As her cheeks were still flushed from seeing Minnie, Kaitlyn turned to Emily and gave her a bright smile. “Hi Emily! I’m glad to see you here, how’s your essay coming along?” She asked. As she turned back to begin her work, her cheeks flushed even darker, as Minnie came over to her. “Hi Minnie,” she smiled. “That’s so cool! I was thinking about applying,” she glanced at her lap briefly, feeling incredibly awkward. “Um, it’s fine. I don’t want to monopolize your time … I may even write another poem,” she giggled.

Before she got to work, Kaitlyn also spotted one of her besties, Quinn. “Hi Quinn! I’m all right, how about you? Eh, I still have it, but I think I’m improving. I think I just need to practice flying more, so I get the hang of it,” she smiled. A light flush graced her cheeks when Quinn mentioned Minnie and detention in the same sentence.

With her shyness around Minnie still clearly visible, the young Slytherin took out her quill and inkwell and began to write her essay. Her handwriting was a neat cursive.

Sagittarius, one of the Zodiac signs, has a constellation in the southern celestial hemisphere. This constellation is one of the original 48 first identified by Astronomer Ptolemy in the 2nd century. It is also a part of the 88 modern constellations. Muggles use this Zodiac sign as a part of Astrology, as a way to determine what personality you may have during the time and who is compatible with you.

Sagittarius is Latin for ‘archer.’ For more on this, please see my attached poem. Unsurprisingly, this Zodiac sign is best represented as a magical centaur about to fire its bow.

The constellation is made up of eight stars in a shape of a teapot, a type of asterism. The following stars are a part of the constellation: Kaus Media (δ Sgr), Kaus Australis (ε Sgr), Ascella (ζ Sgr), Φ Sgr, Kaus Borealis (λ Sgr), Alnasl (γ2), Nunki (σ Sgr), and τ Sgr. These stars were the original formation of the bow and arrow, a sign to depict Sagittarius. Another asterism is of a rough stick figure drawing a bow.

This constellation is best viewed in the Northern Hemisphere in the summer. Although, from Hogwarts, it may not be visible, since it is past the horizon. From my home in London, if I have a telescope, I should be able to see it clearly.


Kaitlyn spent a few minutes reviewing her work. She smiled, pushing it off to the side. She took another sheet of parchment for a poem.

A magical centaur.
With your bow and arrow,
Ready to foretell the future,
Using the moon and Astronomy as your guide.
Hiding out in the Forbidden Forest.

Greek Mythology resonates, showing the great centaur,
as a healer and having high intelligence.
Just like with magic, a bridge between Heaven and Earth.

Being born under this Zodiac, I’m supposed to have various traits.
Passion, curiosity, intensity, adaptability, and flexibility.
Wanderlust and always on the lookout for an adventure.
Wielders of stories, entertainment, and creativity.
With the good, there is always some bad.
Bluntness, brutal honesty, misunderstanding.

While some of these traits match me.
And some, more than others.
There are some I don’t see yet.
Maybe not even at all.
But, with the bow and arrow asterism,
may I let it guide me,
In life, in happiness, in health, and in love.


Each word in her fantastic cursive handwriting. For the poem, each i was dotted with a heart. Then, on to her favorite part, a lovely poster. It was of the night sky, showing the Sagittarius constellation.

After she was done, Kaitlyn smiled at her three pieces of work. ‘I am such a perfectionist. But, I don’t mind doing this … and it gives me a chance to stay around,’ she thought. She looked up from her spot, looking to see where Minnie was. ‘I … kind of want her to see my poem. I hope she likes it,’ she thought. Finally, spotting the cute Hufflepuff, Kaitlyn waved to her. “Um, Minnie?” She raised her voice, hopefully audibly enough for Minnie to hear.

