The budding friendship between the boys could prove educational for the both of them. Harvey of course offered a unique perspective in being a mixed raced wizard. He straddled the line that separated human and goblin culture, but with the absence of his father he was much more accustomed to his grandfather's way of life. There was no denying that Harvey would one day grow up to live in the wizarding world, so his tutor had taught him all about that side of his heritage. Yet learning and living are very different things. Now that Harvey had been off to Hogwarts for a year he had learned a lot, but connecting with someone like Luca would prove useful in many ways.

"I'm not sure. It isn't something that is spoken about often in this home." In a world of prestige it was often quite difficult to admit to being born out of wedlock. While his grandfather's name was well respected, Harvey was in fact a bastard. Something that would have kept him out of this family if Larnak had ever produced a male heir. There was quite a bit of complicated emotions surrounding that fact, but it would not serve him to dwell on such things. "You see, my mother isn't a full blooded goblin either. She is only half and had little to do with my grandfather until she was an adult. It wasn't until her brief time with my father and me as a result that she reconnected with him. That's about as much as I know." There was no reason to lie about it. One, he wanted to be truthful with Luca and deepen this bond. Two, it was very obvious that Harvey was not fully human. Might as well accept it and wear it proudly.

While these sometimes difficult subjects were the real meat and potatoes of getting to truly know somebody, no meal was complete without a little dessert. "Ah, yes. I did arrange a small treat for us." With that Harvey hopped off his chair and his little legs carried him towards the door. "Burok, we are ready, please." His caretaker was never far away way and would soon enter his bedroom pushing a cart. Now, what sat on top of it may come as quite the surprise. Luca surely had seen something like it before, but it wasn't everyday that an old Muggle film projector was wheeled into your room. "I'm not sure if you are a fan of Muggle cinema, but I must admit I've taken a liking to it. Burok and Grandfather have arrange this for me with some slight modification." Harvey's caretaker would begin snapping her fingers as the magic unfolded. A white screen would float and attach itself to the far wall. No electric light or motor would function in a house full of magic, but an illumination charm and a locomotive spell would do the trick. "So, I've been studying some of the Muggles' early films and I really enjoy the work of an actor by the name of Charlie Chaplin. We've acquired an old reel by the name of "City Lights." Apparently he falls in love with a blind woman and goes through all sorts of wild antics in an attempt to raise money for her. It's from an era of Muggle film called silent movies, so you really need an actor that can make you feel something through expression alone. Burok has some sweets for us too if you'd like. Would you care to watch?"

If Luca didn't object, Harvey would ask Burok to load the reel and the boys could watch a movie together. He would be interested to see how his new friend reacted to the medium. Harvey himself would often be chuckling along with the comedy, but he'd answer any question Luca may have.

Luca listened intently as Harvey delved deeper into the Barrows family history, offering a brief lesson on his paternal ancestry. The boy nodded with measured care, showing his true interest in his friend’s heritage, and filed the information away, comparing it to his own. He was genuinely interested in Goblin society and, up to a point, especially considering the unique angle it took when it came to his friend. There was a brief moment where it dawned upon him how open the half-Goblin had been with his ancestry that may have been considered to some to be less savory, which Luca received as a genuine show of trust.

The young Corranado heir couldn’t place his peculiar feeling because he didn’t quite understand the concept of being a bastard. At his age, he didn’t know the difference between being born out of wedlock or not. What he knew was that he had a mother and father, so he assumed Harvey would know the same. However, something about the boy’s mannerisms betrayed that there was something deeper with this situation. Though Luca was observant and empathetic enough to know that he needn’t press further. Knowing when not to ask was just as important as knowing when to ask.

Luca’s eyes wandered to follow Harvey as he went to the door to call for Burok. A look of genuine surprise crossed his face when something very unfamiliar to him was wheeled into the room. His analytical mind told him this was something from the Muggle world, but he thought for a moment, wondering why Burok didn’t just levitate it into the room. Nevertheless, this was unfamiliar territory for the boy, but curiosity took over, and he appeared very interested in what was about to happen next.

