Coraline thought back to her own parents’ garden, filled with daffodils, her mom’s favorite flower, rare blue roses, her father’s favorite flower, and hibiscus flowers, her favorite flowers, of course. She had seen violets in a neighbor’s garden once before, too.
Oh, I never knew violets held such a wealthy meaning! In my parents’ garden, we each have a patch with our favorite flowers.
Coraline listened to the girls response and when she found out that the girl could in fact draw, she was overjoyed to have found someone with such similar interests.
Ooh, I’d love to see your drawings, and meet Nott! We had a bunch of bunnies back at home that loved to come out and play after dinner. But I haven’t gotten a pet yet, as I’m still saving up for a mist hopper from the Magical Menagerie.
Coraline couldn’t wait to be able to tell her new friend everything about life at home and where she grew up at and everything in between. In the short amount of time that she had been talking with this girl, she felt that she had known her all her life. She felt more at home in this huge castle, now that she had finally made a new friend.

It was obvious to the Second Year just how much the younger girl was looking forward to meeting Nótt as well as getting her own pet. "I'm sure which ever mist hopper you meet, will simply love you. I hope your bond between the two of you will be just as strong as Nótt and I."
River smiled at the thought of her own feline friend. She knew the furry menace was either still asleep or attempting to climb her bedpost from her cat tree again. River didn't know how, but the scratch marks on the wood would always be gone in the morning. Perhaps it was a charm to prevent previous students from vandalising the school's property.
River hoped that she would be able to speak to Coraline more often after their first meeting. Their bond had grown rapidly and unexpectedly. Rived had not predicted that she would find a pseudo-younger sister when she sat down at the library table.
River had always wanted a large family. She had her parents of course and visited both her maternal and paternal grandparents a few times every year. However, there was a emptiness that had stayed constant in her as she grew up. River had always wanted siblings, a lonely only child she was, but after struggling to even have River herself, her mother could no longer have any other children.
That was probably why River's protective instincts had taken to Coraline so quickly. Her adorable new little sister.Word count: 259/200

Coraline was super excited to meet Nótt, River’s pet. She hoped the cat would like her almost as much as it did its owner.
Sweet! Shall we go to the dorms, then?
Coraline was practically bouncing out of her seat with excitement at getting to meet her friend’s pet. She realized she would have to calm down before, so she wouldn’t scare the poor thing away from her. However, it was in Coraline’s nature to be good with animals. They had always tended to follow her around the house when she had been pet sitting for her friends’ and neighbors’ pets, and sometimes they’d whine whenever she was gone from a room without them for too long. But it’s in all animals (domestic animals, that is) natures to whine when left alone, she was sure.
After we go to your dorm and see Nott and all, wanna come to my dorm? I can show you my scrapbook and everything!
She packed up her bag and tossed the book she had been reading back into her bag and slung it over her back, ready to make the trip down to the Slytherin common room alongside River. She looked over at River expectantly, waiting for her.
