Case No. 01: Reconnaissance  PV Pericles
@Pericles Dralt
Peri had cast his web across the battlefield and just like his arachnids he would rely on perception and instinct to know just when to attack. Their schooling had prepared these young men for situations just like this. Magic, as wonderful as it might be was so easily corrupted by the ill will of witch and wizard. While they were taught how to utilize this gift to build and beautify the world around them, they must also be prepared to defend it. So far the pair had held their ground against these evil men, but this was no practice duel in the safety of the Hogwarts' halls. No, this was a fight in real time. It would require courage, determination and the willpower to outlast their foes. Can the heroes prevail?
  • Peri attempts to cast the Deterioration Hex at both Billy and Darian: WDC: 21 + 2 (Spell Spread) = 23
  • Peri's wisdom 20 + 20 WIS = 40 (Critical Success) -2 stamina reduction instead of -1
  • Peri's accuracy: 3 + 15 ACC = 18
  • Billy's evasion: 19 + 12 EVA - 5 (Nebulus) = 26 (Success)
  • Darian's evasion: 13 + 5 EVA - 5 (Nebulus) - 3 (breaking body bind) = 10 (fail)
  • Damage: 200 + 10 ARCP x 8 = 280
  • Duration: 3 rounds!
  • Darian's HP: 1322 - 200 (-2 stamina reduction) = 1122 - 280 x 0.5 (part giant damage reduction) = 982 HP
Sometimes to defend, one must destroy. The spell used lends to the chaotic nature of magic. It creates, it destroys, it helps and it harms. The delicate balance of life is represented in the arcane as well. Billy could barely see, but he too must have leaned on his instincts as he ducked to the ground as Peri's curse went flying overhead. Darian was not as perceptive however. The part giant was enraged and as powerful as that made him it also clouded his mind. Devastating energies would hit him directly in the chest and for the next few moment he would literally feel his life essence draining from his body. These poachers were in a world of hurt, backed into the corner, but that's when people can truly be dangerous.
  • Billy attempts to cast Incendio Duo at Pericles: WDC: 12
  • Billy's wisdom: 20 + 15 WIS = 35 (Critical success = +60 damage and max duration)
  • Billy's accuracy: 18 + 12 ACC = 30 (fail)
  • Peri's evasion: 20 + 15 EVA = 35 (success! what!)
  • Darian rips a small tree from the ground and harpoons it at random target: 1D2 to determine target: Howard 1, Peri 2. Result = 1.
  • Darian's accuracy: 12 + 10 ACC - 5 (Nebulus) = 17 (fail)
  • Howard's evasion: 5 + 21 EVA = 26 (success)
The threads of fate would not hum kindly for the these vile men. Perhaps it was karma for their misdeeds, perhaps they had just met their match with Howard and Pericles. Regardless of what force was at play, the poachers were losing. Howard's crimson eyes turned to slits as he surveyed the field. There opponents were injured and panicked. They were missing their mark and now was not the time to give them any room. If he and Pericles could keep pushing they just might be able to put these two behind bars where they belonged. He didn't waste another moment. Howard pounced!
  • Howard attempts to kick Billy again:
  • Howard's accuracy: 16 + 21 ACC - 2 (kick) = 35 (success)
  • Billy's evasion: 11 + 12 EVA - 5 (Nebula) = 18 (fail)
  • Damage: [100 x 17 STR x 1.1]/5 = 374
  • Billy's HP: 626 - 374 = 252
Howard was through the air and landing his attack before Billy could even blink an eye. With devastating effect he would land a kick to the man's midsection. Billy gasped in pain and crumpled to the ground. He was nearly done, but the battle was not yet concluded. The magical fog would dissipate, revealing the poachers that were very much on the ropes! Can Howard and Pericles land the knockout blows?!

Duelling was synonymous to fencing- all footwork, aim, and aggression. Yet having a partner at the center of the fray, entangled with their opponents, complicated the process as Peri knew it. The mage on the outskirts had to perform meticulously, mindful not to harm his own ally in the process. Howard's presence had drawn their fire until a literal blaze came roaring his way. Try as Billy might, Pericles moved like a specter through the trees, slipping in and out of cover once his fog dissipated. The Incendio blasted against a trunk with a devastating crackle. In the dark of the woods, it caught and blazed menacingly overhead, illuminating the battle in a hellish glow. They had to put an end to this before a new emergency was on their hands. Crouched behind a boulder, Pericles leaned out, took aim, and issued two sharp whistles. It was a signal he and Howard had discussed en route, something which wouldn't give away his intention to their targets: Look out! Howard was a devastating force. He focused his assault on the smaller of the two, whittling away at Billy while evading Darian's attempts at retaliation. Perhaps getting Darian alone would be enough to make the part-giant forfeit. Given the rage he'd entered, however, Pear's hopes for an easy end weren't high. They would have to meet brutality with brutality. The fire cast strange shadows over his scowling face as he conjured all the concentration he could muster before bellowing "CONFRINGO."
