Brows furrowed and with mouth full of chips, Gabriele gave the Slytherin boy a weird look. There was no clock nearby to see what the time was, but according to his stomach, it was about dinner o'clock. "What do you mean?" Gabriele had had lunch- he ate a lot in fact, it just felt like a long time since lunch. Mockingly, with a glint in his eyes and a tilt of his head as he gazed up the him, he asked him, "Are you calling me fat?" To think Gabi was fat would have been a lie, obviously. No one would look at Gabriele's scrawny build and think he was anything else than a skinny bitch. He didn't actually give a fuck about what anyone thought about him or his body. If he was too skinny, too short or whatever. He was just feeling out the banter, if he had anything to offer. Someone else might have been annoyed with him from just stealing the chips from his hand, but he had only seemed amused and glad. That was accepting just the right amount of chaos to be promising.
The girl — the pretty one in Slytherin robes, the one with the licorice wands — asked him what he brought to the gathering. The italian answered with a deadpan expression, "the master plan," like it was obvious. "That's why I told you guys to bring some." The one calling the shots in the first place didn't have to bring snacks, that was just common knowledge! How was he supposed to bring the cool ideas on an empty stomach?
Everyone- except Hana, who he assumed would be down for anything regardless- agreed that they were in, with more or less reservations. The Slytherin boy was the quickest to join in, which pleased Gabriele, meanwhile the others seemed to take some more time to consider their options before they decided to jump right in and not be lame bitches. They did the right choice. Joining, that was. The Ravenclaw guy was in, as long as it wasn't anything so bad that he risked getting expelled. Gabi couldn't promise that- if they were going to break all the rules, some of them was potentially risking expulsion. Expected from a Ravenclaw, he supposed. "Sure, but someone gotta do it." Who did what was less important details, as long as it was done. What else was the fun?
Since they were here by the lake... "We'll start right now." He pointed toward the dark, still water of the Black Lake. For some reason way beyond him, no one’s supposed to swim in the lake. And not just a reccomendation to avoid the giant squid, but actually against the rules. A stupid rule, if you asked him. Though most rules in his eyes were stupid. “So, first dare: the first one to jump in gets to pick the next challenge.” At this time of the year, it probably wasn't even that cold. A simple rule to break, but they had to start somewhere.

Rules are for losers
Mikey looked at Gabriele, his eyes wrinkling a little as the words "first dare: whoever jumps in first gets to choose the next test" floated there between them. The lake shone with the low sun of evening, quiet and a little bit threatening, the way it was every year in the fall. The water appeared black. Too flat. A good bet the water was cold.
Probably not the kind of place where Ravenclaws usually made their mark. But Mikey wasn’t feeling particularly Ravenclaw at the moment. He let out a soft breath that sounded suspiciously like a laugh, and with an almost sheepish glance to Victoria, then Aleks, then Hana, he said, “Welp. Guess I’ve always wanted to die dramatically.”
With that, he moved fast, before he could overthink it. He thumped his bag down on the grass with a hard clunk, thrust both hands into his pockets and turned them inside out: a bent pen nib, a scrunched up note from this morning, some chocolate frog packaging, and a rubber band slid onto the ground in a rough little heap.
And then, shoving aside a flapping arm in his hurry, he whipped off his shirt and kicked his shoes aside, socks crumpled around them. His skin caught the last of the light, faintly outlined ribs, a pair of scrapes on his elbows from who knows what. You guys had better not leave me standing there to be eaten by the squid by myself," he grinned, tone straining between deadpan and ecstatic. And then he ran.
A barefoot, lunatic charge across the grass. The kind where the wind slams into your face just so, and the world begins to get smaller behind you. He gained speed, air caught in his throat, adrenaline pumping in his fingertips. He jumped. A wild, impulsive jump off the small bank and out into space, legs folded up a bit before he cannoned into the surface. Cold hit his skin in an instant, a thousand icy needles, but it was not unhuman—just shocking enough to see him yell into the water.
He emerged with a gulp of air, dark hair screwed on his forehead, laughing wildly. “Alright, your turn, rule-breakers!” he called, flinging a fistful of water toward the shoreline. “I’ve got a challenge in mind, and you’re all gonna regret letting me pick it!” He was shivering already, but the grin didn’t fade. This was stupid. This was amazing.