Hades had heard of an errand in the library. He was more than willing to be a part of it. He spoke to Damion earlier to let him know of his intention to be there, do the errand and anything else it had required. To tell the truth, the Britton pretended to be more involved in other things. Today’s outfit was based on a hoodie — Hades had a rare obsession with hoodies and was rarely seen without them. And some black jeans. He arrived the library while holding a box full of macarons, he was eating a lemon with a distracted expression. Upon arrival, he observed that the whole place had been transformed, the decorations had details in relation to astronomy. He found a free table, sat on it, put the box aside and was mentally preparing. The first question was 'What do I want to know and write that is related to Astronomy?', to have something to start with. It was going to be a most interesting workshop. He had been in varioas before, but if he was to be completely sincere, he might end up considering this one as one of his favorites. As long as Damion joined him later. He didn’t say anything about going together, hence the explanation that he arrived alone without the company of his clingy boyfriend. Which was unusual for them.

He was thinking, his gaze lost in infinity in what he was trying to get a brainstorm. He needed to find some aspiration in relation to astronomy. At first he thought about aliens, of those he had seen in the Prometheus and Alien Covenant films. Some of those explanations led him to believe that it made enough sense, because if not, how could they explain unique buildings like Mayan temples? Or the Stonehenge? It seemed that anything that had no scientific explanation or evidence to validate it could have been assumed to be an alien creation, according to Hades. This was definitely going to be an interesting task. His hand inquired into the box to take out a mint macaron and rose from the chair, walking towards the bookcase where the astronomy books could be. His fingers ran through the books, until he found a book where it had mentioned some interesting things. He took it off the shelf and went back to his table, opening the book. He had two options, which was to write an essay or either make a poster. He only had one doubt. He could choose only one theme or several? Hades wondered because whenever he found some interesting information, he made sure to share it. He did it because it was something he couldn’t help himself.

The first topic he found was about comet dust. In the book, Hades read something that had caught his attention, and wondered how it was that he had not known before... Unless it had been mentioned in class but would not have paid the attention that was required? It might make sense. He took the feather and cleaved it into the paper. What he had found was about the dusts from the comets, which when collided, became a kind of dust from space that would eventually land on Earth, which to Hades’s surprise, was more than five thousand tons a year. The particles were very small, imperceptible to the naked eye and could only be detected by a few specific instruments. It was also mentioned in the book that particles could end up in the hair and they wouldn’t know. They were easily removed when people washed their hair. He could not help but wonder but to think if that also validated the crap of space, that is, the ones threw by astronauts, space-ships and satellites. The information he had been finding was almost science fiction... Another thing he found was when dead stars collide, gold and silver material were produced. That meant space was richer than the planet? In terms of material wealth. His head was about to explode...

Emily smiled at Kaitlyn, showing her the first paragraph of her essay before watching her walk off to talk to Minnie. The two of them were like two peas in a pod by the way they would interact with each other, Emily observed quietly. She noticed a Ravenclaw student join in while Emily resumed her research for her essay.

Within a short amount of time, the library started filling up with more students. There was a whole mix of each of the Houses of Hogwarts, with a considerable number coming from Slytherin and Hufflepuff in particular. Emily felt happy to see so many students taking an interest in Astronomy, though felt a little singled out when she noticed that most, if not all of them, were doing a poster for the event whilst she was still burying her nose in a book about Saturn's moons for her essay. Emily was artistic but struggled to translate that into physical art. Her ideas were colourful, but it was better saved for something she could produce and in this case, it was her writing.

She knew that talking about Saturn's moons would take forever to explain in a short essay, so Emily decided to scale back a little bit and choose a few that stood out to her, as well as some general information. With all the interesting facts that she found on Saturn and it's moons, it was no wonder she considered Saturn to be her favourite planet in the solar system, as strange is it would probably sound for someone else to hear.

She scribbled away in her roll of parchment, only stopping to top up the ink on the end of her quill. She was completely in the zone. It was hard to restrain herself when she realised that too much in a single essay could easily become a rambling mess of words, so she ensured to keep her explanations short and sweet.

After some time, she read through her essay before walking up to the desk and handing it in. Emily flexed her fingers over how stiff they were from exerting herself, but she was pleased with her work nonetheless.

