Calming Presence in Effect: All Participants (Including Horses) Affected
Beast Master in Effect: In Whatever Caliber it May Assist
Piérre's green eyes glittered as Pericles spoke. "Ohhhhhhhhhhh... how ex-CITE-ingggggg..." His voice dropped into an excited whisper, mimicking Pericles' tone. "I wonder what critters'll decide to stop by!"
A few others showed up, oh would you look at that there was the Hufflepuff girl that he smacktalked last dueling stage before he got his butt kicked... and there was Eevee! Piérre grinned and waved at the redhead with delight as she came in on a magnificent-looking mare. "EEVEE! HAIIII!" She was as put-together as always, such a perfect sight to behold. Such a diametric opposite to himself just as much as he was to Pericles. At least he had a few friends here... that was good!
But as for the pony itself when it came time to saddle up and prep for the ride, Piérre tried to follow as many of the instructions as possible, watching others before trying to attempt it himself. It had been enough of a challenge trying to guide it to the station, with the boy having to stop almost every other step just to try to soothe the creature with quiet words and affirmations. "Shh shhh... it's okay. There's nothing to fret about, we can take it as slow as you like, okay? Just as long as you don't kick me, okay? I've been kicked before, so I don't really want to be kicked again, okay? We're gonna get through this together, hey hey? Pspspspsp..." His hand continued to reassure and stroke back the mane 'bangs' and massage the hinge of its jaw and behind its ears. Horses had the same sensations of feeling as humans did, after all. Soothing patterns akin to that of humans could be quite effective, and being gentle but affirming was key.
Continuing the saddling process, Piérre rubbed down the pony's shoulders. However, he did want to ask. "Hey Pears? What's this one's name?" The horse shifted again and Piérre tried to calm it. "Man he's flighty isn't he... Kind of like me, ha." Piérre rolled his eyes at the end, grumbling to himself lightly in amusement at the self-jab. "Hey look, buddy. Imagine how good you'll feel after stretching your legs. Who knows, maybe you can start making a habit of it in the future. Being in-shape feels really good, and getting sun and exercise is always a plus, hey?" Said the naturally overenthusiastic boy who could never seem to stop moving. Too much energy, and not enough ability to slow down to take anything slow. This really was a match made in misfortune, wasn't it.
Despite being rather wiry, Piérre was surprisingly strong for his size; so when it came to the belt, he put his entire body into it, pressing up against the pony and setting his feet strongly in order to tighten it as hard as he could. He did feel it cinch up, and he did buckle it in to the point that he felt was indeed tight enough to be made to be ridden, but he did not really notice--or perhaps it was more apt to say that he thought he could get away with it despite noticing it--that the pony had decided to be a bit of a stinker and pull the inhale-trick on him. Despite noticing a looseness in the belt... Piérre thought he could get away with it.
Such a choice would come back to bite him when time came to mount up, and as his foot went into the stirrup and his leg swung over, the entire saddle spun on the horse's back and in an instant Piérre found himself spinning with it as his right foot was tangled in the stirrup and his other leg caught beneath the saddle butt proper. With a yelp, the Britalian would end up with his head hitting the ground slightly and then hanging upside down on the pony suspended midair, hopelessly entangled in the straps and buckles. His knuckles drug the ground slightly as it took a few moments to realize his new circumstance.
Blinking a few times, Piérre wiggled a little bit, trying to free himself, but he was a little bit stuck. "Ah... you stinker. I hate you." He directed his words to the pony. "But you're adorable so I forgive you. Even if..." He struggled again, freeing his left leg but still caught by his right foot. "Well I'm stuck. What a way to start a day, huh."
He extended his hands out to the rest of the group. "... I think I need help. Please?"

Where the Wild Things Are
“Thanks for hosting this.” She smiled genuinely at Pericles, finding a place aside to stand still and watch. People were gathering and horses were chosen, and off they went for the hitching posts. Lindsey’s horse seemed exceptionally enthusiastic out of others, along with those of Logan and another girl whom Lindsey wasn’t very familiar with. The horses seemed to have a little competition on whom to take the lead, and Lindsey took a deep breath, deciding just to simply let him do whatever he was fond of.@Pericles Dralt @Logan Baird @Mahlioz Evethisawe @Sage Lilly @Piérre Marchonné @Avery McCall @Evelynn Decipio
She tried to have herself sink in, a connection made with her chosen horse would always be nice in the later part of their journey. Admittedly, she was not exactly sure how to let the horse feel her sincerity, but Lindsey was attempting to be at least an amicable temporary rider. The experience with a smart and trusty animal was indeed worth it, something Lindsey had hardly got herself into before in her prior years. They hiked forward together, her horse half-body in front of her, and step by step they reached the hitching posts together.