Thoughts
After a moment of thinking, Hana spoke up. "Breaking Rules? You all know we are risking detentions and expulsions." . Pausing a second and sitting down on the grass, she continued. "Well. Think of it this way, if we get into detention or expulsion, the professors and prefects will just be happy that there are less trouble makers in the school. But seriously, we all came here just for troubles and making the professors and prefects happy are certainly not what we want." Pausing a second again for her breath, she continued. "It's not like we should stop this. But don't you think it's a better idea to not actually break the rules but to bend it, to push the boundaries to the extreme, and the professors and prefects don't have any right to get us into detention or to expel us. Isn't what we want to see those frustrated and mad face of them walking, worrying about us, trouble-makers, but they can't do anything because we are not typically breaking rules? For example, if the rules say we can't swim in the lake, we'll jump into it, but not swimming. If the rules say we can't steal, we'll rob."
After this sudden outburst, Hana widened her eyes slightly as she realise her inner mischief, or in this case, her demon side of her said all of this things, betraying her innocent facade. Guess I can be my true self in this random club The whole entire year, it was her fake innocence and bubbly personality who ruled her, she never like this and she thinks it's stupid, but seeing people falling into this trap, thinking she's pure innocent, just makes her feel satisfied of being such a great actress. Hana could certainly say that everything she did is just a facade and was fake, but there's one thing that is true - the precise calculation when it comes to food.
" Idiot" Hana shook her head and said, looking at the Ravenclaw boy jumping into the lake. There's a giant squid down there. And it's dark at night, you can't even see if you're going to jump straight into the rock and die. Well, at least he'll have his dream come true - dying dramatically, but certainly it won't earn him applauses. Sitting on the grass, soaking the moonlight, Hana just took some marshmallow from her bag and look at this stupid act of the Ravenclaw boy.

“So, first dare: the first one to jump in gets to pick the next challenge.”
Victoria looked at the Hufflepuff boy for a few seconds, trying to figure out if he was joking. He didn’t seem like he was. With a small shrug, she sat down next to the black-haired girl who had just had an outburst, leaving a respectful distance between them. She hadn’t expected an outburst from the girl, but she couldn’t exactly say she disagreed with her, either—not entirely, at least. She wasn’t going to do the dare—sure, she could break the rules now and then, but getting wet while doing so? That really wasn’t her thing.
Pulling her knees up to her chest, Victoria honestly hadn’t expected anyone to actually go through with the dare. But when Mikey jumped into the water, she froze. Mikey—of all people. He was probably the last person she would’ve expected to do it.
Victoria blinked a few times, then couldn’t stop herself from chuckling quietly. This might actually turn out to be fun. Once she composed herself, she buried her face between her knees to hide her smile. If everyone was going to show this side of themselves, maybe she could relax a little too—maybe even push her distant persona to the background.
When the girl beside her made a sarcastic comment, Victoria lifted her head and tilted it slightly, but didn’t say anything. Instead, she reached into her bag, pulled out a piece of chocolate, and took a bite. She was already getting excited for the next dare.
After hearing Mikey’s words, Victoria bit the inside of her cheek to stop a smile from creeping in. The cool night air brushed against her skin, and the faint sound of rippling water echoed softly in the background. She cast a sideways glance at him, her eyes narrowing ever so slightly in quiet curiosity before she murmured, “...Are you okay?”
It was a question with two meanings—first, “Are you crazy?! Why would you even jump in?”—and second, a flicker of genuine concern. Even if the night wasn’t particularly cold, the breeze was still drifting gently through the air, and stepping out of the lake like that had to feel strange.
Rules are for losers
Mikey's raw smile let him down as soon as the adrenaline dissipated from his limbs. His flesh surfaced and water stuck to it like frozen cellophane, dripping down his shoulders in rivulets that seemed to be holding the lake back as he tried to climb out. "Bloody hell," he swore under his breath, his voice a little higher than usual, as if even his vocal cords were attempting to flee to heat. The moment he splashed into shallow water and his feet landed on stone, he began to walk up the beach, goosebumps prickling on his skin like ice on glass.