Saturn's Moons

While Saturn is the second largest planet of the Solar System, it is also the planet with the most amount of moons. According to NASA, as of June 2023, Saturn has a total of 146 moons in its orbit, ranging in all sizes, from as large as the size of Mercury to being as small as a standard sport's arena. The very first moon to be discovered was Mimas back in 1789 by William Herschel, an English astronomer.
The largest of Saturn's moons was discovered in 1655 - Titan. However, it's only the second largest in the entire Solar System (being second to Jupiter's moon, Ganymede, but only by 2%), and can be compared to Earth in that it has rivers, lakes and seas. As such, it is the moon with the most substantial atmosphere. Due to the water on Titan's subsurface, it is theorised that Titan can quite possibly be habitable due to the perceived lack of Methane content in its water.
Hyperion, discovered in 1848, is an irregular moon, but is the largest in its category. It has a potato-like appearance, suggesting that it was originally a piece of another moon. It's density is a little more than water, as it has gaps in the water (porosity) of more than 40% in its structure. Many of the craters seen on Hyperion's walls are also hinted to be an abundance of water ice, due to their bright appearances.
Pandora was discovered in 1980 and is covered in a very fine dust-sized material, presumably ice. In contrast to Hyperion which has crisply defined craters, Pandora's crater are coated in debris. Pandora also has grooves and ridges along its surface. While Prometheus is a moon that keeps Saturn's primary rings in place, Pandora is one of many moons that disrupts one of the rings (F ring).
While this barely covers a fraction of the numerous moons orbiting Saturn, Titan, Hyperion, Pandora and Prometheus are four of the more well-known moons due to their unique appearances and surface properties.

Astronomy! Although it was a subject they only got once a week, it was one Mylo really enjoyed doing. He just loved learning about the different constellations and stars, and also how our universe works in general. Their favourite part was being able to stare up into the sky and just look at all the different stars that gathered in the pitch blackness of the night.

The professor had told the students about the fact that it was Global Astronomy Month before they left for break, and they had been told that they were allowed to write an essay or make a poster on anything they wanted to, although of course it did have to relate to astronomy.

As soon as Mylo got on the train home they were brainstorming idea's on what they wanted to do. So many things fascinated them, and they ended up with a short list of possible subjects. And after getting home, he couldn't wait to start narrowing it down. Of course their parents first made them eat, unpack and tell them about everything that had been going on but as soon as that was done Mylo dragged them into the project and asked for their idea's on what he should do.

After many thoughts had been thrown around Mylo ended settling for Black holes. They had always interested them and he wondered what he could find out about them. Deciding to spend the rest of the day with their family he opted to start the project the next day.

Getting up early Mylo got ready to do research, finding out as much as they could about black holes. And there is so much to find. Apparently black holes are huge (at least bigger than a twix) the bigger ones can be up to a billion times the size of our sun! After reading this fact Mylo couldn't quite wrap their head around it, as that was bigger than anything they could every imagine. Even the video he watched that showed the size in comparison to our planet couldn't help them actually see the size of the black holes.

It actually quite unnerved them, imagining something so big that he couldn't actually imagine it. But at the same time it was fascinating to learn about these objects that were so dense and had so much gravity that nothing could escape them.

Having gathered all the information he'd need for the assignment Mylo decided to make a poster, of course he'd first have to choose what he'd want to put on the poster as not all the information would be able to fit on it and only the important bits or the interesting bits would be useful. Together with their parents he decided on the four bits of information he found most fun and interesting and found a good picture to have as the background.

Laying it all out he decided to cut out some note paper into stars too write the facts on so that everything would fit within the theme and still be readable. It was coming together really nicely! And Mylo was thoroughly enjoying this project and being able to be creative with it.

Having gotten everything that he wanted on paper they looked at it in it's entirety and couldn't help but think that something was missing. After staring at it for way to long their sister Andrea came up and said the magic words "Where are the planets, you should have more planets.". Deciding to add the planets of our solar system in between the information to fill up space and to also show people what order to read the information in seemed to be the winning answer.

