Although he could hardly stop laughing, that did not stop Cyrus's need to keep things interesting. He had to focus extra hard to stop his arm from shaking as he, through watery eyes, zoomed his focus in on Chiaki. He stood straighter and shook his head to try to clear it before actually casting the spell.


The spell was not his best — sure, crackers exploded across the floor, but they were not as bright and colourful as he would have liked. His aim was not his best. The lightning cloud was not at its best. Nonetheless, sometimes it was fun when things happened unexpectedly! Cyrus laughed in delight (and, yes, tickles) when his spell landed rather poorly. 'Great dodge!' he exclaimed between laughs.

He was not close to ready for what would come next.



Whoa. Cyrus stumbled backwards, laughter caught in his throat as his chest suddenly twisted and turned beneath him. By golly, it hurt, but it was also kind of cool! He hadn't known his body could move like that! He held his arms out in an attempt to steady himself as he tried to catch his breath. 'Holyyyy moly!' He swayed slightly before managing to remain standing. 'That was strong! Where'd you learn to do a Spongify like that!?'

Although he was still rattled, he couldn't let the spell deter him! Even if, at this point, he was pretty sure he was going to lose. That didn't bother him at all; duelling was all about learning together, having fun and showing off your skills. So, what skills did he want to display today?

He furrowed his brow slightly, deciding on an oldie but a goodie. 'Incendio Duo!' he incanted.

Chiaki was pleasantly surprised with how her duelling ability was playing out - it seemed that all of her hard work and studying had paid off. Her evasion skills were also improving, as she managed to only just get caught by the spell Cyrus had sent, with the sparks just catching and singing her arms. It still hurt, as the spell itself was a very impressive one, but she could only imagine what the full force of the spell would have done.

However, neither of them were expecting the power of her next spell, which cleanly hit Cyrus square in the chest and caused him to stumble. As soon as she cast it, she dropped her stance and clasped her hand over her mouth in shock. "Oh my god, I-I am so sorry!" she instantly ignored, trying to push back the twinge of pride in her capability to cast something so powerful. "I-I honestly do not know how that happened," she admitted. "I suppose my practice has been paying off? I guess practicing casting spells on a broom can perhaps in enhance the casting ability?"

Those theories were definitely not rooted in any empirical evidence, but it was all Chiaki had to base this from. Luckily, Cyrus didn't seem too hurt or offended by her casting that spell - she hadn't wanted to hurt him so viciously! Considering this, she changed tactics, pointing her wand and casting, "Wingardium Leviosa!"

The spell practically exploded out of Cyrus's wand, a whirlwind of fire that Cyrus, deep down, actually hoped Chiaki would dodge. His blue eyes were wide as she easily side-stepped the spell — wow, was his aim really that bad? — and offered an incantation of her own.

This was not really either of their best round. Cyrus watched as the intended Wingardium Leviosa sputtered out. 'Oh, uh, it's okay! That's happened to all of us.' He cracked a smile. 'I'm sure your aim would've been super good if the spell had worked!'



Even his helpful little storm cloud buddy didn't really do much. It just sat there, swirling above Chiaki. Maybe it was bored this round, and perhaps that was why it wasn't helping him. Nonetheless, Cyrus could help but look up at it, slightly insulted. It didn't have to be so rude; he'd put it there — he could very well wipe it out of existence anyway. But perhaps that was too mean.

He really had no idea what he was doing. He hummed to himself and tapped his wand against his leg as he wracked his brain for a spare spell, although his mind kept defaulting to the idea of ducks and he had to keep stopping himself from attempting an Avis that surely wouldn't work — he'd already cast Avis anyway, and it had to be against the principles of duelling to repeat a cast.

'Uh, Mimblewimble!!' he finally said.

Chiaki barely noticed the bright sparks from Cyrus' wand, that she could only deftly manage to dodge out of the way of due to her practiced habit of being able to dodge out of the way. Had she not caught that, she'd likely have been in a very large amount of pain.

That quite dramatic dodge out of the way greatly impeded Chiaki's casting of the spell as she watched it sputter out and fail quite miserably in front of her. It was a moment of pride for being able to get out of the way in time, but also embarrassment as she failed to case such a simple spell. She would've covered her face from embarrassment in front of an older-year student, but she at least had the sense to not let her guard down completely in the midst of a duel.

"I suppose so," she tried not to sound too disappointed with herself. "I have been able to cast it before. I will blame the fact that I was having to dodge such an impressive spell from you though."

As tempting as it was to repeat another spell she had already attempted and seen the success of, she knew she wouldn't grow as a spellcaster if she just familiarised herself with the same spells over and over again, so she took inspiration from Cyrus's initial spellcasting, seeing if she could manage to cast it even half as powerfully as he had. "Flipendo!"