Tutorials were always exceptionally helpful, especially for a novice like her. Lindsey listened attentively at Pericles’ grandmother’s instructions, feeling the slight anxiety in her heart. Okay, she thought that she could count herself as athletic, but cooperating with a horse was much different than with a broom or some kinds of balls. Slightly baffled by all the procedures, she carefully repeated the moves taught: face the side of the saddle, grip the horn, place her foot on it…Lindsey raised herself up stamping her left foot on the stirrup, controlling her muscles and quickly swung her right leg over the horse, settling it in the other stirrup. Lindsey wiggled slightly and adjusted herself on the saddle, quickly finding the balance. Clenching the reins and making sure that she probably wouldn’t fall, Lindsey now dared to look down and then yonder. Spectacular. High up on the horseback was much different from on a broom or bicycle (she had tried this muggle way of transportation curiously for couple of times when she was young under her muggle-born aunt’s guidance), being far more medieval, far more classic, and far more indignant. A knight, perhaps. Although the trip was merely at the very beginning of stage, she could already feel her heart beating in her chest with great excitement.
Her own attempt had been rather successful, but clearly Piérre over there had gotten himself into trouble and was calling for assistance. Lindsey warily leaned forward on the horse to have a better view of what was exactly going on on him, balancing herself so that she wouldn’t fall down and break a leg. Oh gosh. It took her a couple of seconds to successfully spot him, as he was hanging upside down at a side of the horse, leg trapped in the stirrup. Lindsey bit her lips slightly. Piérre wasn’t being very amicable towards her teammate and the moderator in their last duel, but - okay, even if she wanted, she wasn’t really sure how to lend a hand. “I’m no expert of horse riding and don’t know how to act as an experienced horse rider…ummm but perhaps we could help unfasten you from all those things while catching your torso and preventing you from getting a solid hit to the ground? Plus an additional Arresto Momentum, if that doesn’t sound so secure?” Lindsey said with much uncertainty in her voice, and looked at others with recourse. She knew she was making a rather foolish suggestion and probably useless (it seemed Piérre had already freed his left leg entirely on himself and she wondered if Arresto Momentum would work on such a low height), but it definitely wasn’t because of the little grudge she somehow held against Piérre on the duelling stage before - surely some of her fellow riders had a few good tricks employed by proficient horsemen.
Looking around for others’s response and quickly sitting back while waiting, Lindsey adjusted herself on her own saddle and felt a lot more relieved taking her balance again in the middle of the horse back - no, she wouldn’t also want to fall, definitely not - she’d merely like to mention that Piérre’s position seemed just horrible.
Action: mounting and offering her thoughts to get Piérre out of his dilemma

Where the Wild Things Are
The more people arrived, the more Mahlioz was nervous. That much was obvious - she was like that with most events. But the only person she knew here was Pericles, and that made it all the more nerve-wracking. Sure, she was thankful she wasn't the only one in her year, but she didn't know the other two second-years. And the rest of the group were all quite a bit older. It wasn't like she had been planning on talking much, even if there were people she knew, but... ugh, why were people so hard?

Thoughts
Horses, on the other hand, didn't need words to be understood. And from the way the one she'd picked was eagerly pulling her along to the hitching post, it was making itself very clear about how excited it was to be going out for a ride. Mahlioz was not far from being dragged through the grass.
The scary grandmother (not scary, Mahlioz had to remind herself - just Pericles' grandmother, another human, that she could interact with without dying) gave detailed instructions on how to groom, saddle and mount the animals. The explanations were concise and, well, explained, which Mahlioz was very grateful for. She'd half-expected everyone here to be way ahead of her in terms of horse-riding knowledge, but it seemed that was not the case. For everyone, at least. One girl had brought her own horse.
Brushing down her pony, Mahlioz then attentively followed the instructions to fasten the saddle, lightly petting the animal as she went. Horses were bigger than a lot of people gave them credit for. But these ones weren't scary at all, which was surprising considering how scared of everything the usual Mahlioz was. They were calm (ish) and soft and felt safe, in a way.
