| ── | Graci was not accustomed to reading books from any direction but face-first. She was not, of course, actually reading the book along with Lottie, so it was not an issue. The flashes of pictures she did perceive were gorgeous, no matter the angle. As it was with clear visual pieces. Dusty, old pages, but astonishingly well preserved. Beautiful. It seemed that the ability to decipher facial expressions had left Graci's small arsenal of generally useless skills. The knitting together of brows, eyes softening and becoming less guarded as conversations went on, or a slight frown. All familiarity of that sort was useless when confronted with Lottie. Then again, it usually helped when you knew what the other person wanted. Or something. Different personalities from her own always confused the young Laren. Regardless, there was a lightness to the mood. A shared love for something seemingly mundane, but magical all the same. Perhaps. Intriguing, fascinating, everything in between. The ability to so acutely describe a longing and melancholy was not one many possessed. But Lottie's words rang true. Graci shot a long glance, appraising. The comment from a place of raw emotion, surely, passion creaking into the spaces between words. One cannot be truly indifferent to anything, nor appear to be that way for the things they like. "I find life is too short for the things we want to do, and too full of the things we don't." Life was often found lacking. Something along those lines rattled in her brain every time school work became tedious. Rarely was it because she had found something worth obsessing over, though there was always an abundance of 'what if's. An eye roll of the century was all afforded to Graci for her not-so-subtle hesitation. A half-embarassed, half-ashamed flush settled on her face at Lottie's words. She did, in fact, have a permission slip forged for such a situation as this. Who wouldn't? Kids at the blasted school had a reputation for defying authority, so what was another name among the disobedient swarms? "I didn't peg you as the rule-breaking type." Charlotte seemed studious, surely. Not necessarily Miss Goody-Two-Shoes, but certainly not deliberate. Then again, it was relatively easy to slip unnoticed with a signature so long as you seemed somewhat mentally mature. Whatever you say, I suppose. While she might have been hesitant, it would be fun to get out and better get to know Lottie, mysterious as she seemed. | xxx | ![]() |