“Yes, I would be very interested. I’ve never seen the likes of this. Is this Muggle technology? Burok, what made you wheel it into the room rather than levitate it? I have so many questions,” the young wizard said, rattling off a few excitedly but with some underlying composure. After settling in with snacks and the silent film, Luca’s mind went back to Lillianna’s reminder that summers will not wait for anyone. He was following through on his promise to her: to be a kid.

Harvey did hope that being open with his new friend was perceived as a show of trust. While he had not given Luca any information that couldn't be deduced by anyone willing to pay attention, it was a gesture in which they might solidify not just an alliance, but a true friendship. Life would only get harder and more complicated as they grew. Having someone that you can trust to confide in was something Harvey had never truly had before. Burok would listen and instruct. His mother would do her best to provide support, but she didn't have much in the way of advice. Getting anything out of his grandfather was damn near impossible, so this pivotable moment between the two boys would hopefully be looked back upon as the cornerstone of their friendship.

Harvey was glad though that Luca was wise enough to hear his words, but not to press any further. It was difficult to feel much about his father. How could he be upset with someone he did not know? The boy had known nothing but a life of privilege and luxury. There was no tale of hard times or overcoming adversity. If his father had been there who knows what kind of life he had lived, but still it was not easy to know that this person wanted nothing to do with his own child. Time would tell if any sense of abandonment would be something that Harvey needed to deal with. For now though he was content simply to not dwell on it.

Enough of the heavy stuff. They were only boys and it was summer. Time for something easy. Harvey smiled when he saw Luca light up with interest. He was hoping these wild muggle contraptions would be a treat. "Not everything should require magic, Mr. Corranado. It is our gift, but we mustn't grow lazy." It was the typical tough love advice that Burok was known for. One that Harvey could only shrug at before the goblin took her leave. Soon enough the movie would begin. Sweets and laughter would fill Harvey at first, but soon enough the full belly and comfortable furniture would get the best of him as he dozed off to sleep.

Luca nodded thoughtfully along with Burok’s tutelage regarding the gift of magic. He briefly weighed this against Harvey’s earlier assertion that magic was their birthright, but leaned more toward it being a gift than anything. The Corranado boy thought for a moment about how the magic was to them what electricity was to Muggles — omnipresent and therefore taken for granted, but it was the mention of being lazy that resonated with Luca the most. The Slytherin thought about the success of the Corranado family, the Barrows family, and agreed internally that laziness and reliance on magic were not the cornerstone of their success. Quietly, he filed away this advice from Harvey’s caretaker and nodded with satisfaction as he grew comfortable in a chair next to the half-Goblin boy.

The young wizard could not recall a single memory from home where his parents or his nanny introduced him to Muggle technology. The Corranados were not necessarily afraid of it or anything of that nature, but they simply were too busy to invest much stock in exploring things that were of no use to them. However, he had a curious, explorative nature, so this quiet film about Charlie Chaplin had him locked in with interest. Luca caught some of the funnier movements that Chaplin made, but watched with quiet absorption. Though he was still a kid, so a few of the funnier moments warranted a small stifled laugh, and occasionally a louder boisterous one. He was there to be a kid, after all, and enjoying food, refreshments, and hanging out with his friend was as close to simply being a kid as he ever allowed himself.

During one of his boisterous belly laughs, Luca looked over and noticed that Harvey was fast asleep. Seeing this, he decided to stifle his laughter and internalize it to avoid disrupting his friend. Finishing off what remained of the cheese board, the boy got more comfortable and wanted to watch the film through to the end. The boy’s mind wandered during the film to his friend and how they appeared to be growing stronger in their friendship everyday. When the film wrapped up, the Corranado heir noted the stillness in the house and the genuine moment where he didn’t need to analyze or strategize.

Slowly, Luca drifted off into a deep sleep right on the rather lush, comfortable chair he had sat in. The night progressed into the light of the next morning at the Barrows residence. Waking up with a gentle start, the boy looked around and noticed that perhaps it was the existing magical light that woke him up. For a moment, he gathered himself and looked over to see if Harvey had awakened.
