Leo nodded as the girl repeated the question back to him before answering. He was actually surprised at the answer but it was true, learning all different kinds of magic would be interesting. He watched as Sophie pulled her wand out and listened intently as she spoke. The girl seemed very excited to get to the school, Leo was as well but probably for different reasons in the end than her since he was just excited to have some freedom away from the pressures of the Noxley household.
When she asked him what class he was most excited for he had to actually stop and think. There was a lot of classes to look forward to for different reasons but he eventually settled on an answer. He gave a friendly smile before speaking, “I think I might be looking forward to Charms the most or Flying class, Charms because there is so many spells we will be learning in that class and Flying for the obvious reason that we will get to learn how to fly!” He said excited, both of those classes would really be a highlight of school, or for the first year at least.
As Sophie began showing off and explaining her wand to him, Leo leaned forward a little more to get a better look at the wand the girl was holding to see how it differed from his own. “It’s really nice, Sophie.” He said, reaching into his pocket and pulling out his wand. “I got this one,” He said as he held it out for her to see and continued. “It is sycamore wood and unicorn hair, I was told it meant that I am likely to be a highly loyal, adventurous person who seeks out new experiences.” He explained to the girl as best as he could what he remembered the gentleman at Ollivanders said to him about his wand. “I quite like it.”
He twirled the wand around in his hand, spacing out a little before looking up at the girl again. Leo glanced out the window at the scenery, it definitely was very different from where he lived. “The trip wasn’t all that bad, maybe thanks to the good company.” He said and smiled across at his travel companion. As he heard her mention getting the uniform on he gave a nod and pulled out his robe as well, tossing it on over his clothes and sitting back down. “I think I have to agree with you, I’m excited to learn as much as I can honestly.”

Leo’s comment made her feel soft and fuzzy inside, and suddenly, Hogwarts became a much less frightening place in her mind. She didn't dare say it aloud, not even to her own mother, for fear of its delicacy, as if it might shatter in her hands, but it seemed as if she’d made a friend. A friend! she thought to herself privately. Sophie had never been the most talented in the field of making friends. On the first day, too. Now that’s impressive. She sat quietly as Leo changed into his robes, lost in her thoughts. “I enjoyed the trip too,” she told him later, making an effort to keep her tone casual and light, as if his words didn’t mean much to her (they did). “Thank you for letting me share the compartment with you. Hopefully we’ll see each other around school, even if I’m not in Ravenclaw with you.” No sooner had she stopped speaking did the train squeak to a grinding halt, whooshing and chuffing as it did so. Sophie peered outside. It was dark, and difficult to see anything; but she could see the small station, and beyond that, a large expanse of water, reflecting the moon’s pale face back to the sky, and beyond that… Hogwarts! She could make out little more than the windows, lit up by candlelight, but it was there. Sophie shivered. Outside the compartment, there came a sudden symphony of noise as students slid open doors and filled the hallways, chattering excitedly as they made their way out onto the platform. Sophie could hear, above the noise, the calls of staff as they attempted to control the crowd. “We’d better move quickly,” Sophie laughed. “It looks like there might be a stampede in the corridors soon.” She got up to the compartment door, pulling it open with some effort. But before she left, before she stepped into the mass of students, she remembered something, and turned back to face Leo. “I’ll have the money for those sweets, I promise you’ll get it!” She laughed again, then turned around in that abrupt manner of hers, and stepped out into the corridor. Sophie leaves the thread. _________________________________________________________ |

With his robes on and Leo comfortably sitting back in his seat, he let a smile creep onto his face. He wasn’t sure what to expect when he was joined by the girl for their ride to Hogwarts but it was at the very least a pleasant conversation and hoped they would get to see each other again in the halls of the castle. He was pleased to hear the girl felt the same, maybe he succeeded at making a friend today. “Who knows maybe we will run into each other in the common room or if not then we might see each other again in class or around.”
Their conversation was cut short as the train came to a stop at the station. Leo glanced out the window and saw older students hopping out first to help the younger students. He took a deep breath in and slowly exhaled, it was finally time. He was almost at the castle, about to be sorted into his new house, and about to spend his first night in his new room. It truly was a long day for the boy and he admittedly was excited to get in bed and sleep but he knew that was still quite a bit away with the welcome feast and sorting still needing to be done.
With a lot still to come he turned his attention back to Sophie as she spoke again. She had gotten up from her seat and prepared herself to leave, Leo soon following suit. The noise from the students all leaving their compartments and exiting the train filled the air and was quite different from the ride there where the two of them were able to sit in a comfortable quiet and talk.
As Leo gathered his things he watched as Sophie headed to the compartment door to head out, watching as she stopped in the doorway to turn back to him and remind him that she would pay him back for the sweets. He gave the girl a final smile, “Take your time,” He said before quickly yelling to her before she left, “Good luck with the sorting!” While he was wishing her luck he was also partially saying it for himself too as he was starting to feel the nerves work up as the time came closer to finding out if he would take after his family or not. After he made sure he had everything he left the compartment, following the crowds of students as they made their way to their next stop, Hogwarts!
