Okay, maybe she got carried away this time. As a duelling captain, she should be aware of the spells that are used in duelling. Well, she is and she knows for sure that Immobulus is not one of them as far as she could remember. Raizel had dabbled in this sport for quite some time, mostly unofficial duels so despite being an ex-duellist, the official duelling spells are still in her mind. There‘s the fact that she’s a broom racer and Immobulus is a spell they could try there if they are feeling like playing dirty so perhaps her spell list had jumbled up in that brain of hers or maybe she got it confused with the Freezing Spell.

Then again, she might also know what she’s doing and that all of these are calculated considering that Prat shot her with a spell that’s definitely not on any spell list that’s allowed in both duelling and broom racing. Maybe her instinct told her that her opponent would try something funny so in response, she did that same thing. While Prat’s spell missed, hers didn’t and in the instant it hit him, he remained frozen. Good. She doesn’t know what spell he sent out… maybe she does but it’s not that significant for someone like her who is attracted to certain types of spells. She’d rather not find out about it though so she was glad she had the time to avoid it.

“Well, it seems like the both of us had the same idea of trying out something different.” This does make her wonder why this spell isn’t in the official duelling list. This isn’t the only one, there are tons of good stuff from Broom Racing that could potentially be used in duelling. Maybe this is something that she could use for in the future. She’ll think about it after this duel.

With Prat frozen, that left Raizel to do just about anything she wanted. Their setup was taking way too long at this point, and she fully expected something like fire, wind, or some sort of explosion to happen. Someone had to get hit sooner or later with something that was actually fatal.

But no. That's not how the world works. Nothing ever happens just so everything else can be balanced. Instead, Raizel aimed a well-meaning Summoning Charm towards Prat, only for her aim to go wonky and fire at Alyssea instead. Alyssea panicked but managed to side-step out of the spell's firing line, her grip on her wand tightening to doubly make sure it stayed in her hand. There was a sense of déjà vu behind that misfire. What comes around goes around, huh?

In the meanwhile, Raizel's recovery from her misfire must've allowed Prat enough strength to break free of the Freezing Charm. Great for Prat, not so great for Alyssea. They were all back at square one with no damage dealt and nobody having the upperhand with any buffs from spells. Raizel's Cheering Charm must've worn off at this point and Prat hadn't been inflicted with any debuffing spells in between. Alyssea sighed. When was this going to get good?

Things are doing great. Her opponent is frozen, lucky for her. Tons of spells ran through her mind that time, of what she could use. A part of her wanted to try out that minor explosion charm that she had tried mastering earlier. It was an advance one and she doesn’t trust herself enough for it. Since it was a spell that wasn’t meant to be used on people, she’d rather not take the risk of hurting someone so badly even in a duel like this, especially when there is a chance things could go wrong.

And it just did.

With her opponent going nowhere, it should’ve been easy to hit him, there was no way she could miss him but her bad luck struck or perhaps those sleepless nights finally getting to her. Her vision failed her and so did her balance for a brief moment just when she had casted it. Instead of going for Prat, it went towards Alyssea instead. “Oh crud.” She would be lying if she said she didn’t get worried there. Good thing she didn’t go for that minor explosion charm or else. If Alyssea gets hurt because of that misfire, not only will she feel terrible but she won’t ever forgive herself. A sigh or relief escaped her when the Hufflepuff managed to dodge it.

Really lucky that the summoning charm was the one she picked so even if it did hit, it wouldn’t have been able to do significant damage. Raizel shook her head, slapping her cheeks. ‘Get it together, you’re fine.’ She told herself in her mind, tricking it into thinking that she could still keep at it despite how her body is sometimes telling her to take a break. There was no need to stop, she needed to hurry up after all. The previous energy she had earlier was slowly dying down, the effect of that charm she casted on herself wearing off. It was a nice boost, it made her feel alive again, giving her a chance to actually feel confident which is rare nowadays. Okay, what tricks should she do next.

The gust of wind Raizel summoned broke Alyssea out of her daydream. Not that she had anything to look out for in the end because both Raizel and Prat missed their spells, but whatever. It reminded her to keep herself safe and not get hit by another stray spell. It was a good thing Prat's Pumpkin Head Jinx (or whatever it was actually called. Alyssea didn't really remember) was aimed properly or else Alyssea would've had to deal with a pumpkin blinding her for two seconds. Who knows what shenanigans the two would get up to once she couldn't see.