By the time he hit the grass, Mikey was shivering in earnest good. Not the motion-picture sort of shivering where one twitch makes you cool and majestic looking, but the unglamorous, uncontrollable jerking of a person who had entirely not anticipated this.
Victoria's soft voice caught up to him. "Are you all right?
Mikey blinked water from his eyelashes and glanced over. Her tone wasn't teasing, she was thoughtful. And for an instant, he was desperately conscious of himself. The water dripping off him. The way his arms clamped around himself involuntarily. The ear piercing squish and squelch of each step. The fact that his hair was likely stuck out in all directions like a waterlogged rat.
Yeah," he replied, putting a little more honesty between clenched jaws, "I believe my soul literally flew out of my body. It'll return in about ten minutes.".
He reached his pack and fell to his knees beside it, splashing water from his hands before he began to dig into his clothing. His socks had been wetted already, so he slid them out of the way with a squelching thwack. The shirt stuck disagreeably to his fingers when he attempted to rip it over his damp skin.
There was no way, nice or otherwise, to dress if you were this wet, and Mikey grumbled a series of apologies to anyone who would listen as he tried to get an arm into the sleeve and almost stumbled getting up. His pant legs were cold and scratchy against his calves, but he was able to jam his shoes back onto his feet and pull his robes up over his shoulders for warmth, though they clung to the back of his neck like cold wrapping paper.
Standing up once more, dripping wet and slightly red-faced but smiling anyway, he shook a mildly accusatory finger in the direction of the others. "Fine. I did it. That's at least a week's worth of humiliation. So, if no one else is going, I'm officially the best idiot here." He sniffed once, pushing wet hair out of his eyes and down behind his ear.
"And I have a challenge waiting for you, too," he declared, eyes glinting as he stepped back into the group. He was still shivering, but there was an air of pride and glee in the way he stood now, as if he'd just made it through some strange initiation. Then, with about as much pride as a dripping twelve-year-old could muster, he grinned.

When asked whether he actually thought Gabriele was fat, Aleks’ brain cells tangled together, forgetting their own purpose and the mundane task of thinking. Aleks just shook his head, his brows drawn together in one of open confusion. The disbelief at such a statement was written all over his face, as if Gabriele himself had taken a thick black marker and scrawled it in bold letters across his freckles.
“No..?” Aleks thought aloud, briefly glancing at the boy’s delicate frame. He wasn’t blind, nor was he dim-witted. It was obvious no one could honestly call Gabriele fat. Not if they were speaking with a faint glimmer of honesty in their voice!
Aleks did not know what to say, making him the more relieved when, slowly but surely, everyone had settled into their role of staying and witnessing the chaos unfold. The girl with the soft, dark hair agreed to join in, and the newly arrived boy dropped a snack to the ground as he declared his participation in a louder voice than before. Aleks watched curiously as the bag came to settle between the blades of grass. At the sight of the various things they had brought along, his appetite began to turn the ignition.
Watching them, the Slytherin spent a little while longer inspecting the ground. The wind tugged at the wild lawn, brushing blades all in one direction like a comb drawn gently through a dog‘s fur. Observing it had something meditative to it—but it didn’t last long.
A flicker of movement in the corner of his eye pulled Aleks back to the reason they were gathered—Gabriele. He lifted his head and peeked at the slender boy. Along his arm, the tiny hand pointed toward the Great Lake. The first thought that crashed against the Serbian cortex was: disgusting! He could already imagine how cold it must be, just by the way the gentle waves rolled slower, heavier today. Algae would no doubt wrap around his feet and arms and stroke his skin like a wrinkled, clammy aunt just before calling him a ‚sweet little darling!‘. The image lodged itself in Aleks’s mouth, twisting it slowly into a pinched expression.
The premonition was confirmed by the young Hufflepuff’s words: “So, first dare: the first one to jump in gets to pick the next challenge.”
He wasn’t going to volunteer! That much had been clear the moment the boy pointed toward the frigid waves. Meeting at the Great Lake had already mentally prepared him for some level of wet, but now that the challenge was staring him directly in the face, every part of him clenched inward! Even his heart felt frozen, like a forgotten piece of meat shoved into the back corner of an old freezer.