After the break all that was left to do was to hand in the project in the library. Entering the crowded area Mylo couldn't help but notice the masses of students who were researching and making their own projects. It seemed like everyone was enjoying themselves and he was kind of curious as to what other students were making.

Stepping over to the desk Mylo carefully laid out their poster amongst the other works and essays. Not wanting to read them yet as they'd all be on display after the project anyway. Feeling a sense of pride they were very happy with the outcome of the project, and all that they'd learnt on it.

It was a lovely Sunday. He was looking forward to the day he was going to have. He had signed up for the Constellation Errand. It was a little surprising but not that much surprising. He wanted to do something about it. He was wearing something casual yet pretty. He put on a black shirt with grey jeans and a pair of black sneaker. He set his hair, the way he wanted it to look. Glancing at himself in the mirror once more, he walked out of his dorm not before throwing a flying kiss to the poster of Hades that he had in his room. He was head over heels in love with his boyfriend and couldn't be happier about it. Smiling as he picked up the small gift he had for his Hades, he walked to the library.

Library was a place that was known to Damion very well. He had spent a lot of time there. Burying himself books in his first year... Books had become his close friends during that time. He was a little shy at first and was trying to find his way around. Books had always been his comfort. Now he was happy to say that he had someone to turn to for comfort. Yes it was his Hades. With a small smile on his face, he walked deeper inside the library; glancing around to see the pretty blue eyes of his boyfriend. He knew that the minute he saw those eyes he'd melt in them. He loved how beautiful Hades' eyes were.

He stopped at the "Astronomy" Section first to take a book that he might need in relation to what he was going to do. Picking that book was not that hard. He took it from the shelf and dropped a few books on the ground. Stupid! Idiot Damion! He bent down to pick them up and put it in the proper place and shook his head. He was not supposed to be this clumsy. His eyes spotted his Hades once he was upright again.

Damion sprinted towards him with a smile on plastered on his face. "Babycakes!!" He said once he reached Hades. He hugged Hades and smiled widely. He loved that he was there and with his boyfriend. "I have a gift for you Hades." Damion took out the gift he had for him. He also handed him the rose he had for him. He couldn't wait to see how Hades would react to the gifts he had gotten him. "I love you babycakes!" He said softly as he kissed his cheek. He glanced at him with his cheeks all red with blush as his right hand moved closer to Hades' hand that was the closest to him and he intertwined his fingers with his. He was over the moon when he was close to Hades. The feelings that he felt, were something that he couldn't describe in words. It was something that made his heart flutter and brought a cute blush on his face.

Damion put the book on the table and smiled turning his face to see Hades. It was no secret that Damion loved Hades. He would try to steal glances of him when they were in classes too. Right now, despite them being so close, he wanted to keep staring at Hades. He moved his hair that was coming in his eyes, behind his ear and smiled. He forced himself to look at the book- looking at Hades wouldn't accomplish anything right? He had to write an essay and needed to focus on the book he had gotten for himself.
Constellations are very interesting. In my opinion, a bunch of stars forming a constellations seem like a work of art or tell a story. Each and every constellation tells a story—a story of gods, heroes, and cosmic battles, entwined into the fabric of our imagination. The Constellations often resembling animals, mythological figures, or objects which have their own significance and lore around it. Constellations have been woven into the cultural fabric of societies across the globe. Constellations appears to be fixed, however they are actually transient, their shapes evolving over thousands of years due to the Earth's axial precedence.

Constellations serve as markers for seasons, directions, and celestial events and have helped a lot of navigators, astronomers and farmers throughout the history. Constellations serve as celestial canvases, inviting us to connect the dots and weave our own narratives across the night sky. Constellations are like diamonds in the sky. However you view them, whether it mythologically, or scientifically or via your own imagination, constellations persists to inspire curiosity, awe and wonder, which invites us to gaze at the sky and ponder at the mysteries of the universe and also give us a sense of being part of something larger than ourselves.