Anyways, since nothing of note happened, Alyssea looked down, hummed, and stared at her nails. A few of them were starting to feel sore at the slightest bit of pressure, meaning they were getting a bit too long for comfort now. That wouldn't do, of course, with how busy she was. Shorter nails were better to avoid any injury to her hands if she did anything stupid in training. When Alyssea wasn't playing sports often, she would've liked to grow them out and decorate them nicely. Heck, if she wasn't a boarding school student, acrylic nails sounded fun. Unless the wizarding world had some equivalent service to a nail salon, Alyssea just had to make do with her natural nails.

This duel is starting to seem slow with both her and her opponent kept on missing with their spells, feeling like it’s not going anywhere. What made it a bit exciting though is that while she chose a normal duelling spell this time as she thought she was going overboard, her opponent kept on trying new things with him shooting out a spell that’s not in the duelling and broom racing list of spells. He was keen on experimenting things.

Perhaps it was not wrong to experiment on this one. After all, unofficial duels are ways to try out new things and who knows, maybe by doing the most unconventional ways, they could make something interesting out of it. That made Raizel think for a while, standing there while waiting for her opponent. That’s how duelling seems to work. Standing and anticipating what your opponent will do while attacking them with whatever spell was in your arsenal that is approved for duelling. Maybe it doesn’t have to be that way.

Not to mention, this was probably starting to get boring with nothing going on aside from missing spells and their moderator might be feeling bored already with the lack of action. While this could be good since no one is getting hurt, what’s the fun in that? Duelling is all about trying to knock your opponents out after all.

Okay, yeah, Alyssea was not paid enough (in fact, at all) to deal with this. Honestly, these two were Duelling Captains, for crying out loud! This was their sport and Alyssea just so happened to be well-versed enough in it for a non-captain that she had some semblance of a qualification to watch over them if people were training. But you'd think that captains of their own sport would at least play by the rules and uphold them because, well, don't they represent the sport?

The answer would be no, surprisingly. Maybe Alyssea was missing the memo with this whole captain thing or if it was just Duelling Captains that liked to go off the rails every now and then. Raizel and Prat dropped their wands and lunged, with Prat aiming a mean swing at Raizel's face. The swing must've left her off balance since she missed whatever she meant to do. The lucky thing was that Raizel's nose looked intact. Alyssea really did not want to explain to the nurse that she'd watched some kids scrap on the piste where spells should've been thrown rather than punches.

"Oi!" Alyssea yelled. "This is supposed to be a duel. Leave your fist fights for later."

Raizel had always loved duelling ever since she was introduced to it. She enjoys spellcasting, fighting using those spells that she learned against others in duelling games. Despite duelling never loving her back, she still kept at it. It was thrilling to do until things got too much and she abandoned it but who could blame her. Now, she’s back, trying to love it again and while it’s just as thrilling as always, somehow, it felt like something was missing, especially now with rounds going by without that much going on and after getting experience from other sports. It lacks other forms of actions.

Compared to other sports, something was always going, there were more things to do. Perhaps that’s just it. In duelling, you’re stuck standing there, hoping for your spells to hit while also trying to avoid a spell coming for you and after becoming a broom racer, the thrill she felt during it was much more than what she’s feeling in duelling. So, she decided to do something unconventional this time and it looks like her opponent had the same idea. She lunged forward, hoping to hold on to the boy to try and stop him from using spells but she got hit by a fist on the face. She staggered, shaking her head and then rubbing her nose where she just got hit. Despite the pain, it still made her grin. Hearing Alyssea yell at them just made her laugh.

One thing she had learned is that you can’t always rely on your magic as what was shown throughout the whole duel with hers and Prat’s spell missing and there are other things you can rely on, such as your own body. Duelling was meant to be fought with spells, those are the rules but if you apply this in real life, you won’t always get a chance to do so. Well, for someone who sees duelling as a way to gain fighting experience especially to those aspiring as Aurors, learning other ways to defeat an opponent would be cool aside from spells. That’s just her though. Others might just think she’s crazy for thinking about it even. But Quidditch and Broom Racing had those. They have other ways to secure victories so why can’t duelling have the same thing?

Perhaps that’s what made her laugh, amused her even by Prat’s action. This boy, she was starting to like him as someone who was willing to try new things as well. She will apologize to Alyssea later on for putting her in such a crazy situation. Prat sure packs a punch though. Not the first time she ever got punched. If she gets a sickle every time she receives one, she would probably have 3 or 4. It’s not a lot but it’s weird that it still happened that much. In any case, the duel is starting to get exciting at least.