Well, hers did. As she was trying to figure out how to put her foot in the stirrup, a voice called out, asking for help. Glancing around her pony (which seemed annoyed that they hadn't already left) she saw one of the boys on his horse... upside down.
She could not help but let out a small burst of laughter. She didn't know that was even possible. Would that happen to her if she got on wrong?
A girl near Mahlioz suggested how they could help, and though the second year did wish to get this poor guy out of his predicament, she had no idea whether they could help him without getting all tangled up with the horse's legs.
The horse who did not seem fazed. Almost like it had been expecting this. Mahlioz wasn't sure what to make of that.
Taking her foot off her stirrup, she approached the unfortunate pair, still unsure of what to do. She'd been able to attach her own saddle, but there were quite a few components to it and there was no way she'd know what to detach without hurting the boy. Helping people was not exactly her expertise, especially not with horse-related matters. But she thought she'd stand there in case those who did know what to do wanted her help.Mahlioz has chosen a Kerry Bog Pony with a Feisty temperament and Hardy condition

Despite his obvious path in her direction, it wasn't until Dralt was close enough that his proximity could no longer go unacknowledged that Evelynn's gaze peeled from the paddock. Even then, she spared him only a fleeting glance and a polite smile that didn't quite reach her eyes before shifting to his horse. "Cassiopeia." Swiftly satisfied, her appraising scan lasted only a short while before pulling back and returning her focus forward again to the rest of the students, asking, "yours?"
"Thank you, by the way," she added, almost as an afterthought. Cassie snorted idly in a sort of way that straddled contentment and boredom, then turned her head in the direction of the newcomer. "For extending the invitation to the club to spend this time here." Gently subdued, there was no mistaking the formality of the gratitude in Evelynn's sentiment. Nevertheless, there was no note of disingenuity. Cassie's ears remained mostly perked forward towards Pericles and his mount, only occasionally swiveling to the sides to take note of one sound or another. "It is generous of your grandmother to offer her time and expertise."
As the group moved from the paddock to the ties situated for grooming and tacking, Evelynn's eyes followed. They lingered on the competitive equine trio, passively watching their spirited progression. Reins danced for a moment as Cassie bobbed her head, testing the tension of the leather. After glancing down just long enough to gauze the expression, Evelynn released the reins to a single hand, lowering it enough to rest its heel near the withers. Taking this permission, Cassie stretched down her neck to graze while they waited. Newly freed, Evelynn's now empty hand withdrew to rest on her thigh. Or would have had a shouted greeting from one Pierre not commanded her attention. In reply, she raised her hand, motionless, like a photo capturing a wave in still-frame. Then lowered it again, no word, no smile.
Although she would continue to converse with Pericles so long as the conversation was maintained, it wasn't until Pierre's sudden spin in a poorly girthed saddle that she would again make any significant movement. With that, the hand that had been resting on her thigh darted reflexively to the inside of her leg, fingers cresting the interior of her riding boot. Half a breath later, however, they withdrew--empty--and returned to their previous resting place. Jaw tense and shoulders stiffened, it would be clear to a discerning eye that she did not for a single moment share in the humour of Pierre's situation.

Where the Wild Things Are
Logan laughed, "Thanks, I will be riding with you all today," she responded to Pericles, "No matter how much I would love to listen to another compelling speech about where the best grass is and who gives the best treats, I think I would rather just talk to you all today." With that, the Hufflepuff slowly made her way over to the large gelding she planned on riding for the day. She muttered softly to him as she came closer, making sure she did not startle him and he was calm as she slipped the halter over his head.
"Such a good boy," she muttered softly as she attempted to calmly make her way out of the pasture. The bay seemed to have other plans though as he suddenly became excited over getting the chance to go out riding. Holding on firmly, but not pulling on his head, Logan stumbled just a bit as she directly him to an area where she could get him ready to be tacked up. It had been a while since the girl had interacted with a horse with such high energy. Yes, she had a Thoroughbred with an attitude and energy for days, but he preferred to stay away from her and keep moving rather than excitedly drag her around.
Getting to the hitching posts, Logan made sure to secure the gelding thoroughly before getting him ready to be tacked. Tacking the curry comb and brushing him down before moving on to the soft brush to remove the loose dirt. After completing the grooming, she gently placed the saddle pad and saddle on his back, stepping in front of him before she tightened his girth to make sure everything looked right. "You sure are excited," she grumbled to the gelding, running a hand down his neck before tightening the girth. She did not want to be too tight, but not too loose either or she would fall off.
