Sorry this took so long, sorry if it’s a little convoluted and sorry for not giving you much to work with.
Piper looked over at Grace and smiled softly. “That’s so true!” She said about Grace’s nickname comment.

Looking to Millie as she suggested the nickname for her, Piper’s smile widened, “Of course! Pip is fine. To be honest people find it quite difficult to come up with a nickname for me, resulting in some very… odd ones.”

Continuing to listen to the conversation around her, Piper felt that she could belong in this place, maybe even with these people. The best part though was that she was happy, in this compartment and with these two girls.

As Millie talked, Piper chuckled at her joke about jokes, it made her think about the grandparents she’d never met. Her mother’s parents and her dad’s father were not in the picture anymore. Piper wasn’t really sure what happened to her mum’s parents, but she knew that one of them had died when Piper was very young. As for her grandfather on her dad’s side, he had passed away about a year after her brother was born.

Pulling herself out of her thoughts, Piper began nodding along to what was being said, making a conscious effort not to slip from the conversation again, at least not yet.

Agreeing with Millie and Grace, Piper said, “I agree. I’m glad I stumbled upon this compartment, and that I’ve met the two of you.”

Setting: Hogwarts Express Compartment.
Time: Morning. 1st, September.
Outfit: A neat looking Hogwarts uniform.
The nerves that were tingling through the small girl began to calm down, as she settled into the compartment with the two girls. So far she hasn’t embarrassed herself in any way, and as evil as it might sound, she was relieved she wasn’t the only one that was nervous. Still. She was nervous, and every now and then had to force her breath to slow down.

The next relief came when Piper, or Pips as she now would call her, accepted without question the nickname. “Odd ones?” questioned Amelia curiously. With a moments thought she said, “like Pipsqueak?” Conversation was coming more freely now, and she released her tensely clutching hands from each other. Maybe it was the way the girls were together, laughing at the right points, any hint of judgement well hidden. For a moment Amelia could have sworn that Pip issued a vague and somewhat sad expression, but then she returned to the conversation, voicing Amelia’s thoughts without a fault. She nodded in agreement, glad that all the of them were satisfied with the compartment.

It was then that the girl, Graci, took to excusing herself, with something about the bathroom being said. Amelia smiled politely in a surprised manner and bade a farewell.

If there was one thing that Amelia was worried about now, it was that having only two in the room would make the conversation stiff. Generally, she would be the one to wait, and allow someone else to carry on the conversation, yet the first year decided to take a risk.

You know, I can’t believe we’re actually going to Hogwarts! I mean, when I got my letter I thought it was some prank, but this”, Amelia looked around the room before allowing her eyes to observe the views flying past, “I’m fairy sure it’s real.” It was of the hope of Amelia that that came out as a joke. “I never dreamt I’d be learning actual magic, and I’ve read most of the textbooks, but it still feels impossible…” She paused to take a breath, “sorry I don’t usually talk this much. It’s just nerves, you know?” She grinned, hoping Piper wasn't about to judge her nerve-racked speech. It occurred to her a moment too late that if Piper was a wizard born, she probably wouldn’t relate to a word of what Amelia had just said.

Normally, the monologue, if you felt like calling it that, would have made her undoubtably embarrassed, but instead all she seemed to feel was a pang of relief. Maybe there was no normal when your going to a magic school. Because, quite frankly, that’s not normal.
