Experiment #022: 'Point of Defense'

"O-Oh! Right, yes, that would probably be best."
Emil quickly gathered their things, having also lost track of time in their conversation with Robin. They found the 'chatter' to be quite enlightening, and Robin didn't seem to mind the Hufflepuff's lack of social...skills? Acuity? General aptitude? All of the above, most likely.

"Well, um...this has been quite pleasant, but I'll leave you to your class. I believe I have Charms next. I-I'm usually in the library when not working on an experiment, so...you can find me there. Have a good class!"
Emil smiled softly, gave Robin a wave, and then made a swift exit from the classroom. They were still pink with embarrassment over leaving the book, but that tension in their body had eased quite a bit after chatting with the Ravenclaw. He was...nice. Very nice. And Emil hoped they could run into him again sometime soon. Perhaps they could even take him up on his idea of an unofficial duel as a part of their experiments.
Joint experiments, Emil silently corrected themself. It would be rude to not pursue a line of inquiry without Robin after talking with him about it at length, after all!

As they scurried away to their next class, Emil couldn't help but take note of the irony: they'd gone sprinting downstairs with fear of being judged - and now they were hurrying back up with a potential friend in magical experimentation. Hogwarts truly did offer the most curious twists!

Any color-coded text (red/blue/green/yellow) is intended to represent the speaking/thinking character's house or former house, other characters or characters with their house unknown to me will be grey.

Colored italics are thought; colored "quotations" are spoken. Uncolored italics are usually books or songs etc., while uncolored quotations are usually meant to emphasize the included word or make it sarcastic.
Emil hurriedly packed their things before also telling Robin where they'd be in their free time. Not that their answer was surprising, but Robin found it amusing that both of them liked the environment the library provides. " . . . Have a good class!"

"You too." Robin bowed his head as a substitute for a wave, seeing Emil swiftly exit the classroom after smiling at him with a genuine softness. It looked like they were just as happy—or excited—as Robin to have found someone to share theories with.

Robin had to admit, as someone who characterizes himself as an aspiring researcher, he hadn't really done any experiments of his own. He researched existing articles and familiarized himself with his discipline of interest, but never considered gaining some hands on experience. Robin felt somewhat ashamed of himself. Compared to Emil, his passion for academia seemed half-baked to say the least.

However, that ends today. More accurately, that ends whenever they decide to fulfill their promise of experimenting together. Robin decided not to dwell on his self-loathing for too long—he had time to change, after all. This was only his first semester at Hogwarts, he could participate in as many experiments and research opportunities as he wants. His goal was always clear, but now that the path towards that goal is also laid out, Robin felt a surge of motivation rushing through the cells in his brain.

A researcher . . . I'll finally be a real researcher.

I wasn't sure whether I should write another post to finish this off or let it finish at Emil's exit, but here I am. Basically just some of Robin's internal dialogues and thoughts on the encounter. It was fun rping with Emil! Hope we get to do the experiment duel at some point>:)
