Cold as Ice

There was no need for her to study his movements no more. She could see he was timid, yet although his eyes seemed somewhat tired and emotionless, they seemed to hold a type of madness that was trying to escape from inside of him. It kept her on her toes for sure, but it didn't draw all her attention away from the forbidden forest. There were things inside there that were far more dangerous than him.
In fact, that exact thought made her think clearly. Going into this forest seemed like the only way to achieve an extreme adrenaline rush, but in reality, when she stood back and thought it through properly it was utterly stupid. She knew barely any spells as it was, so how was she to defend herself, or Kaegan for that matter.
Her eyes starred over at him. Maybe he was some sort of monster, one that could eventually take on such beasts that lived within the Forbidden Forest. Of course, this was just overimaginative thoughts that ran through her head, but still, it could be possible. The corner of her lips curved up into a mischievous smirk as she thought to herself. '' Nah. 'ere is far enough... for now.'' She would return to this location, with or without him, but in later years to come. She was far too inexperienced to visit the insides such a place, especially without a professor present, which they would disallow anyway.
The footsteps of the girl crunched beneath the crisp leaves and twigs as she made her way out from the outskirts of the forest and towards the land that held air which was easier to breathe and see through. She hoped the boy followed her. He had been doing for the past few hours so she didn't see why he would have stopped now.
The sky had darkened throughout their time spent hidden beneath the trees. It was far from nighttime, but it was probably leaning towards 1 PM so the sky was most likely just covered with dark grey clouds that were ready to burst droplets of water into the sky. '' Lets head back. Its slowly getting dark and I'm bloody starvin'.'' She rested a hand on her stomach to exaggerate her need for food and gave it a pat before removing it and stuffing it into her cloak along with the other. The Slytherin continued to walk onwards and back up the hill that led to Hogwarts Castle. It took her a little longer to get back to the Grounds, ones that grew bright green healthy grass and had the sounds of students screaming in the far background.
It wasn't something she enjoyed the sound of but after complete silence from humans in both their surroundings for such a time, it was nice to hear a bit of life once more. '' Thanks for coming with me today. I... I enjoyed it, even though we didn't really do much. Still, was a nice change to have the company. It didn't feel as bad as I thought it was gonna. ''
She gave the boy a soft smile before turning her back to him and heading onwards and eventually into the Castle. The company had drained her over time due to concentration and stress. It was hard in the fact that she was trying so hard to make an effort with the boy, in making a friendship, or a start of one. She just hoped her actions were enough and weren't see as her coming off as rude and distant. She just didn't know how to say goodbye. But she hoped she would meet him again sometime very soon.

Cold as Ice
The girl stopped to say that where they were was far enough. It was a blessed relief. He was worried about so many things, going into the forest was something he could momentarily cross off the list. It didn't make much of a difference. The forest was a small cup of water that had been poured into an ocean of self doubt and fear, an ocean far too big for a little boy of 12 to realistically handle by himself. But what was he supposed to do about it if he didn't even know what was happening wasn't normal.
People only know that they're sad because they have happiness to compare it to. Kaegen knew that he wasn't happy, but he did think that everything was normal. Jumping at rustling leaves was normal, losing control was normal. These were all just thing that happened, that you couldn't prevent. How could you prevent the world from being the world? How did you prevent the dark places from existing, from invading his mind. You didn't, you accepted it and fought against it.
He felt she should reply to the girl, but all he managed to do was a feeble opening and closing of his mouth. What was he supposed to say? Yes? You're right? He wasn't sure. A empty confirmation didn't seem like it made a lot of sense, given the situation. Given any situation, to be honest. He didn't like saying things without good reason, it just didn't add up a lot of the time. Things heard you when you were loud. Things you definitely didn't want hearing you. But he had to say something, didn't he?
The decision was made for him when fallen tree went on to say how it was getting dark, and how they should probably head back. He understood that, it made sense. She wasn't going to hear him arguing. But then she had to go and make things confusing. She had enjoyed it? Why? What had he done to make anything more enjoyable? He didn't really think he had enjoyed himself, unless he had and just hadn't realized it. It seemed like something he might do to himself.
"I-"
And then he watched as she started heading up towards the castle. It was so confusing. Everyone always was confusing. But at least this time it was a nice sort of confusing. He didn't like being confused, to be sure. It bothered and stressed him. But the short encounter had been as nice as he could have hoped. She was a potential ally, in a way.
But for now, he would sit down on the grass, and think about what had happened, there by the edge of the forbidden forest as it started getting dark, until the girl was out of sight. Even after she had entered the castle he sat there. It was hours before he moved at all, and when he did he had calmed down considerably. To him, he had been thinking. But he had napped. Dozed off in a sitting position. And even that little nap had helped. Not enough to fix any of his problems, but enough to get him through another day.