With the unease painted in the blue of his eyes, the Slytherin tried to scan the others, silently praying someone was already enthusiastically raising their hand. As he turned his head, the wind seemed to mock him for his discomfort—lashing his brown hair straight into his face. That’s when his gaze landed on the young Ravenclaw. As if the athletic build were just the beginning, a faint smirk curled on the boy’s lips and a breath similar to a starting chuckle—followed by words Aleks would’ve gladly kissed him for! “Welp. Guess I’ve always wanted to die dramatically.”
Aleks’s features visibly relaxed in the seconds it took him to process what he’d just heard. Oh yes, please, he thought as an unspoken response—not to wish him death, but in pathetic agreement, to avoid touching the algae.
His personal hero began preparing for his sacrafice. Aleks watched closely—examining what came out of the Ravenclaw's bag, the seams of the shirt as it came off, even the socks suddenly felt entertaining. It wasn’t until he looked back up at the boy’s face, catching that smirk, that he had to admit: the Ravenclaw looked handsome. He reminded him a bit of those teen movie posters in Muggle gas stations—imperfect pretty, the sort someone falls for. The gentle ridge of his ribs had something oddly aesthetic about them, even to Aleks, who hadn’t spent much time thinking about taste or attraction yet. When suddenly, the Ravenclaw said something about a squid!
Aleks’s mouth dropped open. His eyebrows furrowed in utter confusion, dragged him out of his thoughts. His gaze shifting from the boy to the thinner Hufflepuff, then to the water of Great Lake. He stared, dissecting every wave as if they might hide some nightmare beast beneath their rippling surface. Something huge, tentacled with eyes big enough to need a tank of eye drop solution. Or even contacts as big as Quidditch field!
“There’s a squid in there..? But..I sleep next to it...”, he thought aloud, to no one in particular. As a Slytherin, wasn't the windows of their bedroom literally the Great lake‘s below..? Hadn’t they all crossed the Great Lake on their first day at Hogwarts?
The memory of that night—once cloaked in childish wonder—suddenly dimmed, like someone had taken a soft childhood recollection and twisted it into one of those stories you find buried in your parents’ old, battered diaries. The kind that makes something curdle in your stomach, because your parents could never have been children as well, and especially not with own parents!
He was focused and stunned by the realization that a monster could be slapping its tentacles against the Slytherin windows every night—kidnapping Aiden and biting off his head! The witty girl—or at least that’s how she’d come across to him after her earlier statement on bending rules—remarked only, “Idiot.”
The quieter one let out a breath of laughter, sweet in the undertones. Their reactions calmed Aleks somewhat, especially the soft Slytherin girl. Especially since she was in the green house too—she had to know that the monster slept right outside their windows! If she wasn’t scared, why should he be?
Aleks desperately hoped she knew something he didn’t. Perhaps it was something comforting. Like maybe the squid had spent the last thousand years doing underwater ballet and snoozing, harmless and uninterested in students and windows. While he was not scared, the thought of squid irritated him.
With a hint of a sigh, he clung to the idea of a dancing lazy creature, and lowered himself to the ground, sitting almost exactly where he had stood. Even with fabric between him and the grass, it felt cold, making him shiver for the Ravenclaw. Aleks missed how exactly the Ravenclaw entered the water. All he caught was a blur of skin tone and the dark splash that followed, droplets flying through the air like a flushed toilet mid-spin, gleaming translucent as if it was clean and not the bathroom of a monster!
Without causing a surprise, the handsome Ravenclaw boy came back to them shivering in all his limbs. Yet, his cheerful demeanor only made the Serbian‘s respect for him grow. Aleks leaned back on his hands in the grass, a strategic move to better gauge the temperature of the ground with his fingers tapping on the grass. It was freezing! He didn’t even want to imagine how the other boy must be feeling, just from that alone. He offered him a slightly thankful smile—even though the Ravenclaw announced that he had a challenge in mind that would make them all regret letting him choose.
When he finally had returned to the group, the gentle girl asked “Are you okay?” and Aleks was grateful she did, not wanting to expose that kind of warmth to a stranger, even though the question was burning under his tongue. Still, his attempt to completely hide the worry from his expression wasn’t entirely successful, it clung to the subtle arch of his brows.
