Hi! Since your a first year, donations giving money is not possible. So we first years have to use either house badges in your common room or potato peels which is more popular! here is the how much to give:
1 sickle is worth 29 potato peels
1 galleon is 493 potato peels (17*29=493)

1 galleon = 17 sickles = 493 knuts
1 sickle = 29 knuts
