Shubhangi nodded and Abbey stood up right after she had done so. They both looked at the trees for a bit, both with curiosity. Before Shubhangi walked closer to the forest, Abbey packed some of their food back into their picnic basket really quickly. Not it all, but the things that could fall over or be taken by animals and insects. Would be sad if they didn’t find anything and then headed back to a picnic with eaten food and drinks that had fallen over onto the picnic blanket.
When Abbey had finished after not too long the two girl began walking over to where they assumed the two boys/men had been standing earlier. Abbey followed Shubhangi who led the way. After a few minutes they stopped at a place they were surrounded by trees and the ground under them was slightly wet and muddy.
"Okay, now what?" Abbey had no idea herself. Nothing looked unusual to her either as they stood there and looked around. "They definitely did hide something here though." Abbey nodded, they most like did, and if not they were trying to prank the two girls, which was unlikely the case. "Should we look down closer to the lake?" Abbey suggested after she had glanced around a couple more times. It went up for her to that the water was most likely here because of the two boys/men and not because of rain or such. Her first thought was that they had been hiding something down at the lake and fallen into the it, but she wasn’t sure.

The lake? Hmm...plausible. The wet ground here seems reasonable if someone had soaked in the lake and come over here. While I still believe that they must have hidden it around here, Abbey's suggestion made sense.
Maybe we can find some clues there.
I nod at Abby and start heading down towards the lake, navigating through the rocky terrain. The chilly yet pleasant breeze of the lake was vitalizing! I tried my level best to make sure that I followed down a straight path from the suspicious place till the bay area, from where the point should be still visible.
It was hard to make out any water trails because of the tricky terrain of this area. Seemingly, there are a lotttt of creatures out here, looking at the sheer number of footprint on the dryish sand. Usually these creatures, the ones common around here, ain't that creepy. Yet, the strangely silent atmosphere was making thing weirdly eery.
"Oh! The water trails!" I cry, as I spot faint water trails nearby.
Rushing up to the spot, it became crystal clear that those men, weirdly, spawned from the water? Okay maybe not exactly in those words...but....
"Were they mermen or something?" I ponder, looking over at Abby, "I am not quite sure, but aren't mermen NOT supposed to come up the water? Or more like, they can't? I am super unsure though."
I rack my head trying to make it all make sense.
"Any idea if someone can travel upstream here?" I ask Abby, as the thought suddenly crosses my mind.

Shubhangi nodded and began walking towards the lake. Abbey followed behind letting Shubhangi lead the way. She looked around as they walked, but still couldn’t see anything weird or suspicious. A step after another both the girls made their way down to the lake.
Abbey didn’t know anything about the creatures that lived in and around the lake. She didn’t know anything about any magical creatures to be honest. Magical creatures was the thing she had never heard her parents or older siblings talk about when they talked about the magical world and Hogwarts together. She also hadn’t learned about it at school yet and if so she must of fallen asleep in class.
"Oh! The water trails!" Shubhangi said before she rushed over to the spot. Abbey once again followed after. This time just a bit slower as she hadn’t really understood what Shubhangi meant and where she was heading this time. "Were they mermen or something?" Abbey just stood there clueless. Mermen? At Hogwarts? She did even know mermen was real. "I am not quite sure, but aren't mermen NOT supposed to come up the water? Or more like, they can't? I am super unsure though." Abbey just looked clueless at Shubhangi again. She had nothing she could help with in a situation like this. At least that’s what she thought.
"Any idea if someone can travel upstream here?" Abbey thought about it for a few minutes, but she really didn’t know. "Travel upstream? I’m sorry but I have like absolutely no idea. I don’t know anything about mermen’s or any creatures that lives around here." She really wanted to help figure this out, but she didn’t know the answer to Shubhangi’s question.