At first, Ehsi was reluctant to join when she heard about the Astro Fair that the library was hosting. She wasn't a big fan of space, floating around in nothingness where if something happened to you no one will know till hours or maybe even days later. However, after learning about the possible rewards for participating, she was all more than eager to get started.
Of course she had no clue as to what she could've done, should she do an essay or a poster? Not being able to pick one of the two, she decided to do both. "Now to find a topic on space to talk about".
Ehsi went to the library to find some inspiration only to find the library to be overcrowded with people chatting and finding ideas for their own essays or posters. She moved deeper into the library, skillfully maneuvering around the number of older students just standing idley and to the shelves. There,she scanned the shelves for any books on astronomy and grabbed the ones she had managed to find.
With the books in her hand, Ehsi managed to find an empty table in one of the dull corners of the library.
She carefully read the books one by one, quietly flipping through the pages. She hadn't found anything that interested her enough to write about it in her essay. Hopelessly picking up the last book she hadn't read yet she lazily flipped through the pages.
Ehsi came to the library with determination and eagerness but now had none. She continued flipping through the last book when she finally arrived at the last chapter. The pages gave her some information on some of the many interesting facts about space but what really caught her eye was the information on this thing called the blackhole. Ehsi perked up and was now actively reading about the blackhole with interest ladened within her eyes."Finally something interesting" she thought. Ehsi had found what she wanted her essay and poster to be on: The BlackHole.
Ehsi ran to check out the book with the information on blackholes then hurried to her dormitory to begin writing.

The BlackHole

A black hole is a place in space where gravity pulls so much that even light can not get out. The gravity is so strong because matter has been squeezed into a tiny space.
Stellar black holes are made when the center of a very big star falls in upon itself, or collapses. When this happens, it causes a supernova (a supernova is an exploding star that blasts part of the star into space).
Black holes themselves are invisible as they emit virtually no light and so cannot be seen directly.
As a blackhole is a place in space with an enormous gravitational force, so much that even light cannot escape,you cannot exit once you enter it.Even before you reach the event horizon, which is the point of no return, you would be “spaghettified” by the black hole's tidal forces.
A supermassive black hole with a mass of 10¹¹ (100 billion) M☉, will evaporate in around 2×10¹⁰⁰years. Some "monster" black holes in the universe are predicted to continue to grow up to perhaps 10¹⁴ M☉ during the collapse of superclusters of galaxies.


A few hours after researching and writing,Ehsi finished her essay and immediately began designing her blackhole poster. This was the most exciting bit, she could finally make her creativity flow. She'd gone out to get supplies for her poster: paint, paintbrushes, canvas, overalls, motivation and inspiration. This poster would most likely be the best part of her work.
It was about 10:45 pm when Ehsi finished working. She was exhausted but to her it was completely worth it for the final product. Ehsi carefully put aside her completed poster and cleaned up the mess she made while making it.
She couldn't wait to submit her work. Ehsilat smiled happily and went off to bed after a hard day's work.

Prat eagerly entered the library to attend the Astro fair organized. He was particularly excited to write an essay about his favorite parts of the galaxy, focusing on black holes.

This muggle topic has fascinated astronomers and scientists for centuries, leading to amazing discoveries, This had specially fascinated Prat since he was a child. Prat while always being more interested in Magic didn't neglect on his Muggle studies such as Sciences as Prat believes any science too advanced can be interpreted as Magic and vice versa.

Prat quickly found a seat at one of the tables and began writing his essay,hoping to see how he'll bring his muggle interest to his friends over in hogwarts

These are regions of spacetime where gravity is so strong nothing can escape it. A black hole's surface, coined as Event horizon,defines the boundary where velocity needed to escape exceeds speed of light,Also the speed limit of cosmos, Matter and Radiation fall in, but can't get out.

The first barebones concept of Black Hole was coined by Einstein in his General Theory of Relativity. By the middle of the 20th century researchers began to seriously study and understand these cosmic phenomena.
There are two main classes of Black holes which have been extremely observed: Stellar mass black holes with three to twelve times the size of sun's mass are spread throughout the Milky Way Galaxy.
While Supermassive monsters weighing 100,000 to billion of solar masses are found in center of most galaxies,just like ours.

