Abandoned Finished

Amaya’s parents nodded in approval, and gave a glance to Amaya. “We’re leaving in a half a hour. Be back by ten."

Amaya gave them a small nod of awknoledgement, and reached into a hidden pocket to poke the bag of Floo Powder they had given her after she'd gotten into Hogwarts. They nodded back, and gave a smile at Birdie. Amaya struggled to keep her face blank.

"Wait!", Amaya called out, giving Birdie a small glance. "Would it be alright if I went over to her house later?"

They didn't look happy. A small, miniature nod was given to her, but they faked a smile, a smile Amaya knew all too well. She supposed the only reason they agreed was because Birdie was a daughter of "important people". They gave Birdie another smile, before finally leaving, letting Amaya breathe deeply.

"I apologize for their behavior," Amaya sighed, running her hand over her hidden ear, checking to discreetly make sure they were gone, "they're strange people."

Strange wasn't quite the right word. She knew how much blood purity meant to them, and especially how much they wanted to appear good and nice. Otherwise, she would have been dragged off. She mentally thanked Birdie just for being there.

Amaya glanced at her half-full cup of orange juice. She touched it, and the cool plastic reminded her that it wouldn't taste as good anymore. She pushed it away slightly, and gave Birdie a wary smile.

"Anyways," Amaya murmured, careful to try not to wake Ollie, "what do you want to do now?"

She turned back to Amaya after the adults had left. “Don’t worry. It’s just how parents are.” She shrugged. “I’m a strange person too. We all are. It’s in magic’s nature to be strange.” She paused for a moment. “You’re finished with your drink, right? Because if you are, I could show you the chorus!” Her eyes lit up at the mention. “You’ll love it! I just know it!” She glanced back towards Ollie sleeping again. “Ah, I forgot.” She whispered, energetic glow still twinkling fiercely in her eyes. “Sorry, I tend to get really passionate about these things. By the way, if your finger’s getting tired, you could gently put him on your head. He likes sleeping on heads. Hair is like a nest for him.” She giggled a bit. “Or, y’know, you could give him to me, but I don’t mind letting you hold him for a while longer. He seems to like you a lot so far. But fair warning, some of my bird friends are shy around new people. But I think it’ll be fine as long as you give them a bit of seed and don’t step on one of the tiny ones or something. So what do you say? Do you want to go right now?” She smiled, hoping for a yes.

Amaya smiled in excitement. "YES!YES!YES!!!!!!!"

Then, she made a feeble attempt to calm herself, and slowly handed Ollie to Birdie, careful not to shake too much. "So, umm... I guess I should be really slow and try not to make sudden movements when I meet your birds? And what type of seeds to they eat? Millet spray?"

Amaya was quite frankly, clueless about birds. She thought she knew stuff, but...

Eh.

Amaya had to stop herself from gushing too much, and settled for a wide smile. "And it's alright to be passionate! Look... I was rambling the whole time so you don't have to worry about it!"

Amaya beamed at Birdie, and taking her pumpkin juice, she gave it a wary sip, as a small test, and grimaced. It had a strange taste once it got cold.

"Yup, I'm definitely finished with that," Amaya shuddered, realizing how spoiled she must seem. She sighed, and let it go. She didn't quite know how to fix that.

"Anyways... Erm...." Amaya found herself at a loss for words, and merely kept smiling, feeling ridiculous in her strange, unmoving excitement.

She smiled, seeing her friend’s excitement and carefully placed Ollie on her head. “You can move normally, so long as you watch your step for tiny birds that have decided to go for a walk. It wouldn’t make a good impression if you stepped on one of them. And my birds eat black-oil sunflower seeds because they’re easy to crack open and they have fat that helps birds through winter. Not that that matters, since it’s August, but it still helps the malnourished birds that stop by grow back to health.” She smiled. “Who knows, maybe we’ll get to meet a new visitor today!” She chiped excitedly, still careful not to wake Ollie. “Or- or maybe one of my parents’ friends has sent a letter, and we can play with a foreign owl!” Her eyes were still sparking, as they did when she talked about birds. She tended to become a bit of a birdbrain in these rare moments. She quickly calmed down after remembering that Ollie was still asleep on her head, and that if she got too hyper and excited, he would most likely wake up and be extra grumpy. Needless to say, the idea of that got her to relax. She gently shifted off of the chair. “Sorry, I got distracted. Let’s go!” She energetically whispered.