The very person who’d become the focus of Aleks’s concern replied that his soul had nearly left his body! Then began getting dressed again, slipping his wet feet and arms into the dry clothes. Instinctively, Aleks hoped it would warm the boy up—if only because he felt, somehow, inwardly responsible. He hadn’t been the one to propose the dare, but he also hadn’t accepted it before the Ravenclaw could.
While slipping the rest of his clothes clumsily over his damp skin, Aleks kept his eyes especially on the boy’s hair. The brown strands hung wet from his head. Aleks could easily imagine how cold they must feel clinging to his scalp every time another gust of wind swept by. Once fully dressed, it seemed the game was already moving into its next round. With a smile and skin flushed red from the cold, the Ravenclaw stood there looking oddly charming as he announced, "Fine. I did it. That's at least a week's worth of humiliation. So, if no one else is going, I'm officially the best idiot here."
The comment stole the last trace of worry from Aleks’s face. He responded with a small grin, amusement tugging the corners of his mouth upward and drawing the freckles higher across his cheeks. The Ravenclaw ran a hand through his hair to fix it, then added that he had a challenge for the rest of the group. That must be the one he said we’d regret, Aleks thought to himself.
But then something struck him. It ran through him like a dumb revelation—one that should’ve already been marching around the room minutes ago, blaring trumpets and kazoos into everyone’s ears. Aleks furrowed his brow, the grin slipping away just before he addressed the elephant in the room:
“Before we do that… shouldn’t we maybe all introduce ourselves first? I don’t even know your names… I am Aleks, by the way.” Of course Aside from the Ravenclaw boys, whose Aleks only knew by the girl‘s greeting earlier. Mikey was the name, was it not?

With the words of his challenge out in the air, Gabriele glanced between them, waiting in anticipation for them to register it and then hopefully rush to jump in. The hufflepuff didn't immediately get the reaction he was hoping for; People glanced between themselves in uncertainty. "Come on, it can't be that cold," he retorted with an impatient eye-roll, but eventually one of them took the bait. Out of everyone, Gabi hadn't expected it to be the Ravenclaw who would be first to offer to jump into the lake. No one else seemed particularly eager at all. Lame! Had they forgotten what this meeting was for?
Gabriele watching him empty his pockets and then remove piece by piece, with a somewhat dumbstruck expression. That a Ravenclaw was here for a rule breaking meeting was kind of unexpected as it was, but Gabriele was low-key impressed, to say the least. The Italian cackled, pointing at his pale ass when the boy ran in full force towards the shoreline. Gabriele himself was pale as fuck, perhaps even more so, so he was ultimately making fun of himself. But at least he wasn't running like an idiot. It was exactly the kind of unhinged energy he was here for!
When he glanced toward the Slytherin boy, half-expecting him to be stripping too, the guy was already seated comfortably in the grass—clearly not planning on swimming anytime soon. That was almost more surprising than the Ravenclaw. That neither of the girls was eager to jump in probably came to no surprise to anyone. Girls were grossed out by something as small as seeing a bug. His sisters would never have jumped in. And they were afraid of bugs. Based on first expressions, the Slytherin seemed like the type who’d tackle you into a tree just to win something. Even if it meant getting soaked. A little water didn't seem like it would intimidate a Slytherin.
Either way, it was too late now. The Ravenclaw had already finished off his dare. He emerged from the water, looking way colder than anticipated. Gabriele whooped, grinning wide. “Okay. You just proved not all Ravenclaws are lame as fuck!” Even better, the guy apparently had his own twisted idea for the next challenge—one they’d all regret. Gabriele scoffed, rolling his eyes, though his grin said otherwise. Everyone else might end up regretting it. He wasn’t scared of anything. "Bring it on, bitch." Though he hadn't expected them to break all the rules today. They had plenty of time before school was over to do that.
Before they did that, the Slytherin boy suggested they actually introduce themselves. "Tch. You sat out and want names? That’s real snake behavior.” he sized him up teasingly. "Afraid of water, or what?" Gabi didn't actually believe that he was going to snitch on anyone, nor that he was afraid of water. At least not he had a name to the face: Aleks.
“Anyway, I’m Gabriele. The chaos coordinator. You’re welcome.”
