I laughed. It was bittersweet.
I said, "Yeah of course. Wouldn't want you to explode now too eh?
I was joking about it.
But honestly, it felt good to have an interaction with someone who tried to understand my side of things.
Who didn't simply walk away when they couldn't understand.
He could have done that.
When we were walking in the corridors.
He could have made some excuses and claimed that he had homework or something but he didn't.
He listened.
He laughed at me in a good way and made me laugh too.
He joked with me like friends or at least close acquaintances do.
I turned my thoughts back to the moment at hand.
"Thanks"
I said.
He looked confused again.
I clarified.
"For listening. Thank you."
I did mean it. Unlike other times where I just said it too get myself out of something, this time I meant it.
He looked touched.
Maybe Hogwarts wasn't so bad after all?
I decided to ask him another question.
Something a bit less heavy.
"What did you think when your Hogwarts letter came?"
I asked.
This was a favorite question of mine. I loved getting to know people's reactions that magic exists.
He looked sheepish.
I laughed. A quiet but sweet one.
Teasing.
"Was it really that bad?"
He laughed again. I waited for him to answer.

"Meeting with a Ravenclaw, Well, This should be Interesting."
Mikey laughed softly at her teasing tone, the sound bouncing gently off the stone corridor walls. βThat bad? No, just... surprising,β he said, his grin turning sheepish. βI thought it was a prank at first. Some elaborate joke my cousin cooked up to get back at me forβ¦.β He rubbed the back of his neck, clearly still a little embarrassed by the memory. βI mean, one second Iβm trying to avoid summer chores and the next Iβve got an owl staring me down holding this weirdly official letter with a wax seal. I thought someone was filming me.β
I come from a muggle family so its not like I knew this was coming my whole life and had time to prepare. He glanced over at her, smiling more genuinely now. βBut once it sank in? I donβt know, I think I stopped breathing for like a full minute. It was this feeling of what now?β He slowed for a step as if the memory pulled him a bit deeper. βIt felt like everything was about to change, Like Iβd been waiting for something without realizing it.β
Then, turning to her with a raised brow and that familiar spark in his eyes, he nudged her gently again. βWhat about you? You strike me as the kind of person who already knew magic was real before the letter ever showed up.β He asked. She had his full attention now and he couldnβt wait to hear her response.

I laughed again.
"Well, I come from a pure-blood family so magic was all around me when I was little. Although, between the 2 of us, my family hadn't really expected me to go to Hogwarts."
I continued telling him about my first time with accidental magic."My first time with magic was chaotic to say the least. My mother insisted in my wearing a pink dress. If you haven't guessed it already, I don't like bright colors. And I was so angry, I started to scream and scream. At that same moment, my mother's favorite vase broke into a thousand pieces. She screamed as well. My father came in and fixed it but I didn't stop screaming. I couldn't. No one was hurt, but still, after that, I was in shock.
I confessed. He started laughing like a maniac.
"Hey! It's not that funny!
I said, affronted.
But soon I was laughing too.
"Do you want to go to the courtyard?"
I asked him. The afternoon seemed like it would be nice, and as far as I knew, there were no classes today.
I waited for his answer.
He replied positively.
I grinned then led him outside to the courtyard where there weren't that many people around.
I walked over to an empty spot.
