Ready, Set, Detention!

Alex thought for a moment. He couldn't connect the dots. Salazar Slytherin, who was known for his hatred towards Muggle students, and he was witnessing a Muggle in Slytherin. He decided not to question and make her uncomfortable on his topic anymore. He couldn't really relate to the problems and discrimination Rosie was facing, but he decided to be on the good side and help her. Alex's ears prickled up on hearing on saying that she would tell him about the Muggle world if he told her about the Wizarding world, which seemed a fair trade for Alex.
Alex, without any hesitation in voice, said," Are you kidding me!?!?! Of course!!! I want to know everything. How do things work? What do people do for a living? How do they manage without magic? Every single thing.. I will tell you everything I know. My father is an Auror." Alex said the last part of his father being an Auror proudly. The thought that Rosie might not know who an Auror is, he quickly added," By the way, Aurors are like really strong wizards who capture dark wizards and witches."
Alex was beaming. He had one weakness, which was something that he was getting know about things he never knew about. His curiosity had landed him in this detention, but it was turning out that this detention could get him information that he craved about the Muggle world, and also a really good friend.

"Awesome, I'm so glad you like the idea!!!" Rosalyn said, elated at his excitement for the idea she had come up with.
She was glad that he had kind of dropped the whole muggle-born in Slytherin thing, because Rosalyn really didn't want that to be the thing that defined her here at Hogwarts. She would much rather have her true self be what people hear and know about her.
"Okay, I'll tell you about a muggle job." she said, because Alex had seemed quite excited to hear all about how Muggles made a living and what they did for work, and she was more than happy to tell him about it, but it might not be as interesting as he thinks.
"So, both of my parents work for the government. It's basically the less cool version of this world's Ministry of Magic, or at least I think that's what it's called." she said, trying to remember if that was the name of it or not.
"I don't know too much about their jobs, but I do know that they're always really busy with them and that they do a lot of work there. My mum is always complaining about how much she has to do." she said, because that truly was the extent of her knowledge.
"I'm pretty sure it's a lot of paperwork, though. And other boring things." she said, taking her best guess at what it could involve.
"Another muggle job that I think you'll find interesting is scientists. They are basically the people that do a lot of experiments, or testing a bunch of ideas they come up with, to disprove the existence of magic. It seems quite depressing to me, to be honest. Sitting there all day, coming up with random reasons as to why something as cool as this-" she said, while gesturing to Hogwarts, the world around them, all of the beautiful and magical things here, "-isn't real? That just seems sad." she said.
She put her hands down from the gesturing, resting them by her sides again.
"Any questions about either thing? If not, my question for you is what is a normal wizarding job? Not as a Professor or part of the Ministry, something else?" she asked, curious to know what normal witches and wizards did for a living.

Alex didn't know much about the magical jobs people had. He grew up watching his dad working as an Auror, and his mom was a housewife. The maximum number of jobs he knew were related to the Ministry or Hogwarts in some way or another. Alex wanted to give Rosalyn some meaningful information like she did about the Muggle world. After about half a minute of silence, when Alex couldn't find anything special to say, he decided to be honest and tell what he knew.
Alex says thoughtfully, Well!! I don't know many jobs outside the Ministry, as that's the main source of jobs in the Wizarding world. Like my father, he is an Auror and works in Law Enforcement. He catches dark wizards. While my mom is a housewife. " He continued,"But there are jobs like businessman. And then there are jobs at Gringotts and related to Magical creatures. Personally, I feel working at the Ministry is the best. That gives a stable salary. Plus, I want Auror really badly." Alex's eyes had a spark in his eyes when he spoke of being an Auror.
Alex wasn't into the jobs and career the Wizarding World offered yet. He wanted to explore his way, both in Hogwarts and in his career. Suddenly, another job came to mind. He said excitedly, "Yeah!! Yeah!! There is another job. Healers!!! They are people who operate when a wizard or witch gets hurt. My dad went there after a duel with a dark witch. It was quite bad!!" Alex started to feel his legs again. The warmth from the running slowly faded as Alex felt the coldness of the snow and winter once again. He said,Let's get going!! I feel cold.. I am going inside the castle. You can come with me if you want."

"Ooh, all of those jobs sound pretty interesting! Definitely a lot more fun than whatever my parents do, or any other Muggle jobs that I can think of!" Rosalyn said, fascinated by all of the different things that they would be able to do after they graduated. Whoa, that was crazy to think about.
"Oh no! Is your dad alright now? I hope so! I don't get why people would use such amazing gifts, like magic, for evil things." she said, and it was very true. She couldn't even imagine taking the power that she had spent her entire life hoping and wishing for and using it to hurt other people.
"Oh, yeah, we should probably go inside. And sure, I'll come with you, I have nothing else to do." she said, getting up once again from her rock, her joints a bit stiff and aching from the cold.
"Oooh, I'll tell you about Muggle transportation! We, or, well, I guess they, use something called cars to get around. They have a wheel and some pedals, and use gasoline to get around. Not great for the environment, and they can cause some pretty bad accidents, but they do help move them from place to place." she said, explaining another aspect of the world that she had thought she belonged to for so many years.

Alex slowly got up alongside Rosie to return to the castle after the rigorous detention, a good friend, and a lot of information about the Muggle world. He was about walk to the castle when Rosie dropped the bomb about the Muggle transportation, which was "cars". His eyes lit up like Christmas morning as questions started to spam in his brain. He always knew the magical way of transportation, like brooms, portkeys, using floo powder, or apparition, but this "car" thing was new to him. He was excited to know and understand this new aspect.
He asked eagerly,"So, these cars run on land. Am I right?? How do they function? Do they do anything else as well? Like going into the water or flying in the sky like broomsticks. " Alex was getting quite impatient when he realised he might have overwhelmed her with so many questions altogether. He took a deep breath and steadied himself before continuing,"Sorry! I didn't mean to overwhelm you. We can discuss this later if you want. Plus, it's getting darker and colder. And we don't want another detention again."
As much as Alex hated suggesting to end the conservation but, he had no other choice. The wind was getting stronger, and he was actually getting cold and dark. Additionally, he had already spent almost his whole day sitting there and talking about the Muggle and the wizarding world. A rest was mandatory now.
Alex was delighted, not because he got so much information he wanted about the muggles, but because he got a reallygood friend with whom he could now share his journey in Hogwarts. A person who could stay with him in his lowest and a person for whom he would be there for her lowest.

"Yes, the cars do work on land only, unfortunately. And no, no special abilities. Some can drive on snow, though!" she said, answering his questions.
"No, you're good, not overwhelming at all! I do the same thing when I want to figure something cool out." she said, reassuring Alex that she didn't feel like he was being annoying or anything.
"Yeah, another detention for being too slow to leave detention would really stink. It was nice to meet you though, and I hope to see you around!" she said, sad that they had to part ways, but it was getting freezing cold, so it would not be a good idea for them to stay out and catch frostbite or something. She could already feel her toes getting numb, and she didn't wan to lose one or something!
She was also getting quite tired, what with the whole running thing and the amazing conversation, so it was about time for them to call it quits.
"Bye, Alex! I hope to see you around!" she said, walking back into the castle and to whatever she had to do next, which she was sure was going to be a lot more boring than that day.
