𝕡ulia smirked as she watched her Green Sparks charm fly across the room and hit Cirrus, the sparks flashing in her face. The spell wasn't a popular choice in duelling, but it worked perfectly, doing exactly what Julia intended it to. The Hufflepuff's vision would be quite poor for a round now, a possible advantage. Unfortunately, that was the moment she felt herself being lifted into the air. Cirrus had casted Wingardium leviosa the levitation charm. She yelped for a moment, and regained control of herself, forcing her body not to flail around. Calm and composed. That's how she had to stay. Julia surveyed the room as she levitated above, wondering what might she cast. She looked towards Livia. The moderator looked quite interested, and was rather observant unlike others. 'Interesting choice of tactics. You are both performing quite well; do persevere,' the young Slytherin said. Julia was surprised she chose to speak now, but hid it well. Her gaze shifted towards Cirrus who also, seemed to be deep in thought. Julia racked her brains, feeling conflicted. There were an array of spells at her disposal, but should she fail to use the right one at the right time, they would be useless. After almost a minute, her racing mind decided on a spell. Julia took her duelling stance and faced Cirrus, her eyes shining with determination. Perhaps Cirrus and her would end up being friends one day, or enemies some other day, but as of now, she was only an opponent. An opponent who was going to loose.

Oh, when will this end...

Cirrus hated failing, she'd much rather give up before she failed to save herself the embarrassment. she almost scoffed under her breath when Livia said "You are both performing quite well", for Cirrus didn't think so. Julia, yes. Herself, not at all. She'd just set herself aflame and now her vision had been robbed from her. She didn't know how she'd save herself now, not when she was sure she wouldn't be able to land anymore spells from this point forward. Especially as Julia didn't appear all that worried about levitating above the ground. She was in complete and utter shambles.

As much as she wanted to forfeit, Cirrus knew that wouldn't do her any better than simply seeing it through and losing. She fears that would only make her situation worse. She's breathing and standing up mostly straight, so she supposes she's still able to endure, even if the signs seem to tell her otherwise. While she wasn't exactly very calculated anymore, she was certainly driven by something much rawer than that. Her frustration invigorated her, she wielded her wand with conviction, tried to focus her sight through the blurry green sparks that warbled her vision, and cast her next spell.

If anything was true about Fortune, it was certainly that she had favourites.

If it were Livia's job to dole out luck, she would have been a bit kinder. After all, she believed firmly in the importance of objectivity and fairness. But as it was, she was only the bystander, the witness, to this fateful encounter.

The spells came quickly. Both duellists decided to maximise damage, a sound strategy. But where Julia's flipendo aimed true, Cirrus's strayed, and sometimes, a simple error like that could make all the difference. Livia did not have it in her to flinch, or to cringe; no, she would look upon the scene as if it were a diorama explaining what not to do. It served quite helpfully in that regard.

There was something a bit extra about Julia's spell, too. Livia could not quite place it. A bit of extra strength, perhaps, aided by intense focus. Whatever the case, it drove Cirrus backwards and right to the ground. Now this was a strategic occurrence all could learn from. Livia doubted Cirrus would be able to rise right away.

Livia recalled only vaguely that the role of a referee included boosting morale in addition to observing and enforcing the rules. This was not her strongest skill. However, she noticed that even amidst the unluckiness, Cirrus had managed to maintain the levitation charm against Julia. 'A very clean Knockback Jinx. Lovely job,' she offered Julia, before turning her focus to Cirrus. 'And – and do not let me distract you – exceptional focus. It is truly a wonder that she is still floating.'
