Well the future is never guaranteed or secured. So maybe have a plot twist happen and he gets ran over or murdered somehow. Maybe gets burned to death trying to be heroic and save someone from a house fire. He could also get stuck in water and for some reason not be able to swim and drown to death or have a rare moment of getting eaten by a shark. He could also go how Brees grandma die and get in a car accident and die in the ambulance. Or he could make it to the hospital and die during a desperately needed surgery

Or do what @Esther Meadows said and have a relative or dnpc friend die
