she left, Diana glanced once more at her alpaca twin, Lua. Lua had settled comfortably beneath the shade while several visitors respectfully admired her from a distance. It had been a peaceful morning. One Diana found herself appreciating far more than she had expected. Sometimes the quietest moments became the most memorable, and she'll definitely be remembering this day.

"OMG!" Arlen shouted in her mind, "OMG!!!". She was in the Castelobruxo, a wizard school in South America. "OMG!!!" Arlen was jumping out of excitement. The school was wonderful! Now, when the game Capture the Flag finished, she was able to observe the school in its all beauties. "OMG!" Arlen kept saying, her mouse wide open. The school was so different from the Hogwarts.

The students were very kind and nice there. They prepared some activities for students from Hogwarts to show the animal-residents, that are living there. Arlen talked to one boy, who tried to explain her what they are going to do. It took her some time to understand, what is he talking about. When Arlen finally understood, what was going on, she began jumping out of excitement up and down. The boy strangely looked at her, as if she was beside herself. Probably, she was, a bit, just out of happiness.

Soon the activities began. Teachers assembled students and headed to the park, where the animals lived. Arlen walked slowly, her eyes wide open. She tried to remember every tiny piece of detail, to write it in her diary and tell her parents and her cat Isida, afterwards. Arlen was on the ninth cloud. When they entered the park, the students were surrounded by tree trees, fresh-green grass and green bushes. Everything was green there, even light was greenish. There was so much different unknown plants there, that your head would get dizzy. Arlen gasped, she had never seen so much green and so much plants in one place. "Wow!" she kept turning her head around the place. "But where are the animals?" Arlen asked, narrowing her eyes behind her round glasses, to be able to see the animals in this greenery, but as far as she could see, the park was empty. Suddenly, the path their walked on, sharply turned right and students found themselves on the round middle-sized meadow. "OMG!" Arlen exclaimed, observing around.
On the meadow stayed different animals, that Arlen had never seen before, only on pictures in books. She never went to zoos, and in her village there was no TV channels that had animal programs.

The closest animal was looking a bit strange. "It is a short giraffe, probably. Short, furred giraffe, that has something common with a camel," Arlen thought, gazing the unknown creature. The creature was standing calmly, eating fresh grass. The Castelobruxo teacher said, "Hogwarts students, you probably haven't seen this creature before - this is llama. You can pet and feed it, if you want".
Everyone looked at the lama with their eyes wide open, like big plates. Arlen bravely went out from the crowd and touched the llama. It was fluffy and… and soft, very soft, like a cloud. The llama seemed to like Arlen. It turned its head toward Arlen and began sniffing and touching her with her head. "Probably, it is searching for food," Arlen thought and bend to wrap a piece of grass. The llama happily shook her head and ate the grass from Arlen's hand. Her tongue was wet and warm. There was a gulp from the crowd of Hogwarts students, but they quickly understood that llama wasn't dangerous.

Then, they met alpacas. They were just like llamas, but smaller and curly. They were really cute. Also, there were guinea pigs. These were just like England ones, small and always sniffing with their tiny nose.
Arlen and other Hogwarts students spend hole day playing and feeding the animals. Arlen was very happy - she loved animals and learning about different ones. Of course, cats were her favorite animals, but others are also very cute.

The day flew by very quickly and later, at evening, students came back tiredly. Laying in her bed, Arlen thought, "What a wonderful place!". And got asleep.

Zephyr grew up believing there were only so many ways the world could surprise him. With a simple life they have on their family farm, and between helping with the sheep, chasing stubborn chickens back into their pens and learning early that geese were tiny feathered tyrants, he thought he already saw just about every animal worth meeting. Turned out Hogwarts would prove him wrong more than once, and now Castelobruxo was doing it all over again. Brazil was different and didn't resemble anywhere he had ever been.

The air was warmer here than any winter and the air were either thick with flowers or damp earth. The trees have broader leaves, birds were colorful, it was a place that would make one wonder how many incredible corners of the world exist that he had yet to discover. No one told him, not even his dad, who was supposed to be well-versed in the wizarding world, that coming to this world would give him a chance to visit magical schools around the globe. Receiving his Hogwarts letter was already impossible and hard to believe.

Now here he was, halfway across the world because of an international event, his third one so far, and collecting memories that no photograph could ever do justice. He promised himself he would tell Zaria every detail once he got home. She would love hearing about Brazil and she would be jealous too. Hearing about a chance to meet Castelobruxo's animals caught his interest. It's something he wouldn't missed after all, he was happiest whenever it's creatures, magical or otherwise, were involved. Especially in magical world, there were a lot of creatures he has yet to see and encounter and the basic knowledge he knew were only from the books he borrowed from the library. He's looking forward to see some of them throughout his stay at Hogwarts or his travels to other schools.