It did not take long for Logan to finish tacking up the gelding, one hand on the reins she glanced over at the sound of a thump. "Are you okay, Pierre?" she questioned, moving closer in an attempt to help him get unstuck from the stirrups and safely to the ground. The Hufflepuff had fallen off of horses before and it was not a pleasant experience, but at least he was not too high off the ground.Logan will be riding a standard bay Irish Hunter with Feisty temperament and Athletic condition.

Where the Wild Things Are
The wind was pleasantly cool and crisp as it rippled through the trees, carrying the distant call of birds gliding overhead.
Sage had managed to slip the halter on the gelding without much issue, marveling at the creature's compliance as she coaxed him towards the hitching posts. The other members eventually found their own steeds for the day. All was fairly calm until an older girl made an entrance with her horse. Sage's Connemara gelding reacted with a cautious whinny, ears tweaking towards the newcomer. Concerned, the young Gryff gave her horse a comforting pat, hoping to soothe his nerves. Sage wondered if he had a name - figured it'd be more respectful to address a majestic creature with it instead of going by 'Mr Horse' all the time.
Sage listened to Tamasa's instructions as closely as she could, absent-mindedly tapping her fingers on the wooden back of the brush. The old woman demonstrated the task at a comfortable pace; going step by step, punctuating each with a brief, simplified explanation. Sage felt somewhat confident in saddling her own horse, now.
With brush in hand, she began to stroke the bristles against the gelding's coat, uncertain of how much pressure to apply. She looked over towards her left, observing the other members' states of progress, a bit regretful now that she has yet to acquaint herself with the other club members. There were girls her age, too - what's so hard about saying 'hello' now and then? Merlin, she could be so insufferably shy.
A yelp caused her to look up from her horse. It came from a fellow Gryffindor - an energetic upperclassman that she might've seen hanging around in the Common Room. Right now, he was in a bit of a pickle seeing that he was dangling upside down on his horse…?
That must've taken a bit of effort to achieve, Sage mused to herself, wondering if she ought to help the fella out. His horse didn't seem to look happy with him at the moment, either. What could she even do? She definitely didn't want to get too near Pierre and possibly get kicked by his horse. She already had her own to worry about! Besides, Mrs. Tamasa looked to be someone who did not tolerate tomfoolery of any kind. Best not get involved.
Dragging her gaze away from the scene, Sage focused on fastening the saddle onto her gelding, making sure it sat comfortably upon its back, adjusting the straps just enough so it wouldn't rub unpleasantly against the equine's ribs.
"I hope that feels alright, Mr. Horse. I… I'll try getting on, now." Sage took a calming breath and reached for the saddlehorn, thankful that she was tall enough to reach up and slip her foot into the stirrup. Now, the difficult part was to swing herself over and not end up like her housemate.
Hup! Her first try at mounting failed; Sage babbled her apologies to the horse as she wobbled at the stirrup then back onto the steady ground. Round two, then.
Grunting with effort, Sage was barely able to support her weight with her scrawny arms but managed to pull herself onto the saddle. She held on to the horn with a death-grip and sat rigidly, trying her best to relax as the horse adjusted to her weight and presence.
"There, there. That wasn't so bad." Patting the horse's mane, Sage muttered quietly more to herself than Mr. Horse, her eyes darting around to watch the other riders. If there were other novices in the group, she wondered how they were handling their first horse-riding experience. Did they struggle as she did? How were they liking it so far?
She supposed it was not comparable to broom-flying, not with its stomach-tugging, gravity-defying zip-zap movements hundreds of feet up in the air. No, horse riding was much better. To the prudent Sage, the privilege of bonding with a sentient creature was much preferable to whipping around on a cranky cleaning tool.

Where the Wild Things Are
───────────────────────────────────With her chosen steed for the day now selected and at least momentarily docile at her side, Avery allowed herself a moment to survey the rest of the clearing to see how her schoolmates were faring. Most, aside from one of the older students apparently, seemed to find no trouble with haltering their chosen mounts. The Hufflepuff allowed her attention to flicker momentarily between the two other 2nd year students that were attending. She couldn't recall meeting either before, but then again, that's at least partially what these events were all about, right?
