"Okay so we will just wait for the trolley lady then, and then see what exactly we can get," Matisse said with a smile. She thought over what he'd told her about pureblood wizards not really interacting with the muggle world. She wasn't totally sure what muggle meant but assumed that it meant regular people, like her parents, who didn't have magic. It was really the only explanation that made sense within the context of what he'd said.

"So does that mean you've never seen a movie or gone on the internet or anything before? What about school before now, is there some kind of wizard and witch preschool through now place you go to learn how to read and write and do basic math and science and stuff?"

She was super curious about how any of that worked. Surely if there was some kind of magic kindergarten type thing she would have been invited? Or maybe that wasn't how it worked in the United States, after all she had been living there until she was eight, so maybe that was just how things worked then?

She had heard that there was a magic school in the United States, but she knew very little about that and when it started or how similar it might be to Hogwarts.

"Oh, so you're basically homeschooled?" Matisse leaned in closer to Jaxon and whispered the next part more quietly. "My parents are a bit weird about homeschooling, they always said that public school teachers have more training in how to teach kids my age and age appropriate subjects than they do, and have been educated accordingly, so why would they think they can do a better job if they haven't had any kind of training about it? Although I think they're probably a bit biased about school stuff considering they're both professors?"

She rolled her eyes and shook her head. Her parents were very opinionated about that kind of thing. School has been fine enough she supposed, although she had struggled to fit in at times.

"Education is very important to them though, I'm sure they'll be writing to the school to get my report cards and stuff constantly. Although I'm not too sure how that works since they're both regular people? I mean nonmagic. Muggles I think you called them? I always did okay in most of my subjects at school, although some of them were more difficult to keep up with than others because of the whole...hearing thing? Have you heard anything about the classes at all, like which ones are harder or easier?"

"I don't know if I'd say I know a lot exactly. They're university professors and have their specialties, and I'm a bit young to follow along with college level stuff like that. I mean I'm probably better at art history stuff than most people because we go to a lot of museums, but sometimes I feel like half of what mom talks about is a completely different language. She teaches chemistry," Matisse said, chuckling.

She probably did have some advantages compared to other people her age with parents who were so passionate about learning. They read all the parenting books, looked at child psychology studies, and did their best to support her in whatever ways were deemed the most beneficial. They were also extra protective over her in a lot of ways because of her genetic condition. She didn't feel fragile or anything, but her parents sometimes treated her like she was.

"I've studied a bit about the stars and planets and things. Like um...in school we learned about the solar system and stuff? Which I assume is something you learned about too. Like how the moon orbits and reflects light from the sun, or how the sun is just the closest star to earth, and how stars are basically giant constant nuclear fusion reactions? The basics," she said. She was curious as to what types of things wizards learned about when it came to astronomy. How different was it from muggle school? Did they also look at something like a star and know it's a burning ball of gas, or did they think it was something different?

Matisse frowned slightly at his explanation of his parents trying to teach him how to pronounce spells. That made it seem like pronunciation was going to be extra important to making things work, and she already struggled with getting things right enough already. She'd felt nervous before, but had done her best to push it down and try to force confidence, but this made her anxiety rise.

"Is...is pronunciation very important then? To casting spells properly?"

She chewed on her bottom lip worriedly as she imagined all the horrible ways things could go wrong. She struggled to pronounce regular words properly at times still, and her words often came out sounding slurred, like a drunk adult might sound.

"I'm probably not going to be very good at magic if that's the case."

She looked down at her hands. She'd hoped that magic would be something she was good at, something she could work hard on and be the best at someday. She'd grown up in a world without it, and the moment she'd been told that it truly did exist and that she could learn how to use it, she'd felt a sense of relief. Now all she could feel was a vague sense of inferiority before she'd even been able to begin learning.

"I don't know how much help I'll be exactly, but I'll definitely do my best. We can do our best together. I mean I'm sure there's stuff we will be good at too right? Like...um...spells can't be everything can they?"

She had no idea actually, but it kind of seemed like based on the book list and supplies she'd gotten there would hopefully be various disciplines that would all still count as magic. Maybe she would be better at something that didn't require so much pronunciation? She wasn't sure.

The door of their compartment slid open and she saw a kind looking woman there, pushing a cart filled with a ton of candy she'd never seen or heard of before.

"Anything from the trolley?" The woman asked, gesturing at the cart.

Matisse looked at Jaxon curiously, unsure what kinds of stuff there were to try.

"I um...I've got some money but I'm not sure what to get? What's good?" She asked Jaxon quietly.

The trolley lady was smiling patiently down at them but she still felt a bit awkward and out of place. She looked over the items on the trolley, but everything there was items she had never seen before. What on earth were fizzing whizbees, bertie bott's every flavor beans, and why did one of the boxes look like something was moving inside?