The guide Naiane amused him that he couldn't help smiling more than once. André reminded him of the old ram back home who insisted on inspecting every visitor before allowing anyone onto the property. Princesa suspiciously resembles one of their fussier hens, except fluffier. João would fit right in on their farm. Stealing hats was not all that different from stealing gloves or shiny belt buckles, something the local magpies turned into a competitive sport years ago. The alpacas fascinated him the most.

He had seen photos in magazines and watched shows on the television, but standing only a few feet away from them was something different. Their wool looked very soft, and despite their llama-like appearance, their expressions were gentler. Would be it be different caring for them compared to sheep? Do they have preferred treats? Do they recognize people the way sheepdogs do? Are they easy to train? He had never seen guinea pigs so many in one place before. Tiny little potatoes with legs.

Looking around, a familiar figure caught his eyes. It was Rosaline who the guinea pigs took an interest on. She looked happy and comfortable that Zephyr didn't realize he was just watching her interact with the animals, that is, until Carminha decided to intrude. The alpaca sneaked toward the unattended food only a few seconds before Rosaline realized the animal was behind her. He was debating where he would pretend he didn't see all that as it would have been the polite thing to do. Unfortunately...The sight of Rosaline sitting in the middle of a fluffy circle of guinea pigs with an alpaca casually helping itself to her food was so unexpectedly adorable that he just laughed. Coming to a decision, he crouched beside her, "I think you've been adopted..." pertaining to the animals around her, "Need a rescue? Or you're good being their new favourite person?"

Her notebook remained tucked in her arms. Skylar enjoyed listening to the introduction more than she expected. The speaker seemed to know every animal personally, and each llama possessed such a personality, stranger than some people she had met. Surprisingly, she had not written a single word, simply watched, or perhaps observation came before documentation. That was what she thought.

While most people were busy with André, the herd’s alpha llama, who seemed friendly enough to be the first one to approach visitors. Skylar was eyeing up somewhere else. Princesa caught her attention almost immediately. The silver-coated llama stood elegantly not far from her. Its head held high that somehow resembled a noblewoman refusing invitations to every dance in the ballroom. Its eyes barely acknowledged the surroundings, casting an unimpressed glance toward another llama that wandered a little too close. “Such an arrogant creature…” Skylar murmured with a smirk. “You do have standards, don’t you?” There was something oddly respectable that annoyed the girl at the same time. Skylar arched her brow. “Or you just simply look that way, but actually kind.” It reminded her of how she was. The way Skylar first made a first impression in front of her classmates, looking arrogant and downgrading people with just the corner of her eye, even though she did not mean to. Just like Princesa behaved as if the attention had to earn her approval first, unlike the friendlier animals, who welcomed attention. She was the only one that not socially like the others, similarly to Skylar.

The girl did not notice that its feet had carried a little closer, stopping just outside the comfortable distance. She had no intention of petting that llama. Plants had taught her that not everything appreciated being touched because it looked nice. Some things were best admired quietly. So she stood there, hugging her notebook, patiently watching the graceful animal flick one ear before deliberately turning away.

A second later, something brushed lightly against the brim of her hat. She barely felt it. Then notice the weight had disappeared. “…Hm?” Her head turned side to side. Her eyes glanced at Princesa for another heartbeat before she slowly reached up to touch nothing but her own hair. “…Where did my hat go?” She turned around in genuine confusion, only to freeze at the sight before her. João stood several feet away, looking impossibly pleased with himself. Her hat dangled triumphantly from his mouth. “…Excuse me?” The llama stared back with innocent eyes that would have convinced anyone else he had done absolutely nothing wrong. Skylar pierced her eyes at him. “That is mine.” João’s ears twitched. Then he casually turned and trotted away. “Hey!” She hurried after him, not quite running but definitely walking much faster than usual. “Give it back!” Taking several minutes before he spat her hat back to her. “Yucks!” She sighed with disappointment before walking past the alpacas' introduction and moving on to the guinea pigs immediately.

Enough with animals that liked to spit at her. Skylar simply had no talent for winning over animals' hearts. Even the Bowtruckles back home treated her like an unwelcome guest. No matter how much she adored them, they always kept their distance, looking frequently annoyed by her mere existence. Maybe she should just give up on studying creatures altogether and focus on plants instead. Then again… no. She wasn’t one to quit so easily. With a quiet huff, she headed toward her next choice.

Cena, that little thing, its size was not far from a big rat. “Hi there!” Her voice was soft instinctively. Now, she understood why people act ridiculously in front of their pet. “Please don’t bite me.” She kneeled before giving it a piece of hay. The creature rushed to her with incredible speed, chewing the thing in her hand. “Easy… easy…” Even though it was more interested in the food than her, still quite adorable to see. She pet it slowly, resting her breath as the joy filled her time.