Gently leading her mare closer to the rest of the group, Avery pauses to give Tamasa her attention when instructions for the next leg of the saddling process are given. She angles herself and her steed closer toward the other two youngest League members, insuring there is still plenty of room to maneuver around for cleaning and saddling. A moment of quiet passes while she focuses on brushing out her mare's coat. The steady motion of the brush was soothing in a way uniquely its own. The Hufflepuff set the brush aside once she was satisfied with the work and moved quickly through the rest of the process that was demonstrated. The saddle pad was carefully settled onto the mare's back and straightened out before the saddle itself was hefted from its stand and, with only a bit of extra effort, up onto her steed's back.
A commotion from one of the other League members momentarily breaks her attention. Looking over, Avery blinks at the scene of the same obstinate pony from before now saddle. Just...with an upside down rider. She couldn't help the quiet, amused chuckle that broke free at the sight once she confirmed everyone appeared unharmed, pride aside. Finishing securing her own saddle, the Hufflepuff hesitated a moment to watch and make sure her own horse wouldn't try the same little trick with her. Smiling and patting the mare's neck when she realized she'd get no pushback on her end, Avery places her foot in the stirrup and spreads her weight between the horn and cantle to quickly haul herself up into the saddle.
Settling into the saddle once she was mounted, the second year slides her foot into the opposite stirrup and allows the mare a moment to adjust to the new weight. With one hand holding the reigns and the other resting lightly against the steed's neck, Avery lifts her attention back to the group. Noting one of the other second year members mounted up nearby now, the other girl having moved to assist their upside down compatriot, the Hufflepuff offers the girl a smile. "Looking forward to seeing what all we can find today. Have you ever been trail riding before?"Avery is riding a black and white Irish Cob mare with a Steady temperament and a Hardy condition.────────────────────────────────

[quote]Pericles' smile was warm when @Lindsey Springhall thanked him for hosting. "Thank you for coming," he returned, emphasis implying what went unsaid: it was others coming along that really made the trip worthwhile. That mellow smile lingered while he watched them prepare, striking up casual conversation in the meantime. He'd snickered softly as @Logan Baird described common topics of discussion among horses. Somehow, it didn't surprise him at all that their interests revolved around food. "It's more or less the same with eagles, though the one I've spoken with did have handy advice on how to build a nest. I can't say I blame you for sticking with us."
The band of riders certainly seemed like good company. Though their skills varied from amateur to expert, they all looked to be navigating the basics perfectly fine on their own. Peri nearly moved to help @Sage Lilly into her saddle, but she managed on her second try, he held back. The Ravenclaw offered an encouraging nod should he catch her eye. Her horse appeared receptive to her voice, twisting his ears to listen, picking up on her soothing tone even if he couldn't understand her words.
@Evelynn Decipio introduced Cassiopeia, and the Ravenclaw seemed to light up as he asked, "After the Greek myth?" Someone named Pericles could appreciate as much. He tried to come a little closer, on the verge of asking if he could pet the mare, but his horse planted his hooves firmly. Pericles hesitated, one hand on the halter while the other stroked the steed's cheek reassuringly. It only uttered another cautious nicker. "This is Dullahan. He's from Boni's herd, though I may be buying him from her, assuming today goes well." He added on a sheepish note, "I think he's shy is all." Although Eve's mannerisms were off, the pale host didn't call attention to her formal delivery. He only brightened again at her appreciation for his invite and Tama's time. "It's good for her too, I think. Mamo doesn't go out often, less so since my grandfather passed. She seemed enthusiastic about helping today." He looked the old witch's way with nothing but fondness and admiration, even as she barked instructions at the others.
@Piérre Marchonné asked for the pony's name mere moments before he was left hanging under its belly, a scenario perfectly fitting for the answer: "That's Pookah." When his friend first swung around, Pericles had taken a tense step forward, catching his breath until he was sure Pi hadn't been hurt. When he heard the boy grumbling, he had to clamp his lips together in time to trap the laugh that started to escape, cut off when he saw the solemn look on Evelynn's face. He tried to pass off the choked sound as a cough, clearing his throat while he moved to help. "Oh, Pi. Let's get you up."

