Pumpkin Carving Competition

2018-2018
Dorothy trotted down through the grounds, kicking clumps of loose sod as she went. Today was a time for change and adventure. And pumpkins. Lots and lots of pumpkins.
True to her pureblooded reputation, Dorothy had been raised in a very strict environment. She had missed out on many things muggleborn and half-blooded wizards enjoyed. One of which, was pumpkin carving. Yes, Dorothy had never carved a pumpkin.
It was rather exciting to get to try it, though a tad unnerving that she had to do so in a competition. Still, it was the experience she desired, not the prize. The prize was getting to carve a pumpkin!
Speaking of, why did people do that? It wasn't as if the pumpkins did anything to anyone. What was the purpose of this pumpkin cutting? Dorothy found it rather gruesome when she really contemplated what she would be doing.
At least it was a vegetable and not something living. Were pumpkins vegetables? Or fruits?
Reaching the tables, Dorothy sidestepped through before settling at one near the edge. On top of it sat a large, round, lovely orange pumpkin. Dorothy awkwardly rubbed its belly and picked up a knife. This couldn't be too hard.
Dorothy looked around quietly to see what the others were doing. First, they would cut off the top. Eyeing her pumpkin and squinting her eyes, Dorothy stuck the knife strait into the pumpkins top. Her hands lost grip of the knife, so it remained upright in the pumpkin. Pulling it back up, the young prefect began to jerkily cut her way around the top.
It was a struggle for control. One moment the knife was moving smoothly along, and the next it was making zig-zag shapes in the pumpkin flesh. Finally, she reached the end and victoriously pulled off the top. Inside was a mess of goopy, clumpy, spaghetti like strands of pure pumpkin. "It's guts!" she thought, poking them with her knife.
Another quick glance up brought Dorothy to the dreadful conclusion that she would have to rip out the pumpkin entrails. Rolling up her long sleeves, Dorothy slowly extended her arm into the pumpkin and grabbed a hold of the goop. It was sticky and slimy and positively dreadful. Her nose quickly scrunched up, and she looked away as a pile of goop formed on the table.
Gross, disgusting, ew. Finally the pumpkin had been gutted. Now for the cutting.
The brave Hufflepuff wielded her knife like a true hero. However, despite her efforts, the dear pumpkin was slaughtered and disfigured. It was just so HARD! Her knifing would be smooth and delicate one moment, and then caught up on something the next. She would try to pull it out, but it would just slice her poor pumpkin up all horrid-like.
"Aaaaaargh-Oooh." Dorothy cried, as a last jerky swipe nearly beheaded the unfortunate vegetable/fruit.
Finished, all Dorothy could do was stand back and silently mourn the loss of a beautiful pumpkin. This was a great and unnecessary loss.
