Tripping on Skies PV K. Deathmote Finished

Ami stared at Kaegen as he got to his feet, wondering what on earth he was doing. As his eyes met hers, she balked at the sight of his entirely black eye. Breathing heavily, she scrambled to her feet, stumbling backward as the boy in front of her produced an umbrella from literally nowhere. Where did he get that? What was this sorcery- oh, right, they were at Hogwarts. Dumb question.

"Kaegen?" she mewled weakly, not sure what he was doing. The umbrella jerked, and Ami stepped back once more, trembling slightly. "Kaegen, what's wrong?" He didn't answer, but instead, began to run. He ran, feet barely grazing the ground, streaking across the land at an unbelievable speed. She watched as he just left, mouth hanging open, until he disappeared into the Forbidden Forest.

Was that even allowed?

With an echoing gasp, she collapsed on the ground once she was sure Kaegen had left. Ami pulled herself into a tight ball as she finally allowed herself to cry for the first time in, well... forever. Pulling her knees closer, she rested her chin on her knees as the thin line of tears streamed down her face. She should've been heading back to the Professors to request a first-aid kit, or the equivalent of whatever they had here, but she had to pull herself together first; and to do that, she needed to truly break.

She didn't know why this small encounter had hurt so much. The burns from Eris should have hurt more. The torn ACL should have hurt more. The infection from that stray cat clawing her should have hurt more. Yet somehow, by some strange miracle, this hurt the most. Maybe it was because she had tried to help someone else amidst her pain, and she tried so hard, but they hadn't even attempted to return the favor.

But whatever. She didn't need to care. She was independent.

Right?

With a deep breath, Ami cut off her pity party abruptly, deciding that enough was enough. She rubbed the tear stains off of her cheeks, slowly getting to her feet, dusting the sand off of her butt. Collecting her bag of miscellaneous items, she allowed herself one brief moment of mourning for the lost polaroid of the sun that had long since dipped down below the horizon.

Her face morphed into a mask of nonchalance and suppressed pain as she shifted her bag onto her shoulder, and she pushed away the wince that would come with sliding her flip-flops on. Trudging back to the dining pavilion, she hung her head low.

She'd always remember the boy who didn't help her.
Ami leaves the Lake, and thus the thread ends.