Where the Wild Things Are
[ Mod ]Piérre's pony had tricked him into thinking the cinch was secured, resulting in the poor guy hanging under its belly by the saddle. While he reprimanded it, the lazy animal gave a pathetic whinny of distress. Oh, the inhumanity. They were making Pookah do so much work already. Tamasa bustled forward to help him, and when Lindsey offered her suggestions, the witch waved for her to join, saying "Very well. I won't be tolerating any underage uses of magic on this ride, but you can support his head while I cast the Slowing Charm." Mahlioz moved to wordlessly offer her help, and Tamasa took it, pointing at them and instructing "Here, child. Come and undo the cinch once he's pulled clear." Logan pitched in, removing Piérre's tangled boot from the stirrup once he was slowed and supported. When Peri belatedly tried to assist, his grandma shooed him away, insisting "Finish readying the others. The four of us will handle this." They managed to collectively help him down without further issue, and thankfully, Tamasa was adept at healing. The bump on the back of his head practically vanished with a wave of her hand.
After securing his horse to a hitching post, Peri fetched a pair of bags from the porch, digging out an item from each before making his way to Sage and Avery. "Before we go, everyone will be needing one of each. Would you mind helping me hand these out?" Sage had been given a bag full of binoculars. Avery's was brimming with small sacks, and when one opened theirs, they would find it filled with Magical Menagerie's Generic Pet Treats. Peri passed off the ones he had taken to Evelynn, since some of the herd- his horse included- was still warming up to Cassiopeia. He then hauled himself into his saddle to survey, parking Dullahan as close to the other upperclassmen's mare as it allowed.
Once gifts were distributed and the team was loaded up, it was time to set out. Tamasa personally checked Piérre's cinch to ensure Pookah hadn't sabotaged him again. She then went on to teach them how to steer their steeds: keeping gentle pressure on the reins to maintain control, right rein for right, left for left, pulling back on both until they stopped. She instructed them to squeeze their heels in to urge the horse forward, and to tap against their flank to pick up the pace, though emphasized this should not look like a kick. The group would find this herd was forgiving towards beginners. They were well trained to follow the trail, falling into a loose formation behind Tamasa's mule, progressing as a group... aside from Pookah, who would come to an abrupt halt at the gate until he was sufficiently encouraged to move forward again.
As the riders navigated the field, they would find themselves swarmed by a herd of sheep, goats, and long-horned rams, all of which baaed up at the riders while they passed. Some craned their heads high enough to sniff for the food they were carrying. The smaller animals seemed to know better than to follow the horses past the paddock, though they stuck with them as far as they could, pleading for goodies all the way.Next mod: March 17th-ishReducioSummary: After Lindsey, Mahl, and Logan help Tamasa situate Pierre, the group loads up. Where the Wild Things Are
Watching Tamasa and the others come to Pierre's rescue distracted her from the fact that she was on a horse. Mr Horse seemed perfectly content to carry her on his back, no qualms whatsoever. What a good-natured horse he was!
Just next to her, a friendly girl her age initiated a conversation, and Sage, being the way she is, couldn't have been more grateful for the opportunity.
"Me too. I can't say I've done this before, though. Would this be a first for you, as well?" Sage inquired, lips quirking in a smile. If the ease with which the girl handled herself on her horse were any indication, Sage wouldn't be surprised to hear that she was a seasoned rider.
As the girls chatted, Pericles approached them with two bags in hand, giving them one each with instructions to distribute their contents out to the other riders. In Sage's bag were standard-issue binoculars - would they be birdwatching today?
Regardless of the fact, Sage was happy to be given an errand; she figured it'd give her extra time to cast aside her doubts. The girl got down from her saddle, nodding to Avery before she set off to give out binoculars to each participant.
The young Gryff made sure to greet each rider with a short "Hi, this is for you," or "Here you go," beginning from Logan and Mahlioz, then Pierre and Lindsey and finally back to Pericles, Avery and herself.
Once her errand was done, she met up with the others just in time for Tamasa's riding lesson. This time, she found it easier to mount the surefooted gelding. Following Tamasa's gestures, she began to get a feel of how her horse moved. The commands were straightforward, and her steed seemed eager to get going.
Mr Horse didn't have to wait too long; once everyone was saddled up, each rider began filing after Tamasa's mule.
Binoculars slung around her neck, and treats tied securely to her saddle, Sage didn't have to coax Mr Horse too hard to follow the others. A gentle press to the flank made the Connemara walk forward, keeping pace with the horse before it; Sage could only marvel at the rise and dip of her mount, her hands almost going slack at the reins.
The girl couldn't have missed the flock of sheep and goats trailing after them as they moved out of the paddock. They bleeted from a distance and Sage felt sorry leaving them behind. She grabbed a few treats for the young ones, giggling as a slimy tongue grabbed hold of the treat in her hand.
Soon, she and Mr Horse were out of the gate, venturing deep into the woods.
