Deep breaths, and a smile that became more and more forced aside. He didn’t fire up again. He could keep his cool. He could be reasonable. Completely. He made the comment about her hands mostly because he didn’t really like her just standing there and watching. He didn’t mind being observed, though it wasn’t something he would ever choose. The problem was that he felt judged the moment he made the slightest movement. So he offered her a final chance to step in, as he began scooping soil.
She hadn’t asked to be motivated. He hadn’t even tried. So he grit his teeth and scooped a bit more soil into the pot. He paused at her next interjection. He was overpacking it? He hadn’t even patted it yet! Gritting his teeth he bent further down over the pot in an attempt to hide his face. «I can see where you’re coming from thinking that. But it’s all just lose. It will be compacted when we transfer Mason» He could control his face or his voice. Doing both more than surpassed his ability at the moment. He was so focused on keeping his tone neutral that he didn’t notice the name slipping out once again.
«We’re just giving the pot a bit of a cushion. Any less and the plant won’t have enough space to grow roots» He continued to explain. Not that he really wanted to continue the conversation with the rude girl. Neither was it that he felt like sharing knowledge. But the slytherin didn’t seem like she had a whole lot of experience in this subject. So he should at least attempt to scatter a bit of knowledge she could pick up if she wanted.
He paused as he picked up the pot containing Mason. He was so proud that it had grown so well. He’d rather it be left alone for a week or two more, but he doubted the dittany stalk would take serious harm from it. As he spoke up again, his tone had softened. «Just a minute, and you’ll have your new home!» He flipped the pot over after having placed a hand over the top layer of dirt. Jiggling it, he slid the old pot off.
That was when he paused again. He saw the opportunity to be a bit petty, and he grabbed it with the eagerness of a pet spotting snacks. He hid a bit of a smirk as best he could as he turned to the snake once more. «Tell me… should I shake off the old dirt? And if so, how much of it?» He was quite proud he managed to keep his tone as neutral as he did, all the while snickering on the inside. He didn’t succeed as much as he hoped by far.