A stellar-mass black hole forms when a star with more than 20 solar masses exhausts the nuclear fuel in its core and collapses under its own weight, This collapse triggers a supernova explosion that blows off the star’s outer layers,if the crushed core contains more than about three times the Sun’s mass, no known force can stop its collapse to a black hole.

Einstein's theory of general relativity predicts that a sufficiently compact mass can deform spacetime to form a black hole. Once born, black holes can grow by accreting matter that falls into them, including gas stripped from neighboring stars and even other black holes.

In 1974, Hawking proposed that black holes are not completely black, but instead emit radiation, which are known as Hawking radiation, this radiation can cause them to dissipate over time.
This theory went against multiple previous assumptions about black holes and had a lasting impact.

These supermassive black holes have a profound effect on the surrounding stars and gas, influencing the dynamics and evolution of the entire galaxy.

Important discovery related to black holes came in 2015 when scientists first detected gravitational waves, ripples in the fabric of space-time predicted about a century earlier by Albert Einstein’s general theory of relativity.

LIGO detected the waves from an event called GW150914, where two black holes which were orbiting each other, spiraled into each other and merged 1.3 billion years ago. Since then, LIGO and other facilities have observed numerous black hole mergers via the gravitational waves they produce.

Astronomers have been studying black holes through the various forms of light they emit for decades. Although light can’t escape a black hole’s event horizon, the enormous tidal forces in its vicinity cause nearby matter to heat up to millions of degrees and emit radio waves and X-rays.

The extreme conditions of black holes, such as the singularity at their core, disrupt our current understanding of physics and raise questions about the nature of spacetime itself.

Advances in observational techniques such as the Event Horizon telescope have allowed scientists to take images of black holes.
Finally, Pratt's essay on his favorite parts of the galaxy, highlighting the continuing fascination and scientific importance of these cosmic beings.

Astronomy intern: open to interactions for helping

Linda was starting to feel like April had a lot of events: errands and ball. However, she found herself having a lot of expectations for one particular errand. The one connected to Astronomy. She spent most of the time thinking about what she could write essay. There were so many interesting topics that she liked, which didn't help with choice. However, after some thinking, she decided to write about constellations.

Spending a little time to prepare herself, she went to the library and took a book she was the most interested in. Constellations and everything about them. Having it with her, Linda returned to the room and sat down, thinking about how to start her essay. With reading more information, she found herself quite interested in the topic, as at least for wizards, most of constellations were most likely not that well-known. However, she didn't know if that was the same for halfbloods and muggleborns. Perhaps, they already knew all about it.

Essays weren't her favorite thing to do, but this time it felt different. Perhaps, that was because she was really interested in something she was about to write? Or because it was giving her some interesting information that she didn't really know well before? Whatever the reason was, Linda found herself actually enjoying doing it.

After spending some time on writing, Linda thought about something she didn't think before. Maybe as Astronomy Intern she could find other interns and help Professor and librarian today? She already finished her essay and didn't really have any other plans. That could be actually much more interesting than simply staying at her room.

So she stood up, changed her clothes and made her hairstyle and went out to go to the library again. Linda hoped to meet other interns so they could come up with some interesting idea to do. However, after some thinking, she decided it didn't really matter. She could also come up with something fascinating. But truth be told, it would be better with some other interns than alone.

Once she reached the library, she thought about something that would let others know that she was there to help. Maybe something like a sign Astronomy Interns? That could be helpful. So, once again she went from the library to the room of requirement and made some nice individual badges as well as a sign. She put one badge on her shirt and took others, ready to give them to other interns. Those were quite simple: in the shape of stars or planets as backgrounds, with text saying 'Astronomy Interns. We can help.' She hoped it was okay like this as she didn't have much ideas about text. Neither she actually needed something more fancy for it.

