[quote]At Dove's question, Marco's face went from uninterested to very guilty. He simply looked like that, he didn't mean to give off an uninterested vibe! He was simply a bit unexpressive, he did not do it on purpose. Though Dove pointing out his apparent disinterest made him feel a bit conscious of his behaviors, and he immediately closed his book. He even seemed to blush a bit, embarrassed that he was called out on his stoic expression. "No, no. I'm sorry. I thought we were studying, I guess. I was going to do two things at once. If you believe it's rude, I can stop." He just assumed what they were doing, which perhaps was his fault. This was not very gentlemen of him! He did not want to come across as a rude person, it was very important to Marco that he was seen as kind and capable. As one day, he would be a leader. Or something like that, he knew grand things were expected in him in his family.
Marco closed the book he was reading, not wanting to appear as rude anymore. He didn't want to feel like Dove was being ignored! Though he knew he could listen and read at the same time, particularly if the information was familiar to him. Regardless, he knew that it was important that he put some sort of effort into looking like he was listening. Of course, people could not read Marco's mind. It's not like he minded, it was only polite. Dove proved to be nice, so it's not like he wanted to jeopardize this new friendship he was making. He felt weird at the awkward silence, but his eyebrows rose when she asked something else.
"Oh." Marco paused at the question, and then smiled and nodded. "Yeah, of course. I love reading and talking about the books I read, so. We're in the same house and year, so it would be good for homework too." He paused, and then managed a short smile.

Dove felt a bit ashamed when seeing Marco apologizing about his behaviour. She didn't want him to take it like this. Dove didn't mind him to read while talking, she was even impressed to see he was capable to do these two things at the same time. She was just scared to disturb him during his reading. She didn't like misunderstandings. She noticed he closed his book, like he wanted to do some effort or something like this. She found it kind, even though she couldn't stop thinking she should have shut up. When she was making friends, or at least acquitances, the last thing she wanted to do was to make people feel guilty. Well, that was quite her feelings right now, and she didn't dare to say something else or to clarify the situation. The silence was getting awkward, and this was quite another reason that pushed her to ask him the "reading partner" question.
Of course, she was a little scared of his answer. She still didn't really know him, so she expected any response that could have left his mouth. So, when he answered with a positive one, she couldn't hide her big smile.
"This is so cool ! And much easier to learn too." she whispered, a bit loudly but not enough to annoy the people around them.
This definitly made her day. She opened her book so she could read, but she was too exited to, and didn't manage to read five sentences before getting lost.

He was worried, but it seemed like Dove wasn't too offended by Marco's actions. Marco let out a short sigh of relief and reached to grab his book again. He wasn't entirely good at reading cues from people, though he seemed to do good this time. Maybe it was because Dove had been visibly distraught by his reaction to her. It would be hard to not pick up on it. Of course, he did not want to hurt her feelings, it was not his intention. He was just good at multitasking. Particularly with reading, as he often listened to his brother's babbling while he did so. So doing so with Dove was not difficult. But she didn't mind that he did so, since he clarified it was not because he was annoyed with her. Which was also comforting.
Marco offered her a smile at her positive reaction, glancing back down to his book. "It can be easier to learn with other people. Sometimes, if you spend too much alone, you can get stuck in your own head." He explained as he had experience with this sort of thing. He studied very often, and sometimes he had to take breaks when he did so. The silence sometimes drove him crazy. But when you studied with a friend, it was easier to reconnect with the world. Dove seemed very nice, anyway. He didn't mind being her study partner. Particularly since she was in his house and year, their content was very similar. Hopefully, she would academically push him.
He sat in silence for the remainder of the period in the library, just happy to be able to read with some company. Dove was nice, and Marco was happy to be able to reassure his parents via letter that he had met some kind people in his year. They had been worried about bullies, but Marco felt like he was doing well so far!
fin. exit thread.