"Well neither do I know any deets about these," I sigh, then suddenly I realised something.
"Hold on," I say, and rush back to the spot.
"The rocks!" I cry and point at the direction of a certain pile of rocks.
4 rocks stacked on top of each other, a twine on top of it and another under the top rock. A few scattered leaves nearby, which didn't make much sense to me, and a fine red thread stuck between the 3rd and 4th rock. The direction the upper one pointed at was a tree right behind the one beside the setup. Crossing over the weird line of creepers, nearly tearing the hem of my dress, I reached the tree, which look just like any other, and didn't have any visible difference. I glanced at Abbey, hoping she didn't find my actions too weird.
"It's a scouts thing. Kind of a muggle thing I heard about. I had this friend of mine who was obsessed with the muggle boy scouts thing. He taught me how to, you know, survive the wild." I shrug and take a round around the tree, the snap my fingers, "But, we are wizards, duh."
But wait, what charm was it for that?
"Uh, but..." I turn to Abby, "What charm to try for this?"

"Hold on," Abbey watched as Shubhangi walked back to where they had just been standing. The first year girl was really confused and had no idea what Shubhangi was going to do or show her. "The rocks!" Abbey looked at the pile of rocks Shubhangi was pointing at. She took a few steps closer to where Shubhangi was standing so that she could see closer. "Yeah, what about them?" she was still very confused and had no idea what the pile of rocks had to do with any of this. Was it like a sign or something? That was the first and only thing Abbey could think of the rocks being. A sign or perhaps just some nature decoration or something weird like that.
When Shubhangi said that the pile of rocks was a scout muggle thing, then Abbey knew she might have heard a bit about it before. She couldn’t remember much of what it meant, but she knew she had seen something similar before.
Nature and ”how to survive in the wild" wasn’t something Abbey knew a lot about, but she had grown up in the muggle world and had most likely heard more about it then most wizards and witches her age.
"Uh, but..." She noticed that Shubhangi turned to look at her. "What charm to try for this?" Again a question Abbey did know the answer of. Abbey could barely remember what the meaning behind the pile of rock thing was, so she definitely didn’t know what spell they had to use. She probably didn’t even know the spell as she hadn’t learned more then about two and a half spells yet. "What are we trying to do? Like what do the pile of rocks have to do with those two men?" she needed to understand if she was going to help. She also wanted to understand because she really did want to help.

"See...its too muggle a thing to be done by a pure-blood. So as far as I know they were mudbloods for all I care. But, the point is, for whom was this done? A child as us? Or a Professor?"
I try to explain, seemingly trying my best to make sense. "We can figure that out with the flow, I guess?" I shrug and reveal my wand.
"Okay, a spell." I rack my head, "I am pretty sure I know a simple unlocking spell...aha! Alohomora!"
I cast the spell, quite mindlessly aiming it at the rocks itself, when suddenly I heard a click. quite the audible one even against the sound of the wind, that were slowly starting to sound quite close to howling.
"Heard that?" I ask, my eyes shoot across the perimeter of the tree we stood by, but seemingly landing on nothing that stood out.
"Oh, I def heard the click alright." I furrow my brows trying to put a finger on where exactly I heard the sound come from. The tree? That nasty shrub? The cute viper like vines that gripped the sand like clawed frogs? Okay, I don't know. Don't tell me a nifler came by and took whatever it was that's hidden, then again if I heard it click, its more likely a box or something with a lock, so no chance for the nifler unless it was waiting for someone to unlock it...Okay! Getting distracted here! Where is that damn thing is the main question still.
I search around with Abby , litterally upturning every stone and all...when....
ReducioHint for Abby: There is a box. It hidden beneath something, like a ground, but not too hard of a ground as the sound would have been muffled by something like that. Try to search beneath the "marking" pile-of-rocks that was muggle like. You can decide what exactly you want to find in the box and we can make up the story from there.![]()
p.s. you are having a spelling mistake when you mention my name, so sadly I don't get notified when you post. can you please recheck that?![]()