Finally reaching library with intending to stay there, Linda looked around, trying to see whether someone was there from interns or someone she could help to. She noticed Minnie and Quinn already there and came to them. Hey, you are interns too, right? I made some badges for us. Would you be interested in doing something together? I mean in addition to helping here for sure.

As she spoke, she saw one more familiar face. Kaitlyn was still here and also Damion, an upperclassman who arranged birthday parties. Linda wondered if her bestie Reyna would come soon, as well as another bestie, Mellani. So far she couldn't notice them, but it didn't mean anything yet, as library wasn't that small.

Did you see other interns? Or someone we could help to? She looked around and caught herself deep in her thoughts. Surely, help was welcomed most of the time, she just needed to figure out who could require it.

A constellation is an area in which a group of visible stars forms a pattern or outline, typically representing an animal, mythological subject, or inanimate object. Many nations and cultures saw different constellations, which later became more popular or more limited to specific culture.

With time passing by, the amount of internationally recognized constellations changed, as was changing their size and/or shape. There are twelve that represent zodiac signs, and other, among which some are more well-known and some less.

In 1922 there was formally accepted list of modern 88 constellations. Since each star has its own independent motion, all constellations will change slowly over time. After tens to hundreds of thousands of years, familiar outlines will become unrecognizable.

H.A. Rey, who wrote popular books on astronomy, pointed out the imaginative nature of the constellations and their mythological and artistic basis, and the practical use of identifying them through definite images, according to the classical names they were given.

To sum up, the way we see constellations depend on our imagination and ability to identify them as certain images. With time passing by, it's quite possible that currently known constellations will change and turn to be something else. However, that will take time, meanwhile we still can enjoy the constellations that we know.

The light drizzle of rain continued to patter against the windows, desaturating the castle grounds and all therein. The muffle drone without offered a suitable accompaniment to the gentle buzz of hushed conversation as Evelynn picked her way through the halls. It was the last day of the Spring holidays, and already students would be on their return, scheduled to arrive just in time for supper within the next few hours. Fresh from her practice at the pitch, Evelynn had every intention of making the most of what little peace and quiet still remained before the throngs of students returned. She had put on a comfortable pair of tan-grey slacks and a knitted cream turtleneck tucked into its waist. Simple black pins pinned back striking auburn curls and her leather satchel hung from a shoulder. Her destination: the library.

On arrival, however, she would not quite find the barren chamber of tome'd knowledge that she was looking for. Brows pinched together as she slipped quietly through the door, eyes panning over the various students toiling away at a number of tables. Some hunched over rolls of parchment, while others were in the midst of craftily arranging large posters. Those pieces she could glimpse as she moved around the outskirts suggested a common theme, and there on the librarian's desk had been stacked numerous supplies for just the occasion. What was it about today and facilitating activities? First an introspective exercise in the atmospheric misting of rain surrounded by stone and floral accents in the courtyard, and now a more academic endeavor to explore some aspect of the great expanse. An effective way to ease students out of the holiday mindset and back into their studies, she supposed with a shrug of a brow.

Tucking a strand of loose hair behind an ear, Evelynn tilted a head towards the desk, swiftly reading over the instructions and hummed thoughtfully to herself. She had been intending to catch up on some of her extra-curricular studies anyway. It wouldn't be so far off track to include astronomy in this afternoon's focus... And following the recent news of the solar eclipse, there had been something that had caught her curiosity sufficiently enough for her to want to study further into it...

Heels clicked dully and as quietly as she could as she circumnavigated her way to an open chair. Many of those present were becoming rather familiar faces. Even those who seemed capable of getting up to no good could evidently bring themselves to a level of calm focus with the right motivation. Lips pursed thoughtfully as the ex-prefect committed each of those she could spy to thought, taking a moment to jot their names and descriptions down upon a scrap piece of paper to add later to her once-more growing profiling database. It was hastily written and tucked subtly away as soon as her pen left the paper. And then she settled in for the long haul.

Book after book was removed from her seemingly bottomless satchel, carefully arranged according to relevance and order of anticipated reference in a semi-circle around her. One pile existed for physics—a subset in this instance included astro-physics; a second, for mathematics; and a third for chemistry. Had she been keeping up properly with her studies, she would have written her GCSEs within the past year given that she had been ahead prior to her enrollment at Hogwarts and had managed to maintain study in the core subjects via correspondence. She'd fallen out, however, and while she was technically on par now with where she would have been had she not been accelerated, there would be a great deal of studying and catch-up required if she was to be prepared to write the examinations this summer. Compounded with the end of year O.W.L.s, this was promising to be an exceptionally stressful next few months few her.

One thing at a time, however. And that one thing, currently, was astronomy. Without further ado, she pulled the top textbook down from the first pile, opened it to the page she had previously bookmarked, smoothed out a roll of parchment, and got to writing.
How does Gravity Curve Light?

Ever since the solar eclipse of 1919 where Sir Arther Eddington and those accompanying him noticed that certain stars near to the corona of the eclipse were slightly off from where they should have been given previous mapping, it has become well known and researched that the sun is capable of warping the path of light. For a long time, this was attributed to the effect of gravity effecting a force upon a light particle to alter its course of travel. This is not true, however. Although light is composed of photons, these particles have no mass and cannot be affected by gravity in the way that it was postulated. And yet, it is still very true that light that passes by large celestial bodies with great gravitational force do alter the path of light.

The reason for this is because mass alters spacetime, curving its path around the mass. From the perspective of the light photon, it is still moving in a perfectly straight line, traveling through the dimensions of space as normal. However, from the perspective of those observing it at a distance, it appears to curve around objects of large mass. This is the concept of Einstein's theory of general relativity, that gravity is not a force, but rather massive objects warp the timespace surrounding them which causes the effect of gravity and the optical phenomenon of bending light.

Constellations and black holes are two of the most fascinating objects in the night sky. While constellations are visible to the naked eye and have been studied for thousands of years, black holes are invisible and only recently discovered. Despite their differences, both constellations and black holes have captured the imagination of people for centuries.

Constellations are groups of stars that appear to form a pattern in the night sky. These patterns were first identified by ancient civilizations, who used them for navigation and to tell stories about the gods and heroes of their culture. Today, there are 88 official constellations recognized by the International Astronomical Union, each with its own unique history and mythology.

One of the most famous constellations is Orion, which is visible from November to February in the northern hemisphere. Orion is named after the hunter from Greek mythology and is easily recognizable by his belt of three stars. Other notable constellations include Ursa Major, also known as the Big Dipper, and the zodiac constellations, which are used in astrology.

Black holes, on the other hand, are invisible objects in space that are formed when a massive star collapses in on itself. They are so dense that nothing, not even light, can escape their gravitational pull. Because they cannot be seen directly, scientists have to rely on indirect methods to study them, such as observing the effects of their gravity on nearby stars and gas.

Despite their invisible nature, black holes have captured the imagination of scientists and the public alike. They are often depicted in science fiction as portals to other dimensions or as destructive forces that threaten the universe. However, the reality of black holes is much more complex and fascinating.

One of the most interesting aspects of black holes is their event horizon, which is the point of no return beyond which nothing can escape. Anything that crosses the event horizon is sucked into the black hole and compressed into a singularity, which is a point of infinite density. This means that the laws of physics as we know them break down inside a black hole, making them one of the most mysterious objects in the universe.

Another fascinating aspect of black holes is their role in the evolution of galaxies. Scientists have discovered that supermassive black holes, which are millions or even billions of times more massive than the sun, are found at the centers of most galaxies. These black holes play a crucial role in regulating the growth and evolution of galaxies by heating up and expelling gas, which can prevent new stars from forming.

Despite their different properties and origins, constellations and black holes have one thing in common: they inspire wonder and awe in those observing them. Whether gazing up at the stars on a clear night or pondering the mysteries of the universe, we are reminded of our place in the vast cosmos and the infinite possibilities that lie beyond our planet.
